Chapultepec, is my favorite taco spot in South Florida. The best time to go is Friday through Sunday night. They bring the grills out and cook tacos outside until about 3 AM. The tacos are classic-style Mexican tacos, just cilantro, onions, sauce, and meat (none of that gringo stuff). The Al pastor is my favorite and a must try IMO. They serve many different cuts of meat; lingua, tripe, and barbacoa to name a few. They also have menu items served inside like Tortas and fish, but I stick to the tacos. But yesterday after I had not been here in a couple of months, they gave me salsa that was literally water, and they gave me horchata which was grossly watered down. It's been a while since I've been here so I was really excited to have dinner here. Unfortunately, I was completely disappointed with everything. I feel like the food quality has gone down and flavor was lacking. The portions were fine but the quality was not worth the price. I agree with another reviewer about the chips and salsa. Salsa tastes like it's store bought and the chips were stale. The pozole was super greasy and lacked flavor. The same with the rice, nothing close to what Mexican rice should taste like. I used to really love this place for their taco stand which they have set up over the weekend but it's not what it used to be. Solid and authentic local Mexican restaurant very close to our hotel in Adventura. The place was buzzing with locals enjoying their food and we were quickly given menus and refreshments to get started. Had a good not great plate of carne asada tacos on corn tortillas. Had very good fried gorditas stuffed with pulled barbacoa shredded pork that when you add their homemade and fiery hot green sauce made my taste buds sing. I've eaten from here 3 times and 1st time was to go and 2nd time inside..food was good but service was bad and slow. This 3rd time the food and service was terrible the fajitas were completely burned hard to scrap off meat from pan tastes like metal. The shredded chicken was bland too and the margaritas were straight syrup. Total disappointment. We could barely even hear each other because the music was so loud. Closest thing to authentic Mexican food I've had in south Fl! Food is amazing with good flavor and the lemonade is delicious. Service can be a little slow at times it seems they may not have a lot of staff but they're usually pretty quick with getting the food out. (based on my limited travel experience, haha) The restaurant is not on Hallandale Beach Blvd, but off it, and the brightly lit signs are visible from the main street, especially if you are heading west, it's just pass the railway track. They set up a big grill al fresco, and you simply line up and order. The selection is written on a piece of paper, with about 9 varieties on my visit. As you can imagine, traditional varieties, no fish, kale, that kind of stuff. They warm the tortilla and heat the meat right in front of you. After getting the naked tacos, you proceed to add toppings and salsa and then pay. It's $2 each. There are tables set up for you to enjoy it right there, you can get drinks too. They even provide hand sanitizer, and a box of plastic bags should you need to take the lime, onion and cilantro to go. Good and cheap street food at its best!! read more

They have an extensive menu and was surprised to see "pupusas" (og from El Salvador) but when i asked if it came w/ the pickled veggies and hot sauce the waitress said no - disappointed but it is a mx rest after all. The quest to find authentic Mexican food and close to home has ended. So a Saturday night and we felt like finding someplace new. Located west of Federal Highway but East of 95 exit of Hallandale Beach Boulevard. They are set in a ways from the road in their own building. We were early evening before they started cooking outside. Once inside we were transported to South of the Border. Easily you could close your eyes and think you caught a flight. Better for us it is here in Hallandale. So we start with beers so when in Rome so to speak I order Corona. To start we get an order of chips and guacamole. For my main course my favorite dish Chile Relleno. Served stuffed with cheese and a side of Mexican beans and rice. The only negative the plate itself could have been hotter. Perhaps the air condtioning got the better of it before I did. The perfect amount of food. On the way out there was lines of people waiting outside for what they were cooking out there. 3.5 stars Found this place on yelp and was a little worried with the mixed reviews. It was not busy on the Sunday afternoon we visited for lunch. You have to pay for chips and pico de gallo. We requested salsa, which is a green spicy salsa. We added the pico to the salsa and it was great. The chips are thick fried flour tortillas. The waitress says their tortillas are made locally and delivered. They did taste fresh. The tacos are topped with onion and cilantro. The taco shell is corn soft tortilla that is lightly grilled to make it have a little crisp. The enchilada was nothing special. The sope was very good and was topped with cojita cheese, beans, meat. The sope is a puffy fried corn tortialla (almost like an arepa). The refried beans had good flavor and were not super thick. Service was okay. It looked like there was one cook in the small kitchen which was fine since there were only a couple tables with people. If it were busy, it might take forever. There is free parking in the attached parking lot. The restaurant is hard to see from Hallandale Beach Blvd. IT is set back from the road. If in the area, I would go again. read more

I've been a guest of Chapultepec 4 times now, and that's given me pretty good exposure to different aspects of the menu. Reviews on Yelp are mixed, but I think there are some menu items here that are extraordinary, and I'm not finished exploring yet. What brought me here the first couple of times was a friend who was a big fan of the CHILES RELLENOS. These are $9 (I uploaded a picture), and are one of the best things I've eaten in 2014: Greasy, cheesy, spicy... just so good that the next day I was already craving them again. Working my way down the menu (which I also added a picture of), I tried the HUARCHES: these are something I'd never even heard of, and apparently take their name from the sandals which the thick corn base resembles. Again these are really authentic tasting, totally unique for me, and really set Chapultepec apart from anywhere else I've been in SoFla. This weekend I stopped in twice: once for the sit down meal in the (zero ambiance) dining room, and once for nighttime tacos served weekend nights from the front patio (the dining room itself was surprisingly closed at 9pm on a Saturday, so I'm not exactly sure what the hours of operation are, as I thought I'd been there around that time on a Saturday a few months before). The TACOS are $2 each, and I preferred the CARNE ASADA (steak) to the CHICHARRON (pork rind?) ones, which had a strange rubbery texture. To drink, the HORCHATA is something I see so infrequently that I had to have it - a little expensive for a drink at $4, but this drink (made with different ingredients different places, but which I'd describe as tasting like liquid rice pudding). Great for taming the heat of the spicy dishes. If you go with someone I would definitely recommend the Chiles Rellenos on the first visit - great to share as it is a heavy dish. If I were rating Chapultepec strictly on this entree, it would be a solid 5-stars. read more

My experience here was awful. I ordered Sope's and Flautas and they put barely any meat in either dish. It felt like I was paying for just the lettuce, rice and beans. The meat that was in the dish was extremely overcooked and not good. To make matters worse, I ordered Mexican corn which is supposed to be covered in cheese: they brought it out after my entree and it came out like this. Was searching for a taco place and stumbled upon this one. I thought they were okay. The tacos were seasoned okay and the meat wasn't dry. Can't really compare to Texas tacos though. My friend got the burrito and she said it was really good however she would have liked to hold and eat it not with a knife and forks. The quesadilla was a lot smaller than expected but it was an appetizer. Overall it was an okay experience. Not sure if I would come back.
