    Mac Cheese (1/2 LB)
    Tammy J.C. D.

I really wish we could do half stars, I would give this place a 3.5. It wasn't bad it just wasn't what we expected based on the hype. I got brisket and whole some love the fat, I do not and I sadly got a lot which led me to my overall rating of 3 vs 4. The Mac and cheese was unique, definitely creamy, but a bit too unique for what I expected from a bbq joint. Cornbread was pretty basic. This place is a small pick up joint situated in an industrial area, with a picnic table outside and 2 chairs inside to wait for your order. We ordered on site and waited, it took maybe 15 mins which wasn't bad.

3.22.24 I had read great reviews of this establishment so was excited to give it a try. I came with a friend on a Friday evening. There are a few narrow parking spaces in the front and an unpaved lot to the side. Upon entering, there is a bar to the left, a pickup counter in the center, and dining area to the right. My friend and I sat in the dining area. We found a table and thought a server would come around, but learned that orders are placed at the front. I asked the friendly owner what he recommended. He was helpful in assisting me narrow down my sides. I ordered a combo of 1/2 rack of baby back ribs and baked beans to go for my hubby and 3/4 pulled pork with mac/crabmeat and cornbread for my sides. I also ordered their homemade lemonade. My friend ordered 1/2 rack of baby back ribs and sliced brisket and selected coleslaw and the potato salad for her sides. The food is brought out to your table and came out less than five minutes later. Record speed! The highlight for me was the lemonade, cornbread, and mac & crabmeat. My pulled pork was dry and bland. I added sauce which helped. My friend was not happy with her meal with the exception of the coleslaw. She said the ribs were dry and the brisket was saucy. My hubby said the ribs were dry, but the beans were good. Cups, water, containers, and condiments are self-serve. There are two unisex restrooms. Overall I loved the friendly staff. They came around to clear tables. Sides and lemonade were delicious, however, the barbecue itself was lacking oomph.

    Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw

We've heard so many recommendations posted on Facebook, we made the stop this afternoon to check them out, unfortunately the dining room was closed due to a private event starting a few hours later, but the bar side was open for service. We made it in time luckily. OMG, what a good BBQ sandwich. I reserve my judgements based on the establishments Pulled Pork BBQ and this was DELICIOUS, LEAN, Tender and Tasty!! I asked for added sauce on the side as you neve know but really didn't need much extra than the initial drizzle, the meat was THAT juicy and flavorful. And you get enough coleslaw on the side to put on the sandwich as well as eating with the sandwich. This is also one of the few BBQ establishments I've found with pulled chicken sandwich offered and found the chicken to be very juicy, tender and delicious. I also ordered the cornbread to go so I could try theirs as cornbread is one of my favorite things. I'm very particular and already have a local place that sets the bar pretty high for the best cornbread. Mackie's doesn't pass the benchmark, slightly dry without being overly crumbly, still holds together and it was tasty. Small portion but no corn pieces found in the mix. The place was clean and all staff was VERY friendly, accommodating and answered all our questions. We definitely will be back.

    Pulled Chicken (1/2 LB) $13.95

Thursday 3/28/2024 This a takeout only spot that specializes in bbq. The customer service was solid. I was able to get a free pulled pork sandwich with the yelp check in coupon offer by spending $45 or more. I made a pick up order through DoorDash and got pulled chicken (1/2 pound) $13.95, dry rub wings (9 ct) $14.95, sliced brisket (1/2 pound) $16.95, and the pork & Mac (1/2 pound) $11.95. - pulled chicken * this was very underwhelming and not the worth the price at all. * there's nothing special about it: it's just unseasoned chicken with a drizzle of bbq sauce over it. - dry rub wings * got a total of 9 wings and they were decent * personally, I wish it wasn't only flats and that there was an option for bbq sauce to be added. - sliced brisket * Some pieces were a bit chewy & softer than others but overall it was pretty good. - pork & Mac * it was a bit pricey and it definitely could've benefited with addition of more seasoning so you could get more flavor out of it. * I added some bbq sauce to it and the combination takes the flavor & taste to another level. - pulled pork sandwich * probably my favorite item: it was pretty good and it was free (with yelp check in coupon) * the bbq sauce was very good * luckily I got the item for free because the original $15 price tag is crazy. All in all, this is a decent bbq spot that charges some pretty expensive prices with servings that don't quite add up but it is what it is.

