So, on the same day I was told my black Lab had bone cancer, someone hit my SUV (which was parked) and didn't leave a note. What they DID leave was a 6-inch diameter dent poked in my bumper. What a day. Weirdly, when I took my car through a car wash, the bumper dent popped out. Mostly. My insurance company recommended Henry Charles so I took it there. A very on-it, professional guy named Vi ("vee") took a look at it and said he thought he could just touch it up. If I didn't like it, they could always replace the bumper. So he got out his tough up paint (BMW brand paint to match), spent 10 minutes touching up both front and rear bumpers and did it all at no charge. Wouldn't even let me buy him lunch. Thanks Vi! Thanks Henry Charles. Made my day. P.S. I started radiation on my Lab last week and it helped a lot with the pain she was in. Both radiation and chemo really make dogs feel much better--it really has a great effect on them. She is still in pain, but we're going back this week again and I'm hopeful. About six months ago, I went abroad on a trip only to return to witness the horror of my precious sweet Vespa laying damaged on the cold, hard street. As a neighbor would attest, Lolita had been knocked over twice, from each side, by callous cars driven by cruel, oblivious individuals whose names will forever be cursed by the scooter deities. Mirrors twisted, front dented with scrapes on both sides, with both brake handle bulbs broken off -- she was a sore sight for sad eyes. Even the raised storage case was scratched, the b*stards! I dinged up my bf's car... oops! and took it to a few shops to get an estimate to fix it. Vee was super helpful, and explained some options for repairing the scratches. After giving me a fair estimate vs. some other local places, I dropped the car off the following week. At the end of the day, I came to pick up the car. They had polished out a majority of the scratches and used paint to touch up a few areas. While it didn't quite look perfect (which would have required re-painting the entire panels), it was a marked improvement. Vee is da maan!! My sassy rav4 was hit while parked on the street. I was really upset about big dent in the bumper. Based on my insurance agent's recommendation, I called Vee to schedule an appointment for estimate. He asked me to just swing by at my convenience as it was not going to take too long for an estimate. You wouldn't ordinarily find that in other mechanic shop, trust me. So, Vee gave me an estimate on replacing the bumper, but he also suggested he could restructure the dent and my car will look just as good as new(except for the minor scratches caused by the hit impact). Guess for how much - NOTHING; yes you heard it right ABSOLUTELY FREE. That was an INSTANT SAVING OF 1300 DOLLARS. What an honest person!! And not just that, he also kindly offered to keep my car overnight since it was not possible for me come get the car same day after the repair. I was hit on the freeway about 2 months in my BRAND NEW Nissan Rogue. I still had dealership plates on it, so as you could imagine I was very skeptical about quality repairs on a brand new vehicle. Vee and his team stepped up to the plate! While there were some major time delays due to limited access to the parts for such a new vehicle, and the insurance company dragging their feet, Vee did everything they could to get my car back in near new condition. Nissan sent them the wrong model type lettering for the back, and even though I wish they would have caught it from the beginning, after I called, they reordered the correct model and had me in and out in less than 10 minutes. I took my car to another body shop and it was butchered. It was repaired poorly to the point I had to file a claim on them about their work to my insurance company. I eventually took it to Charles Henry and they took care of my car. They explained drew process and what work was going to be done. They also took the time to answer all my questions and I had a lot. I've been here twice and my experiences both times have gone very well. My old car, a Chevy Malibu was broken into near Golden Gate Park back in December of 2007. The thief stole my Sony DEX-7500 head unit, JL audio 10's and my Special Edition Amp. My insurance sent me to Charles Henry to get the back, tiny window fixed - the one they chose to break into my vehicle. Vi was extremely helpful and worked with my schedule to get the repair done. They were able to get my window fixed within a couple days. Most recently, yesterday to be exact, I took my 2009 Acura TSX in for an estimate for damages from an accident the day before. On 4/22 around 1pm, I was driving to meet a co-worker on Clement Street heading northbound on Arguello in the left turn lane, and a mother and daughter of Russian descent struck me head-on in their 02 Volvo S40, while making an illegal left turn over double yellow lines to go southbound on Arguello from Chevron gas station. Robert, the appraiser took photos of the front end damage and was able to provide me and my insurance with a quote within 15 minutes. I highly recommend this place, as they are easy to deal with, and if All-State allows me to pick the shop to fix my car, this will be it. read more

