Dare I say it?? My quest for the perfect haircut has finally ended! I just saw Casey at Charles David Salon a few Saturdays ago. She is PHENOMENAL. She is unfailingly patient, kind, super personable, fun (without even a hint of fakeness or arrogance, that in my unfortunate experiences with people in the beauty industry is all too common!) and, most importantly, TALENTED!! I received the best haircut I'm sure I've ever had, and hands down the Best. Blowout. Ever. Curly girls, meet your dream stylist! I really can't say enough glowing things about Casey, and I can't wait to ask her to do my color. I love that she's so beyond talented, yet she actually listens to what you want and your ideas, and you immediately feel that you can really trust her to give you a fabulous cut, and the icing on the cake... she's also a lovely person. Wish I could give her a zillion stars!! (The salon itself is fabulous, too... all of the staff are very warm and personable. I am loyal to Rachel at Charles David in Hanover for my highlights and haircuts. She is hands-down the best and most professional stylist I've ever been to. I used to work in Back Bay and have frequented many of the high end Newbury Street Salons. I always leave the salon feeling like a new woman and I'm very particular about my blonde highlights, so that says a lot! The prices are reasonable and it's not too hard to get an appointment. Rachel is also ALWAYS on time which I really appreciate as a busy mom. The atmosphere at Charles David feels like it is getting a little dated compared to other places..... but they do use the latest products and techniques so I can easily look past it. I went here for spa week recently, and I have mixed feelings... The treatment I booked was a bamboo massage for $50. I booked with a friend and our appointments were back-to-back. We were told when booking that when one of us was getting a massage, the other one could use the spa facilities, and vice versa. We figured that was great! It was understandably a busy day, so it was a bit of a cluster getting to the right place in the huge building. Overall, everyone was nice about it. We were given lockers and shown the spa facilities. So far, so good. I went first in the massage. Now, I had no idea what I was walking into but it was not something i'd book again. The 'normal' massage part was good, but the bamboo just plain HURT as it was rolled down my back. Not relaxing and minimally therapeutic. The worst, however, is that there was no relaxing spa experience, because there was so much noise in the hallway outside the treatment room door. People yelling, screaming, kids... the technician apologized but even after she asked people to be quiet, it never became the serene experience that I hope for in a massage. At the end of my massage (when my friend was getting ready to come in), I was told I could only use the spa facilities if the NEXT person waiting wasn't using them. Not what I had been told before. I used the steam/sauna for about 10 minutes before feeling guilty that I wasn't 'supposed' to be there so I left. The best surprise of the day was the blow-out at the end. It was great to have my hair washed & styled after treatments. Overall, it was worth the money I spent, even after tipping. However, if I did this again I would book a different type of massage for sure. read more

I've been a client for over 15 years and have always had a great experience. Over the years I have seen many stylists, typically do to my schedule changes and have always had the same experience. The girls are all very professional and knowledgeable and pay close attention to details. From the warm greeting you receive at the front desk from Lou or one of the other girls to the assistant and your stylist the experience is the same. They truly work as a team! My current stylist is Amanda Dauphnee I'd give her 5 stars as well!! She is super personable and does a great job. I started coming to Charles David a few years ago when I was unhappy with my color and needed a change from a strawberry blonde to a lighter blonde. Nichole did a fantastic job and gave me the look I wanted. I recently moved out of state but continue to make appointments with Nichole on visits home to keep up with my cut and color. I am constantly complimented on my color!! She also has given me tips and recommendations on products to use to help keep my hair healthy. Seems funny to be writing this review after so much time has passed but it wouldn't be fair to just it go. I was asking for recommendations from everyone and someone suggested Charles David and I decided to try for a straightening. Im certainly glad I did. That was last September, 2020, and It's just now starting to need another and I am in Florida. The place is beautiful, the stylist who did the procedure was so knowledgeable and personable. I believe her name is Caitlyn.She took the time to discuss my hair, what type of straightening I could get. it was just so more than what I expected.It was a bit pricey but worth every cent. I've had my relationship with Charles David Salon for about 8 years now. It started when I needed to find someone to correct overly processed highlights that I received elsewhere and a couple of my mom's co-workers recommended Charles David. I've been hooked ever since! I saw Amanda to correct my highlights and immediately she understood what I was looking for and corrected my hair with ease. I've been a loyal customer since and she is the only person that I 100% trust with my hair!!! We're always on the same page for cut and color and we've been around the block from short to long, light to dark with my hair. I used a friend of my friend at another salon while Amanda was on maternity leave a few years ago but I should've used Amanda's recommendation at the salon b/c the cuts were just not as good!! I will be having Amanda do my hair FOREVER!! I've also seen Patricia for a couple perms to give my hair some curl and body over the last year and she's great as well. Her and Amanda discussed what they thought would be best and seamlessly managed my hair care experience! I started seeing Jessica for my facials and waxing over the last 2 yrs or so. She is amazing! Taught me how to stop my eyebrows from breaking out after waxing and has given me tons of great skin care and makeup tips! The desk staff is always amazing! Most of them know me by name (does that mean I go there too much?!) and always friendly and welcoming! They are patient with appointment booking and great at coordinating services as best they can! I cannot say enough about my positive experiences with Charles David. I have seen Melissa L. for my color for nearly 10 years and I am just as happy today as when I first started seeing her. I came to her with over-pocessed, at-home color and it was pretty bad! I was in my early 20s, what can I say? Luckily she transformed my color in no time and I have remained a loyal fan ever since. Melissa specializes in color so I see Brianne or Caitlyn for my cuts and they are equally fabulous. I have seen Emma as well for cuts and highly recommend her. For blow-outs, I either see one of the three of them, or whomever is available. When I first moved to the area I had a tough time finding a good stylist. I gave Charles David a try, and things were a bit shaky from the start. The stylist I was first assigned to did a decent job, but I found out later she did not work during most of the times I would need my hair cut. So I was assigned another stylist, who did a decent job cutting my hair (not complicated) and I visited her several times. Before long, however, she had moved on and I was assigned a third stylist. The first time she cut my hair, her hands started shaking and she had to excuse herself very shortly after she began. After sitting in my chair for about 5 minutes, there was a discussion among several staff members nearby. Someone came over to tell me that my stylist had a medical issue, and she would not be able to finish my cut. After being assured she would be alright I asked who would be finishing the cut. After a little more group discussion, they assigned a 20 year-old intern to do the cut. She got right to work with clippers. I told her I preferred scissors and could she use them instead? She insisted clippers would be better. I ignored the fact that she didn't do what I asked, and figured she was probably more comfortable with clippers, so I let her go ahead. As we chatted she mentioned that she was leaving hair styling to go into another profession in a couple months. She did an okay job, and although the stylists charge on the basis of experience, I was charged the full amount as if the more experienced stylist had cut my hair. I haven't returned. Pros - easy to get an appointment, inexpensive, clean Cons - Hectic stressful environment - like getting a haircut in the middle of South Station, no one seems to be in charge, high turnover read more

