My fiancee and I had an appointment on the day of our wedding on April 8, 2023. We booked in November of 2022. The morning of our appointment, the appointment time came and went. We called a few times, then Teri finally answered 45 minutes after our scheduled time, in a panic that her relative was in the hospital the night before and forgot to tell us that she was canceling and forgot to find a replacement, a requirement by the contract. She and the rest of her staff were 2 hours away. Teri has my condolences regarding her relative being in the hospital, but we were given no chance to even think of a replacement. My fiancee was sobbing for an hour as I tried to comfort her in my tuxedo. It was a painful experience, and by the grace of our wedding planner, we got another hair and make-up artist. As of now, Monday April 10th, we have confirmation from the wedding contract app HoneyBook that a refund was processed, but no indication that an inconvenience fee was also going to be sent to us, which she agreed to. We had to find the new make up artist and pay extra to our other vendors to accommodate the disaster. The 1 star here is simply to offer our support for Teri's relative. The pre-event lack of communication, morning-of lack of communication, and after-math lack of communication was just awful, and no amount of "vendor follow-up" on this review will replace seeing my fiancee ready for our big day and crying for an hour with a house full of friends and family. My mother died when I was 19. I get it. It's scary. All Teri had to do was make a couple phone calls to save a 5 month old contract. ONLY because our wedding planner was a super hero did we manage to get a make-up/hair artist and make it to our ceremony on time. That is WAY too much chance on the day of our wedding. Epic failure by Charismatic Bride. We aren't blaming anyone for Teri's family emergency, but here we are, still staring at the phone and email, no reply. We still managed to pull it together and have a great wedding day, but with unnecessary scratches and bruises. Unbelievable. After comparing several vendors online, I went with Teri because she was seemed to understand exactly what I envisioned for my wedding and she was well-versed in retro makeup and hair. I first met her when my mom and I went for my makeup trial. Teri was fantastic! She was such a good listener and did an amazing job translating what I described to her into a reality. She gave me tips on makeup and helped me understand what would work best on my big day. Between hiring Teri and the wedding she was communicative, responsive, and great at reminding me of details. She sent a detailed description with what she needed from myself and the bridal party to make the day go smoothly and she was flexible with communication style (texting, email, calls, etc.). On the day of the wedding, Teri was punctual and ready for anything. She brought a team consisting of two other great artists to help get my entourage ready and the team worked really well together. Teri never lost track of time, she was articulate and in-charge of her entire operation. She was kind and understanding of me (I was nervous and hungry). As for the work she did, it was amazing! My hair and makeup were stunning and I couldn't believe how they lasted the entire night! I think I had my makeup done at around 11am and the party ended at midnight. My makeup was still perfect at midnight! She did give me a touch-up kit, which I kept in my clutch the entire evening and used to fix makeup before any formal photos. The bridal party also looked amazing. I requested retro hairstyles (we had a couple of victory rolls and some pin curls and even a chignon knot!). I would 100% recommend Terri to anyone planning their wedding or special event! I found Teri via The Knot and after a few conversations back and forth, and some deep dives on her Instagram to check out her work, I knew she was the artist I wanted to book for my wedding. I cannot rave about Teri enough. She was so accommodating and flexible, especially when I added in two junior bridesmaids and had to adjust our contract. DO NOT hire. Teri cancelled on me THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING after I had already paid her in full months in advance. She didn't show up or answer her phone until 45 minutes after she was supposed to arrive. She said she had a family emergency the night before - but said she just completely forgot to notify me or reach out to any of her staff who at that point were too far away to fill in on such short notice. She said she would refund me - I have yet to receive those funds. I asked for an inconvenience fee and she said she would consider it but couldn't think of an amount, asked me trust her to send it eventually and hung up on me. She absolutely ruined the day we had spent so much time and money planning and I have yet to get a refund or any compensation for all the extra costs and inconvenience for me. I can certainly understand having a personal emergency but I still think there is no excuse for not notifying me or attempting to find a replacement. I'm a very particular person when it comes to makeup...especially for the wedding day as a bride. I like my makeup done with a specific look that goes with my (Asian) eyes. I don't have huge double eye lids and big bold eyes for make up to be easily applied with a great finish. So I had to tell Teri exactly what I wanted and during the trial, it took some feedback and trials to get exactly what I wanted...as what a trial is for. She achieved the makeup to what I wanted and I felt so relieved and happy because during the process of finding vendors for different things, this was the hardest. I was so happy I was recommended to Teri (one of my gfs found her for her wedding). Hair was a good experience as well. During the trial I got to see an up do and down (those were my 2 style options I chose). They both looked really pretty. And like my makeup, I'm particular about my hair. My hair type is fine and not much volume. I grew out my hair for a year for this so it was good that I had length for Teri to work with. Turned out great and I chose the up do route. On the wedding date, she did 4 of my BMs hair and my mothers makeup. The BMs wanted slight changes to their hair and Teri was so accommodating to give small tweeks to how they wanted. My mom's makeup