Lots of variety on the platters. We ordered 2. There was some overlap but both had a. Nice assortment of foods. Could have used more sticky rice with the platters. One platter came with one small packet and the other with two. Also, a little too much plastic on the sticky rice for me. I don't like to heat things in plastic due to health concerns and this came out wrapped in plastic and a plastic container to dump it in. We eat ours in a thicker container at home. We also ordered pad see u and pad thai which were both very tasty. One was mild and one medium spiciness. We would have like something in between those two spice levels since mild has too little for us and medium too much. The thai tea bucket was a fun way to order drinks to share. The dirty black thai and longan drinks were both yummy but both had too much ice which we had to scoop out. The place was packed on a Sunday night so we were glad we made a reservation for our group of 9. My Laotian aunt and uncle really liked eating here.

The platters are out of this world! So much fun to share and try so many parts of the menu. The staff took care of us - we love dining in.

I enjoyed Over My Dead Body (fried tilapia) and how it also comes with veggies and a bowl of rice. They also deep fry some of the rice which makes you think there's extra fish fillets in there. The Little Hanoi was interesting. I didn't enjoy it much. The Laotian papaya salad was good, but it was overly salty and saucy. I came on a Friday (a day before the holiday) and they didn't have AC, so it was hot inside. The ambiance is also pretty dimmed and mostly using natural lighting. It is a pretty busy restaurant I'd say for being in the corner/back of the shopping center.

Steak and onions and vegetable dumplings very tough don't order

It was our first time there and we read reviews of what to order. I will have to say if you order the chicken with fried tofu, kapow, it's fish-tofu and awful. We ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and it was burnt tasting. the ribs were fair nothing great. I will say the chicken Penang is excellent and the triangle egg rolls with pork and shrimp are flavorful and a nice size portion. The fried chicken was OK. A little dry .service was good and staff were very nice and the Restaurant has a nice vibe to it, but the food quality was not good. The steak with onions and dumplings look great but the steak tasted like shoe leather. There are too many other restaurants nearby that serve Thai food that are better.

This was my second visit to Eat a Lao. I've also dined at Padaek (both locations) and Thip Khao numerous times, so I have a good point of reference for Lao cuisine in the area. One reason I enjoy Eat a Lao is that it's a much easier commute for us. The service has been consistently good, and the staff pays attention to how you want your dishes prepared. During this visit, I requested a lower spice level so I could better appreciate the flavors, and they accommodated that perfectly. The Nam Khao was decent, but it wasn't my favorite. I wasn't a fan of the size and texture of some of the ingredients, and I personally prefer the version served at their sister restaurant. The standout dish of the meal was the beef drunken noodles. They were packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and something I would order every single time. The crab fried rice had good flavor as well, but the texture was a bit too mushy for my liking. The ribs were another highlight--tender, flavorful, and generously portioned. Unfortunately, the Lao papaya salad was a miss for me. It leaned too heavily on the lime, which overpowered the dish, and it lacked the funky, savory depth that I look for in a great Lao-style papaya salad.

Eat at Lao offers a large menu featuring Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian cuisine. We made a reservation for our Friday night dinner and it's good that we did because the place was packed! I had never tried Laotian food before and was looking forward to it. However, when I discovered that most of the Laotian dishes were pork-based, I skewed more toward the Thai menu. We tried a few menu items to share -- the pad Thai, a spicy larb chicken salad, an appetizer and crème brûlée for dessert. All of the food was food, but the larb chicken salad was most memorable because it was truly spicy!! It was actually too spicy for our enjoyment and we only ate a little of it. It was an adventure!! The interior is really cute and the service was friendly and fairly fast considering how busy they were. If you've never tried Laotian food or want access to a variety of Asian dishes, this is the place to do it because the menu is so diverse.

Hidden in the back of this plaza, Eat A Lao is an unassuming place. Can't say I've ever had Laotian food, so while Eat A Lao serves Viet & also Thai, we came here just to try their Lao stuff. - Crispy Chive Cakes: very nice, not overly "onion-y" in taste with a chewy, almost mochi-like center, but crispy on the outside and a very nice complimentary dipping sauce! - Lao Fried Chicken: this was interesting and the sauce on these wings didn't feel quite as palate-pleasing as other Asian-flavored combos - Lao Udon Noodle Soup: thick, clear chewy noodles. This dish was reminiscent of childhood Teo Chew noodle dishes (aka flavorful and fulfilling) - Sugar Cane Drink: was decent but tasted of they added something else besides just having sugar cane. The place was clean and spacious. Will def come back again!