I stumbled across Charles David in Hanover, and I am just thrilled. My appointment was with Casey, and she was FABULOUS! She gave me just the cut I was looking for, but made it right for me. Amazing stylist, and I came here happily for years! Unfortunately, the management is terrible. They are sticky sweet AS LONG as you are a satisfied customer. After several years with a talented and personable stylist, I had my first unsatisfactory experience. (Nothing horrible; just a cut with not enough taken off, almost as if I had had no cut at all.) When I tried to schedule a re-cut they put me on hold and never came back, took my number saying they'd call me back but never did, etc, etc. After a week and half of this, I finally spoke to a manager who told me she was "sorry," but that too much time had passed and that I'd have to pay full price for a new cut. I went to experience Charles David Salon based off of the reviews I read here. My current salon can't seem to meet my scheduling needs, so I was looking for something with flexible hours, close to home that had a nice reputation. I will start with the not-so-good. Upon calling, I realized that they were also a spa. I was more than thrilled since I frequent many spas monthly for massages, and would love to come to a place that could accommodate both. Unfortunately the massage I received was not your typical massage. It was with a man, (which doesn't bother me- but they only have one massage therapist so you don't really have a choice.) Although the sweedish massage is listed as so, it is far from a relaxing sweedish massage. I was twisted, bent over, legs spread and stretched to the point of extreme uncomfortablness and almost felt violated. I was so uncomfortable I couldn't run out of there fast enough. Mind you- I have had massages on the regular for over 10 years. This was the absolutely only one where I was put in this position. I am not going to go into it any further, as I spoke to one of their managers, expressed my concerns for how that massage was handled, and then continued to have my hair done which I will review below. Just buyer beware- if you don't get massages often, or are a first-time massager, do NOT book a massage here. It will leave you with an unrealistic impression of what you are to expect during a relaxing sweedish massage, and I would hate to have it ruin your opinion of what a massage is supposed to be. Now for the good! Outside of the TERRIBLE experience I had with the spa portion, I could give the rest of the place 100 stars. From walking in, you are greeted in friendly manor. The place is immaculate, and what's neat, is that everyone working there, seems to look like they are genuinely loving what they do! All of the hair stylists look great, look like they take pride in what they do, and I was just blown away with the professionalism. I was shocked that such a huge place, with so many employees could give such a great experience. I had Teresa, again, I was just assigned to whomever was available, and I have absolutely no complaints! She gave me recommendations, (which I love, because I never know what to do...) and was just a pleasant person to work with! I may have found my new hidden gem! In regards to the salon & spa's response to my concern, I felt listened too when I shared my concerns about the spa/massage. One of the women took time out of her day, to sit privately with me to discuss the matter and brought my concerns to one of the owners. Whether anyone cared or not, I appreciated that they took my concerns seriously, or at least made me feel like they were being taken seriously. That shows great professionalism! The only thing that could have made this experience better was if they were able to treat me to another massage from someone else! Since they only have one masseuse, that wasn't an option, and you couldn't pay me to see the one I had again, so unfortunately my search is still on for a local spa that can wow the socks off of me. So after I played hairdresser and attempted (and failed miserably) to color my hair myself I almost cried when the color could be described as "when barbie meets big bird". I immediately called Charles David, because I've heard they're the best in the area. They were able to squeeze me in the next morning with a color specialist. Theresa was so understanding and didn't judge me for my hair mishap... even though the color made her speechless for a moment. I told her she could do whatever she needed , short of shaving all my hair off, to make my hair look like a normal color. She was so patient and sweet... even after 3 glaze treatments and two and a half hours later. All the staff at CharlesDavid are so attentive-- always asking if I wanted something to drink, or a magazine to read. From the front desk to the check-out, everybody was friendly, smiling, and happy to help. My hair, now caramel brown, feels silky and looks natural (thank the good lord). I don't think I can go anywhere else after this wonderful experience, they saved my hair. CharlesDavid is truly the best of the best! read more

