I have thought that this place which is on the corner of Calhoun and Smith Street inside of a laundromat was only open from 3:00 p.m. onward. But I just looked and it opens at 12:00 noon. We had been to a funeral at Bethel United Methodist Church which was a short walking distance from Charleston Cheese. As we both loved cheese and the funeral reception and clean up took past 3 PM, we walked across Calhoun Street and walked in. A two person staff, a young female and a young male, both of whom were friendly and helpful. We ordered our food and were told it would take about 10 to 15 minutes which was fine with us. As the time got close we decided that we wanted it to go rather than eating there although we had eaten in the same space when there was a prior small food preparation place at the same location. I ordered the classic chicken sandwich which is the photograph I posted. Obviously the sandwich had been jostled a bit driving home but I tell you what I could not eat the entire thing in one sitting as the cheese was on it quite thickly, along with lettuce. I was asked if I wanted lettuce along with onions and I essentially said give me all of it. When it's your first time in a place and they say here's how we serve it but is this what you want I'm 99% of the time say sure. I certainly was glad that I did this time as it was absolutely delicious. Will we return. Absolutely certain, as after all the menu was flooded with $12 sandwiches and wraps. DoorDash review: The chipotle version of Mac and cheese! It's kinda like chipotle or verde or poke places where you can build a bowl to your liking. I had a Mac and cheese base (7 cheese blend I think) with pulled pork, bbq sauce, crispy onions, scallions, and crushed bbq chips on the side so they wouldn't get soggy. It was HUGE. This bowl was HEAVY. I've never eaten more Mac and cheese and pulled pork in my life and I didn't even get anywhere close to the bottom. It was super tasty though! I loved the taro tea with jelly and the cookies and cream shake too! Was in town visiting my mom at the hospital and my sister found Charleston Cheese on Yelp and we gave it a try. First off the couple working there (might be the owners) were working their butts off and were SUPER FRIENDLY!! I'd for sure visit again just because of them! We had just driven into Charleston one evening after an incredibly long day. The whole family was starved, and we were hoping for a quick bite, but there was nothing close to the hotel. A quick yelp search showed me this place, and I LOVE a grilled cheese so just sent the menu to my family and instructed them to find something and I'd go pick it up. I ordered the grilled cheese with the fried chicken cutlet, and it was truly amazing. Hard to eat, it was so big, but totally worth it. My husband had the Buffalo chicken grilled cheese and pepper jack Mac n cheese on the side and was very impressed. Both teenagers had the pepperoni grilled cheese, which they enjoyed. One had the mozzarella sticks that she said were amazing, and the other had the white cheddar Mac n cheese, which she finished with no complaints. Which is saying a lot. The owners were very helpful as I had initially not ordered correctly because I was tired and had no idea what I was doing. They fixed it up for me, and the wait for the food was no longer than I would have expected for food like this. It takes time to prepare quality items. New owners!!!!!! Straight from NYC. my daughter is a boba tea girl and I'm a cheese lover. So, this place was a no-brained MUST STOP location. We didn't have time to really eat so I o Lu tried the 7 cheese hot dip and chips... it's kinda thick like beer cheese, not too strong of a flavor but oh so yummy. The chips are fresh fried and strong enough to get a good scoop of cheese!!!! I'll for sure be back to try more cheesy goodness, like the zucchini pimento grilled cheese or of course the mac n cheese! Who doesn't love cheese?? We stumbled upon this quaint little eatery while searching on Yelp while in Charleston. We were looking for takeout as we had our son with us and it was almost nap time. Although the food took a little longer than initially anticipated it was worth the wait. I tried the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich which was delicious. This place is so legit... and yeah, it's "in" a laundromat... but it doesn't matter how you feel about that... The Zucchini Grilled Cheese with the sweet pepper jam was phenomenal. Easily the best vegetarian sandwich I've had in Charleston. Grab more napkins than you should need and it might not be the best idea if you have a gnarly beard, but worst case scenario - the laundromat is literally right there.
