Decided to try Chaps again (I've lived in town my whole life) with new owners. Service was great! Food was delicious, despises the fish sandwich. It had two fish stick looking pieces on it... very unusual. But the fries were AMAZING! They have a coating that makes them a little crunchy on the outside. Overall would go back, but won't order any fish. P.s. sit in the restaurant area if you want to have conversations with people, the bar is VERY loud. read more

Armada Bar & Grill?? Chaps?? Who knows.... We stopped in to grab some drinks but the service sucked. I left to the bathroom and my friends sat at the bar. When I got out they still hadn't been served or even acknowledged. We finally got our drinks and then she disappeared. For real! Chaps closed. This restaurant is now called "Commercial." First--- beware the three tables along the right-hand wall have barely room to sit. Don't inhale before you attempt to get in. Better yet, avoid those tables! Calamari was unrecognizable, processed to looks like cheese sticks. Not worth $9. Onion soup is nothing I would order again. The onions were apparently boiled. Fish (cod) dinner had four fish sticks, batter deep fried. It was ok. French fries were extremely crispy and thin. I left most of them since they weren't fork-friendly. Chili was a pass (skip it), according to my dinner partner. On a positive note, the restaurant was clean and service pleasant. I tried to like it. Next time I'll order something different. read more

I have been going to Chaps for years, pretty much the same owner who has done some renovations. This round of renovations is hands down the best design and looking for the restaurant side of building. The floors have been refinished, the walls have a dark and light gray shiplap and there is a nice "Welcome to Chaps" on the wall. I didn't make it to the bar side but according to another in our party of 6, the bathrooms are still in rough shape. Hopefully, the bathrooms will also be taken care of. As far as the food it is always good and not to badly priced. We ordered beer batter cod with red skins, French dip, side salad and a chicken salad. Water to drink. Even though our waitress had other tables including party of 8, she took care of us with no problems. read more

This is second time in 3 weeks we've eaten at the new Chaps. Not good! Over cooked fries, pasta dish was soggy and salad was old lettuce. Won't be back until we hear problems have been fixed!!! read more

