This was my first visit to Poyoteca! I had seen it from the outside, but only ordered online and had delivery for years .... It helped to get us through the shut-down lock-downs of the pandemic! I had the veggie burrito and flan. Both were absolutely delicious! I also love their green beans, mashed potato, and other things you can put together in a veggie sides dish -- you get to choose four. It's great! They have mac and cheese, too .... I really enjoy the food but of course, it's the art that drew me in the most in the first place -- even when first seeing it online years ago, I found the look of the logo to be very visually appealing. As well, this is much of what I so liked during my first dine-in experience. The only thing I didn't like was that it was rather loud. Well, it also happened to be very cold but it was very cold out that night and I was stuck wearing warm-weather clothes from the warmth earlier in the day, so ... it was a bit uncomfortable but also, I was having to consider someone else's comfort who found it to be much louder & colder ('freezing,' in fact!), than I did. The metal chairs are rather hard. There are booths with soft cushions, too -- so you have your choice. The coolest thing is if you're a fire-lover, sometimes they cook with what appears to be a flash-frying method and the flames are really big and bright -- so cool to see! If you eat with your eyes, there are many visual treats to be had here! If you just eat with your mouth, there are plenty of tasty treats! It's an all-around, all-over taste and other-senses sensation! (Filling, too -- I believe you will not leave here hungry!) Overall, I highly recommend it! read more

Poyteca's whole chicken takeout meal is the best dinner rescue ever! Takeout is super fast and friendly-they made our yucca fries fresh on the spot. The chicken is hot, tasty, juicy, and meaty. Although we didn't get it this time, one of my favorite sides is the honey roasted carrots and Brussel sprouts. Lots of sauces are provided for the chicken and fries - green is a bit spicy while the yellow sauce is mayo-based. Delicious!! read more

A good place to have a nice quick meal where you order at the cash register and can sit inside to have a meal. When getting any dish with steak, it can be a hit or miss on if it's cooked well and soft. I'm glad we took the chance and got the delicious steak quesadilla as the steak was cooked soft and tender with mozzarella cheese. It came with diced tomato, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. You can also choose from 2 types of sauces. If you order a burrito or quesadilla, you can add a side for an extra $2. We got the Mac and cheese which the pasta was cooked till very soft. We also got the salchipapa, basically French fries with sliced hot dogs which is usually a favorite for small kids. I appreciated that we can get unlimited refills on the soda. The tres leches was delicious and I would definitely come back to get more. If you like even sweeter desserts, the flan was dense and very sweet. But perfect for those with a sweet tooth. read more

The roasted brussel sprouts and carrots tasted better than many of the roasted vegetables that I have had at fine dining restaurants. The macaroni and cheese and plaintains hit it out the park. I've stayed away from this place based on my last visit, but decided to see if they've improved. Was craving Peruvian chicken, so decided to get the family meal and see how much of a value it was. It was about $35 and includes a whole chicken and 3 sides, which I got yucca, brussel sprouts, and plantains. When I was watching them pack everything up, I thought maybe the sides would be bigger. Not sure the size of the container, but they packed it with plantains, probably got more than a dozen of huge pieces. The yucca was a huge container and packed with more than enough which was great. The chicken was seasoned nicely and a good size which was a concern the last time here. Usually not a fan of white meat, but this was pretty moist and bigger than my favorite leg quarter. Not sure if these portions translate to ordering individual meals, but this family plan was legit. read more

Our family loves Peruvian chicken. It is a favorite of our whole family. My son was picking up Poyoteca for the two of us. I wasn't feeling well and he was so sweet to bring dinner over. Sorry, I just was not a fan. The chicken tasted spicy to me. I don't know if someone heavy handed the turmeric, but it did not taste good. Now, people who like the spice, may enjoy this chicken. The yucca were very good. They were hot and crispy. We also ordered the rice and beans. They were fine. My son picked up the food and the service was good. It didn't take long for the order to be ready. The ambiance is clean and attractive. My son really enjoyed his meal. I just think that we are lucky enough to be in an area with lots of Peruvian chicken restaurants. This one was not a favorite of mine. read more

