Went for a Sunday Brunch, the location is not that good. It is in a strip mall. The food was very very good. We ordered 3 dishes and loved all 3 of them. The service was really fast and pleasant. The place is relatively small, but ok.

This was a fun breakfast spot on our drive back from Chicago. A sweet ambience, definitely family owned. Lots of yummy breakfast and brunch options. I had to go with a savory option after my flight and my breakfast burrito definitely hit the spot. The prices were super reasonable, and the staff was very friendly.

Going out with a friend is really really special to me because I don't have time to with family obligations. I had breakfast scheduled here with a friend I was so excited to see and picked this place over others because the reviews looked great and the tres leches pancakes looked amazing! The menu looked cute too with a corgi theme! Our server just didn't seem like she cared about us. She forgot our drinks which I didn't mind since I was happy to be out. We waited 30 minutes and she then came over to tell us that our orders got lost. Like they were never put in. She also didn't offer to make it right even though the kitchen was not very busy. I understand things happen or people have bad days but it was truly disappointing because it's so rare for me to go out to see friends and I actually drove from a different state to try this place.

Chappie's Cafe is located in a strip mall. We went here because we had a dog with us, and they welcomed the dog, as we sat outside. The indoor dining area was slightly small. I would estimate perhaps 5 or so families can sit in there. The two waitresses were SUPER nice and friendly, and really made our experience fantastic. My friend got the corn beef and hash, which had corned beef mixed with shredded hash browns served with 2 eggs any style and a side of toast or pancakes. He said the dish was fantastic. My other friend already had breakfast and just ordered a fruit cup. Let me tell ya, most places give you the trash fruit, like cantaloupe and honeydew. I'm a fan of honeydew, but these melons are cheap, and most places give you them because of so. Not here. The fruit cup had pineapples, blueberries and even cherries. A very good fruit cup! I ordered the Chappie Chx Sandwich which consisted of a crispy chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato jam, melted cheese, and chipotle mayo on brioche bun. It was really good. Overall, great meal, great service, and a great experience.

After hearing recommendations from friends, we tried Chappie's Cafe. We arrived for brunch with relatives at 11 AM on a Saturday and there were plenty of seats. They have two tables for four on the sidewalk, so we took those. Inside, Chappie's is unassuming and not pretentious. The decor is spare and very nice. They offer a number of tables and several were taken, mainly by young families. Sitting outdoors was nice. The day was pleasant and not too sunny so just perfect. We were greeted by Ricardo, a waiter who was very good at his job. We ordered a variety of breakfast items: (1) I had the Short L-eggs, two over easy with hash browns and link sausages. Others had (2) a Denver Omelette, (3) a Veggie Omelet with Pancakes, (4) a traditional egg's Benedict, and (5) an Avocado Toast. Each of us also had coffee. I need to mention their coffee. I didn't ask what type of beans they used as I tend to be snobby about coffee. Whatever it was - it was very good. I think there may have been Chicory in it. Often, I don't order coffee in restaurants because I don't like their blends. This was a great exception to other experiences. As for the rest, my meal was great. Some thought there was just too much food. From where I sat, I agree their portions are generous. I would much rather have too much than too little. Again, kudos to Ricardo for helping make this a good experience. We had all of their outdoor seating but were never made to feel we were in a rush. Definitely worth trying if you haven't been there yet. And, we will certainly be back.

There are never enough good breakfast places in Palatine, in my opinion, and this is one of the best! This little cafe is small but features contemporary decor. The staff are gracious and attentive and the mood is comfortable, calm and relaxing. We had berry crepes and eggs Benedict which were fresh, inviting and well prepared. We couldn't have asked for a better breakfast or experience. Can't wait to go back and try more!

This is a very small but wonderful cafe. It serves delicious breakfasts and lunches. I really emphasize that it's a small location so you might have to wait for a table. But it's totally worth it. I've had the Nutella crepes, the spicy burger, their chicken sandwich special, and the montecristo sandwich, and they've all been great! Their smoothies are also very fresh and flavorful. The owner is always around and the staff is friendly and polite. It's always very clean and bright and the whole place just makes me feel cheerful and content. This is a regular stop for me and my family now. It's also very reasonable! I highly recommend it for anyone in the area!

