    Frigga with tots
    Jay T.

I've heard about Viking Burger for years from friends, but I rarely get down this way. But today is Hobbit Day and we're celebrating our anniversary, so an adventure seemed appropriate! They have a pretty extensive menu for a burger joint, with nine Valhallas (stuffed burgers), almost 2 dozen signature sandwiches (think patty melts), several regular burgers, hotdogs, and several sides including onion rings (they were out today), tots, several iterations of fries, and nachos. I ordered the Jana - a Valhalla stuffed with Swiss and Muenster cheeses and mushrooms, topped with a fried egg and "Viking Sauce," a sort of chili or meat sauce that seems to be made from turkey. It's huge- I practically had to unhinge my jaw like the Midgard Serpent to bite it! This is a $15 burger and it is well worth it. Understand that when they say "stuffed burger," it's basically two burgers with the stuffing squashed between them on a nice, big bun. I may not need to eat again today. My Bride got the Frigga sandwich - a beef patty with bacon, caramelized onion, Gouda cheese and grilled pineapple tidbits. At $11.50, it's reasonably priced, and must have been good- she wolfed it down like it was Tyr's hand. We opted for combos so we both got tater tots crispy enough to do ASMR videos with and drinks- they have both fountain and bottled drinks available. We had one of each. With Newport News' exorbitant meals tax, lunch came to $46 before tip. I'm not even mad about it- it was worth every penny. An excellent meal with some great customer service. I'm not likely to make the hour drive just to eat here, but I will certainly be back anytime I'm in town already and need to slay my hunger Viking style!

This is what I'm talking about when it comes to burgers! I mean golly. The flavors. The greatness. The cheese. The heart attack! Wow. I'm so happy going here because vikings are cool and their menu is based on that ! Small little place with a lot of flavor. Got the Muspelheim- spicy, juicy, thicc. SOLID 5/5

Still great! Can't resist stopping for lunch if we're nearby. Best burgers around. Small business, locally owned, friendly people, good service. If you eat here once, you will be back.

I read many amazing reviews on this place, so when I was in the area I stopped in and brought co-workers. We all tried a version of their Valhalla burger, which are their "stuffed" burgers, made in several different versions. I like spicy, so I ordered their Helheim and prior to committing to it, I asked a bunch of questions about the spice level and what their Spitfire sauce was all about. The guy working the counter was very helpful and friendly, he even went and got me a sample of their Spitfire sauce to try. It had amazing flavor, but it was HOT! I can handle lots of heat and this sauce was hot immediately and then stayed that way about 30 seconds and then got doubly hot! (I'm sweating right now thinking about the experience while I type this!). I asked him to put just a little bit of the sauce in the burger meat when they made it. He did warn us that this series (the Valhalla) of burger can take 15 - 20 minutes to make and he was right, I think we waited about 20 minutes. Once the food came out it all looked and smelled amazing! I immediately cut into the burger to see what the inside looked like and it was not only packed very nicely to ensure I got good flavor in each bite, but the doneness (temperature) of the meat itself was spot on! The bun was amazing, held together perfectly and tasted great! Nothing I've ever had before, I'm assuming from a local or special baker, or made for them. Their onion rings were great too. Overall, excellent all the way around... Highly suggest coming in to try their amazing burgers!

This place has good burgers & dogs. Everything is viking themed with viking decor throughout the small restaurant. Friendly staff. I can't really speak to the location as it was my first time in this town. I was here for a concert. It is located in a strip plaza of some sort. It was busy when I went for take out and dine-in on a Thursday. We got the Ragnar Double Burger, a chili dog (hot dog with viking sauce), and some tots. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

Have been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally took the opportunity. It's tucked into a strip plaza, and doesn't really have a lot of seating, but the place wasn't crowded when we arrived. It was pretty warm inside so the AC might have been down. It took the person a few minutes to get to us. We ordered our food, and got the combo but the drink situation is slim pickings if you don't want a fountain drink. The burgers are made to order and so there is a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. My husband and I ordered the Muspelheim which is one of their stuffed burgers. Stuffed with jalapeño's, onions, mushrooms, and ghost pepper cheese topped with an onion ring, cheese sauce and Viking sauce. The burger was about as big as a baseball and packed with flavor (a little messy to eat). My oldest ordered the Timoch which was stuffed with Mac and cheese and topped with lots of bacon. My youngest ordered the Odin which was topped with an onion ring and cheese and Viking sauce. My husband also got the Ragnarok which was a combo of tots, fries and onion rings topped with everything but the kitchen sink. There helping was very generous and everyone raved about their burger and we will definitely be back!

    Odin burger

My husband and I searched on Yelp for a quick place to grab lunch while visiting Newport News. We came across Viking Burger and it did not disappoint! We disappointed ourselves by not ordering a "stuffed Valhalla". The burgers were made to order fresh and delicious! Would return in a heartbeat!

It truly is a great twist on it and I love it. I did enjoy a hotdog with ketchup and mustard.hotdogs are an American staple I feel like, and Hot Dog King nailed these. They are simple, but a variety of toppings. I also had a side of fries. Their fries are nice, crispy and had a hint of grease, perfect. Angie brought out a sample of the BBQ and homemade coleslaw. I loved that she did that. I was nervous to try other things on the menu and she nailed it with a sample. The coleslaw was great. It was chopped up and a little runny, I like it just like that. The coleslaw was for sure packed with flavor. For me what would go well is some BBQ sauce. The funnel cake fries with a dusting of powder sugar so good! They can get hard if you get them to go because of the powder sugar. The shakes were creamy and made with soft serve. The corn dog, big and nice and crispy. The breading had a very mild sweet flavor and was cooked to perfection! Dipping that in mustard was the cherry on top. The interior had the whole hotdog theme down pat. Most surprising was the cost for a very good frankfurter- $2.95 with a long list of toppings included. I went with the traditional brown mustard, relish and grilled onion bits put together by the masterful cooks, and added a long squirt of ketchup. Onion rings on the side and Pepsi for cool washdown. It was all a snack that put a smile on my face and a warmth in my stomach. Just enough snap from the dog, and a terrific greasy taste from the house made 'yuns. All the while I watched the cooks do their thing behind the counter and listened to their fun interaction. I even had a chat with Mrs. Gus, who was happy to have a new customer she could convince to become a regular. Loved her Greek accent. But for the fact that I lived 6 hours away in Pennsylvania, I would no doubt be a loyal regular. Still, with family in town, I have yet another great reason to return as often as possible to chow down! Fries were thin and very good. Coleslaw had good flavor but was drenched and too wet for me. Food truck pricing has just gotten out of control and this is one of the worst I've experienced. It kind of ruined the experience of the place I was at. My suggestion to them is that a dinner has to be at least 3 bones. Or bump the price to $21 and do 4 bones. 2 bones needs to drop the price. I'd also use less coleslaw dressing. If value does not matter to you, the food is decent.
