But this trendy spot has an Interesting take on Vietnamese menu items including a Pho flavored cocktail however I was not too bold. My wife and I recently went here for a weekend dinner and had a solid experience. We came without a reservation and were seated immediately. Pink Bellies' ambiance was casual and unassuming. Pink Bellies is extremely Americanized Vietnamese food-there were plenty of butter and dairy in the dishes, atypical of Vietnamese cuisine. It was also hard to order anything on the menu that was healthy, as most everything was fried in some way or had red meat/butter. Despite the restaurant being empty, our dishes took longer than would be expected to come out. My wife and I shared the fried brussels sprouts, which were outstanding. Popped in for a quick bite and have heard a lot about this place. Very cute and vibrant place with lots of pink! I was greeted quickly and sat right away when I walked in. The servers were all very helpful and seemed to work well together. I asked about the sweetness in the hot n spicy noodles, he did tell me that it is very buttery sweet and not that spicy. I did end up asking for less sauce during the preparation. I started off with the Sui cao pork dumplings. This was a solid 5/5, good texture and chew, loved all the scallions on top and the sauce that went with it. I pretty much drank it all lol! I decided to try the hot n spicy chicken noodles. Upon seeing them I was definitely excited to dig in. For my personal preference I like my stir fried noodles to be more Al dente so these were a bit over cooked and too soft, especially with how much sauce was coated on them. The initial flavor with the savory, buttery and sweetness was good. But it's one of those dishes that the flavors got very overwhelming after a handful of bites. It was just SO rich and I understand that is what they were going for. So for me I liked the components of this dish, but for my personal preference I didn't enjoy it as much because of how rich and sweet it was. Like my lips felt very greasy the whole time eating it. Overall I would still give it a 4/5 because it still had good flavors. I've had the OG garlic noodles togo with the pork before and I really enjoyed those. The pickled onions did it for me because the acidity really complemented the other flavors. I think having those onions in the other noodle dish could've helped with how rich the flavors were as well. I know this place is definitely going for that elevated yet eccentric take on Vietnamese food so if you're looking for something different this is a great place. If you're looking for a more classic and traditional approach on Vietnamese food, this would not be the place. But overall, a solid menu and service. read more

My first restaurant while visiting, we stopped in as soon as they open without a reservation and was sat immediately. The host, who was also our waiter came over promptly and checked on us from time to time I think the place is very cute, yet small. But picture worthy. To start I ordered a limeade, which was extremely tart, it tasted like squeeze limes and water. I would never order that again. For an appetizer, I got the spicy lamb dumplings. They were very flavorful. I enjoyed them a lot. They just weren't hot when they came out kinda just warm. The strange part is that smoke was coming from it. For my entree I ordered the garlic OG noodles in which I added grilled chicken too. Not really realizing that the grilled chicken was gonna be chicken thigh. To which I don't like, I ended up picking that off and that's when I found out those garlic noodles did not come to play 10 out of 10 do recommend. Our first time in Charleston and we found such a great little spot. We made sure to make a reservation as the restaurant's seating is limited inside and we were taken immediately. We sampled a lot like the fried avocado, the dumplings, general Gerry's chicken, and the og noodles with poached eggs add on. Pink Bellies has an adorable, eclectic atmosphere and absolutely amazing food. You will need a reservation, as it's a popular spot. The menu isn't huge but it is very well done! They have veggie options, such as veggie dumplings or you can get the garlic noodles with tofu instead of pork. This is the best place we've eaten at in Charleston so far. The flavors were amazing! The mushrooms dumplings were so good, I could've drank the sauce they came in. And the OG garlic noodles were insane. Adding parmasean was an interesting choice but it worked so well! I love the type of mushroom they used, and it was very garlicky. YUMMM. For drinks, I tried the Thai tea martini. I loved the foam on top, but the drink itself was okay. Service, and receiving food is fast, perhaps a bit too fast as we were able to complete our meal in about 40 minutes, as our main dishes were served before finishing our appetizers. We started with delicious Spicy Lamb Dumplings served with Bamboo (which I don't remember ever eating before), Cilantro, in a spicy, smoked Dumpling Sauce with Chili Oil. We could not decide on a second appetizer, so we split a main dish of Spicy Garlic Lo Mein. This is an Egg Noodles dish with very Crispy broccoli Rob, Celery, and possibly yellow squash in a spicy Oyster Sauce. The wife finally found a Lo Mein dish she likes better than the one she got in Charlotte NC over 10 years ago Being that it is the season, we each ordered a Soft-Shell Crab Bun Mi. The crab is served on a very large Milk Bun, with slightly sweet Pickles. The Crab was cooked perfectly, however there was just too much Tartar Sauce which overpowered the crab. The wife decided to eat her crab without the massive bun, while at the same time removing as much of the Tatar sauce as she could. I debated deducting 1 start for the over sauced, sandwich, but since this is just a seasonal special, and the other dishes were so great, I gave a full 5. While I still haven't made it in to dine at Pink Bellies (it's on my list, I swear!), I've been ordering it for delivery every couple of weeks for over a year now--and it never misses. It's become a classic Sunday night dinner in my household for good reason. We always get the General Gerry's Chicken and the Garlic Noodles, which easily feeds two (with leftovers!). The chicken is perfectly crunchy, sticky, and flavorful, and the noodles are just so good--rich, garlicky, and totally comforting. It's hands-down one of my favorite spots in Charleston and one of my ultimate go-to comfort foods. Outside of having quite possibly the best burger in town (that we foolishly ordered as a 4x4), Pink Bellies offers a wide variety of dishes that anyone can enjoy. Outside of the burger I would recommend the General Gerrys chicken and the OG Garlic Noodles, but really, you can't go wrong with anything here. The staff was helpful in helping us choose some drinks to go along with our meal, however the service was somewhat slow - especially for the amount of people that were in the restaurant at the time. Thankfully I had good company so I didn't mind that much, and we also piled on the food. I would go back again - and I have! I've actually gone back since I took these pictures but it was for pickup. We came here for some softies! It was Easter Sunday so the restaurant was quiet, with only a couple other guests. The atmosphere was nice and the aesthetic was clean and modern with a really cute pig logo. Our server seated us right away and he was really attentive. So...this has been on my list of want to try spots for a long time now, just because of all the hype surrounding the garlic noodles. I am a huge noodle lover, and a huge garlic lover, and a huge garlic noodle lover, so I had a feeling I would love this. Do you know how some popular dishes at places are so overhyped that when you end up trying it you are kind of disappointed because you thought it would be better? Well this was NOT the case for me at Pink Bellies. I was absolutely blown away by these OG Garlic Noodles. Made my entire day. The pork that comes on it is so tender and soft it melts in your mouth. The ratio of pickled onions is so perfect it seems like it was made for me (I can never have enough pickled onion and places never put enough). And the flavor of the garlic noodles was so amazing I ended up feeling sick after inhaling the whole bowl in ten minutes! It also comes with a super cool presentation of (gochujang maybe?) sauce wiped around the outer edge of the bowl which added a great touch to the already bursting with flavor bowl. I didn't try anything else on their menu but I am so happy I finally knocked this off the bucket list. Four stars because menu was a bit pricey for what it is. read more

Was a little disappointed at this spot. Went by myself and they put me in this bar seating area that faced just stacks of togo boxes, lids, chopsticks etc. which isn't the end of the world, but there were plenty of other tables. Not to mention the chair not being adjustable and was a tight squeeze to the table. I ordered the Sui Cao Dumplings as an appetizer and then the Spicy Garlic Lo Mein for my main dish. The dumplings came out like 2 minutes before they brought out the main dish - which could've been timed better. The dumplings were warm at best and looked like they came from the freezer. I asked for chili oil for the dumplings but by the time it came, I had maybe 1-2 left. For a dish to be named Spicy Garlic, it had none of that. The dish was instead sweet with the celery and onions not cooked all the way and still raw. I'm assuming they wanted to add some texture to the dish by throwing it in at the end. IMO I thought the celery and onion would've added enough texture even if they were cooked in addition to the Chinese broccoli. I think the ideas are there for it to be really good, just could use better execution. It also could just be I caught a bad day. read more
