Been here since they opened. If they stayed the way things were going when they opened, it would be a one star review, but something clicked and they got there act together. I have tried several things on there mansion of a menu, my favorite being the Smokehouse burger. GRILLED BRUSSEL SPROUTS are out of this world. Like you boarded a spaceship and have been flown into a different universe.the staff are some of the nicest people you could meet, they are very fast and have food sitting at your table before you know it. For those beer and alcohol people, they have a very HUGE bar full of different selections of alcohol. We regularly eat at the Mint Hill location. However, we arrived yesterday (Sunday) at 2pm for a late lunch. There were a few tables filled on the patio and a number of them in the main room. A lot of open tables and at least 4 servers. We were told a 30 minute wait. There were 3 staff behind the hostess desk - standing around and not really doing anything. The table to the right when we walked in was full of dirty dishes (a long with several others that weren't cleaned off). Finally when 30 minutes were almost up, one of the young hosts came over and asked if we would be ok if we sat at that table with the dirty dishes once it was cleaned. After 5 more minutes, the table still wasn't cleaned. We gave up and left! read more

Just had dinner here for the first time. They are brand dandy new so any so called "negative observations" - are only because they are new....it should not be held against them in any way. Most places take a few months to find their rhythm if they are a chain. Which CharBar 7 is... So....I gave them a five star for food delivery speed, quality of food prep/presentation and flavor as well as server personality and pleasantness. I had the 12oz ribeye, side salad and sauteed spinach with a slice of garlic/Texas toast. Amazing!!! Cooked Medium and delivered as such. Wonderful seasoning. Suggestions for the chef...serve a slice of fresh lemon to put over the spinach to give it a nice flavorful zing. It breaks up the spinachs ability to put a chalky feel on the back of your teeth. A bit oily/buttery so to a little lighter. Otherwise really good!! Their house Merlot is very good, fruity and smooth. Desserts were great. Glad the menu wasn't huge, they definitely focused on the right mix. I had to ask for extra napkins, I had to ask for A1, I counted apx 14 servers and bar staff and while seated quickly and with a smile, took almost ten minutes to get someone to take my order. For a drink but I was ready with my food too :D Having said that...folks that's just normal growing pains and training which CharBar did in spades tonight! Great job, every waitress I saw had someone shadowing them. It was quiet when I got here before 5. The staff were amazingly pleasant and attentive once served. Which is why I said the five star is for what counts.... everything was what I'd expect and want in a new place to eat out. You shouldn't and can't write a review bashing what amounts to training. Time will tell, wait six months and write another review but from what I saw tonight? Great new place!! Can't wait to come back again. Just go during the week and before 530pm to avoid crowds. We've been here 4x and it's been amazing every time. The food is flavorful and filling. Even the kids menu has options other than kid Mac and chicken fingers, amazing! Worst meal and service in a long time. Wife and had a rare date night. Started with a Caesar salad that was so fishy smelling and tasting that I had to set it on another table so we couldn't smell it. Waiter kind of laughed it off while another waitress came over and asked if she could get us something different. Ordered steak medium and it was so rare it was cold. No offer to replace, just comped meal. Which was fine as I was ready to get out of there. Server would look at empty glass and ask if wanted more tea rather than just bringing it. My husband and I enjoy getting the chance to go out and enjoy a great meal together. We decided to give this restaurant a try. I'm so glad I suggested it. This place was wonderful. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. We were seated right away. Our drinks were brought out in a flash. (If you LOVE sweet tea... order it!) I don't even think we waited longer than 10 minutes before our food was brought out. Super great service. As an appetizer we tried the pretzels with cheese dip. I ordered the black bean burger with sweet potato tater tots. My husband ordered the French onion steak dip hoagie with a side of shaved brussel sprouts and bacon. The food was AMAZING. Love the look and feel of this place! It's very spacious and has a great atmosphere. I had the ahi tuna "Asian" salad, which was lite and delightful. Very yummy. Hubs had the Leap Year burger and our kid has the kids cheese burger. They both said the burgers were amazing. The only thing we had that we weren't crazy about was the beer battered mushroom app. It was lacking salt and didn't taste fresh. The place was not crowded at all at 1pm on a Saturday. Service was ok. I hate when I specifically say water NO lemon and they say ok and what do ya know--lemon. Overall though great food. We'll be back! read more