I ordered delivery for lunch from these guys a few days ago. Super delicious!! I was hungry, so I got the whole chicken with 3 sides -- thinking that there would be a lot of leftovers and I was NOT disappointed. The chicken was plump and flavorful. For the sides, I got two orders of the brussels sprouts and one order of the black beans. Both were exceptional, but the brussels sprouts were the stars of the show. They came in this balsamic sauce that was a nice blend of sweet and spicy--a fantastic complement to the chicken. The online ordering and delivery were efficient and effective. My partner and I came here one evening last week and ordered the Whole Chicken with Three Sides. We ordered it, ate some at the restaurant and took much home. It's a lot of food. And a better value than if two people come in and each order a half chicken with two small sides. The chicken was moist and juicy, with a nice seasoning. The sides we got - mashed potatoes, green beans and Brussels sprouts - were each a nice sized portion and very good. They were out of Brussels sprouts and made us a fresh batch. Could have used a bit more balsamic, but good. I recall the Cole slaw was good from a previous visit. They have a number of other sides that all look good and I'll have to try in the future. They have a green and white sauce in small containers. Each is pretty spicy, but also flavorful. Really good rotisserie chicken and sides here. Although it was mostly empty when we visited on a weekday evening, the venue and convenient location are appealing. Friendly staff and fair prices, what's not to like. Being first time here, and not knowing the regular portions and size of the chicken, we ordered the whole chicken family meal with 3 sides. It was much more than we could handle. The chicken was good. I think he gave us an extra piece (leftover?) and perhaps that's why we had so much. The Brussels Sprouts was the star of the place - sweet and savory, delicious. 5 stars! The chicken is pretty good, the sides are probably better than the chicken. You can get a chicken and 2 sides for about $30. You can go to giant and get a chicken and 2 sides for $10. Is Poyoteca better, yes. Is Poyoteca $20 better, not even close. They really bother me with the sauce cups. I included pictures of the thimble of sauce they put in the containers. I asked for more and they made me pay extra for 6 more containers. I was able to pour the contents of all 6 containers in to 1 container. This is a complete scam and ripoff. read more

I did not expect to like this place. I've eaten Peruvian Chicken for most of my life so I already have my favorites. Every now and then I get curious and try a different spot - usually it's a bad experience. But not this time! Poyoteca really impressed me. The skin had a slight stickiness to it. It was because it had a unique marinade which had an attractive taste. The white meat was also moist and tender. A lot of places make it dry, but not this place. To top off my experience, my yucca had a nice crunchy snap to it. One of my favorite yucca I've had EVER. Going to try this place again and I hope they keep the same quality. read more