I told Robert Bold, the General Manager who assisted me, that I would repay his gracious and excellent customer service with a 5 star Yelp review. Well, here it is! Our 2010 Prius was hit from behind in stop and go traffic...from a winery tour bus! Although there was no visible damage to the rear bumper or around it, we figured we should just get the car checked out to make sure. The Toyota dealership on Van Ness, as well as our insurance company, both suggested Charles Henry. Within minutes of submitting my information online, they called me and I was able to set up an appointment right away for a Friday afternoon. I stopped by and discussed the situation with Robert. He said they would need the car for a couple of hours to check it out. Knowing that I had a high deductible to meet, Robert offered to do the full inspection for a very minimal fee, very fair, considering they would take apart the whole back, check the suspension, shock absorbers, etc. He was able to get me in that Monday, and as promised, the car was inspected and fully checked, within 2 hours. Robert called me and told me the good news, that the car did not suffer any damage. Furthermore, he waived the fee! He said that I could just 'pay it forward' by referring friends to Charles Henry if they ever need a body shop. I suffer from a rather unfortunate attachment to my MINI (not good to have any sort of major affinity for your car in the city). So when this pole clobbered my rear bumper I was pretty upset (pole was entirely at fault of course). The dent was pretty minor, but enough to make me want it fixed (I felt like I had cheated on a boyfriend and had to smooth everything over). Charles Henry gave me an estimate right then and were able to squeeze me in quickly after that. They also squared everything away with my insurance very nicely and did the work within the original estimate. Now the car looks PERFECT. You would never know what a terrible driver I am. Used them twice about a decade apart. First time my Honda Prelude was broken into and the radio stolen. They did a great job fixing the paint and dent on the door and fixing the dash. They also installed a blinking red light on my dash that looks like a car alarm - just $25 for the fake car alarm. Great deal. My car was never broken into again. Second time - my Prius was hit by a driver who ran a stop sign. Mangled front end. Charles Henry made it like new. Could not be happier. Highly recommended! read more