If you go to Char Bar please try the Blackened mahi mahi you will not be disappointed! There are lots of measures in place for social distance and the staff is amazing. If you want outdoor dining without the heat you can sit outside in the covered patio. Great place in Mint Hill that we love visiting! Also a great kids menu for the kiddos read more

Wound up here because DunWellz had a wait. There's a reason this place did not. Our waitress, Haley, was great. Our food was not. Hubby's medium burger was very pink inside. Fries cold. Bleh. My gluten free bun was wet from the red meat juices and fell completely apart. Bleh. My side of broccoli was cold. Bleh. It was so loud, we had to shout to hear one another. Not relaxing at all. Providing 3 stars tonight was a stretch because it really should have been 1 star, but thanks to Stephany for saving the night. This is usually our go to and my mom was in town and took her to have a great birthday dinner. Didn't happen since apparently there were not enough servers and couldn't keep up with the patrons at the tables. At one point saw the manager come out of the kitchen, look around and then go back in. So at that point I knew he was working the kitchen. Meal was not to par too and must have sat under the heat lamps and fish was soggy. Thank God for Stephany who apparently was over worked but had a huge smile and kept us laughing. This was our first visit. We stopped in after watching a soccer game one Saturday evening. It was close to 10:00 PM and the restaurant was fairly empty. We sat at the bar top and the service was just okay. We asked the bartender for recommendations and wound up ordering a burger he said was good. It was just ok. EDIT: I hate to say this, because the soft opening set the restaurant up for so much potential and I wanted this to be a great new spot in Mint Hill. I've gone back three times since my initial review, each time hoping it was just an "off day" for the Char Bar staff. Unfortunately, it seems pretty consistent. It's almost as if the restaurant is functioning in slow motion. Each time I've gone since the soft opening, we are seated and it's a 15 minute wait until a drink is placed in front of you. This has been a mixture of not having staff attend to the table quickly and putting in a drink order that takes an extremely long time. I've never been on a night where it was overly busy by any means, so I can't figure out what the issue is. The service doesn't improve after that though, last night we weren't served our entrees for 45 minutes after ordering...they were both salads. One had grilled chicken and one was a salmon patty (the salad was served with grilled salmon making it an even longer wait on top of that for the correct protein), but it should not have taken that long. Something is just not coming together at this location. I'm not sure if the staff needs to be better trained, the manager needs to be more involved or the communication needs to improve between front and back of house...but something needs to change. Glancing through the other reviews it seems like this is pretty consistent. I would love to see it turn around! read more

This place is better than I expected, Apparently they have new managers. Our food was very good for the price. My Caesar salad was the way I like it. Heavy on the dressing and heavy on the cheese. Maybe a it's not to everyone's taste, but I loved it! And it was $4. The floor was very greasy around the bathrooms, they really need to work on that. The Hispanic female manager refused to turn it down to a level where people can talk to each other. The place was filled with paying middle aged to older people not a bunch of football fans. I was excited for a new place in Mint Hill but unfortunately never got to try them out and will likely not come back until they get a new manager and better staff. Manager was very rude to husband so we had to leave and he refuses to go back. On different occasion was extremely rude to friends of ours and they will not go back. Same thing with another set of friends. Who hired this man? He has unfortunately pissed off a group of people that know a lot of people and spend a lot of money going out. This could have been one of those places but we will not support a business that does not respect our presence and money. Went with a large group we tried to call ahead but were told when we called that you could only do that two or more hours ahead. So we did not get put on the wait list till we got there. Got there close to 9 pm and the wait was 30 -40 mins , not too bad considering we had a group. Inside the decor was nice but it was way too loud. We had to speak very loudly just to be heard across a 2.5 foot wide table. Which was one of those high tables which I find uncomfortable. When ordering I ordered from a section called PLATED (see pic). Under the section's title it says ( Served with one side) with a list of sides under the section. Each item in the section is listed in bold with a discrimination of the dish under the name of the item. One would think that you get the described dish and you get to pick one of the sides listed. If you thought that you would be wrong. I ordered the Fish AND Chips. Well when I said what side I wanted I was told the chips part of the (Fish AND Chips) was my side. Again see pic. One of the items description said served with a mixed green salad. I guess that was the side for that one. And I guess the chicken finger plate the side is honey mustard dipping sauce. So for two small pieces of cod and some potato chips with a sweet tea (notice in the pic the glass was empty, that happened a lot which is a sin in the hot south) the cost was just over $20 before tip. Overall it was just ok. And plan to bring your phone because that's how they let you know your table is ready (you have to give your phone number) plus you will need your phone to text the people at the table with you cause you can't hear what they are saying. read more

