this is the checkup corresponding to the car which (they discovered 3 days later) had less than 1mm of rear break pads remaining

First, the good news: they were timely. Now, the bad news: I took my car in to get an oil change, and they gave it a complimentary "overall checkup". On that checkup they said that, among other things, the rear breaks were fine. Took it back three days later for an unrelated issue (I meant to have them take care of both issues on the same day, but I ran out of time). On the second visit, three days after their complimentary report told me my brakes were fine, they took it for a test drive and found out that the rear break pads were LESS than 1mm. NOT GOOD. What else did they miss in their "complimentary checkup"? For them to give a misleading report on such a serious part of the car is completely unacceptable. I will not be taking my car back to them. My trust in this institution has been seriously eroded - like my break pads.

I'm not much of a car person... Q: What kind of car does your boyfriend drive? A: Uhm; a red one? But I :do: know that this place can offer a great selection of tires. And they're also adept at repairing your (read: my) less great so-I-thought-I could-scrimp-on-these tires. Once, I came here with 3 (three!) nails in a single tire. Don't ask how I managed to swing that one -- it's not like I'm off-roading much in my little 2-door 4-cylinder. Anyhow, they fixed me up and I didn't have problems with a single patch. The mechanics are sweethearts too. While waiting one morning, I was in need of my daily caffeine dose, but the front coffee pot was already empty. The sympathetic guy at the desk went to the back room and offered me up some of their own stash. They actually have 3 locations, so check the website to see what's most convenient for you (and for coupons!).

My…read moreinteraction with them leads me to believe that the deceptive business practices I (and apparently others) encountered come from higher up. I can only assume that a business that takes advantage of it's customers takes advantage of it's employees in whatever ways it can also. My specific case: I had a screw in my tire. It is a relatively new tire with plenty of tread left and the screw had planted itself between the tread, not in the sidewall. When I took it in just before closing the person working the counter said they could plug it for me no problem if I left it overnight, and wouldn't even charge me for it. "Too kind! Thank you" I said, thinking that is how you generate loyal customers. The next day I had a message saying that they couldn't repair the tire. I called them up and they said something about the angle of the puncture, it sounded half baked. The person on the phone didn't sound completely convinced themselves and like they had a script for the "Snap Financing" they should try to steer me towards to pay for two new tires (so they'd wear evenly). After politely declining to buy new tires from them they were willing to re-inflate my damaged one so I could drive away. when I took it to another local shop today they were able to plug it no problem. I even asked if there was anything unusual or any reason at all they might have suggested I get new tires. The guy who did fix it basically said "If I wanted you to spend $500 you didn't need to today I could have tried lying to you too." in actuality he just said "Nope, it was a simple plug." Two stars for friendly employees who hopefully find something better when this place hopefully goes under, like it deserves to in my estimation.

I had shopped around a bit and found the pricing here to be fair for Michelin tires and quality, and the service to be exceptional. Thank you, Bret! I arrived around 3 and was out the door with everything complete before 4:30. I especially value the Drive Happy Advantage with tire purchases here. -free rotation and balancing -free flat repairs -free pressure checks, TPMS resets, and more I also appreciated the repair record check via CarFax to identify any possible other repairs that may be needed and the follow up call to ask for feedback about the service provided. I'll be back for sure! Update: 2nd visit yesterday for the inspection was the same experience-fast and efficient.

Clyde at Pass The Wrench doesn't do that. He's a fine young man who provides quality, affordable service. If the job isn't done that day, you pay him when it is. I seriously lucked out by asking on Reddit if anyone knew of a mobile mechanic that could come to our house and fix out Infiniti, someone recommended him. He answered his phone right away, listened to the issue, and came plenty prepared. Not only was he fantastic with the service he provided, he was able to get us discounts on the parts we needed, willing to work around us very close to Christmas (even offering to work ON Christmas), and it turns out he can do more than just cars. Since moving to NC, all we ever hear about is how everyone in this state has "A Guy" they know that can do fix-it/handy projects around the house. Clyde at Pass The Wrench happens to be That Guy for us now. It's rare you find someone that loves what they do and is willing to do good work at a good price without trying to swindle their customers for a quick buck. When it comes to local businesses, Pass the Wrench is exactly the sort of place I want my money going because the person running it happens to be just an all around good human. He might be based out of Raleigh, but he services all over and will come to you to fix your car. We're out in Clayton, and he came to us without issue. I will personally be recommending him to everyone I know.

After the tune up did not fix the issue, I was told my throttle body and MAP sensor needed to be replaced ($900). When they realized that didn't fix the issue, the told me I needed a new engine or to replace the cylinder head (quoted at $6,000+). At this point I told them to not do any further work and I went to retrieve my vehicle. At the time I went to get my car, I asked for them to show me my throttle body that was damaged, initially they were unable to show me the damage because they did not have it in their possession anymore and that NAPA auto parts store had it because it had a core charge on it. Well I went over to NAPA to ask if their new throttle body had a core charge and they told me there was no core charge on new throttle bodies only on refurbished ones. When I went back over to Al's Garage to ask to have the throttle body replacement chargers removed, they had no issue taking it off my bill but also "my" old throttle body magically reappeared and they put the old one back on my car. Well, I took my vehicle to get another diagnosed by 3 different mechanics, one being the actual Jeep dealership. All 3 mechanics came up with the same diagnosis and were unsure why they would do a tune up for my issue I was having. Other mechanics I spoke with as well, said in the situation if they provided me with a misdiagnosis and the problem wasn't fixed from their diagnosis they wouldn't keep charging me more to "test and check". I reached out to Al's Garage over the phone and spoke to a representative who had a very recognizable voice due to his accent. I asked if a manager was in while on the phone, and he said he did not know. I then asked if he knew who the owner was and again did not know. I then decided to return in person to speak with someone to find a resolution, the same guy who answered the phone, who referred to himself as Jerry, was there again. I explained the situation again, and he refused to work with me to find a resolution. I then asked for a business card and he refused to provide one and was initially reluctant to provide the name of the owner of the shop. It's unfortunate this situation is needing to come to this, but shops like this need to be put out of business to stop giving a bad rep for all the great mechanics and shops who are willing to do the right thing and not take advantage of costumers.
