I was hungry for a cheesesteak and was curious about this place. Based on the previous reviews I…read morethought it was worth a try. I was also intrigued about the cheesesteak egg rolls. I hate to say it but I didn't like it. I ordered a cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak egg roll. My biggest complaint with both was the meat was chopped way too fine for me. I'm use to big slices of steak and chicken in my cheesesteaks. The sub roll was also not substantial enough to stay intact when I bit into it. It just fell apart. I will try this place again when I'm visiting the area because like I said earlier others thought it was great. I'll also go earlier next time because I overheard the cook say while I was waiting, "here comes the end of the night rush." They had some good foot traffic.

Let's get into it! This Cheesesteak Cafe is a "Mom and Pops Joint" located at Peninsula Town…read moreCenter. It serves Philly-style cheesesteaks, samplers, egg rolls, exceptional customer service, and some of the Best Wings I have had in the area! The restaurant is relatively small and gloomy, with enough seating to hold about 20 people for dine-in; however, this place is not a dine-in but a takeout place. I like that they put their full menu online, unlike other places that only put limited items. Service is outstanding; my first time calling in an order, the server not only told me how long it would be. Also, on this occasion, after calling in my order and completing the call, the server realized there was something that they did not have at the time. So she took the time to call and let us know and offered us something else. It was honorable in my eyes that she did that. Lastly, when I arrived, she double-checked to ensure my order was correct before I left the store. I had a cheesesteak, and my wife had the same. They were served hot, cheese melted all the way, and tasted terrific; the only problem was they were light with the meat. This is a very unique menu. They have sampler platters that can feed an army or combo platters that can feed two, and the price is right. You can mix and match them or have the pre-selected item. Now, let me talk about these wings. AMAZING! Fried to perfection, seasoned with a wet or dry rub, plain or on the side. These are cooked to order, so if you get wings to go, they are still hot when you get home. These wings are excellent, and you get them whole or halved. The wings are a must-try; they are some of the best in the area! I recommend you call ahead, but if you don't, there is a seating area where you can wait. I will be back! Happy Yelping!

It has a modern diner type of vibe to it. Over the years the food and service here has been good. I come here when I want a hoagie and fries. As I walked in, I was greeted by the waitress and immediately seated myself. The menu was readily available in a shelf on the wall next to my table. As soon as I sat down, the waitress was ready to take my order. I had a craving for a sandwich. I ordered a large cold corned beef hoagie with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, mustard and mayo. I added a side of fries also. The beef is put on top of the toppings so the hoagie at first glance looks like its missing toppings. (See picture) Unsweet tea and water were my drinks. As I waited for my food I watched college basketball on the television screen in the back of the room. Eventually, the food arrived within ten minutes. The fries were hot and the hoagie was fresh. The hoagie and fries were so good I ordered and ate another hoagie. In addition to this the waitress ensured I had plenty to drink. At the end of the meal, my craving was satisfied. I was happy and full. I will be back definitely.

One thing to note is that this place is technically "The Cheesesteak Shop"... you'll see it on the menu when you come in. Rick's is a staple of a name in the Hampton Roads area. Rick's is a name that is synonymous with great Cheese Steak and if you visit them all you'll notice differences in the recipes/flavor amongst them. We were at the one in Williamsburg one week, then went directly to this one the next week later. This one, the meat is slightly more seasoned with pepper or something with a mild heat. Nothing crazy, just noticeable. The bread was a little wet and I really would've preferred it being more toasted. Overall, it was an 'ok' cheese steak. I was going to rate this a 3 but overall I give it a 4 b/c the service was friendly enough to warrant the boost. Me and my buddy are on a cheesesteak kick to find the best in the area. How did this fare? VERY delicious. The steak and seasoning were SPOT on awesome. The level of cheese and steak were just perfection. I had flashbacks of eating this cheesesteak and made the mistake of going somewhere close by for another... talk about a huge letdown. Had some fries as well on top of that and yep... awesome seasoning for them as well. When it comes to Cheesesteaks - this place is a solid 4.8... why the .2 less? The only thing that could make this perfect would be the bread. if they toasted it or changed it to make it that super crusty bread, these would probably be the best without even thinking. I had never been here so I asked another customer what to get and she said "everything is good". I ordered a 12-in cheese steak with sweet peppers, fries and a bottled drink. I was shocked that the bill was $24 (14 for the sandwich, 7 for fries & drink). I ate a few fries on the drive home and they were good. I got a watermelon crush which I had never seen before and enjoyed it. I have mixed feelings about the cheesesteak. It didn't feel like enough cheese and the bread was pretty soggy. I think I will come back to try their pizza or non-cheesesteak sandwiches/wraps but we'll see!

After attending Sunday Mass on 1/12/25, I decided to try out King's Philly. Cheesesteaks are…read moredifficult to successfully replicate, despite the fact I generally enjoy the ones I've tried locally. In that respect, if you're looking for authenticity, King's Philly won't make that list. When I arrived, King's was empty. There was one employee at the counter, and I quickly noticed two kiosks against the wall to the right of the entrance. I made my way to the kiosks and noted that the employee didn't say a word when I walked in. I like kiosks mainly because I can see, right in front of me, the entire menu. I noticed an oxtail philly, a bulgogi philly, and even a salmon philly on the menu. With this being my first time here, I decided on a regular old philly - in this case, a Classic Philly Beef. I ordered that and made it a combo (French fries, can of soda). After I ordered and paid, I sat down at a table and waited for my food. As I waited, I noticed that King's Philly is connected to Sushi King. Sushi King has been consolidating their space the past few years as they converted the other end of their suite into a Domoishi, and now this space for King's. By the way, King's interior is bright, colorful, clean, and organized. I waited maybe 10 minutes - the girl at the counter informed me my order was ready, and I picked it up at the counter. There are no fountain drinks available (a drawback, imo), but there is a fridge at the counter where you can choose your soda (cans). There is a second fridge next to it which has bottled drinks. The Classic Philly Beef was okay. The beef wasn't sliced ribeye and honestly tasted like frozen beef that was defrosted and then heated up on the flat top. The philly wasn't rotten nor was it bad, but it wasn't outstanding. And for $14-$15 for an 8" sub, I feel it needs to be outstanding. Also, the bun/roll they used for their philly didn't hold up. It almost immediately fell apart and its contents (beef, grilled onions, grilled peppers, provolone) fell all over the place. I ate a good amount of my philly with a fork, so I wasn't able to enjoy it as a sandwich. The fries were decent - well cooked, so they were crispy. King's Philly is an okay cheesesteak option, but it's not a first-choice one. I was curious since they're new, but when/if I'm in the mood for a cheesesteak, I unfortunately will opt for another place. I will return, though, to try the oxtail and the salmon phillies. Maybe those will help me to become a regular, but the classic philly beef will take a backseat. Thank you, King's Philly! JV
