I ordered the The phili cheesesteak but I wanted was what was pictured on there display (old school phili) when mine came out I realized I ordered the wrong sandwich. I didnt want the sandwich I got so I paid again for the right sandwich and had them throw away the other sandwich. When my sandwich came out they also handed me back the money I spent for the sandwich. They didnt have to. It was my fault but they did. The food is good but now they don't allow free refills like other places in the food court. There's no sign stating policy has changed to no free refills unlike before where you could get one free refill. The staff is rude and corporate doesn't care as I've written numerous complaints about the rudeness of the staff. Now I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

We don't often go to Charley's Cheesesteaks, located at the Meadowood Mall food court but my niece and I were in the area and it turns out they have chicken wings as well as cheesesteaks on the menu; so, we decided to order a serving of chicken wings and fries to go. I'm reporting about Charley's Cheesesteaks in Reno mall. They claim to be worlds greatest cheesesteaks. As a person who has been to Philadelphia a few times (definitely recommend visiting during the 4th of July) I have to say that this place leaves a few things to be desired. First the meat is plentiful. I mean the bread could hardly wrap around it. If you're going to fry meat and cheese together it's going to be moist. On the east coast bread is kind of their thing. There's definitely more bread than steak in their sandwiches and the seasoning saltiness is more from the cheese than anything added to the steak. Cheese wiz for the connoisseur. There's just too much going on at Charley's. Now to be fair, it's not a bad choice is you want to fill up on protein. It may be the best cheesesteak in that food court. May also be the best cheesesteak in the meadowood mall. But I'm betting it's not exactly the best cheesesteak on the McCarran loop, or even Reno. False advertising. It's like trying to say you sell the best cheesecake but if you're not in New York I'd begin to have my doubts. Interesting experience but certainly not the best in the world. read more

From the moment I walked up to order my food, I was greeted right away by one of the friendliest employees! Ryan took care of me from the very beginning and helped me with what to order. It was my first time eating here so I wasn't sure what to try. He recommended that I try the "Steak Philly Cheesesteak" and let me tell you, it was super tasty! This place offers the only cheesesteak option in the food court at the Meadowood Mall, so the business is great for variety and, I must say, I love a good cheesesteak. They have several options for different kinds of cheesesteak sandwiches, so that's great also. I ordered the BBQ cheddar cheesesteak and it was delicious. However, I feel bad for the people working here. It's obvious that they don't enjoy what they do, which is why the customer service sucks. The cashier had a very flat personality and uninspiring attitude, and was ready to move me along as soon as I paid. I expected to be able to leave a tip on my receipt, but surprisingly, the receipt was one and done and the cashier made no attempt to make it easier for me to tip, nor did I find a collection bin to do so with. The cook, a big, black guy, was at the grill cooking up the orders, but save for the fact that he was facing us, I'm not sure he even knew we were there. He never smiled once, nor acknowledged us right in front of him (the grill is part of the counter facing the customers). I was a little disappointed in my order. I ordered a BBQ cheddar cheesesteak, but noticed that it was not a real slice of cheddar cheese put on the steak, but instead, it was shredded cheese sprinkled on top. Any excitement I had for my cheesesteak was halved at that moment. There is an older lady who works at the end of the counter to distribute orders. Her personality was a little more upbeat and she was probably the best part of the customer service experience, but even then, it was lacking. I know I love my job and I go above and beyond to do a great job for my clients, so it really just breaks my heart to see someone doing a job they don't love, and doing it without cause for care. The Lady and I have been regulars at Charley's since they arrived in Reno around 2008 (they had a location in the Summit Sierra mall). That location closed fairly quickly due to what the owners stated was exorbitant rent due at the mall (somewhere around $3000 a month). They then opened up shop in the Carson mall and have been there ever since. When we found out that a new location was opening in the mall down the street from where we lived, we were so happy! Basically, this place has one of the best hot subs in town. Go there now and get a sandwich!! Everything is freshly grilled in front of you (unlike some other places where they come pre-made in little tubs) and they have a myriad of extras to put on top of the subs. Ruh roh. Charley's apparently rolled out some new prep method, where you choose your veggies a la Subway after the meat is grilled. That's not a bad idea, but they also now chuck a slice of cheese over top of everything at the end of the process instead of melting it with the meat as it grills. Can't believe a cheesesteak specialty outfit with years of experience would make such a boner move. It leads to a sandwich that's half an overdose of half-melted cheese on top, and zero cheese whatsoever at the bottom. It's terrible. Gotta de-list Charley's from the recommendations until they get over this brainfart and remember their cheesesteak fundamentals. read more

Wow! I didn't even know these guys existed! Great food, and freshly cooked right in front of you, no microwave meat here! (Hehem, SUBWAY ). The cashier was friendly and enthusiastic about the chain, and even told me where I could find locations in my hometown, since we were traveling. They were patient and got all our orders correct the first time. Helpful informative information about the chain and how it started without being uncomfortably/awkwardly over-chatty. This place is so unorganized. And it's the manager that's the problem. On three separate occasions she has served me with the rudest possible demeanor, and managed to screw up my order all 3 times. Once my brother and I waited patiently for 6 minutes while she was busy training someone in the back. We said nothing. I've worked customer service. I understand. But when she came out to "greet" us she very curtly said "Look I was training someone. Can only do one thing at a time. That's what it is, and thats how it is." From the "You Can't Make This Up" Dept. I ask for a small (4") sandwich. I'm told "we're out of small, all we have is largfe (9")." I asked why they couldn't cut the bread size down, but that was over their head. Soooo..I drive over to Port O' Subs, and again ask for a small sandwich (their's are also 4"). I ate here recently in the mall and found it to be pretty good! They have friendly staff. During weekends, they have a staff member providing samples, including California chicken sandwich which was quite tasty, with grilled chicken and a ranch sauce in a tasty composition. The sandwiches are uniquely lean for a sandwich place, not putting in a ton of meat and by grilling them they make the insides a little moist which makes for nice texture. I had half of a barbecue chicken sandwich, pulled pork style and some fries that were pretty cool because they are cut from an unskinned potato so you get the nice texture and flavor from the skin. I'd definitely eat here again even though meat portions weren't massive, there was a good 5 oz. in half a sandwich. Prices are a little bit on a high side for what you get, but it is nice and helps a little for a guy concerned with portion control. read more

Very bad representation of the franchise. Cold customer service and no attention to quality. Order the bacon 3 cheese 12" large fries and drink. $14. I had to tell the worker to please remove the core of lettuce from the sandwich, as he was making it due to it being black and wilted.