This is the definition of five stars: delicious food, great service, and a fair price. The store is clean and vibrant inside, too. We got the whole chicken meal with chaufa rice, green beans, and fried plantains. The chicken is succulent and flavorful but not spicy, which is great because everyone can eat it and the side sauces (spicy and mild) let everyone pick their spice or extra flavor level. The chaufa rice pops with fresh ginger and scallions, the fried plantains were cooked perfectly, with great caramelization and some slight crisp but not burnt at all, and the green beans had a wonderful smoky, garlicky, oniony flavor. All of that was just $36 after tax, and I'd say we'll get at least four adult meals and two toddler meals out of it. I don't know where else in the entire DMV you can get this combination of flavor, freshness, nutrition, and value. Great work, Poyoteca and all the staff at the Rockville location. Last night, we tried Poyoteca for the first time to celebrate our dog's birthday because chicken is her favorite food. Well, at least that was my excuse to finally order from here. As much as everyone hated on food delivery services, Poyoteca gets bonus points for partnering with GrubHub because it made our lives so much easier yesterday. Everything arrived hot and fresh. We got the family meal with a few other sides, and nothing disappointed. The one salad we ordered wasn't our thing (a lot of small, cubed vegetables in Mayo) but we thoroughly enjoyed everything else. I'm not sure I've ever had bad Peruvian chicken, but the version at Poyoteca is particularly delicious, tender, succulent, perfectly spiced and cooked. The skin has just a hint of crackle and seals in an incredibly juicy interior. The yellow and green sauces become almost an afterthought with a bird this good, though when added, they somehow improve upon perfection, which seems logically impossible and yet it is so. The sides I've tried are all solid, and the chaufa and Brussels and carrots (the latter of which is in a soy-like salty/sweet sauce) are my favorites. Anyway, this was pretty good. Definitely had me full for the rest of the day. This comes with white rice, black beans, shredded Monterrey jack and cheddar cheese, ahi Amarillo sour cream, roasted corn, red and green peppers,tomato, avocado, cilantro in a flour tortilla. Served with your choice of side. Pollo Saltado Bowl: stir fry chicken that comes with rice, red and green onions, cilantro, and steak fries Side: Large Yuca: can never go with Yuca. The right amount of crisp and softness! Mac & Cheese: this was good but the noodles were way too soft to where it dissolved in your mouth. So I have ordered a total of 10 family meals over the course of their grand opening so I can give a decent review! They had a 50% off everything one week, followed by the same deal for healthcare workers. The prices are already decent, so this was a steal. The chicken was 95% of the time the juiciest chicken in the area. The one chicken I got must have sat for a while and was sort of dry. I'm the biggest fan of Sardis. Tbh crispy and juicy and some of the others I've tried on Uber eats have been big let downs. Early stages of Poyoteca remind me of early Sardis. The only have a green and yellow sauce, and there were only a few pieces of tres leches available. The Mac and cheese was a large hit and I would wait for a new batch. Yucca and all the other sides were on point. The coleslaw was actually good, sweet and creamy. The ensalada ruso was a standout though. A beat salad that complements the chicken wonderfully! My Lithuanian wife thought it was great! Of all the meals, I don't have great pictures since my family went to town as soon as I brought it home. It's been a while since I've been to Fallsgrove and Poyoteca was a lovely place to discover when I was rushing to FedEx something. It smelled great so picked up food for my family. Got a Whole Chicken, Quarter Chicken, Lomo Saltado Bowl, and a bunch of sides. The chicken was well-seasoned, moist, and delicious! They did a great job with those flavors. Sides were solid, but chicken definitely stole the show. I always love a good Yucca Fry and the Plantains were tasty. The Brussels Sprouts & Carrots were a little too syrupy for my taste and the Aji Mac & Cheese reminded me of Kraft, but was still good! Choclo Sweet Corn was okay, nothing noteworthy but we still ate it all. The Lomo Saltado Bowl was also tasty. Normally wouldn't mix fries with rice (or really fries with anything), but everything in the bowl went together really well, especially the onions. I stopped by to pick up lunch and inadvertently went into Mama Lucia next door. Oops! Interesting that their doors are under Poyoteca's signage and storefront. Upon entering Poyoteca, I was warmly greeted. I had a groupon offer for 1/4 chicken with 2 sides, drink, and a dessert for $11. I selected a 1/4 dark, mac & cheese, plantain, and tres leches. The dark meat here is sizable compared to other Peruvian restaurants I go to. The seasoning was spot on and the chicken was moist. I haven't had plantains in years so decided to give it a try and wanted to choose a healthy side. I decided I am probably not a fan in general. I did like the edges that were crispy. I selected the mac & cheese based on the reviews which said it was good. I thought it was average, nothing set it apart from anywhere else. I thought the tres leches may have been old as the cake itself was a bit dry, but fortunately the milk gave it the moisture and texture it needed. The icing was airy and fluffy which I liked. I ordered 1/4 white meal for my hubby. He selected fries and rice with black beans for his sides. I tasted one of his fries and it was undercooked. I had a 35 minute drive home so am optimistic if we ate it at the restaurant it would have been warmer and tasted better. When I was leaving, another staff member who didn't assist me said have a good day. Great to see a crowd for the grand opening weekend of Poyoteca's second location in Maryland! Located at Fallsgrove along the row with other restaurants. Lined up for their offer of a peek at their food today. Worth the wait! When I got to the front of the line, there was a staff member opening the door and allowing a certain number of guests inside as others were leaving. There were markings on the floor for social distancing. The space looks and feels a bit cavernous. Mostly because there were only a handful of tables seated for dine-in. A lot different than the feel that Cheeburger had at this spot. It's a nice change with the purple and pinks. You go through the line telling them what chicken you want. Then go through the sides before arriving at the cashier. I got 1/4 dark meat with a side of yucca and plantains. Family with me got the sweet potato fries as their side. The chicken was fragrant and juicy. The yucca was crispy. The sweet potato fries sweet. And the plantains were caramelized and sweet. I had hoped to get the tres leches cake tonight (cause although the chicken meal was free this weekend, I always want to actually pay for something too) but they only had the alfajores until they serve their full menu in a few days. Grand opening week and their deal is: 50% off Poyoteca has got lots of vibrant colors going on, with a deep purple and vibrant pink hue running strong through the entire place, menu, and logos. Had to wait 45 min for chicken to finish cooking and then to order food to-go. - App doesn't work - They are currently not taking any phone orders due to their grand opening - No other dishes outside of rotisserie chicken is currently being offered. Chicken was on the tad dry side and not terribly well seasoned. Sides: Fries are fries and yuca is yuca; it is pretty darn hard to go wrong with 2 fries starches. Hubs said mashed potatoes took him back to deployment days (aka gross). The arroz chaufa was tasteless and not a hit with kids or adults in my home. They provide 2 sauces and were not stingy with it: green is hot and yellow is mild; the green sauce tastes like straight up cilantro and jalapeños and nothing else, while yellow sauce tastes like mostly mayo with a dab of aji Amarillo paste. Verdict: I'd say I've had better with the variety of other peruvian chicken places in the DMV and I'll come back and try something else, although I'm not in a hurry to do that. read more

