All those birds being cooked only to be consumed by customers
    Damien J.

Sophia and I traveled here over the weekend for lunch. Years ago, we dined at their flagship location in Virginia Beach where the food was really good. That was the plan until I remembered they opened up a second spot here over 2 years ago. Would the long trek result in good vibes? When we walked in, every table was taken. This one is smaller to the Virginia Beach local and is more designed for takeout. But luckily, it was a team of people eating lunch so they were all finishing up. And the staff made sure to clean each table. Huge plus in my book. Just like in Va Beach, you have to go to the counter to order. You actually get a very good view of rotisserie chicken being cooked. Now that would make anybody hungry. I chose the 1/2 chicken meal with two sides (Yucca fries and french fries) with white meat added for an extra charge. This meal was delicious. The chicken was cooked through and through not skimping on the seasoning. And both sides were plenty. They also gave out sauces which you could dip either the chicken or side in. As you guessed, I got full after eating one piece and saved the rest for dinner still tasting the same. Delicious Peruvian chicken....can't go wrong at all. This meal truly delivered for yours truly. We'll be back here definitely :)

Generous portions and delicious food! My daughter and I split the 1/2 chicken along with plantains and beans with rice for $15. The portion was HUGE. We had plenty of leftovers for a meal the next day. The plantains were cooked perfectly. You definitely want to get extra green and yellow sauces. The green sauce is a spicy cilantro sauce. The yellow sauce isn't spicy. The watermelon soda was also very refreshing for summer! There are some seats inside, but the restaurant definitely does more takeout orders.

The first visit was a fluke or something. The second visit was a complete 180. Chaotic nightmare. We ordered 3 different meals. Two came out fine. Mine was a mistake after mistake. For some reason, they could not get my side correct! Twice they gave me someone else's order. I wound up with three meals and 4 different sides because they kept messing it up. The line was out the door and they were not organized enough to keep up. It wasn't just my order that was wrong. Several customers waited over 30 minutes for their food. They are quick to take your money but slow to give you food (if they even give it to your right). I was deeply disappointed. I would give them a second chance but then I saw in the window how their food is prepared. Nope. I will not support animal cruelty.

The food is delicious! I've had the Peruvian chicken, whole wings, and the chicken bowl. They give you great portions. The rice and beans are great. The plantains remind me of a Caribbean island. Everything tastes amazing. The flavors meld together nicely. The service is good. They even have tables and window seating. Some items are made to order, but they get you your order as soon as they can. It's a great place to grab dinner or lunch. Check it out!

For it to be my first time trying this new spot, I'm a fan! My husbae decided to try it out and I opted to try something simple. A chicken bowl. Not sure how it comes but I had chicken rice cheese onions and added lettuce to it. I thought I needed some type of sauce but I didn't ... very tasty. My husbae mentioned his meal was good too. We will definitely try more of the menu soon. At this point, I recommend you give this place a try. I'd suggest try the chicken first since that's the name of the restaurant then move on to other items. Parking on a good day it can be super busy since it's located among a strip mall of other popular businesses such as: Starbucks Navy Federal a nailshop and a pizza shop to mention a few. Check them out if you're in the area Have fun and enjoy life:)

I enjoyed having lunch at Charcoal Chicken. Walked in, instantly greeted by friendly staff. The person taking our order was very enthusiastic about the food. We got the quartered chicken with sides . The chicken was delicious and juicy. My favorite side was the plantains . They had a variety of drinks, cool desserts like tres leches and limoncello cake, and more. Place was clean and organized. They were really great about giving extra sauces. Parking was ample, there are lots of stores and places to eat next door. I think this is a cool concept, whole , quartered rotisserie chicken on the go, and actually haven't had Peruvian style to go chicken since moving here to the 757. These are very popular where I'm from in Northern Virginia. So glad I found this place !