looked so good! I was a little worried about this bc my mom's skin is sensitive to makeup products and also she likes a particular look to go with her face and style. Teri nailed it. I recommend if you mom needs make done, Teri can do it. So she's super versatile, hair, makeup, young, older, whoever! My makeup day of...just what I wanted. There was tiny comments added from after the trial and she did it. Make was just what I wanted and hair was perfect. The only problem I had was that my right eye kept watering. I think it might have been because the lashes were too long...but I didn't feel that way. It was all comfortable. I'm not sure why but it wasn't Teri's fault. My eye had a mind of it's own. Because it kept watering up, the makeup was erasing. So she had to apply about 3 times. It was challenging. But Teri worked with it and helped...and the show must go on! I was so happy with Teri. Not only for being an awesome makeup and hair artist, which by the way, is a huge advantage (Usually you'd have to hire two separate people, but she does both..SO convenient), but she is sympathetic and understands brides. I felt very comfortable talking to her. She's professional and super approachable and has a warm caring heart. She's honest and down to earth. All in all, I recommend Teri for Hair & Makeup for your special occasion. I'm such a particular and specific person and Teri nailed it. Price was very reasonable too. As I mentioned she does both hair & makeup, so for doing both and being good at it, the prices were fair. Also to top it off, she gave me an emergency kit with bobby pins, blotting paper, lip gloss and a couple other very useful things! It was so special and I was so thankful and wow'ed. The package I purchased included a trial with Teri where we could try out different looks to decide what I liked for my wedding. Huge kudos and thanks to Teri for making me look the best I ever have, and ever will, on my wedding day! She did both hair and makeup for me, my mom, and my maid of honor, and everyone looked JUST STUNNING - and the look kept all day long. We did a trial a few weeks prior, and I had a couple of ideas in mind. We looked at a few pictures, and Teri created a spot-on look that was exactly what I had in mind - half up, half down, and lots of curls. We thought about it awhile, and she tweaked it a bit and made it even better - a bit looser, softer. The most amazing part was that my hair NEVER holds a curl, and on my trial day, after setting my hair at 9am, by 8:30 that evening my hair was STILL amazingly curly - she had even pulled it down so I could go on with my errands without looking too styled. Makeup was incredible too - I've never been airbrushed before, but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. It corrects anything to flawlessness, she even goes down to the decolletage for a completely seamless look. I wear very subtle makeup and wanted a similar look for my wedding - nothing bold, just enhanced - and she nailed that as well, and it lasted all through the wedding. I've never tried eyelashes before, but Teri was saying they're practically mandatory and showed us how they open up the eyes, so I gave it a shot, and absolutely loved it. I went with a modest size, so it wasn't obvious, just enhanced. They didn't feel weird at all, I forgot I had them after the first few minutes, and they came off easily with just a little water. Most importantly - I am a bit of a weeper, shall we say, and this makeup held up perfectly all day!!!! Teri showed us how to cry properly so that we don't smudge anything, and it worked like a charm. As much as I loved my hair and makeup, what she did for my mom was even more incredible - mom was skeptical and a little wary about the makeup and certainly about the eyelashes but she looked AMAZING, not overdone but definitely fabulous, and was super happy with what Teri did. I will keep saying that the best advice I would give to other brides is to do your research, hire great people and then stand back and let them do their job. Teri was awesome and I would recommend her to anyone!! Her prices are pretty middle of the road as far as wedding day prices go - about 65 to 70 percent on the scale from low to high, but it's absolutely worth every penny!!! I've rarely had my makeup done to my liking from a makeup artist. When I went to meet Teri for my trial, I brought pictures of the look I wanted with me and she mirrored those looks and elevated them even further. She made suggestions that I hadn't thought of and the end result was breath-taking. On the day of my wedding, Teri came to my house to do my hair and makeup. To our suprise, the power went out in our area for a solid 4-5 hours preventing me from getting ready in conventional ways (no power outlet to curl my hair or proper lighting, etc). I was beyond stressed but Teri just rolled with it and stayed calm and confident which truly kept me relaxed. We were able to use a generator for electricity and continue to get ready at the house which again, Teri just rolled with. We were rushed for time due to much of these hurdles but Teri not only finished on time still, the end result of my hair and makeup was simply FLAWLESS. Teri did my hair and makeup for my wedding in the summer of 2016. I sought her out after having a terrible trial at a local salon. Teri listened to what I wanted, was willing to try adjustments to get exactly the look I wanted, and made me feel and look both beautiful and natural. She used both air brush foundation and regular foundation, and the make-up truly stayed on and in-place all night. This rarely happens for me because of my oily skin. The make-up looked good both close-up and from a distance. Furthermore, I felt like I got an excellent value. She charges a reasonable price for an excellent product, in contrast to many other artists I considered, who charged and arm and and leg and had spotty portfolios. Even though my wedding was in the East Bay, it was well-worth it to hire Teri, who traveled from San Jose. She also did an excellent job on my bridesmaids (6 services). Thinking back though, because she doesn't work with an assistant until more services are required, I think I would have hired an additional person to do the bridesmaids or asked Teri how much more it would cost to bring an assistant because the overall length of time it took meant that we had