The owners also run my favorite Thai spot so I had to stop by and try Eat a Lao. The space was nicely lit and had ample seating. Service was quick and friendly. I went with my lao friend and she said some of the Lao food can be a hit or miss. Everything tasted good to me though. Service for Togo orders is great too. I ordered online and was able to pickup in 15 minutes. The bucket of drinks option is pretty nice for larger parties.

Service is quick especially on weekends where it gets pretty busy. Servers are friendly and attentive, explaining the dishes, they routinely stop by to check on you. We ordered som tum(Thai papaya salad), basil pork crisp(moo krob) and don't leaf me alone. Presentation of the dishes was well done and food quite flavorful. Love the fresh crunch of the papaya and the spicy kick of the som tum. The basil pork crisp was not quite crispy and a bit too sweet. The tilapia dish, don't leaf me alone was quite interesting with the different sauces and condiments adding dimension to the dish. Looking forward to trying other dishes next time.

This place never disappoints. My friend and I went to have lunch. We were pleasantly greeted as we walked in, and promptly seated. The dining room was empty since we were the first ones for lunch. I got the Chop Chop Basil with chicken, I requested very spicy. It was absolutely delicious. My friend got Pad Thai Noodles which she loved. By the time we were ready to leave the place was full. It's pleasantly decorated and clean. I look forward to returning to try other items on the menu.

Food was fantastic and flavorful. Definitely recommend eating in over getting delivery. Also come with a big group so you can try more things. This food is better when hot and fresh. Got the ribs, fried fish, pork and the larb salad. There's so many things on the menu I want to try. I'll definitely be back.

I am not as familiar with Laotian cuisine so I was not entirely sure what I was getting into. However, there was a Thai restaurant nearby my house that also served a few Laotian dishes so I was certainly looking forward to my visit to Eat A Lao. I have to say the menu was very overwhelming with so many options and only a few things I was familiar with. To start, the drinks- easy choice I opted for the Sweet tiger Taro! The drink was not too sweet and very aesthetically pleasing. My husband and I ordered the crispy chive cake, LFC , Bermuda Triangle and mussels ahoy for apps. They were all delicious. The fried items were so crispy and light! The mussels were delicate and not overcooked! We also ordered the papaya salad which I do order where ever I go, as this is my favorite and this one did not disappoint. It was light, refreshing, crunchy and tangy all at once! The MVP of this meal was the Kua Kua noodles. This dish is overwhelming when it arrives as it's loaded with the grilled octopus, shrimp, noodles and sides but it is worth every penny!! Everything was cooked perfectly and works so well with each other! The staff were also very friendly, each one checking in on us and all working well together! I highlyyyyyy recommend this spot if you're in the area.

First of all this unassuming location was such a hidden gem, tucked in the little places of business where the famous Duck Donuts, Crispy and Juicy and Sushi house were. Is this very lovely restaurant which you can indulge in Laotian cuisine. My bestie and i ordered a Not so Lao platter which was $46 bucks which was a good deal for 2 people to eat. Comes with sticky rice, and all sorts of meat from beef, chicken, pork belly, pork rinds, sausages, papaya salad and pickled radish and carrot salad. It was really well made. The made it medium spicy which was great since we are both south east asian ladies who loved spice. Oh they did not hold back on that i am telling you. So if you aren't into spicy food, then make sure to ask for the milder version. Because oh my gosh it was spicy but good spicy. Culturally accurate spicy. It was such a good meal. We ate half and took half of it. Because it was plentiful. The servers were nice and accommodating. They always asked if we were okay. Made sure the spice level was acceptable for us. I was also delighted how beautifully decorated the whole inside of the restaurant was. I enjoyed my meal. We were tucked in the very corner. It was nice it was like they knew it was our besties girls night and wanted us to have a little corner to talk and eat well. I enjoyed my meal the entire time and i was pleased with this wonderful new addition to my favorite restaurant i can frequent to. They had plenty of patrons coming in big groups too. I love everything and we will definitely come back for more!

The freshness and spicy/sour flavors really delight the pallet. Plus, the pepper tray provides vinegar and hot sauces to supplement, if needed. The owner not only cares about the quality of the food in this restaurant, but about his customers and the community. I haven't visited for a while, and the staff still remembered my standard order. That attention to detail is something that makes people feel appreciated and want to come back again and again. Kudos to Baan Siam for their success year over year!