Service: 2/5, staff seemed friendly when we first entered the building but soon after became very pushy for us to order. Keep in mind we're not from the area and hadn't had time to review the menu. In the cashier's haste he didn't hear me say I wanted white meat chicken but agreed to correct his error with no issue (there is an up charge for white meat). Food: 3.5/5, chicken was really good as it was seasoned well and not dry. I opted for the veggies which were heavy on zucchini which I like but not that much. The fried rice was very tasty to include chicken pieces among the egg and veggies. The yellow and green sauces were good (better than Chicken Fiesta in my opinion). Not pictured are the garlic pepper wingettes which my daughter stated were very good. My only complaint with the combo they offered was you could not swap out the fries (which my sister in love stated weren't that great) tho all the small sides are priced the same. Ambiance: super casual dining with the option to eat in or carry out, clean.

I hadn't eaten there in over five years, so I was hoping the food was still as good as I remembered. My visit was on a Friday evening, around 6:00 or 6:30 PM. The dining room was relatively quiet, with only two other customers present, and I was immediately greeted upon walking in. I asked the cashier about the new menu item, the "Lamb Chops." He described them as pan-fried, noting that an order includes two to three nice-sized chops and comes with two sides. I decided to order the lamb chops to go, selecting the arroz chaufa (fried rice) which was a $1 upcharge and plantains as my sides. I was extremely disappointed when I opened my order and found that I had been served lamb shoulder for $18 and not the lamb chops I expected (typically rib or loin chops). To add to my disappointment the quality of the Lamb was very poor; it was tough, contained an excessive amount of connective tissue and fat, and was ultimately inedible. I ended up having to throw the entire portion away. The arroz chaufa also had inconsistent quality. While the flavor was good, the texture varied significantly, with parts being mushy and overcooked, and others remaining hard and undercooked. The Plantains were cut too thick and were also undercooked. Given the cost and the expectation associated with "Lamb Chops," I was extremely unhappy with my meal. I believe the cut of meat served was misrepresented, falsely advertised and the quality was unacceptable. I certainly cannot recommend this item to others and regret not ordering the chicken, which I know your restaurant prepares well.

The restaurant was clean, well-lit, and had plenty of available seating. I ordered the quarter chicken with Peruvian fried rice and sweet plantains. Everything was exceptional; the rice and plantains were cooked perfectly, and while I did think the chicken was slightly salty, it was still very tasty. I also enjoyed the green sauce provided, though the food was flavorful enough on its own. My only minor suggestion is for the staff to ask guests whether they prefer white or dark meat when ordering. Aside from that, the meal was excellent. If you are looking for authentic, great-tasting Peruvian chicken, I highly recommend stopping by El Pico de Oro.

However, we decided to stay and order lomo saltado, one with white rice, the other with fried rice. To be fair, the food wasn't bad. The flavors were fine, but to us, it just didn't taste like authentic Peruvian food. If you're looking for a quick, casual meal and aren't expecting a traditional Peruvian dining experience, this place may work for you. The place is setup more as a fast food place than a restaurant. You order and pay then sit down. From the short time we were there it looks like they do mostly takeout service rather than dine in and you'll feel it. Unfortunately, based on our experience, this wouldn't be a place we'd return to when looking for Peruvian food.

I liked the charcoal flavor of the chicken 7/10 but the rice was dry and hard, the beans were over cooked and flavorless, the veggies were mushy and lacked seasoning as well. The lack of cleanliness is a huge deal for me because if the front of the house is nasty, the back couldn't be any better. This place is a no for me.

We decided to eat near the entrance to their supermarket. It took a while for us to roam through the menu, but decided on what we wanted a few minutes after getting seates. I chose a 1/2 chicken with two sides (fried yucca and french fries). The Peruvian chicken was pretty good and flavorful. Both the fried yucca and fries could've been seasoned more, but were plentiful. I actually saved half of my meal for takeout and tasted well for dinner. Unfortunately, the bad part of our visit was the decor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall which has seen better days. Seats at the booth are torn up.....literally. The tables are outdated. The floor is in pretty bad shape, especially near the bar area. And in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser was not connected to the wall and instead, laying on the floor.