The chicken was a bit tough and I felt like the whole dish was very salty. I was drinking so much water while eating this that I honestly could not finish. This is just my personal preference. At first I was confused where to go or what to order, but the worker helped me through the ordering process. He was so kind and courteous! I am very happy with the customer service and the worker who helped me! I ended up ordering the chicken with sides of yucca, arroz chaufa, and brussel sprouts. Chicken 5/5 - The roast chicken thighs were so moist and tender. The meat just fell off the leg perfectly. It was also not salty or oily which I loved so much. Yucca 100/5 - I absolutely love the yucca here. I've been to many peruvian restaurants but this is probably the best!! The yucca was slightly salted and had such a crisp crunch on the outside but smooth starchy inside texture and an amazing flavor. Brussel Sprouts 5/5 - The brussel sprouts were amazing too! I really enjoyed the flavor, it wasn't salty and it was just perfectly cooked. A bit sweet but my parents absolutely loved it. I'm more of a salty or savory gal but still they tasted amazing! Arroz Chaufa 4/5 - The arroz chaufa was really tasty as well. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. But I'm not the biggest fan of ginger, so if you don't like ginger then beware!! This dish has a lot of ginger aroma and a bit in the taste. But my mother loves ginger so she absolutely ADORED the arroz. I recommend you ask for the jalapeño sauce at the end! We ordered takeout from this restaurant. I got the half-chicken rotisserie chicken meal (Half Chicken) which included choice of two sides: I chose Brussels Sprouts and Carrots, and Green Beans. The chicken was juicy, tender and came with the delicious Peruvian yellow and green sauces. The Brussels Sprouts were great and not overcooked. Same with the green beans, although easier on the salt next time fellas. Portions were very generous. I also ordered a mixed green side salad (which included tomatoes, onions, carrots, romaine lettuce) which was fine. My wife got the Avocado Passion Salad for an entree. Great split from the normal Fast Casual restaurants. Having come here a few times (and gotten basically the same thing both times) I was not let down. The chicken is incredibly moist and has been well seasoned. The Yuca fries are amazing and everyone should get them over steak fries. I've gotten the Brussels sprouts side and they are BOMB. Friends have gotten the mashed potatoes and the Mac and cheese and liked them as well. I'll have to mix it up the next time I come!