Amazing Thai food at this restaurant. Got the green mango Salad, chicken wings, khao soi, and beef…read morecurry. The mango salad was delicious, I could eat that all day. The khao soi had good flavor, and it came with rice. The chicken wings were for my son, he said they were the best wings he's ever had. The beef curry had good flavor, but the beef was a bit overcooked. Service was a little bit of a miss. When the waiter first came, he asked us for our food order. However, we wanted to order drinks first. I was able to order my cocktail, however, the waiter left before anyone else at my table could speak to order a beverage. Food came out very quickly. This is not the type of place where you would want to enjoy drinks and food over a period of time. However, if you are super hungry, your food will definitely get to you quickly. Restaurant was crowded, but not super loud. Overall, I would come back for the food, I just wish that I could have more time to enjoy my restaurant experience.

Bonus points for being directly across from a parking garage, which currently offers the first 90 minutes free! This is a great spot to take friends or on a fun date night. We chose to sit outside on the cute multicolored chairs and loved the view of the park next door. The patterned plates and mason jar-style cups were such a cute touch to make the whole experience feel cozy and homey. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and even the same attention to detail to decor and ambience was applied in there. The service was great -- our server was attentive and helpful, and there was a busser on standby quick to clear empty plates so we always had plenty of table space. We felt checked on the perfect amount throughout the meal, and the appetizer came out before the entrees -- as it should! Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. We realized chopsticks hadn't originally been brought out with our meal, but after asking our server, she brought them over promptly. Overall, the service was prompt and efficient from start to finish. We love going to Thai Chef Rockville and plan on coming back!

My partner and I came back today for a late lunch. The place was not crowded…read more We ordered a Tom Yum soup with two spoons, Drunken Noodles and Pineapple Fried Rice. We've had the Drunken noodles before and they are consistently good. The fried rice, my first time for this dish, was very good. Three large shrimp, chicken, chunks of pineapple and some veggies with a very tasty rice. Yum. One disappointment today that I think is worth mentioning. We routinely get the Tom Yum soup and it is one of my favorite things here. Today, the broth tasted like sriracha sauce. My partner agreed. The manager came over and asked how things were. I told her that I was disappointed in the soup, and asked if they had changed their recipe. I told her that we routinely get this item as a favorite, and that it normally has a complex flavor of spices and this time tastes like simple sriracha. She asked if we wanted a different soup. I told her no, that this is our favorite soup and that we get it every time and it's just disappointing this time. She said it probably had too much chili paste put into it and that she'd talk to the head chef. And that was the end of it. Never heard another word or saw her again. When the check came, the charge for the soup was still on the bill. I'm deducting a point from my 5-point scores in the past because I'm disappointed that the manager acknowledged there was a problem but still charged for the soup.

Have eaten here several times now so I am more than confident in my review!…read more I have picked up once so I was able to see the fun decor of the place and the other times were all delivery so I have not properly sat down for a dinner. FOOD We have ordered a wide range of apps, soup, noodles, curry, and veggie dishes as well as mango sticky rice. The flavors were all on point & delish and you can adjust your spice level, which I like because I am all about the Thai spicy! The only thing I would not suggest is getting the mango sticky rice to go because it ends ups mush, stuck together like its name, lol, but it's just not good like that. Great vibe, fun spot, yummy food! As always peeps, support your local small biz! Cheers!

All things considered, we like Mae Ornnit and will be back…read more Indicative of its popularity, even in the middle of a weekday afternoon, most of the tables were taken. The menu was huge (which actually was three separate menus). We started out with Crispy Wontons, Tom Kha soup and Tom Yum soup. The delicately thin Crispy Wontons were tasty. The Tom Yum soup was very good. The flavor of the spicy Tom Kha soup was also very good. Even if it's traditional to be prepared this way, I didn't like the hard pieces of lemongrass in the soup I had to pick out. I ordered the lunch special pork Phad Thai. With bits of pink-tipped barbecued pork the smoky flavored Phad Thai was good, even if it was served on a plate that was a tad too small. The Gai Tod crispy chicken came with a yellow curry sauce. The perfectly seasoned curry sauce was delicious and the chicken excellent. My Thai Iced Coffee was excellent. The best part of our meal was the mango sticky rice for dessert. The mango was sweet and ripe and the rice with condensed milk was wonderful. We do wish that they hadn't brought out entrees almost immediately after our appetizers. That made for a crowded table.
