The Urban Deli is tucked in the back corner of a relatively quiet shopping center which is sometimes why I forget about this sandwich shop. Every now and then I am craving a simple and filling sandwich which is when The Urban Deli comes to the front of my mind, especially on the weekend when other sandwich shops seem to be closed. All the sandwiches are named after local streets--so fun! My personal favorite is The Idlewild! The ingredients are fresh, and the sandwich is assembled thoughtfully. I usually make my meal a combo which includes a small bag of chips (my go-to is the Maui Onion flavor) and a basic drink from the left side of the cooler. I do not like Pepsi, so I usually choose a can of Waterloo. If you join the loyalty program, you get $5 off on your birthday. I appreciate the loyalty rewards, but the real loyalty comes from the quality and the service. The folks working are always pleasant and prompt. First time checking out this place. We kept hearing about it and finally made our way over. Cute place in the Sierra Meadows Plaza. Some outdoor seating and indoor seating. Tucked away on south Virginia street if you're looking for a quick bite. We ordered the kietzke and the pyramid. Must like horseradish because the kietzke is very horseradish forward. The pyramid is a tuna melt and it was delish! Almost comfort food vibe. Each sandwich comes on a specific type of bread and you have to pay an extra 0.20 cents if you want to change that bread to something else. No big deal but I've never encountered that before. This is a new sandwich spot favorite! I didn't even know it was here. I came in for a Yelp Elite event, and I am so glad I did! The menu is clearly displayed above the counter and the selection for curated sandwiches is top notch. I ordered an Double R, which normally comes on marbled rye, but I was able to substitute gluten-free bread. This sandwich was bomb! It was loaded with melted swiss, pastrami, cabbage, and russian dressing. I was very pleased with the size of the sandwich for the price, it was just right. The gluten-free bread is well made, and not small like other places in town. So I have been on a sandwich kick lately and the Urban Deli has been on my places to try. Service was great , greeted as I entered. Took me a min to decide because they all sounded so good . I went with The Lakeside . Turkey , Bacon , Pepper Jack , lettuce , tomato, chipotle mayo on a Lightly toasted sourdough Bread . This was a really good sandwich. The bread was lightly toasted just right. Turkey was very flavorful. My only draw back was it didn't seem like it had the bacon on it unless it was smaller pieces. I just didn't notice it in the sandwich at all. Other than that Everything else was great. Great ambiance with some 90's hip hop playing which was cool . The Deli was very clean as well. Great food, great staff, and a slightly hidden location off of Virginia Street in the back of the mall. I really can't speak highly enough about the amazing quality of the food and the freshness of the Dutch crunch bread which was just over the top. Perfect balance between bread, meat and veggies. A lovely lovely experience and a perfect deli sandwich. So grateful to get to participate in special yelp events, such as this, especially because I get to meet so many great small business people who are really knocking it out of the park. We got our sandwiches to go but unfortunately were not impressed. Bread can make or break a sandwich and unfortunately the bread really fell flat here. We normally like to go out to delis because their sandwiches taste like something we can't make at home-- that wasn't the case here. The breads didn't taste freshly baked and had us even wondering if they were just grocery store breads. We really wanted to like this place but I don't think we'll be going back because the sandwiches we got felt like something we could replicate at home. We wanted to try something new and may I say, what a SANDWICH! I ordered the make your own and woweee. This sandwich was giant and fully of flavor. My son had the Idlewild warm. So YUMMY! They even have a complementary brookie. We liked the menu item names, all things Reno. Nice touch. read more

I love the Urban Deli because it is one of the few local sandwich shops that are actually open on Saturdays. The spot is easy to find, there is ample parking, and the dining area is spacious and clean. Given the size of the space, they could probably add even more seating. There's been times when we've had to wait for a table to open during rush hours. The service is always friendly but could be fast or slow depending on who is making your food. Prices are also a bit higher than other local delis. However, I'm willing to pay a little extra to support a small business that has delicious food and is open on a Saturday. Everything we have tried has been good, and any deli that carries Dutch crunch as a bread option wins my vote. The one thing I'd like to see in the future are more options for chips and drinks. read more

Today we tried the Urban DelI restaurant on South Virginia St. Reno, Nv. We were very impressed with the great food, the kind and helpful staff, and the cleanliness of this great deli. I hear it's been there a while, but this was the first time I tried it and we enjoyed it very much. I split the Virginia sandwich with my husband and it was plenty for both of us. Also got some chips and a soda. The owner was very nice and I talk with to him for a little bit, and told him I would love to have a deli like this in Sparks, Nv. Can't wait to return and try a different sandwich. Probably a whole one this time. They have many on their menu and they all looked tasty. It is a bit hard to to find but it's in a very nice shopping center close to Dolan Lexus. Urban Deli in South Reno is an absolute hidden gem! Tucked back in the corner of the Bistro 7 parking lot lies this incredibly tasty sandwich shop. I stopped in for lunch with my wife and had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich -- hands down one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly crafted, just the right amount of heat, and loaded with a ton flavor. You can really tell they care about quality and consistency. I believe the owner was working the register that day and she informed us they've been serving Reno for 6 years now, and it's no surprise they've built such a loyal following. Headed to S Reno and decided to try a new place, new to me that is. Saw the sign and pulled into the shopping center. Yelp reviews were good so I knew it would be worth it. Many different sandwiches on the menu board named after Reno streets or you may build your own. Also a couple of salads. Today I chose the Kietzke, roast beef with horseradish sauce, onion, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. The horseradish really ups the ante for this sandwich. Not blow your head off but great flavor. The bread is Dutch crunch. I didn't know what that was but I'm a fan! The Kietzke was warm and fresh. Definitely would have it again. About half way through the sandwich the man that took my order stepped over and asked how it tasted. Very good for sure. Many take away or delivery orders happened while I ate. Owners Lou & April are still running the place themselves. Said they were doing great. Sandwiches start at $11.50 (not a bad price) add chips and a drink for an additional $3.75. They've also got a couple of salads, and it looks like they've got a pannini option. Also, the best brownies I've had in a long time. Have to admit they make the best Pastrami Rueben in Reno. Ruebens can be made with corned beef or pastrami .. I sooooo prefer pastrami. But, Lou, you still don't have any pickles (gotta have a pickle with a deli sandwich). They were also able to give us suggestions (both of which turned out great). I had a turkey sandwich with some chipolte mayo sauce on sour dough toasted. It was warm flavorful goodness! We sat outside. At lunch it's got shade and in the evening too. It's far enough from Virginia st to be quiet and relaxing. I love me some sammiches and this little place is tucked back out of sight into an old strip mall and it's a hidden gem for sure. I stopped on a whim not knowing anything about it and at first I apprehensive but it turned out great! The sandwiches are all very fresh on soft breads stacked high with fresh sliced meats, cheeses, and veggies. The only downside was that when I was expecting a cold bite, it turned out to be warmed up and that wasn't stated on the menu.
