Love Charles some of the best and classic seafood you can get !!!!! The service is great

We are so grateful to have this place re-opened. It is our go-to place for fried/boiled seafood close to home. The current owners have done a great job. The only thing I haven't loved is the chargrilled oysters. I love Drago's-style chargrilled oysters but I found that these were too cheesy/salty -- would have preferred them raw. I had wonderful boiled crabs here the other night and I also really like the gumbo. My husband usually orders the fried shrimp and he loves them. Our daughter likes to save room for the "fudgie wudgie" cake. I hope Harahan/River Ridge residents continue support this restaurant -- it's a keeper. read more

Best food we had in New Orleans. Roasted Oysters, fantastic. Crawfish and alligator fritters, wonderful. Jambalaya grits, outstanding. Cheesecake my husband wolfed down and he doesn't like dessert. Draft beer. Platters of crawfish on Sunday's @ $3.98 a pound. Reasonable prices. Great service. Got gumbo to go and a piece of cheesecake for the nice owner of the KOA West. Can't miss with this place! Good food, nice portions, wonderful service and reasonable prices. We happen to be there on a Wednesday ... oysters were $5.95 a dozen. My wife and I split the Viola Special on muffuletta bread ... meatballs topped with our red gravy and melted mozzarella cheese. Wonderful!! We've tried lots of other things on previous visits and they were all good, too. read more

Ate here for dinner last night! I had the best muffelatta ever! Better than Central Grocery even! The onions rings were also wonderful and my husband had an oyster po-boy which he also said, was delicious! I would highly recommend them for a great meal read more

Recently ate at this neighborhood restaurant. It was around 2:30 and I was the only person in there. I found the food to be very over priced for a neighborhood joint. It was not inviting or friendly. Also the service was slow. I will not be returning. read more

Said in last review that we'd be back & here we are !! New menu items in addition to our old favorites ! Ronnie's feasting on boiled shrimp and I'm tripping on jambalaya grits ( Large bowl !). If we have tummy room, we're Going to share a bowl of Corn & Crab Bisque and maybe even 1 of their scrumptious desserts (can't decide which !!). This place is a Harahan staple, and I'm very glad it was reopened under new ownership after Frank Brigsten pretty much got forced out over the whole rent dispute issue. We got there around 4 on a Friday afternoon, so luckily beat the Friday Lent rush. We were seated and waited....and waited... Group that came in after us (think they were regulars there) placed their drink and appetizer orders before we were even acknowledged. We were about to walk out, but our waitress noticed us, and was very apologetic, and she was great the remainder of the meal. Our party got 2 Charlie platters and a shrimp platter. The seafood platters came with a decent gumbo-lots of shrimp and okra. I ordered the coleslaw instead of salad, and the coleslaw was very disappointing and bland. The platters were all pretty good. I would go here again, but Seithers will remain my go to seafood place in Harahan because their menu has such a good variety. read more

Was very disappointed tonight on how the employees (waitress & hostess) conducted themselves with seating customers. We had a party of 6 and called in advance to make a reservation and was told no reservations can be made on Fridays. So we went and put our name on the waiting list. After waiting 30 minutes my friend and I decided to go check on how much longer the wait would be. While in there we noticed 1 table available for a party of six, plus 2 tables of 4 each. Only 2 parties of six were there waiting to be seated. So, I questioned about the tables. Well they were seating the other party of six at the 2 tables put together. When I questioned about the available table for six I was told by the waitress that it was reserved for her sister. I then said, well we were told we couldn't reserve a table. Well they weren't there yet and we wanted to be seated. We were told no we couldn't have that table and she could hold the table for her sister all night. So being frustrated we said well we won't eat here and would never come back! The hostess then says to us well I don't care one way or the other. They are so rude and certain people are getting table reservations on a Friday night. We will not support a two faced business. read more

Reserved the place for a family gathering; party of 26. We had one server, Chris, but he did an excellent job serving everyone, keeping it organized and bringing out hot food. They even accommodated my cousin who was allergic to seafood (grilled chicken tenders). Everyone was satisfied. We even gave him a standing ovation at the end of the meal. Didn't given 5 stars due to atmosphere. Otherwise great neighborhood place to bring the family. read more

What happened to this place??? This used to be an outstanding neighborhood restaurant. I was in back in town for a few days and was looking forward to a great meal. The night that we visited, the restaurant was busy, but not packed. We waited almost 15 minutes for a waitress to show up and take a drink order. Once she did show up, she was very nice and attentive. I ordered the chargrilled oysters which had a good flavor but were woefully undercooked. There was nothing "chargrilled" about them. For my main course I ordered the BBQ Shrimp Poboy. What came out of the kitchen was a bunch of small, undercooked shrimp in what tasted like a bad pesto sauce. I gave up after three bites. There was nothing in this dish that resembled a New Orleans BBQ Shrimp dish. To give credit where it's is due, my wife's Chicken Parm was very good. To top all of this off, the prices are through the roof. $19 for a fried shrimp plate, and many entrees in the $22 range??? What a disappointment.... read more

Ate here Saturday, Jan 2. I knew when I arrived and had to park across the street because the locals eat here that I was at the right place. Great food, good price for quality and quantity. Waiter was honest that we would not be able to eat everything if we stayed with our original order so we tweaked it a bit and still couldn't finish. Noticed lots of take home boxes. Will eat here every time I'm in New Orleans! read more

My wife and I visit Charles Seafood often and have never had a bad experience there before, However, this time we were extremely dissatisfied. We were in the mood for oysters on the 1/2 shell and the "SPECIAL" $2.49 crawfish. The waitress asked us what we'd like to drink and we ordered lemonade. When she returned with the lemonade, we place our order. She told us they haven't brought the crawfish out yet, so I said we can wait for them. She brought the oysters, we ate them, and waited for the crawfish. 1/2 hour later the waitress returned and I asked about the crawfish. She said she didn't know if they had any and asked if we'd like her to find out. We, of course, said YES. By that time we had finished our lemonade and she asked if we'd like another glass and we replied YES. 10 minutes later she returned with the lemonade and told us that they had NO crawfish. Since we were still hungry, we ordered an Onion Ring appetizer. She served them quickly, but said she'd return to bring us a couple of plates, which were given to us 10 minutes later. 20 minutes later we asked for a container to take the remainder of the onion rings home. 10 minutes later we were given the container and the check. After questioning why we were charged over $6.00 for the lemonade refills, I was told the lemonade is homemade and refills are not free. read more

I kind of hope people don't discover what a hidden gem this place is because it will be packed! Seriously, this place is in my top 3 best places for seafood in NOLA. The service is friendly and down home...you feel like you're family here. Everything I've had on the menu I have enjoyed. The boiled crawfish early this spring were kind of smallish, but their boil is spicy and great! And the fries...their fries are handcut and very unique...I have cravings for them! You won't be disappointed. read more

I go here a lot for their seafood. Especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays, they have half of oysters! All of their food is really good. The servers are kind of off... But I will always love their food! read more