Recently, I had the unfortunate experience of walking outside to see the front end of my car smashed while it was parked. I was so overwhelmed and did not want to go through the hassle of trying to get it fixed. I was recommended to use Charles Henry Company by a friend and I am extremely satisfied with both the work done to my Jetta as well as the customer service that I received from start to finish. The whole staff was very helpful and made the drop off and pick up process easy. Brian was extremely polite and great with returning my calls when I checked the progress of my front bumper repairs. When I came to pick up the car I was in a bit of a rush, but my car was backed ready to go making it easy to finish up that paper work and get back to life with my fixed car! I've been here once, and will NEVER come back or ever recommend. I waited too long to write this review. Several years ago, my 2001 Corolla got side-swiped and I had to get the front passenger side door replaced. Insurance says it wasn't my fault and suggested I come here based on the other guy (who hit me). They had USAA and I had Farmers. As a girl, I always HATED coming to body shops and auto care places because guys will always try to rip me off since I know nothing about cars and all that other stuff. And THIS is what they pretty much did. I was in my very early 20s, so they automatically treated me like crap because I looked really young. Uh... I'm giving you my business and you don't have the decency to treat me like a good customer? I've worked in customer service for years, so I KNOW how people should be treated when they give you business--no matter how young/old someone is. Throughout the whole repair time, they hardly gave me updates and was very INATTENTIVE to my needs. They made it seem like I was a bother when I called. Worst of all, when I got my car back, the door wasn't even functioning properly!!!!! The door handle wouldn't give unless you pull it extremely hard to open the door. Hm... I thought auto body shops are supposed to fix cars? Soooo... I brought my Corolla back in a week later (they said they stand by their "warranty" and that I should come back in). They "inspected" it and all they said was the door needs to "adjust" to the car. WTF? Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I have auto-locks on my car and this door lock was the only one that kept getting stuck after the "repair" (I had to keep manually locking and unlocking that door for a while). After that so-called inspection, all the guys who work there just looked at me, assuming I'm very clueless and that I don't know what I'm talking about. I drove my car for years so I have to know what's wrong with it. Who fixes a car making it worse? I'd rather have my old messed up ugly-looking door that was still performing adequately than this "new" metal piece of crap that I can't even use/label as a door. I left very frustrated with the staff and the lack of customer care. Several years later (not days, not months, but YEARS later)... my car door that was supposedly "fixed" is STILL NOT functioning properly and no one can fix it. I REGRET BRINGING MY CAR HERE. How do you not believe your customer? It's not like I wanted to get into an accident and have something replaced! I WILL AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. If you want decent work on your car, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Apparently, they don't give a crap about how their work is and all they want is work coming in and out as fast as they can--they simply just don't care about their customers as stated by other reviewers. Long overdue review. I cannot say enough great things about Charles Henry, all of the staff are wonderful, but David in particular blew my customer service expectations of an auto repair shop out of the water. He is honest, compassionate, a gentleman and did his best to work with my insurance company to get the best deal for me. In Sept-Oct 2016, I had my RAV4 rear lift gate window smashed in twice within a month and some other vandalism to boot. During this terribly difficult time when I had a lot of other stressful situations going on, the last thing I wanted to deal with was a auto body repair shop. Almost as bad as having to deal with a used car sales manager, has been my experience. That is, up until I called Charles Henry, talked to David and explained my situation. I only have street parking available to me, and even though the glass was going to take a few days to order, he let me drop it off right away so I wouldn't have to deal with neighborhood thieves getting into my car. The lift gate panel was painted perfectly, good as new , the replacement glass installed perfectly and all of the chunks of broken glass cleanly removed from the interior TWICE. They even tried their best to buff out some eucalyptus wax that had sat on my hood a little too long. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend anyone in the unfortunate need of auto body repairs to look no further, call Charles Henry. read more

Came here again after a double rear-ender. One with a motorcycle on a Friday and the next on Saturday, with a big Chevy Silverado that made my little VW Rabbit's rear bumper look like raw meat. Unfortunately, for me I had the insurance company suggest I go back to Charles Henry, which I didn't mind at first. My issues began on the Monday morning after my accident, when Brian dismissed my concerns as if the sounds I was hearing from underneath my car weren't valid. He made it seem like the motorcycle is the reason why those sounds were occuring. I'm like, "Dude, I drove all the way to f*ckin' Petaluma right after the motorcycle hit me - I didn't start hearing those sounds until AFTER that big @ss truck ran into my VW at full force, WTF?" And then he said, well I can't really do anything about it until after we take the car apart. So I'm like, "Whatevs, homie!" So he ends our conversation with him explaining to me that he'll have to use salvage parts for my car. I'm like, "huh?". Yep, two days for salvage parts to come in. This afternoon for OEM parts (if they're available! Something told me they weren't going to be available). So I go home, perplexed because this dude pretty much tried to make me look like a liar and it bothered me that he was going to use salvaged parts to fix my baby, so I called the Insurance Co. (USAA) and was like, "That clown didn't really listen to me and he wasn't friendly, and was the least bit concerned about me and my car". So what does my insurance adjuster do? She calls him, while I'm on the phone listening. He explains the motorcycle thing to her like he tried to with me. (I know what a f*ckin muffler scraping the ground sounds like! This did not sound like that! ) And she's like, "well, you should really take a look at it before you start guessing". He agrees, and she schedules an appointment with him after harrassing him about how long it's going to take to get my car in and out of there, because I will need a rental for the time I don't have a car. He told her he didn't even do the estimate yet, and that he needs to order parts, and it's going to take two days. He also promised to get the estimate to me by the end of the day. So 7PM rolls around, and I start cruising through YELP because I STILL DIDN'T GET AN ESTIMATE. What do I see? A lot of dissatisfied customers? Yeah, parts not fitting right? Bad customer service? Lies about ordering parts? Things not fixed that were on the estimate? People having to constantly follow up? WTF happened to you Charles Henry Company? Needless to say, I didn't want to become another one of this company's victims so I decided to cancel all of it, while I still could. Thank goodness I did, because my new auto body repair shop, "Too Good Auto Body" gave me a completely difference experience at our first meeting. Everything went so smoothly with all of the issues I had, they even test drove my car to hear the sounds I was talking about. He had an estimate to me the next the hour! I now look forward to getting my car fixed by someone else. I probably would've been all stressed and fearing the worst if I would have stayed with Charles Henry Company. read more

