    Hot Char'd
    Tara A.

Got take out. The food was put in a box and then put in the bag that's open. I wish the take out was better sealed. I'm surprised they didn't have the option to add bacon. I got the hot chard burger and the duck fat fries. The fries were good, nothing special. The burger was really messy. Didn't have much structure. Burger tasted good but hard to eat. The hot chard sauce was nice but could be spicier. Would probably go to other burger places over this.

I like a good burger, every now and again. I was a fan of Burger Fi (which this place used to be); in fact I wish it would come back. I'm not a fan of the smashed burger concept, but that's what's on offer here. Not a dealbreaker, just not my preference. They offer chicken tenders, fries and onion rings that are fried in duck fat. I thought that was very interesting, so I had to try it. I've been twice. My first visit was a couple of months ago I had a single Char'd along with fries and a drink. With tax and tip it was $25. Forget the price, I wasn't all that impressed with the meal - the patty was about the size of a McDonald's hamburger. Given the area, it's about what to expect for lunch - but it wasn't a wow moment. I decided to give it another try last week; this time I opted for the 3pc chicken tenders and fries, with a drink. Came to about $25; the tenders were crispy and juicy, but I didn't love them. Fries were the same - maybe its me, but I didn't love them either and I have to wonder if the duck fat had anything to do with it? I've only ever heard of it being used - and that was in a John Wick movie, I don't know anything about the practice itself. So, I've been twice and I've not been overly impressed with either visit, so I'll probably go to the Five Guys on the Pike if I get a hankering for a burger, or just pick something else. Too pricey for what you get, in my opinion. But it isn't terrible.

    The burgers. They were good.

Halal beef seems to be trending in restaurants that are opening in our area. Char'd is no exception! Char'd is known for their grass fed beef, duck fat fries, and no seed oil used in their cooking. So, I was excited to try their food. You can give your order at the counter and the gentleman who waited on us was very nice and helpful. They do not have gluten free buns, but they do have lettuce cups, where they put hamburgers or cheeseburgers on a large slice of lettuce. Unfortunately, for our order they sent out both of our orders on buns. But, the restaurant remade our order with the lettuce cups pretty quickly. The fries were fabulous. We were both big fans of the duck fat fries. The hamburgers were good too. But, like other reviewers, I agree, the prices are very high. I paid $36 dollars for 2 single burgers, one order of fries, and one water. With tip it was $40. The place is modern decor, with both outside and indoor seating. I really liked the wall art. So, good service, nice decor, but high prices.

Each fillet was fried to perfection in Duck Fat, and the slightly sweet flavor was enjoyable.

My son wanted a kids burger with no cheese and extra pickles, they had to remake it because it had cheese and then it came without pickles. We had to get attention to get some finally. I ordered a crab roll which was great and my husband enjoyed his food. He was here for work and we tagged along, so it was nice to have in the hotel.

Some of the servers are super great, and some are not so much. When a burger without certain ingredients was ordered, one waiter rudely said "then what do you want on the burger" however, the burger still had plenty of ingredients listed, that the person ordering didn't ask to be left off. It's difficult to order a plain burger with the only burger on the menu has bacon and cheese. The food is standard fare. Burgers, sandwiches, salads. The chef pays attention to allergens. I've tried the shrimp roll, the Caesar salad, and the turkey club. All of these can be made gluten free, although the menu doesn't denote it. Another in my party enjoyed the shrimp tacos and the burger. Being inside the Marriott, it is a little overpriced, but the food is good, just hit or miss with service. Great for a quick bite if you're staying in the Marriott.

The…read moreexperience was not good so, since then, I have refused to return even after it changed to Glenwood's. My philosophy is that there are simply too many restaurants in the world to return to a bad one. However, I was not aware that Glenwood's has upped its game. A lot! A helluva lot!!! While the ownership is still the same, everything else has changed - for the better! The dining room is neutral and completely understated. Quiet interior. Hushed energy and soft music. Beautiful finishes. Every surface I touched was clean, warm and modern. The service too was excellent. The hostess was friendly. She led us to one of the biggest booths I have ever occupied. Our server, Erika, was friendly too - also fast, good, charming, well-spoken and hard working. She helped us navigate the menu and made our dining experience really really nice. She is a credit to the restaurant! Of course, you go to a restaurant for the food and Glenwood's does NOT disappoint here either. Based on Erika's suggestion, we started with the Ahi Tuna Battera - a kind of sushi "roll" that is shaped/designed more like layered lasagne (Erika's description, not mine). It was great and almost too big for appetizer size. But I'm not complaining! For our main course, we both ordered the Fire Roasted Rotisserie Chicken. OMG! Delicious. Moist moist MOIST!!! I do not know what the chef put in that marinade but it was out of this world fantastic. Big big BIG!!! A half chicken with plenty of succulent meat on it. Neither one of us spoke until our chickens were picked clean. I only wish I could rotisserie a chicken that good! It was one of the best chickens I have ever eaten. For dessert, we gobbled down the cheesecake, making official gluttons out of ourselves! It was creamy, substantial and the perfect finish to our great meal. The negative to Glenwood's is its location. It is in a non-descript Rockville office building that is nothing special; but locked up and dark at nighttime. There is no other retail business within sight of the restaurant. This weird, lonely location gives it an abandoned - almost desolate - ambiance from the exterior. Driving by, I had almost thought it was a dining room for a retirement home. So, I started out this review by explaining that my bad experience at Stanford Grill kept me from enjoying a good dining experience at Glenwood's. I could not ignore the taint Stanford had given that place. But Glenwood's is a completely different place. The menu had so many great dishes that I want to return and try. I will definitely be back and I can see it becoming "my place." I highly recommend Glenwood's for a great meal in a great restaurant!
