When I moved to the South Suburbs, there was Bistro at Sterling. It closed. Flossmoor Social became its replacement. I had planned to come in a few times, but timing was never right. I had a Friday evening that I had not blocked with other plans, so I set aside time on my calendar for a follow-through. Since it was just me, I made a note to sit at the bar. However, it seemed that everyone who was at the restaurant for dining was at the bar. The main floor had one other table with diners. I have noticed that people in the suburbs tend to pile up at the bar in an otherwise empty restaurant. Nevertheless, I got to enjoy space in the main dining area without having others on top of me. I ordered a few landings so that I could try a few selections. I started with a bowl of lobster bisque. Unlike lobster bisque at a lot of restaurants, this was creamy like what you get at restaurants in the Atlantic Northeast. My second landing was cornmeal crusted oysters. These came as deep-fried oysters over creamed spinach and topped with an aioli. I am not a fan of oysters as-is, but deep fried and served the way they were at Flossmoor Social, I would certainly order them again. My third landing was saffron risotto and mushrooms topped with salmon. This dish was outstanding. And having had two prior dishes, I ordered a Smoked Young Fashioned cocktail to pair with the risotto. It was Old Fashioned meets smoke. I finished with a small bowl of lemon sorbet, which was refreshing and light given all the food I had beforehand. I score high marks for the service. Where I will raise a flag is with the speed in which everything came to the table. The lobster bisque and the oysters arrived at the table at the same time. No sooner than I was finishing the oysters than the risotto arrived. I imagine the size of the restaurant may create the need for trying to turn table around fast. Food coming to the table in quick succession results in diners speeding through the dishes. When food is flavorful, it should be savored, not rushed. Other than that, I recommend this spot for some good eating. You may want to indicate that you would like a few minutes between each dish. read more

Tried to change reservation; they employ AI to answer the phone, which was a singularly nightmarish experience. Kept saying the same thing over and over, without referring me to a human - or actually letting me change the reservation. Not sure how hard it is to have one person just pick up a phone while doing other things - do they actually have that many calls streaming in at all hours that they have to dedicate an AI bot to answering (or actually not-answering) the phone? Had the BEST time tonight at a newly opened, Black-owned gem in Flossmoor--and wow, let me tell you... the food was AMAZING. Every bite hit. Flavor on flavor, clearly made with love and intention. The service? Just as good as the food. The customer service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in. The music set the perfect vibe--good energy, good sounds, good times. Shout-out to Preston, one of the owners, who was incredibly friendly and took the time to come over and talk with us. You can really feel the pride and passion behind this place. And Lonnie, our server, was fantastic--he broke everything down for us, explained the menu items in detail, and made sure we felt comfortable and excited about what we ordered. Keep in mind, this review is early on upon opening. I will return to review when the kinks are worked out. In the meantime, I would try to snag a bar seat. Got seated and got water. Waited 15 mins to be acknowledged by the waitress. Another 25 min to get a drink-they wound up comping them. We only got apps as clearly they were overwhelmed and did not want to take a chance on a long entree wait. Only local or black owned liquors which is great. There was a wine list and specialty cocktails so perhaps add a spirits list as well. If there was one, I apologize as I missed it! The table we were sat at was only really for three which we were, four would not eat comfortably there. The booth we were in was not comfortable but the overall ambiance is very nice. The Spring Roll of the Day was 3 bang bang shrimp tacos which were very good. Also the ahi tuna was good. Caesar salad needed some flavor so ask for some salt and pepper. Also had hard parts that should not be in a salad. Choices for whatever type of meal you were in the mood for was available so everyone should be able to find something. Next we ordered the jumbo lump crab dinner and half roasted chicken dinner - zero complaints. The chicken was tender and seasoned to perfection and stayed hot throughout the entire meal! Every time I cut into it steam appeared and each bite was moist and seasoned. The crab was crispy on the outside and seasoned well. Our drinks were a French 75 and vodka tonic the French 75 was very good my partner felt the vodka tonic could use a little more vodka but overall not a big deal. The booth seats are not that deep in the seat area forcing you to sit somewhat upright; but we liked that bc our posture served us well for digestion purposes. Overall a 10/10. We chose Flossmoor Social to celebrate our 25-year wedding anniversary, and it turned out to be a wonderful decision. