Vegan strawberry Biscoff muffin and dirty chai latte with oat milk
    Charity T.

Stopped here for my first time today; was looking for coffee shop near Citadel Mall and this popped up. Cute little shop that is easy to miss as it's tucked away in a back corner of a little shopping plaza off of a side street. The two ladies working were personable. The one that took my order was vegan like me, she suggested the strawberry Biscoff muffin, as I was eyeballing the sweets display. I also got a hot dirty chai latte with oat milk. It was probably the best one I've ever has; The coffee was smooth, the chai was pronounced but still subtle enough that everything blended well. I love the design on the top too. I saw that they also had Matcha, which I'll have to go back to try, along with an avocado toast. The shop had ample seating and multiple people were in there working on their computers while enjoying their coffee and food. Although not vegan, the waffles looked tasty. They had some grab and go beverages as well as some bags of coffee, T-shirts, cups, stickers, etc., that you could buy. Definitely will be back when I'm over this way!

Quaint and tucked away under live oaks Second State outdoor seating provides a peaceful retreat to read a book, solve your crossword, and sip your coffee. Inside is a bit more lively primarily made up of groups chatting and remote workers. The ice mocha had a hint of spice to hit like a Mexican hot cocoa. Possibly the cinnamon and spice hints from the coffee beans or maybe a secret ingredient to add a nice touch. Snag a tasty pastry and coffee to kickstart your day.

Very cute small location. The baristas were kind and whipped up great lattes. Their pastries were also very good and a decent size. This would be a good place to chill or work/study.

Met a friend here for morning coffee and a chat, we both intended to work here after but it's a bit loud and lots of in and out so wasn't ideal for that. The coffees were great and came out quick relative to the length of the line. The staff are friendly and efficient. Their scone was really good too! Parking is easy and they have several table options.

Went to Second State for their monthly complimentary coffee tasting they hold on the 2nd of each month. This was an educational session I didn't know I needed. Our educational consultant (Brianna) was very knowledgeable about the varietials of each bean and filled our minds as well as our nose and palates with the great taste of coffee, great information, and a great communal gathering. Really relaxing vibe and cool event. Looking forward to the next session.

Cute spot that's worth searching out. Comfortable, sunny, free WiFi, friendly and skilled staff. Our barista recommended several options and we chose a honey lavender latte that was perfection. My friend had a special request and they were move than happy to accommodate. Nice selection of non coffee options and baked goods (nothing gluten free on our visit but looked great!) with plenty of easy parking up front. We will be back.

    Peach Second State Matcha

Arriving at this location on the edge of town (out of several locations) yielded a somewhat limited food menu. I wasn't up for sweets, but the idea of a peach-flavored matcha latte was interesting enough. On the scale of what it might have been, it was more matcha than peach, plenty bitter with just a hint of the local fruit du jour. Not a large beverage, but it was ready quickly. I may try one of their other locations if I do find myself more in need of a waffle.

This place was cute, nice atmosphere. We split a muffin and had a chai latte and a lavender latte. Interesting menu, I'd return and get the waffles next time I'm in the area

I already wrote an extensive review back when this location was Broom Wagon, but I figured it should be updated for the takeover by Second State (SS) Pros: the staff has remained just as kind & friendly, and SS kept the delicious waffles from Broom Wagon! Some of our favorites include the deviled egg waffle, the peanut butter & banana waffle, the prosciutto & greens waffle, and the lemon & blueberry waffle (Small) Con: some of my favorite lattes disappeared when SS took over because Broom Wagon made some of their own syrups. We loved the candied ginger and cardamom lattes in particular. Initially, SS kept the candied ginger and got rid of the cardamom. Then, they replaced the candied ginger with a ginger cookie that mostly tasted like cookie, not ginger. That ultimately disappeared too. On our most recent trip, they brought back a cardamom latte, but it was a very floral side of cardamom, not the spice notes of the old cardamom latte. Even though my favorite lattes no longer exist, I s enjoy stopping in for a waffle and a latte (they're still good without my favorite flavors) whenever I am in town, and SS does try to offer new items on rotation. For example, we recently tried the "Blutini" tea latte (iced only). My fiancé really enjoyed it, and while I would not necessarily get it again, it was fun for that day. As long as they keep the waffles, we will keep on returning, and we definitely recommend that you check this location out!

    Loved the art here!

The service is great, however, after trying a few times we cannot get accustomed to the coffee. Seems quite bitter.

We came for breakfast and started with the banana bread with Nutella cream cheese -- absolutely incredible. We also split the cornmeal pancakes, which were so good we came back the next morning just to have them again. I ordered the B.E.C. with the home fries, and I can honestly say they may have been the best potatoes I've ever had in any form. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and they practically melted in my mouth. My husband had the turkey club and said it was fantastic as well. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and memorable. We loved it so much we went back the very next day. 10/10 -- highly recommend if you're visiting Charleston!

He also had a meal removed from the bill - it was brought out Luke warm unfortunately. Overall food was good everyone was happy with their choices. Burger didn't come with fries but was big enough to fill up an 18 year old boy. Salad had a great sauce, was a little thrown off with the cold waffle but it's supposed to come like that server said. The avocado toast was so good but eggs were cold unfortunately. It didn't ruin the taste so still recommend. Visited on vacation but I would go back and try other plates.

Service: our waitress was incredibly friendly and super nice. Atmosphere: they have an open layout and very vibe/ dance music. They do have a Photo Booth which is pretty unique. It looked like they did brunch/ breakfast and then evening had a pizza parlor. There was a bar off to the side when you first walk in Food: peach French toast and egg and cheese biscuit. The peach French toast is one of their specialties and it was super tasty. Had peach flavor and whipped cream and was a huge serving. The biscuit was a huge serving also and was definitely filling. Popular brunch spot & a good option on Sundays when not every place is open on King's Street…read more There is a bit of a wait (could be over 30 min), depending on the size of your crowd. Our waiter was super busy & at times hard to flag down. He did a nice job of refills for the kids, but when the food came out, we literally had zero napkins and zero utensils. That is basic stuff- I shouldn't have to flag down people for when getting seated. I ended up finding another waiter who was helping to bring out our food and asking him for napkins and cutlery. The beignets here are not what you expect- think super mini ones versus the classic ones you get from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans or other joints. We would have placed two orders of them except I knew the brunch plates would be big, and we wanted our kiddos to eat their meal before filling up on sweets. I got the Meeting plate- double portion of crab cakes on top of fried green tomatoes with grits and a huge buttermilk biscuit, where I didn't finish the biscuit and had one of our kids eat half of it. I was craving some fried green tomatoes but also wanted seafood so that worked out! My partner got the fried green tomatoes BLT and loved it. One of our kids got the chicken and waffles, another ate all of the fried chicken tenderloins, and our third really wanted buttermilk pancakes that were a hefty plate. No shortage of being hungry at this place! The food was good, but I would not say it was anything too different than any other brunch place-but for, the fried green tomatoes & other southern offerings like grits that you wouldn't get in other parts of the country. There are only two wash rooms, so there can be a wait especially when you have a long line of ladies waiting FYI. Prices are not too bad and standard for brunch so still an alternative when you are looking for fuel to fill up before doing your shopping on King's Street.