I visited Charles and David for the second time last night. My first visit was great, but only a trim as I was "trying it out". I was with Kelly K for my stylist. After my first appointment, they gave me a 'welcome' package that included coupons towards future services. Last night, I went back for a glaze/highlight/cut and used a coupon for a free eyebrow wax. First I met Kerri upstairs for a brow wax, and she was great, thorough and friendly! I should mention that while I waited for my appointment, I was a few minutes early and someone came over to offer me a drink/magazine and checked on my appt. Then, I met Kelly K downstairs for my hair. It's phenomenal. You can tell that the salon keeps up on new methods and is meticulous in detail. For instance, most places highlight partially and wait for the 'last group' to be done before pulling them all out. Kelly was detailed and patient enough to pull out sections as they completed instead of rushing to get them all out and potentially having the last ones not be 'done'. Also, they highlight in a 'rounded' fashion around your head so when you pull into a ponytail you don't have streaks straight backward! Considering I wear no make-up and consider myself a jeans/sneakers girl when not at work, I love that nobody takes themselves too seriously, while still providing a high level of service. read more

Wow!!! I went into Charles David in Plymouth and, was totally impressed. The salon coordinator was so nice and welcoming. Casey is phenomenal. Prior to my visit, I had dry damaged curly hair. I thought I could never restore my naturally curly hair. I was wrong! Casey is extremely attentive and down to earth. She saved my hair!!! I recently had my hair and makeup done here as a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. I loved my hair. Alexia did it it great. She spent a lot of time listening to what I want I wanted and even changed it somewhat part way through when I wasn't liking how it was looking. I liked my half up-do just fine. My makeup was another story. Jessica from Bare Essentials did my makeup. She listened to me talk about my concerns..my eyebrows and eyelashes are very blonde and I wanted her to make them standout but in a subtle way that I'm comfortable with. She put brow powder AND brow mascara on my eyebrows. They were far far too dark. After allowing me to curl my own eyelashes (upon request), she caked on so much mascara that it weighed down my lashes and clumped them together horribly. I liked my foundation but that is it. She listened to the color that I wanted on my eyeshadow, but the eyeliner and eyeshadow application were poorly done. The eyeliner smudged onto my eyelids while I was still in the chair! Needless to say, I went home and applied my own eyeshadow and liner over this poorly done job. I loved the service at Charles David, but I paid $65 for event makeup that was not worth it! read more

I've been seeing Casey since Charles David was located in Norwell. She always does a wonderful job and I am always impressed with the color she does. I go in there and tell her to work her magic and let her do whatever she thinks will look good and I always leave happy. I trust her to know better than me what will look good. I have a lot of hair and my appointments are hours and hours of work for her and she never rushes through. She has even worked after the salon has closed to finish. She does an amazing job with coloring, cutting, and styling my hair. She is a curl expert to for the people who have naturally curly, frizzy hair she's the one to see. Because my hair takes so long to do she is also very attentive to how comfortable I am during the process. She frequently checks to see if I am thirsty, hungry, or in need of a trashy gossip magazine. I am actually worried about posting this glowing review of Charles David & Casey because I'm afraid it will make it more difficult for me to get an appointment once everyone realizes how wonderful it is there! read more

I tried out the salon using a Living Social coupon. I got a pedicure, shellac manicure and spray tan. The spray tan was AMAZING!! Michelle was so sweet and made it fun! As she was spraying it didn't really look like the color was taking. But once she was finished and I saw my tan lines I couldn't believe it! The color was a nice brown, not orange at all. My "tan" lasted about 10 days. It definitely faded on my face first and lasted the longest on my legs. I'm headed in today for my 2nd spray! Kim did my manicure and pedicure. She wasn't very talkative which was fine. She did mention that she was new to shellac and was still experimenting. Well, the manicure that was supposed to last 2 weeks only lasted 4 days. After 4 days it started chipping and bubbling. It has been 11 days now and they are an absolute disaster! read more
