Good variety of food to choose from, good service, never have any issues when I visit. Not a lot of seating inside of plenty outside. I usually order my food to go.

Hey y'all! I'm so glad that I went with my mom on this day ... Over to Hampton. And what is right straight across the street. Nothing but one of the best Philly's I've had in a long time the spot is called Philly Cheese Steak Cafe. This monster was huge and packed with meat, now my momma can be a little much when ordering she said to the guy taking our order... Make sure tell them load it up right nothing but meat and cheese and that man in the back did it up so right. Had me second guessing my choice now mind you that lol I got the fried fish I believe they only do Whitting but anyways. Once again that man in the back did the thing back up in there baby!!! That fish was so hot, fresh, and crispy crunchy goodness hunny. My mom and I were both kinda glad that we'd gotten different item's lol I know I was. The place it self is not huge but big enough to roll out some good azz food ya dig. lol the ambiance is very laid back no public restrooms I don't believe get your food and ride out kinda place. But please go and check them out it's so worth it you will have lunch, dinner, and maybe a late night snack depending on how your appetite feels. Oh the guy working the register was really nice also cool dude go check em out.

Whether it's with friends or just the two of us, we've never been disappointed. Let's see how this visit went. We were immediately seated once we walked inside. It wasn't completely packed for a Saturday afternoon but staff was really busy with customers. The vibe was one that made us comfortable for the most part. After a few minutes of looking over the menu, we were ready to order. My selection was the Tavern Monte Cristo which consisted of chargrilled chicken and ham as the protein with Gouda cheese and cider aioli fried in a tempura batter with tavern fries. The meal was served hot and ready and tasted great. And having the cranberry coulis as a dipping sauce really added some taste. My only gripe with the sandwich was the amount of protein. I'm not sure if I ate most of it when we dined in, but when I ate the rest for dinner, it was more breading than anything else. Still good but they could've included more. Nonetheless, I was full. Good stuff as always from Park Lane Tavern :)

I do wish they had a little better menu selection, for being advertised and recommended to me as African, this was the only dish that was close to. i was hoping for some Doro Wat, or Moambe Chicken, Injera, Braai, Pap en Vleis, Bobotie , Chapati/Mandazi, Nyama Choma, or even some Kitfo. they had none of these things, so I ended up wanting the Ox-Tail Pasta, aka Rasta Pasta. Its only available on certain days. so I actually had to come back for this, and I did. It Was tasty 4 large pieces and 3 tail end tip pieces. It was Large enough that I can probably get 3 meals from this at my portions. Price was little more than wanted but would come back again, just not regularly. I rank my decisions to eat somewhere again as: 1 star - if someone else buys it I won't eat it, I would rather go hungry. 2 star - if I'm hungry, no other options are open and someone buys it - I would consider eating it 3 star - I'm ok with eating it as long as someone else pays 4 star - I will eat again and pay for it and be a semi-regular customer 5 star - I will travel for good food and pay good money and be back on a regular basis and maybe even pay for yours just so we can go

Unfortunately, over time the experience has slowly declined. Food quality: The seafood just isn't prepared with the same care it once was. Flavors feel less fresh, and the overall execution has slipped. Service: Staff used to be attentive and welcoming, but now service feels inconsistent and less polished. Presentation: Even the way dishes are plated has gone downhill, which takes away from the enjoyment of the meal. Highlights: Oyster nights are still fun, and I do enjoy trying new varieties when they're available. That tradition keeps me coming back occasionally. Consistency & value: As someone who has lived in Newport News for over 20 years and been a regular here, I look for consistency and good value. Sadly, Harpoon Larry's no longer delivers on those fronts. Overall, while Harpoon Larry's still has its moments, especially on oyster nights, it's hard to recommend it as a regular go-to spot anymore.

This past weekend, I visited, and it happened to be Restaurant Week. My go-to meal is their crab cake sandwich and fries, but I ventured out and tried their special: New England Clam Chowder and Seafood Mac and Cheese. The chowder was okay. The clams were a little chewy and it lacked flavor; needed a few more dashes of salt at the least. The seafood Mac and Cheese had potential. The crab meat on top looked enticing. The noodles were cooked to perfection. But the flavor was also lacking. It was not cheesy enough to call a Mac and cheese and again needed more salt and/or other seasonings. There also wasn't much seafood to boast about. Maybe a scallop or 2, a very small quantity of shrimp....the crab meat and roll were the highlight. 3 STARS (for this visit). The service was GREAT! Attentive, fast, and friendly. But I was disappointed with this dish. I'll be back. I'll get my crab cake!

We opted for the outdoors as we had a quick glimpse of sun on this rare April day, and got to sit under the umbrella patio. Our waitress was super accommodating and brought us our four oysters and tuna salad with shoestring french fries very quickly. My daughter ordered the fried fish sandwich that had melty cheese and some tartar sauce on it. It was a solid sandwich, nothing to write home about, but definitely gave us a beach ocean feel vibe. Four oyster sampler went from sweet to salty and didn't disappoint! They were fresh. They were cold and they had a great minionette and spicy horseradish to accompany.

It's just a horrible experience as is. They need to go to Precarious and see how they do it. Their food is generally good to great. They have a $5 before 5 app and drink special menu that is a really good deal. Nice spot for adults to have some drinks. Just be patient as service is generally slow. Now onto my recent experience.... I suggested it to some friends who wanted to grab some beers on MLK day which was a Monday. There were 4 of us guys and 7 kids. It's a lot. I get it. They weren't overly busy. Maybe a quarter full. I tried to keep the kids away from other tables by giving them boundaries. They were not happy with us. They didn't like the kids being outside in their patio (freezing, no one out there) etc. The one server was getting destroyed. She had just like 6 tables, but a 16 top. I felt badly for her. Our drinks correspondingly took about 20-30 minutes each time we tried to order. She was nice when she could get to us. At one point a person who said they were a manager, I think she said her name was Hannah, came over and said the kids couldn't be going around (again, I had boundaries not by any other patrons etc. from what I could see they were honoring them, but who knows), anyway she asked if we could keep them by us, which is fine. I then asked her if I could put in a beer and app order as I had been waiting for our server with an empty beer for at least 20 minutes. Instead of taking the order and ringing it in, she said she'd send the server over and disappeared never to be seen again. 5 minutes Iater the server was able to get free from her big table and get our beer orders and food in. Several items were forgot, but at this point we were kind of over it. Just not really your typical relaxed brewery vibe. Felt like they wanted it to be more of a sit down restaurant. That big long story to say it's not a spot for kids. Overall food and drinks are solid. Beer is solidly middle of the pack for Peninsula. Management needs some work.

My eyes were definitely wide because I wanted to try everything. I opted for the big cat samwich, shrimp basket for mini me since he eat like a grow person, a side order of oysters, fried clams, and a crab cake. Took about 20 mins but didn't mind. Liked all the TV's with different things to watch. Created a chill atmosphere. Once the food came out, I was ready to go in. The big cat samwich was massive. Loaded with catfish, lettuce, and tomato. The bun was incredibly soft but didn't break from everything. The fish was seasoned nice and had a good crunch. Some hot sauce and tartar sauce made everything complete. Highly recommend. Had some shrimp off my son plate and they were big, lightly battered and seasoned well. I was hesitant to order the crab cake because it was fried and really didn't look appetizing from the picture. Didn't get that lump crab cake like I'm used too. Not something I would probably order again but if fried crab cakes are your thing, give it a shot. The oysters were good and would have been great in a poboy. The clams were fried well but not my favorite. Overall, this is a place I would definitely get my seafood fix if I lived across the water.
