To be fair, the burger I ordered was one of the tastiest I've had in a long time. My only issue is how I got it. I ordered my burger and fries combo and I tipped on top of the order. The crew thanked me out loud. I was impressed. Then I was made to wait over half an hour while the call-in orders were flying out the door. I supposed was normal as long as my meal was hot. I received my burger afterward when I became outwardly frustrated about the wait time. The lady behind the counter called me "my love" then called my number and handed me my bag. I was polite said thank you and left. My burger and fries were both cold in the bag as if they were sitting behind the counter the whole time making me wait. I hoped the disdain they displayed during my wait was not because I was wearing a yarmulke and tzitzits. Perhaps this is the treatment you get for tipping. read more

This local little burger joint exceeded my expectations! The burgers are simple but DELICIOUS. We went on a week day around lunch time and everything was hot and fresh, the fries were nice and crispy. The double cheeseburger was bigger than expected, but nice and tender and well seasoned. Food is always quick and not particularly to my tastebuds but my adult sons seem to love this place and go when they're in the area. There isn't much to say for ambiance as it's a grab and go kinda place. I think the parking lot is designed poorly as I had trouble getting out of my spot as other larger vehicles were parked and with the angle of spots I had to maneuver and go through another spot. And tbh the 5 dollar milk shake (strawberry) was worth it I originally got that for my girl because I'm lactose intolerant but DIZAMN.... This place is really cool. It is what it is. Yes we know there is no seating inside, only benches outside, and yes you have to take a number and stand and wait for your food but you know what? Zack is a great employee I want to publicly thank the manager, Zack for personally making my burgers. He is very accommodating in getting my burger extra well done with out drying it out...sometimes when he is way too busy and working the checkout, it does not get done like i like it and he always makes good on the problem. He is the hardest worker i have ever seen and i just wish there were 5 Zacks working at Whataburger... Keep up the good work Zack and thanks again !!! Kenny in addition... I really liked the simplicity of this place!! It's definitely nothing fancy, but the food and service is awesome. You'll have to take your food with you or eat in your car as there's no where to sit and eat, but when you're on the go that works just fine :) I posted the menu photo so you guys can see how much they are :) read more

I'm rarely ever in Newport News but I was out with a friend of mine and she wanted to eat. Being the avid Yelp user that I am now I suggested checking Yelp to see what was in the area.. WhatABurger popped up and it sounded like an awesome place to get a burger so we went there. As soon as I stepped inside I was disappointed because there were no tables inside so I couldn't dine in and it was pretty small . I like to sit down in the establishment that I purchase my food from. The menu was posted near the ordering window Inside, it was pretty easy to understand. I ended up ordering the double cheese burger w/ fries. I was given a ticket number and waited for it to be called. It would've be nice if there were chairs around so that people can sit and wait until their number was called. The food was ready briefly after we ordered and since there in no place to eat Inside I decided to eat in the parking lot in my car (there are two picnic benches outside to eat at if u choose to) . There are no sandwich cartons just a sandwich wrapped in paper and put in a bag. Luckily I still had my empty pizza box from the slice of pizza I had earlier from 7 Eleven, I improvised and made my own table. The burger did nothing for me. The patties were flat and the buns were huge and shapeless to me. The fries were OK but I wish the burgers were seasoned better. I would've been better off getting a Double Cheeseburger from McDonalds. read more

So apparently this Whataburger is been there for decades. I stopped in to grab a burger and fries I can honestly say it was decent. It's definitely a dive. No place to sit down you walk in and place your orderand take your food to go and eat in your car or back at your job on your lunch break. Wasn't the best burger I've ever had but it was a solid Burger. To be honest this is unfair because I can make a pretty mean hamburger myself and it definitely felt like something I could have done at home. They have a nice little assembly line going. All the people complaining or saying the food isn't good or the service is bad are either on drugs or just being paid by competitors to trash the company. This place is awesome. Like all the little drive in places you find out in the country in North Carolina. My main comparison would be King Chicken. Same kinda old school carry out only service. Delicious food, much cheaper than the food you get from the chain places and the burgers are huge. The fries are great. The kinda crispy but fluffy on the inside crinkle cut fries.