Came here for lunch, i decided on the prime rib french dip which was awesome. I got a side of baked potato, which was huge. My wife got the smokehouse burger which was good along with tater tots. I gave them 4 because the food was great. However, make sure you have time to wait because the staff works on the slow side. All in all, the place is awesome and clean. Great place to watch the game, get a brew amd relax. Next time, I wanna try the outdoor patio with fireplace. read more

Arrived at Charbar in Mint Hill and gave our name to the hostess. She told us the wait would be about 20 or 25 minutes. After a few minutes, I got bored and wandered around. I came back to the hostess station and said, "Are you guys shorthanded tonight? I see four tables available on this side and four tables available on the other side." She told me that they had gotten busy earlier and had to give the kitchen a break. I told her I understood and we went back to waiting. For 45 minutes we stood within 5 feet of the hostess station and watched them eat Ansomething from the kitchen. During this time they never even acknowledge us or apologized for the additional wait. In the meantime, we watched several groups come in, give the hostess a hug and get seated immediately. Obviously the trick to getting seated in a timely fashion at Charbar is to be friends with one of the hostesses. We finally left and went next-door to Hawthornes, which was also busy but, in a very reasonable amount of time, we were seated and taken care of. They even apologized for the very brief wait that we had to endure. We will never return to Charbar. About a year ago we visited Charbar in Mint Hill and the service was Terrible - please notice the capital T and read my previous review.I swore that I would never return; however, in all fairness, tonight the wife was working late and I wanted a place where I could get a good burger, a cold beer, and watch a baseball game on TV so I decided to give it another try. I am very glad that I did. Apparently they have an entirely new staff because the bartender who served me (her name was Lauren) was fabulous. She was very attentive and helpful and made sure that everything was exactly as I ordered it. I asked the manager (Candace) if she could switch one of the TVs over to the Braves game for me and she immediately took care of it. I wasn't sure what station they were playing on and she went to the trouble of tracking it down for me. The food was fantastic, the service was incredible and I had a great visit. This was our 3rd attempt for this place. Its so convenient and there aren't alot of choices in Mint Hill, but again, we waited to sit, we waited longer for food, we even waited to pay. Seems to be more of a management issue. Agree with the other reviewer, staff are slow, but question if its kitchen staff or wait staff. None-the-less if you don't have time to wait and wait and wait, might want to choose somewhere else. read more

We did not enjoy our experience on our 24th wedding anniversary at this restaurant. I spent most of my time during my meal swatting flies. My pub steak was supposed to be medium well (slightly pink) but came overcooked, not juicy, and so dry that it was almost flavorless. My wife has been here before and has raved about the fish and chips. The pieces of fish on her fish and chips order she received were a different tasting fish and very strong tasting. Just moved to Mint Hill and came for football Sunday. The beer is served cool but not cold. Young, inexperienced bartenders and servers. DO NOT order food here. Ordered the buffalo chicken dip appetizer and it was like mayonnaise, buffalo sauce and cheese mixed together. NO CHICKEN. The pitas weren't even toasted-straight out of the bag cold. So that covers the atmosphere. Noise, well like all the rest, they think their customers are all deaf. So drinks, ask for a tea ice tea with lemon, sorry out of lemons. And the tea was very weak, most likely as it appeared to be poured about 30 min prior, the ice (what was not melted) was little pieces of smooth ice floating on top. Limp wilty lettuce in the salads. The Quesada was cold and had almost returned to solid cheese, a few chips large enough to dip and the rest crumbs. But to finish it off, first the chicken wings (flavorless and were closer to the size of Robin wings) were still pink inside and then there was the one that still had feathers on it. I AM SERIOUS, feathers covered with batter and fried. When the manager arrived at the table, a man with the personality of a snail, who simply told us " we buy our wings from an outside producer and have no control, we try to catch stuff like the feathers before we cook them but sometimes they get missed, I will take them off your bill" and with that walked away. Service, well, they have to start someplace. It took 5 minuets to find a waitress who would make eye-contact to get them to the table. This was our first experience with any of these Char grill places. Everyone in our party of 4 left most of the food on the plate. We had a variety of menu items, beef, chicken, salmon and most of it was left, no one wanted a to go box. If you are hankering for a few wings to watch a game with, suggest, stay home, you can turn the TV to a volume that is not painful, and order some wings from any number of places, they will be better and you can have fresh ice in your drinks.