I've been frequenting Mackie's since before COVID-19 struck. It feels like ages ago, the food remains consistently amazing. The ribs have incredible flavor and are perfectly sauced, achieving a delightful balance between the meat and the sauce. I'm curious if it's possible to request different sauce flavors? The chicken salad surpassed my expectations, and the cornbread, while a tad dry, was brought back with some butter, likely how it was meant to be enjoyed. The indoor seating area is wonderful. While I couldn't dine in today, I'm looking forward to staying longer. The ample space and separate full bar area are great. Today, I had the pleasure of chatting with Cam Mackie, learning about post-COVID changes, business plans, and exciting new menu items. I'm eager to come back to try out the new items.

    Ribs and Brisket combo

This was our first visit here. On this visit, they were understaffed, so it took a little long to order. You order at the counter, and food will be brought out to your table. The gentleman was very apologetic regarding the service. Onto the food, we started with 6 bandito jalapeños. It was spicy but good flavors. For Entree, we got the ribs and brisket combo with coleslaw and mac/cheese. The ribs were falling off the bone, and the brisket was very tender. Both were winners. Coleslaw was fine, but I think it may have contained mustard, which I do not like. Mac and cheese - wasn't a fan. However, friends we were with loved the mac and cheese. Our friends loved what they got- combo entree and brisket sandwich. Overall, it was a good experience and enjoyed the food. If I could recommend one thing, it would be a better ordering process.

This is more 3.5 for now. Ordered delivery through the website which gets delivered by DoorDash. This location is carryout and catering at an industrial section off Shady Grove Road. For dine-in, they have locations in Olney and Frederick. Got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad and cornbread. The pork was tender. I like their barbecue sauce. A good mix of tangy, smokey and sweet. Potato salad was good. Cornbread was tasty. Sweet, a little crumbly. Great with a bit of butter. Ordered the Mac and cheese as an extra side dish. It's creamy and peppery. Would've been better if it had more cheese. Would order again but add more cheese to it. Also got the crab dip that is served with toasted bread. It's just OK. Crab meat wasn't as fresh in smell or taste. I think when you're a Maryland restaurant, you really should know how to do crab better. Will have to try other things on the menu. I don't eat beef so I'll have to try the chicken and ribs. Will be sure to update!

We keep a private list of preferred restaurants in our area. These are our 'go to" when not preparing meals at home. Our criteria are: (1) reliably good food' (2) professional, yet friendly service, and; (3) a safe welcoming environment. It is the list we trust to share with family, friends and business contacts in the area when asked "What's a good place to eat?" After lunch today, Mackie's is on our list. In fact it bumped another BBQ restaurant off! Pulled pork, ribs, corn bread, cole slaw and a complimentary baked bean sample - were top notch. Arnold Palmer's with sippy cup lids were a good complement. We found the meat portions generous and took about half home. No room for dessert - sigh. FYI - Claiming to have the "best BBQ" can be a divisive issue. Don/'t take the bait. Our advice is to trust what Mackie's serves. If Mackie's southern style is not your favorite, at least you can be assured you experienced a good one. We really liked condiments, extra napkins, water, take away boxes and extra utensils as self-service available. Easy peasy. Restrooms were clean and one was accessible. It's obvious the Mackie's invested in the facility for the long term. It's updated and clean. Cameron Mackie greeted us at the door and expertly guided us to the best menu selections based on our desires. His advice saved us some $! Noosh Mackie (see photo) checked on us often enough and made us feel at home. Yes, the food was superior, yet it was the Mackie's personal attention that made our experience extra special. A third Mackie, I believe, held the door for me upon entry. We did not talk much, but he certainly made a positive initial impression. Wow! Who else does this? We did not see alcoholic beverages on the menu- that is good for us. Mackie's BBQ is a family friendly place we'll return to and recommend with no reservations. (Pun not intended). Only issue.......... We are not a fan of prepaying meal charges. It's impossible to tip accurately. At other restaurants with this system, we prepay for the meal and then offer cash for tip after. We were not prepared with cash but will be next time. Total price was about $50.