First off, Chaps Food and Sprits is now called "The Commercial House" in Richmond, Michigan. The food was okay but very pricey. (14 dollars for a flatbread) Also, for a flatbread, a burger, a fajita, a salad, and a wrap it took a whole 40 minutes to get the food out (We were one of 2 groups in the entire restaurant). Another disliking I had were the waiters and waitresses being on their phones almost half the time we were there. The person who was folding napkins with silverware was putting his hands directly on the end of the fork where you would take a bite of food off of. Very disgusting in my opinion. Sorry not a big fan of this place - we tried it 3 times just to be fair but it seemed to get worst every time.  The food was not that great - it was a little on the expensive side (just my opinion) -  My husband had hair in his meal last week and this time I ordered a salad and found a blond hair in it - now that is 2 separate times! That is just gross! The staff is not friendly and we felt like we were bothering them - We could over hear personal conversation about a party - it was almost on the rude side - we needed an extra fork because the one I had was dirty with food stuck to it and I had to ask twice for it. Was in the area and decided to find a quick lunch with my wife. I choose this place after reading a couple of reviews. They had just opened , so the location was quiet, but were greeted quickly. The waitress was very friendly and explained the daily specials. We had our drinks quickly and looked over the menu. My wife asked about their fish and chips and was told they were excellent. They came with a choice of fries in many forms and slaw. I had the Tuna Melt Wrap with Clam Chowder and Fries. My wife's food was excellent, cooked perfect, not greasy in the slightest and the entire meal was exactly as advertised by the waitress. Although we did not order it, they offered an all you can eat version for only 12.99. My Lunch was also excellent, and a great value for the money. Chaps Richmond has been under new management since mid-Feb 2022 and they have made some great changes that has brought me back to this establishment several times since. Good meals, expanded drink selections, yummy cheesecakes (evidently weekends only), great customer service and wait staff always smiling and friendly! This restaurant in Richmond isn't quite as good, but not terrible by any means necessary. I went there for lunch while on my way to a 5K in the Detroit area. The bar area has a pool table, which is a plus. The three main problems with the dining experience are: 1) The lighting is too dim to read the restaurant menus. 2) The table where I was situated in kept tipping. 3) I have to wait for about five minutes for the waitress to greet me. Aside from the cons with the first impressions, the service was quite fast and the server quickly and attentively took my order. I ordered the grilled cheese and soup lunch special. The soup I had with the grilled cheese was tomato and sausage tortellini soup. The soup may taste great, but it was warm (not hot). The grilled cheese tasted decent, but with that being said, the food overall was A-OK. It's open late and one of the few places in little Richmond that has a full dinner menu past 8 PM. Their is a bar side and a dinner side. Good menu. Okay service. Could try a little harder to have better customer service - like refills on pop, tea, coffee. Food is average. Tv's in dining area. Great for groups. I'll probably never be back. Girlfriend and I ordered a bloody Mary. When bartender brought she said if it's not good she'll make hers because someone else made the mix. They tasted like dirty water however I'm not sure how that taste lol. Food was ok, service was definitely mediocre. It's sad when you order a burger asking for it to be cooked medium well and the bartender writes it down only to come back and ask again how the burger should be cooked. Mens bathroom smelled worse than 3 Porta johns I used at the airshow today where there was many people. No soap in bathroom. I should have went to the village in and got an amazing meal with great service at a price you can't believe. This restaurant will not make it under whoever is running it currently. I've been to chaps before and I've never had a bad review about it before but this visit was beyond terrible!! First off, the seating is pretty much seat yourself so that didn't bother me but it took her about 2-3 minutes to bring us menus and then took our drink order but didn't come back with our drinks for about 5 minutes! Keep in mind that there is only 3-4 tables in here at the time! So we order cheese sticks, they were luke warm and honestly were not that good! So then we order, I get the shrimp dinner with a salad, my fiancé gets a turkey club, and my daughters gets a salad with a peanut butter and jelly! The lettuce with my salad was half brown. I only ate 1/4 of it. On top of that, we didn't have silverware so we had to wait for that! So I'm thinking ok, let's just give her one more chance. Her tip has been declining rapidly. She brings the food out and mine and my daughters are fine but she brings out my fiancé a burger instead of his turkey club! I'm like wtf are you serious right now! We def will not be coming back! So I actually came here twice but only ate their once since the first time we went was on a Friday and were planning on getting the all you can eat fish fry but had to leave unexpectedly due to a call from a friend. The second time I came in was for the sunday breakfast buffet. The buffet was rather inexpensive and the good thing about it was that you also had your choice of eggs and other hot items from the kitchen. At the buffet table you have your typical selection, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit, biscuits and gravy, and what looked like a homemade turnover. One of the few restaurants/bars in downtown Richmond. Ordered a quesadilla for lunch recently which was much more fulfilling than I anticipated. The portion size was huge and was great tasting. We also ordered the appetizer platter which was filling in its self. The food is pretty decent overall. They also have nightlife which is nice. They have a pool table too for entertainment. Aug 31st 2017 Usually I love going to chaps. But after yesterday it will be a while. First it took our waitress over 10 mins to get drinks, than another 10 before my boyfriend went and got straws. Than he ordered well done came back pink, and there was a hair in my sandwich. When we told her, she got an attitude. When she brought salads. My daughter needed a fork I said well so do I, we never even got silverware. She didn't fill our drinks at all. It will definitely be a while or I'll have to try another location. Gave another go on March 17 2018 So today I went to chaps after 6 months, horrible service last time. Took waitress forever. Hair in my steak and cheese sandwich.. after today I will never be back. Nichole I think was her name, was probably the worst waitress I have had EVER!! At first she was nice. Gave us a few mins had our drinks right out. Than she brought the salad and went down hill. Both sets of silverware were dirty. Ok whatever, my bf grabbed some off another table. All was good. I was able to eat salad.. I did ask for one more set, for my bf. Never got it. I asked for more bread and butter never got it. Waited 10 mins for drink refills. So after he hair in my steak and cheese I decided to try something different kind of turned off by them now, was gonna try the ruben. It looked so damn good. Until I went to pick it up and a long dark hair laying across it.. with that being said I will never step foot in the Richmond location again. I'll give the other location a try if I'm out that way. I'm pretty disappointed my kids also loved going here.. and nichole next time pay more attention to ur customers than ur conversation with ur work pals. Been coming here for years... almost a decade. Too bad it's just getting bad lately. The food has been just ok the past few visits and the service is slow. We watched our waitress, when she finally decided to bring our salads, take them with her to another table to check on the customers there! Why not bring the food then check on your other tables? She didn't understand the drink I ordered so she told me "we don't have that"..., I know they do but I just ordered a soda instead. Saved money I guess. She brought the salads, saw my empty glass and left. She strolled back by so I asked for a refill and if we could get some bread. All of the other waitresses were bringing salads and bread right to their customers! Then of course our food came out while we had barely started on our salads. This is one of the worst places I have been they forgot half of my salad that I ordered and the chicken was completely uncooked and pink. Also they didn't even come back to check in for a refill for our drinks or add things that was asked for on my friends toaco salad. And another thing is the peperpony pizza tasted and looked like microwave pizza. And finally the last thing is our waitress was wearing a one price body suit that you could see her whole butt and hookers boots. read more