I just had a horrible customer service experience on the phone with a Charles Henry Company employee this morning. I asked if they operated on my vehicle model - they did - and then I started to explain the problem, but was interrupted. She told me that they only operate on vehicles that have been in collisions and asked if my vehicle was in a collision. When I replied no it wasn't, she hung up. I was shocked that this employee decided to hang up on me rather than simply say, "Since your vehicle hasn't been in a collision, we won't be able to help you". I will never seek out services from Charles Henry ever again after that experience. read more

The woman on the phone was not attentive and she intentionally interrupted me several times during the short conversation. After initially telling me I'd receive a written estimate, she then told that I'd only receive a verbal estimate. Therefore, I decided to go elsewhere. Perhaps this is an isolated incident. Although I've read other reviews that cite similar problem, so I doubt it. Just a very bad experience. -Things invoiced and not touched -More damage done in repairing -New parts damaged in installing by trying to force them to fit when body not aligned properly. -Parts not fit anywhere near properly -Original Parts missing -Original parts not re-installed properly -Original parts broken in trying to force proper fit. -Remnants of repair not even cleaned up i.e., metal shaving left to rust, etc. -Significant structural damage from accident missed -Broken parts from accident not noticed -Poor paint job -Took FAR longer than estimated Very, very shoddy work. Although Robert (the manager) is a VERY nice man and did try to make amends in many ways, this experience has required months of follow-up, huge inconvenience and out-of-pocket expense. read more

These guys were supposed to take the swirl marks off of my quarter panel. They took it from the quarter panel and spread the swirl marks throughout the entire vehicle! I took it back several times for them to fix it. I only got lips service! The last time they had the car, associate told me that this was the best that he could do and that he refuses to work on my vehicle! Be very careful when working with Charles Henry. My car was hit by another car on Sat. USAA, our insurance company, told us we could take it to a body shop for an estimate even before we spoke with a claim adjuster. On Mon, my husband got an appt with Charles Henry for an estimate, since they were locationally convenient and a USAA approved body shop. On Tues afternoon, he got a call basically implying that since we got an estimate from them, we were obligated to use them. I called USAA who confirmed we are NOT obligated to use them. Upon checking my claim, USAA found that Charles Henry had already asked for payment on this claim! Since they are USAA related, USAA issued them a check! A stop payment has been issued on this check. Luckily we caught them. I find these actions by Charles Henry highly unethical. Given the other reviews, I would recommend anyone to be very careful in working with them. I am definitely NOT recommending this body shop. Now I understand when people say they would give them no stars, but they have to give them at least one due to yelp's system. Charles Henry is in my insurer's local network of approved body shops, so I took the car here for body work. The job was to be completed in 5 days, it took them 10. Was told there were problems acquiring a part. The excuses sounded reasonable but also seemed the delay could have been avoided through better planning and execution. They did a good job of keeping me informed, though, day by day. In the end the work looked OK. They washed the car before returning it to me, but left the wheels dirty -- not a huge deal but puzzling -- if you're going to wash a car, why not do the whole car? Makes me wonder what else might have been done incompletely. All in all, a decent experience but could have been better. read more

If you want a quick, efficient auto body shop, look elsewhere! Second time trying them since they are super close to where I live. I decided to get a second estimate when the estimator tried to scare me about the cost if I don't use insurance. All the potential issues I asked the second shop and they assured me that those were highly unlikely. They also required 24 hours to get me an estimate. The second shop (Matt's Auto Body), which is also approved by my insurance, emailed it to me in an hour! It's only $1200 job. read more