to wake up extremely early. The only thing that could have been improved is that she arrived a little late, so I was worried we wouldn't all be ready on time. She used airbrush makeup and it lasted all night. I had to be ready by 1:45 and the reception wasn't over until 12:30. My makeup was still beautiful even after a few drinks, tears, eating and kisses. Teri is Fabulous! She is a rare find as Teri excels in both bridal hair and bridal makeup. She made me feel the most beautiful I have ever felt in my life and it was on the most amazing day of my life! I thank Teri for being my place of calm once I found her. As it was a horrible process for me to find a descent even average bridal makeup and hair artist. Teri will surely exceed your expectations and will make the process leading up to your wedding day and day of so easy and pleasant. Teri was amazing and so easy to work with prior to my wedding and more importantly on my wedding day! I booked her about 7 months prior to my wedding in September 2013 and scheduled a trial for my mom, sister, and myself. Booking the trial (for myself only) was also my deposit for the wedding day with no obligations if I did not feel it was the right fit after the trial. Believe me, after you work with her on the trial you won't want to find another make-up/hair specialist. She put together two make-up looks and two hairstyles for my sister and I that were gorgeous and difficult to choose between. My mom scheduled a hair trial that went just was well. Teri is fantastic with time management without feeling rushed or stressed out on your wedding day! She is always on time, very professional, and will communicate with you with no delays prior to your wedding day. On the day of my wedding she did hair for my mom, sister, and I. She also did make-up for all 4 bridesmaids and myself. Her assistant that came in to do the hair for the other bridesmaids was fantastic as well. Everyone looked absolutely beautiful. My family, friends, and I are very simple and prefer the more "natural look" when it comes to make-up. She was able to accomplish a beautiful natural look for everyone, yet the make-up showed up great in the photos. The hair and make-up held up all day and night for all 7 of us. Teri and Katye did the hair and makeup for me, my bridesmaids, mom and MIL for my wedding July 2014. Before picking Teri and Charismatic Bride, I looked at lots of pictures, prices and reviews for different hair/makeup artists in the area. I loved that brides who used Charismatic Bride looked perfectly made up! Some other artists either used too much or not enough makeup, but I felt that Teri's work was a perfect balance. At my hair/makeup trial I brought in a lot of pictures from Pinterest and we were able to trial a few different looks. Teri asked me questions about my usual routine and how I want to look on my wedding day. She sent me pictures from the trial, which really helped me decide what was the best look on my wedding day. On my wedding day Teri and Katye arrived at hotel right on time to get started! They quickly worked through each bridesmaid's hair and makeup. A few of my bridesmaids were a bit particular and Teri and Katye did a great job helping make them happy. I wanted to make a few minor tweaks from my trial (define my curls a little more, less lower lash liner etc) and Teri made my hair/makeup look perfect!!! Teri was the makeup artist and hair stylist for my twin sister and older sister. Her work is absolutely beautiful and I knew exactly who I wanted to do my makeup for my wedding. Teri was professional and easy to work with. She did a makeup and hair trial and made adjustments based on my feedback for the day of the wedding. On the wedding day, she brought an assistant who was great too! I felt pampered and knew I was in good hands, so I could relax and enjoy. I felt beautiful and the photos turned out great too. One of the best decisions I made throughout the wedding planning process was booking Teri. She is an awesome person and is so skilled in her work. She did my hair and makeup as well as my bridesmaids and mother's hair for my wedding day. She was very thorough during my trial with her and was willing to do multiple looks for me so we know exactly what would make me happy the day of. I cannot express how much I enjoyed working with Teri!! She is beyond talented, and made me feel like the most beautiful bride on my big day. She traveled with her assistant Katye to Napa Valley where my wedding was located. Both Teri and Katye did an absolutely amazing job on all of the ladies that day. One woman looked more beautiful than the next! They were able to create every look for hair and makeup that my friends and family asked for. During my trial back in June, Teri and I worked together to create the exact look I wanted. We started off with a more natural look so I could see how I liked it, and then added more makeup for a dramatic look. Teri saved the look for hair and makeup that I fell in love with at the trial; and was able to duplicate it EXACTLY for my wedding day. Her professionalism throughout my entire wedding planning experience was incredible. She was always very prompt in getting back to me with any silly questions/concerns I had. Teri did my makeup for a special event and I have to say that she did a fabulous job. She listened to the look that i wanted and executed from it. I am the type of person that doesn't normally wear too much makeup and she was able to give me the natural look, but enough to glam me up for the night. My daughter's wedding was on Saturday 9/14/13. Teri and her assistant Kayte traveled to the east bay to do makeup for my daughter the bride, her six bridesmaids and me (MOB). They showed up on time, took an amazing amount of time with each of us and I can truly say made everyone look absolutely amazing with makeup that lasted all day and all night. The wedding started at 4:00 p.m. but we started makeup at 8:45 a.m. They kept to their schedule and we were ready for photos when we were supposed to be and where we were supposed to be. They were consummate professionals. I couldn't believe the transformation on every member of the bridal party. I can't recommend them highly enough. I would definitely use Charismatic Bride again for any special occasion. I wish I could just have them live at my house and make me look amazing every day!