I've been there twice now. First for lunch, had the Ribeye, nice piece of meat for the price. Today I had a mushroom swiss burger with fries and soup for $6.95, Husband had a full slab of ribs, with two beers our bill was only $31.00. Staff was exceptionally accommodating. While we still go here frequently, it's only because of the lack in other restaurants and bars available to the Richmond area. Service is not good at all with the exception of one girl who always seems to have too much on her plate when there. They are usually overstaffed in the dining side (or there is a lot of servers standing around over there just doing nothing) and understaffed on the bar side. We've just grown to expect the lack in service and anything better than barely meeting our needs is a plus. It just seems as if they all hate their job most days which is not something you wish to see in the customer service industry. The biggest annoyance is NO music, nothing, nada, UNLESS you want to pay for the jukebox. It's ridiculous and is less comforting and welcoming than sitting in a corner at a holiday get together. This makes me assume the owner either does not know the dynamics of how to run a bar/restaurant or he is so desperate for money, this is what he resorts to. (And yes, I know what I am talking about since I was in the industry for more than a decade helping failing restaurants around the country). The food is good and inexpensive which is the only reason for going there. If it cost anymore than it did, I'd never be back. The nice thing is I can go there with my husband for a night out with appetizers, dinner and several drinks, and still end up spending less than $50. Their food is what I'd consider a step above a bar menu with something compared to a coney island or a country inn of some sort. Portions are always huge and their menu has some unique recipes/ingredients that you don't normally find. Would I recommend going there? We were told by a friend that the food was good.... We found out the hard way it was not. I ordered the fried chicken dinner. It was about the worst chicken dinner I have ever seen. It should be taken off the menu....The chicken was the size of a pigeon ,no meat on it ,to speak of.... and very over cooked. A total rip off at any price. This place is always dependable and constant! My family and i went in order a pizza the stampede to be exact with pepperoni, extra cheese, sausage, ham, and bacon. and a anipasto salad. the pizza came out hot and fresh and our server told us that there was some sort of a whole on the bottom of the pizza and that they are making us another small one too. What nice people other places they wouldnt have said anything and waited for the customer to complain. As for chaps what a classy way to do things and so we could only eat half the pizza anyways so we had some leftovers for later. Excellent service and hospitality! will be back again! read more

Rib eye was advertised as a "special" for 17.95 but it was the same price in the regular menu. It was described as "served with caramelized mushrooms and onions" but came without. Boyfriend was not "allowed" to substitute a veggie for a soup or salad. Then the server took my entire plate back for five minutes. My boyfriend was half way through his meal when mine arrived with undercooked mushrooms and onions, blackened steak, (not seasoned but burnt to a crisp). It was supposed to be medium but it was a hockey puck. I didn't want to complain further as we had not been out for dinner in a long time due to illness. It was something we were really looking forward to. How disappointing. To top it off, the waitress kept saying "no problem, no problem, no problem". Who says that? I didn't know your guests requests were a "problem". Anytime I've sat at the bar and ordered a meal, the bartender is always attentive and makes sure the meal is served correctly.