First let me say this place was amazing food wise. I tried them when they were at airpark and did catering. I felt their prices are now more reasonable at the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant it felt a bit disorganized. Let me start with why they lost 1 star. I hope this helps them to improve in the future. Just don't change anything about the menu or food! Went for 1pm lunch experience on a Sunday. There are several entry ways. Bar, restaurant and I think possibly thru the back (not sure). Not sure about the back since I didn't check myself. But I did see folks coming from that direction. Needles to say no hostess in any of the entrances. No directions of how this establishment works. Walked in thru the bar, and no one was working behind the bar. The bar itself was empty but there are several single and family size tables in that room that are severed by the bartender. Of course I learned this after the fact. All tables were full. Since we didn't see anyone at the bar we went into the restaurant. There was a really long line to order and all the tables were full in the restaurant as well. No workers in sight other than the young kid behind the registered. Swamped taking orders from the line. I felt bad for him. They should have two registers. But because there was no one around to give us directions. I also didn't want to stand on a really long line to be turned away. I asked him if we order there? He said yes but there are no tables and there is a bit of a wait. He also told me he is swamped which was obvious and it was reason I hated to bother him. I felt he should have told me to go check in the bar. That there is more seating there. Because I then walked back to the bar area. Which is a different room and not visible from the restaurant portion. I now did see a bartender behind the bar. There was already two people sitting there in about 8-10 stool bar area. I asked the bartender if we could order food there too and she said absolutely. So got off the restaurant line and went to eat at the bar instead. Had someone been available to explain this from the getgo. Would have been smoother. Or the kid taking orders mentioned it too. Would have helped a great deal. Now on to the food. Once we got past the seating difficulties. Ordered the combo of two meats. Got the brisket and pulled pork, with two sides :mac & cheese and beans. Plus a side of the crinkle fries. So when I pulled up to the restaurant as I walked to the front door I smelled fries not BBQ. Which is the reason I made sure I ordered the fries. Also got the Buffalo wings. Everything we got was amazing! It was enough for two and even took leftovers home. The sauces of all the meats were delicious. I want to go back and try the ribs next time. I also asked them if they sell their sauces. I would have really loved to take the Buffalo sauce home. It was so delish! They don't sell it. But took the million dollar sauce. It was in a smaller container than their other bbq sauce with a different name. But the bartender told me they had different names but the sauce was essentially the same thing. That was confusing?! Why name them two different things then? From afar the large container the sauce looked darker than the one I bought. That didn't make sense. I fell the wings give "full on" a run for best wings in Montgomery County. Although full on does fried and these are smoked. Still they were amazing!!! Will be back for many more times to come! Can't wait! I ordered I think it was called a Texas burro which was essentially a Moscow mule by a different name. Not sure why give it a different name? Thanks for the great food experience. Can't wait to go back for more! Parking was packed. Depending on when you go it will be loud I imagine. Because there were lots of kids when I was there. So it is kid friendly. But if you get annoyed by parents yelling at their kids for being abnoxious, and kids yelling too, def not your kind of place. If you are looking for a quiet dinner date night kind of place. Happy hour is available.

Pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese, and cole slaw

Hands down best barbecue in the area - quite possibly the best brisket went ever had. I got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw (which I promptly pulled atop the sandwich). Pork was sweet and smoky, but not too smoky, and the coke slaw was perfectly sauced (not too wet or dry). Hubs had 2 meat of pulled pork and brisket with a side of crinkle fries (and he let me try a little of everything). I have had a lot of brisket in my day, but this might be the best I've ever had. It was juicy, flavorful, and not too much fat. The fries were also some of the best...(crinkles are my favorite!).

I had been craving BBQ for a few weeks and convinced my husband to try out Mackie's. They recently opened this location, so I was excited to check it out. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and given information about their opening, along with what their popular items were, and what items they were out of. There are two entrances....one takes you to the bar room, where they have a bar, small tables, and T.Vs.; perfect spot to have a beer, BBQ, and watch football. Hubs and I went inside and decided to sit in the dining area. They had plenty of tables available when we went, which was Sunday afternoon. I was bummed that they ran out of fries, but I knew exactly what I wanted.....a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. Hubs opted for the ribs with mac n cheese and corn bread. Food didn't take long and came out nice and hot. The sandwich tasted great, but I personally prefer a bit more BBQ sauce on mine. I could've asked for some on the side. The coleslaw was perfect. My husband enjoyed the ribs, but I think they were a bit too fatty for his liking. Other than that, the sauce was good, and meat fell right off the bone. The mac-n-cheese was cheesy and good, but needed a bit more salt. The cornbread was good too. Service was great. We were checked on a few times and asked about their food and feedback. Overall, good local BBQ spot that we plan to visit again. Must try for those in the area!

