I toyed with ideas of the most non nutritious food to order because I felt I deserved it. Something comforting. I decided on a Philly cheesesteak and fries. This was my first time ordering from Pappa Geno's, but I have considered it before. I was going to order from Miller's Cafe because I like theirs, but I get much more from Pappa Geno's. I like that their cheesesteaks are traditional footlong size on a soft hoagie. The Pappa Geno's steak and cheese was filled with thinly sliced steak, melted cheese and mayo. I added mushrooms to mine. They wrap it up in foil paper to keep it nice and warm. If you're really hungry, you can eat the whole thing. If not, you can eat half of it and save the other half for later. The meat was seasoned and on the moist side compared to others. I've been to both rival cheesesteak places (Geno's and Pat's) in Philly, and I thought this was a nice alternative for Houston to have. I think I still prefer the thinly sliced steak flavor from Miller's Cafe. The side of fries are crispy with almost a breading on the exterior. Same fries as Piper's Cantina, if you've ever been. I'm not that into breaded fries like these, but it was good and was a large portion. The sandwich itself is on the pricier side but a decent portion. I'd like to try their other Philly cheesesteak options or add hot oil peppers like the Wicked Philly. Pappa Geno's is a great option if you want a more authentic Philly cheesesteak fix.

Pat's and Gino's are a high A.... Tastee is a solid mid B. STILL GOOD. Would I go back? Yup. This is probably a good once a month kind of place. Minor gripe. Bread could be better. Different Kinds of Cheesesteaks--This One Deserves Its Own Lane…read more I think people really need to acknowledge that there are different types of cheesesteaks. Not all of them are made to be compared--some are just totally different styles, and that's not a bad thing. I've been wanting to try this spot for a while after seeing the debates about who has the best cheesesteak in Houston. The only thing that held me back was the location. I finally made the trip--and I'm glad I did. First off: customer service. Let's be real--food trucks sometimes don't deliver on this, but that was not the case here. Super friendly and attentive. It made a big difference. What I tried: * Chicken cheesesteak with shrimp - Delicious. Messy, cheesy, and indulgent. If you're someone who likes your cheesesteaks loaded with toppings like lettuce or tomato, this might not be your thing. But if you're into a bold, no-frills kind of sub? You'll love it. * Philly steak eggroll - Fire. * Fries - These were wild. Battered like fried chicken, perfectly crispy. I might honestly come back just for the fries. * Corned beef - Served Midwest-style, and the meat was on point. Tender and flavorful. Bottom line: I really enjoyed this place. It's not trying to be like everyone else--and that's exactly why it works. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd absolutely return.

The sandwiches are amazing. I always get the cheese delight, and whatever spices they put on it always have me craving another one. My husband loves the cheesesteaks. He had to stay at the hospital down the street a few nights, and he did not argue when I wanted to go back. They have French fries, but I didn't get them because I thought they would be cold by the time I got back to my husband's room. The kicker? There is an all the time deal that is buy two sandwiches, get the second half off, which brings the price of two sandwiches to only $9.67 before tip!!! Tip well, you can't eat fast food for this price. This is my most dreamed about sub, ever since Rocky's closed.

I appreciated that he told us up front before we placed and paid for our order. You can tell this is a good local spot to go to, because they weren't slammed, but they had a consistent flow of people coming in, and everyone was super patient waiting for their food, which, in today's time, people are super impatient. The customer service was really great. When our orders came up, it was before the time he gave us, so that was great also! The hoagies came out hot and fresh! The bread really does a number on this sandwich, because it is light, airy, has a good chew to it, AND, holds together as you make your way through the sandwich. The meat was seasoned nicely and was tender. I had onions, bell peppers, lettuce and mayo on mine. I think next time I'll add some jalapenos too for a little bit of kick. The fries were super hot too, would be good to have a good little dipping sauce for those. All in all, solid hoagie!

My order is perfection: Italian with vinegar & oil, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and hot peppers. The Italian comes with prosciutto, hot capicola, genoa salami, and provolone cheese. The signature seeded bread is tasty all on its own, but also crusty enough to hold up to the mayo/vinegar/oil situation happening inside. Adding hot peppers gives it just the right amount of kick to keep things interesting. And even though the sandwich is basically as long as my forearm, it never feels overly heavy or dense while you're eating it. I always tell myself I'll just eat half. Next thing you know, I've devoured the whole thing and I'm sitting there pretending to be shocked. Their sandwiches are simple in the best way. No gimmicks, no unnecessary frills, just good bread, good meats, and the right balance of oil, vinegar, crunch, spice, and salt. Houston has plenty of great food, but a proper hoagie is not always easy to find. PrimoHoagies scratches that itch perfectly. The inside definitely has a Cajun feel to it with the decor; very Louisiana. I was greeted and made the 4th quarter decision to get a muffuleta, chips and a canned pop. So when I decided to give Angelo Z's a try, I came in hopeful but ready to judge with the precision of a seasoned shrimp connoisseur. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the place is designed beautifully. Clean, inviting, well thought-out décor. The staff? Top-notch. Friendly smiles, fast service -- the kind of welcome that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile. But then my shrimp po'boy arrived. And that's where things took a turn. The bread was toasted -- yes, toasted -- which, for a Louisiana po'boy, is already a red flag. To make matters worse, it wasn't even the traditional French bread that's light, airy inside, and has that delicate crackle on the crust. Instead, it was a dense, over-toasted loaf that crunched like I was chewing on a roofing shingle. Then came the real deal-breaker: I bit in and realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. At all. And for anyone who knows seafood, that black line running down the back isn't some "seasoning" -- it's grit and waste. One glance at that and my appetite clocked out. I understand I'm not in Louisiana anymore, and I'm all for creative spins on classics, but there's a line between "putting your own twist" on something and missing the fundamentals altogether. Unfortunately, this missed the mark in a way I couldn't overlook. Beautiful space. Wonderful people. But for me? A shrimp po'boy that isn't deveined, on the wrong bread, and toasted into oblivion isn't a po'boy worth coming back for.
