    Love the outdoor dining space!

The other days I was on the Metro 45 on Hempstead I spotted this place and knew I had to check it out...especially when I saw how long it had been since a Yelp Review of the joint. For a person who does not drive the Metro 45 goes right to it with a stop at Campbell rd. Don't let the look of the place, and the rundown parking, scare you off... The menu is large and varied, including separate breakfast sandwich and burger specials...and some higher prices than when last reviewed. I love the wooden picnic benches for outdoor dining. The $7 Cheeseburger Special and the Chicken Burger were tasty. The place is still cash only, so be sure to double check your change, when given back, because the nice lady running the place appears to have math issues. :-D As an added bonus, for the curious, the Fairbanks Cemetery (since 1897) is around the corner on Stonington.

I've passed this place day after day and finally decided to stop. You walk up to the window place your order and you can take it to go or eat within the outdoor seating area. The prices are reasonable and it's CASH ONLY. I ordered a single burger with fries and it was delicious. I'm a huge fan of old fashioned burger joint and this did not disappoint. I will be visiting again in the near future.

For the love of God! Avoid this place at all costs!! I drive by this place almost on a daily basis. There's only outdoor seating and I don't ever see anyone dining here. If there were anyone, probably one or two customers at most. In my never ending quest of finding the next "OMG! How come I didn't know about this place" burger joint, me and a co-worker foolishly decided to try this place out. BIG MISTAKE! And I will tell you why. You have to order at the window and there are menus attached to both sides of the window. One menu is for their combo specials and the other is for a la carte. While we were looking at the menu and we were going to ask questions about the menu; the lady at the window cut us off before we could say anything and said very rudely, "Before you order, for this (points at combo menu), add $1 to everything. And for this (points at a la carte menu), add $0.50 to everything!" Oooo-kaay... umm.. fine, whatever. My co-worker then proceeded and asked her, "what are y'all known for here?" She didn't answer and grabbed a piece of paper from behind the counter and literally slammed it in front of us without saying anything. We looked over what was on that piece of paper and it was pretty much their "special." Get a hamburger, fries, and drink for $5. Yup. That's it. While we were talking about what to get, she rudely grabbed that piece of paper from in front of us and put it back behind the counter and said, "I need this. This is my last one!" Umm... fine. Keep it. At this point, my co-worker told me that he felt like he was at the soup nazi place out of Seinfeld. Well, we placed our orders and my co-worker tried to make small talk again because that's just how he is and he was trying to be friendly. He said, "So, how long have y'all been in business?" She grabbed the same piece of paper that had been taken away and slammed it back in front of us and said, "read again!" On the right side of that piece of paper, there's a little stamp with the restaurant's name on it, phone number and a small print below it that stated that the restaurant had been in business for over 30 years. Ooookay... we didn't see it because we were too busy looking at the menu and because that piece of paper was rudely taken away in the first place, lady!!! Sheesh. Anyway, we ordered a cheeseburger combo and a beef teriyaki combo. The beef teriyaki combo came with fried rice (bleh tasting), fries, and salad. the beef teriyaki wasn' too bad but it needed more teriyaki sauce. It was too dry. As for the cheeseburger, it was barely average. Seriously. I mean, with the kind of attitude the owner was giving out, I was hoping that at least the burger was going to be one of the best burgers I've ever had. But nope. NOT EVEN CLOSE! And this place wasn't cheap either. For those two combos and a drink, we spent over $20! Not something I'd like to spend at a run down place like this. And, during the time we were waiting for our food, there were other customers who came and went (most ordered to go) and I don't think I heard her tell any of them about the additional $1 or $0.50 on the menu prices. WHAT THE F, LADY?! Nope, not coming back. EVER. Not even if my meals were free. I suggest you do the same. P.S. they sell buckets for $2 each. Seriously.

Great little spot, support small business. Friendly service, each order made fresh. Open for breakfast at 6AM. Free smile with every order- something you don't get at big chains.

Burger special and onion rings, yum!! Served with a medium lemonade (country time-ish), refreshing.

Their selection of meats and sides is really above average compared to a lot of places. Every side I've tried here I've actually liked. They use Martin's bread, and they'll give you your accoutrements like pickles, escabeche, and the like. If you like those, make sure you ask for extra up front -- there's no stand to go grab them later, so you've got to get them when you go through the line. Large seating area with many large tables and a full service bar. The seating does get a little filled up when they are busy. I suggest coming early and being in line before doors open. Brisket: 4.5/5 Sausage: 5/5 Turkey Brest: 5/5 Escabeche & picadillo sides:5/5 Barbecue sauce: 4.5/5 Tater tot casserole:5/5 Mac & cheese:4/5 It's pretty consistent -- out of all the times I've been, there was only once where I was a little let down by the brisket. But in general it's top notch, probably the best you're going to get in Houston. Would recommend and return.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service is also great! While we were eating, staff would regularly check all of the tables to check if anyone needed anything. The staff taking our order also chatted with us about other BBQ spots we've been to. Everything was such a great experience and the quality of the food is 100/10!

We went on a Saturday and showed up around 10:45, the line was definitely long and our wait was about 45 minutes. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. My fiancée is a lover of BBQ so he wanted to order almost everything on the menu. We ordered brisket, garlic sausage, pork ribs, the whole chicken, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and apple cobbler. My favorites were the pork ribs and apple cobblers. His favorites were the ribs, brisket, cobbler, and baked beans. I loved the cobbler so much I placed an additional order to go.

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant while staying at a hotel in Houston for medical treatments. We had it delivered to our hotel and sadly it wasn't the best experience. When we got our order to the room we were missing one side that we ordered. We got Mac n cheese, green beans and potato salad with a brisket/smoked chicken combo and a brisket/ribs. I was shocked to see two pieces of brisket and a chicken breast for $28. Maybe it was an off night but the quality just wasn't there. All the food was cold (our fault bc we ordered it for delivery) and was lacking flavor. Overall, we'd rate it like this: Brisket 3/5 Chicken 2/5 Mac n cheese 1.5/5 Green beans 3/5 Ribs 3/5 Potato salad 2/5 Maybe they were having a bad night but I wish our experience was better.

My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.