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt intentional and welcoming. The team surprised us with a lovely note acknowledging our anniversary--a small but thoughtful gesture. For a Sunday night, the crowd was lively without being overwhelming. The décor strikes a nice balance between upscale and comfortable, not stuffy. The cocktails were well executed--we had the smoky Old Fashioned, which had depth and balance, you got the smoke flavor in every sip. For food, the crab cakes were a good choice; real lump crab meat, moist and full of flavor. The miso cod (listed as sea bass on the website) was nicely prepared with crispy skin and a tender interior, served alongside bok choy. While the menu mentioned a purée that wasn't on the plate, the dish still delivered on taste and execution. We also enjoyed the burrata salad, which was fresh and we finished the meal with a warm chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream--simple and satisfying. There is a small charge for warm bread, which was tasty; wrapping it in a napkin to retain the heat would make it even better. Our server, Daja, was a delight, attentive and friendly. Overall, Flossmoor Social offers a refined dining experience close to home. Wonderful girl's night out with fantastic food and drinks! We each had signature cocktails like the Sake-Ginger Lemon Drop, Garden Party, and the Petal & Pearl. All were creatively presented and just as tasty! For our meal we all endulged in the restaurant week menu, starting with a delicious lobster bisque. I had the roasted chicken and my friends had the salmon. All were cooked to perfection. We finished the meal with a decadent butter cake. The portions were perfect and the price was right! Food was good but service was iffy. Our server was really nice but it took 30 min for our first drink to come out. We had to ask several times for our food as they brought out one item but forgot the other. Also, be advised you only get happy hour prices at certain tables. Kind of difficult to find parking depending on the time of day you go because it's right across the street from the metra station. When you walk in the place it is definitely cozy and very intimate aka small. Although, it is a great ambiance the place needs some art decor on the walls. I got there right after 6p and the gentleman at the hostess stand I believe his name was Donvian. The place was crowded, went right after happy hr ended. I didn't have reservations, he was nice but not very helpful. He just told me well it's packed idk what to tell you. He couldn't give me a wait time or anything. I'm glad I waited because I was able to sit at the bar perhaps 5 mins after having a discussion with him about getting a table. This same gentleman brought my friend and I our entrees and he brought them out on a tray and was looking at us as if we were supposed to take them off the tray ourselves. We had to gesture to him to sit the plates on the bar for us. He needs a bit of hospitality training. My friend and I sat at the bar Alex was the bartender. Alex was great 5/5. The bar has a beautiful top and there's outlets to charge your phone. I noticed a party sitting at the bar that had cashed out but still taking up the seats for over a hr. Perhaps they need a policy regarding sitting at the bar and not ordering anything. It seems as if there is only 1 person cooking because it took forever between the appetizers and entree to come out. It definitely took about 30 mins plus to receive our entrees. Honestly, we probably would've cashed out and left because it took so long but we wanted to wait to taste the entrees. My friend and I had the lobster bisque. It was flavorful but very salty. I could taste garlic in it so perhaps too much garlic salt. We also had the oysters. The fried oyster was delicious but definitely could've did without the creamed spinach that wasn't creamed at all. It was very soupy. It needed cheese and perhaps placed under a broiler to bring it together. The spinach was bland. After waiting what seem like forever for our food.....I ordered the short rib bucatini and my friend had the sea bass. The short rib was tender but the dish as a whole was bland. I had to add salt,pepper, and cheese. The sea bass was ok per my friend. She stated there wasn't enough miso and couldn't taste the bourbon. I ordered the social sundae to go. To open it and find a brownie. On the menu at the restaurant it states a chocolate lava cake, the only reason I ordered it. Online it says brownie. We had the social egg roll, lobster bisque, lamb chops and Caesar salad from the apps menu. My husband ordered off the app menu for his dinner to try a few things. Everything was delicious. A special shout out to the Caesar salad with anchovies (we added steak); these flavors created a standout; honestly the best Caesar I've ever eaten. The spicy rigatoni (added steak) was excellent; it was very spicy. My son ordered and ate it; it would have been too spicy for me. I had the shrimp étouffée which was filled with shrimp in a yummy sauce with smoked cheese grits. We finished with cheesecake and butter cake. The butter cake wasn't on the menu; ask for it as it is a not miss. We were so amazed at all of the flavors we experienced.