The entrees were very good. The salmon had a nice char, but was moist and flavorful. If you like salmon with a sauce, you'll be disappointed. I like mine simple, and this is a well-prepared salmon. The shrimp (3 large) were good. The spinach had a nice garlic flavor and the asparagus was well prepared - not mushy. The chicken Marsala also was good. The Marsala was light (not thick) and somewhat sweet. Very good. Honestly, the bread service was pretty disappointing. Our last visit the bread was fine, but this basket was pretty dried out and almost seemed stale. The oil accompanying the bread had almost no cheese in it. Essentially, you dipped tasteless bread into oil. Really disappointing. I'm not going to reduce my overall restaurant score for this one thing (because the entrees were very good), but the bread service was not good. The service was good.

Unfortunately, the dinner Combo noted at the top of the menu as an add-on was not available so we didn't get to taste the wider variety of foods we had hoped. Not sure why that was not available. It doesn't appear to be a lunch only option by the text on the menu. We ordered the Minerva Lamb Special, and the Chattinad Salmon Curry initially. A bit later we added the Paneer Masala Dosa. The food did not disappoint! The lamb was tender and the sauce flavors were not overwhelming but the perfect complement. I normally don't consider salmon to be a good curry protein but this dish was delish! The salmon was not overcooked and it didn't disappear in the sauce. Three cheers for daughter's choice! The dosa was huge with a scoop of paneer curry in the middle. We enjoyed breaking off crisp pieces to dip in the accompanying chutnryb& sandu. We obviously had leftovers and were provided with the perfect containers, including condiment cups for the chutneys and dips, to transport our dinner home for son to enjoy. This place was a bit of a drive for us but I would consider a revisit if in the area again.

And I would say that even if I was not using coupon. We started with soups: mulligatawny and Sambar. Both were delicious. Then we shared an appetizer of Ginger Shrimp. The shrimp were lightly fried and coated with a delicious coating. Not "overly" gingered for me. The appetizer came with two sauces (one spicy and one sweeter) that were good, but I didn't think were needed because the shrimp were good on their own. For entrees, we got the Palak Paneer (mild) and Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spice). Again, both were delicious. The rice accompanying the entrees was well prepared. We ordered a Garlic Naan that was deliciously garlicky. The soups and appetizer mostly filled us up, so we took the entrees home and had them for lunch the next day. Everything microwaved well (including the rice) and the leftovers were outstanding. Service is overall good. So now I can recommend both for lunch buffet and for dinner.

The 1800 margarita. Ive gotta explain how to make a margarita. It's shaken, not stirred and salt the rim. I learned from last time. As soon as I day down I was ready to order. But no chips and salsa. Had to ask 3 times. No water. Had to ask twice. And honestly would've ordered dessert but the server never came around again. They still get 20% auto gratuity which is crazy. No way would I be tipping 20% for this service.

They have a nice private back room for private events or their comedy shows. The main restaurant has a nice bar area and TV's for football or whatever sport. I always got the same thing, the enchiladas. Food is solid. Prices are reasonable here, which was a nice change in the 2020's. What I realized in 2024 was the enchiladas and plates are kind of on the smaller side. When I think of sit-down Mexican restaurants, I think of hearty meals, but this wasn't so hearty. I was hungry several hours later that night in 2024. In January 2025, I was here for a friend's birthday party and remembered that the portions are smaller than typical Mexican restaurants, so I added a bean pupusa to my enchilada plate, which was excellent, even better than the enchiladas, which are solid. It was a little chaotic with the number of people there, and the awkward table setup. It would've been better having that backroom, but there was a comedy show or something happening that night in there, so we made do with the long high tables put together in the middle of the restaurant. Service has always been good here overall in terms of friendliness, but a couple of times when things ran a bit slow. Also, beer pitchers were cheap too. I remember the couple of events where people split including at the January 2025, my friend's brother & his wife split beer with me. Overall, it's a good local business in the area. In spite of a few flaws, mostly good & would return again in the future.