Then they switch over to Lucky Burgers which is open from 4pm until no one is there and they want to go home. Though technically I think they're open until 8 or 9pm. There are a handful of items on the Lucky Burgers' menu: about 5 variations of their classic burger, a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, and waffle fries. When we went, the place was empty and never got busy. Which opened the door for one of the owners, Scott, to regale us with tales of days gone by from his childhood in Evanston and the famous people he knew, grew up with, and worked with. It was nice hearing these stories and it was nice to give Scott something and somebodies to talk to as well. The place has a large parking lot and is nice and clean on the inside. There is a tiny area with slot machines and a small bar/counter at the entrance. The burgers are all smashburgers. They come as singles or double patties. Go for the double as there's not a whole lot of meat once they're smashed. The differences are the toppings. Scott recommends their housemade dijonaise sauce which is good, but ask for it on the side. The cook slathers it on the burger and that's all you can taste. Once I scooped (you read that correctly) the sauce off my burger, it was a pretty good burger. The meat is seasoned well and cooked nicely and the bun holds up (despite dripping in dijonaise). We all shared the chicken tenders as an appetizer. Five nice sized tenders come in the meal and you can choose your dipping sauce. Scott recommended their honey mustard which was very good and the ranch wasn't bad either. He is also johnny-on-the-spot to refill fill your drinks. I seriously thought that I would float away. The best part is the price. All said and done for a burger, waffle fries, and a soda, with tax and tip is like $15-$18 bucks. It's a nice place that I need to go back to and visit for the Jelly Cafe side. AND return for their burgers, tenders, and more of Scott's stories.

More like a normal double cheeseburger in my book. Added a Charred jalapeño - was awesome Onion bun also not the right vehicle for smash burger - top bun was burned and rock hard - so ate it open style with.knife and fork as a soft Potato Bun is what you ideally need for a smash burger. The place was not busy so we were seated immediately. We got the Filipino menus as well as the traditional. I ordered a side of Garlic Fried Rice and a side of 2 Eggs Over Easy and the Ube Pancakes. The 3 guys each ordered the Tap-Si-Log and Garlic Fried Rice and a couple orders of the Filipino Lumpia. Let's start with the Garlic Fried rice, it was good and had crispy garlic bits in it. It was good but typical. The Ube Pancakes were pretty good. You can taste Ube flavoring and it was large. I liked the Ube Cream drizzle. The lumpia was crispy and a decent size. I was told it was good and the sauce was tasty. My friends said the Tap-Si-Log was just ok. By the look of the meat, it didn't have that caramelized sauce on the meat and in my opinion that's what makes or breaks the dish. The looks confirmed my assumption as I was told that it was just ok. The service was good as we got seated quickly but it went downhill from there. First, when our food arrived as it was being placed on the table, one server decided to hand it across the table and stuff in the plate fell into my friend's lap, good thing it was just the vinegar sauce that was in a container. But way pass the plate from across the table? and the person didn't even apologize. Next, the server only came by once to refill our waters once. It's not like it was busy. Then when the server finally came, it was just to plop our check on the table and didn't even ask if we needed anything else or how was everything. The staff just sat at the bar talking as if they were the customers. We wondered if they were coming over to take payment and as we tried to get their attention, they avoided looking our way. We finally got the attention of a staff member and let them know we wanted to pay and he told us we had to go to the front. Yet, no one was there. We stood there for about 2 minutes. Lastly, two people were sitting next to us and orders were taken but it seemed like it took a long time for their food to come. They tried to get the staff attention and they were ignored. Finally, someone came over and gave them an excuse that the system went down and had to be reset. What's the excuse if not checking in them? Maybe the staff needs to be reset. The food was average and the service was terrible. I wouldn't come back to this place just cause of the service. It is too bad cause I'd try other things as well.

And Baker's Square closed YEARS ago in SoCal. Missed their pies and baked goods! So imagine my (pleasant) surprise when I found this little place in Palatine! I decided to head there for a brekky on a cool May morning. Stepped in, saw all the breads, pastries, and pies along the front counters- wow. I was greeted warmly and seated instantly. My waitress came right away, and I ordered unleaded (decaf for those in the know). It came in a little pot, ala IHOP, and was really, really GOOD. Wow. Decaf has come a long ways from the Sanka days! I ordered the INN-CREDIBLE V.I.B. which allowed me to order 4 yummy items of my choice - I chose the french toast (yummy and spiced just right albeit w/room temp syrup- not a deal-breaker but notable), a strawberry crepe (totally awesome strawberries, but the crepe was a bit colder than expected); scrambled eggs (always a nice stalwart) and two turkey sausage links (as with the frenchie above, nicely flavored!). The ambience was modern, updated, and felt welcoming and (thankfully) a bit familiar. Brought back some good ol' memories even if only the Baker's Square part of the menu was just pies nowadays. But the Village Inn lives on! And that counts - and I'll return. You should check it out too if you enjoy a good brekky at a classic American diner!
