First time visiting and what an awesome experience. Right next door to what seems to be a periodic farmers market set up (seasonal?). Ordered the Ethiopian pour over and a mocha and both drinks were stellar. Baristas were very friendly. The shop was more centered towards tables for families to sit and spend time than to study or do work although there were several people working with laptops. Parking situation is possibly a little tricky. We parked across the street at the bank and there seemed to be some on street parking. Cute place and lots of different roast styles (obviously, they roast their own coffee). read more

We bought some Rainforest Blend from a local grocery store. It is the blandest coffee that I have ever tasted.

I am in LOVE with the Kiawah Organic blend. I have tried making coffee at home with so many different brands over the years, nothing has come close to how good the Kiawah blend is. This particular blend is available in whole bean form at a couple of local grocery chains, so I'm able to grind the beans myself to get more flavor. I use a cheap coffee maker and this coffee STILL comes out amazing. I do a fine to extra fine grind because my coffee maker pushes water through so quickly it isn't able to extract much flavor without some help. I typically make one cup at a time using 3 level tablespoon scoops (loosely packed) and 6.3 ounces of spring water (two scoops per 6oz cup). Prefer coffee on the stronger side. You may want to adjust this ratio when making multiple cups. When done this way, for me, the flavor always comes out as the packaging describes, "Smooth, rich and full-bodied with chocolate overtones". Not only is the coffee fantastic, they have great-looking packaging/merch available for purchase on their website. Whomever is responsible for the graphic design did an awesome job. Serious coffee lovers only! It's not Starbucks. That's a beautiful thing. The warehouse/sales floor/tasting room is perfect for what the owner intended. Make great coffee from great coffee beans. It's not about mass producing charcoal tasting dark roast which is a trick lots of roasters use to hide sub-par beans. Charleston Coffee Roasters cares about each and every cup of coffee brewed with their product. They subtly bring out every nuance of the bean with a very attentive small roasting process. Each type of bean needs special attention. Walk in at anytime during business hours and Lowell and Charles will stop what they're doing in order to learn your palate and cater to it. Have a cup of coffee since they always have an air pot of some fresh fantastic brew and you will see that coffee doesn't get any better than this. It's an industrial setting, but it will be a regular stop once you taste the fruit of their labor of love. They also sell those hard to find syrup flavorings as well. I would sleep nights here if I could. Just to wake up on coffee Heaven! Park on front and walk around to the left of the building to enter. Try their signature blend. Its amazing! read more

Bought because it's organic since regular coffee can be acidic. The coffee tasted good but caused stomach irritation which is why I buy organic. Also, organic coffee is grown at high altitude to avoid insecticides. If it's grown in Charleston SC- it's flat so this can't be organic. read more

I expected a lot better. The coffee took 4 days from when they roasted it to travel a few hundred miles to my house. It took them over 24 hours just to ship it out, which contradicts what they state on their website. Once I received the beans, I fired up my espresso maker and made a cup. It was bland and lifeless. I adjusted things and it was still bland and lifeless. I ordered a few different types, so I tried another to only get the same results. It's as if they just took the same beans and put them in each bag, in spite of what I ordered. They didn't match their descriptions at all. I have some old Lavazza beans that I use for cold brew that have a better aftertaste than what I got fresh from Charleston Coffee Roasters. I was excited to try something new, but was met with disappointment. read more

We bought their beans at a local grocery store, and were very disappointed with the lack of flavor. I love strong coffee, so I always fill the filter up on our drip coffee maker, and that still wasn't enough to get a real hit of coffee taste. We bought the breakfast blend and the organic whole beans, and our coffee maker grinds the beans right before brewing. Honestly, the most disappointing coffee I've ever had! It doesn't taste BAD, it just doesn't taste like much of anything, no matter how many beans are used. We were so happy to support a smaller roaster, and it seems we've learned our lesson (research before purchasing, even if the packaging is cute and it's buy one get one free). We'll finish up the beans we have, but I absolutely do not recommend this coffee read more

You'd hardly know they were there as they're tucked in a warehouse next to I-26. But once you find them, you'll be glad you did. While you won't be able to order a carmel mochiotto and lounge around soaking up free wi-fi for hours on end, you will be able to purchase freshly roasted coffee and enjoy a free cup just for stopping in. They have open house tours about once a month which are worthwile for anyone who likes free coffee. read more

I've been here a handful of times and always get iced coffee. The coffee is pretty average BUT the people here are awesome! I continue to return because the service is always so good. I always take my coffee to go, but I spend the whole time I'm in there chatting with the people making the coffee and it is by far, consistently the friendliest service I have found in Charleston. The inside is a smaller area so it'd be good for a quick stop for coffee, but I don't know if I'd hunker down here and do work (something I look for in coffee shops). But because the service is always so quick and friendly, I always run in if I'm in the area and running errands. read more

Saw the sign and got excited to buy some coffee, had to manuever around to find it off the freeway and pulled up and sign on the door said not open for retail but didn't have a list or directions on where to buy the product. Disappointed because we have had the coffee and its great. read more

The coffee here is top notch. I've had coffee all over the US, including on a Kona coffee farm, so I think that qualifies me. I am disappointed they don't carry any straight up Hawaiian coffee, because I think it would help them out. Then again, their owner is very picky about his beans, which is why it's top notch. Definitely worth buying if you are in the area. This is not a coffee shop per se, it's a roaster, so they sell whole beans and ground beans, not really drinkable coffee. read more

Bought a bag of Signature Blend from Costco. It's clearly made with care. The roast was even and nicely medium dark. I used it ground fine for espresso. The aroma from the beans was pleasant and balanced, though not as dark as I usually buy. The flavor was thinner than expected, and this is probably from the beans. Perhaps they need to find fuller flavor beans? It's not organic, so that's not what is holding them back. The bitterness, reminiscent of Starbucks, is pronounced and drew criticism from those who tasted it. My house brand is Mayorga, an organic coffee also sold at Costco. I love Charleston, and I really wanted to love this. read more
