This is the place that every other crab shack, clam pit and lobster hole is trying to be but can never become: a local, friendly, no-frills seafood joint with great food and a fun atmosphere. I ducked in on a crowded Saturday night back in February and there was a 30-minute wait for a table, but since I was flying a solo mission I took advantage of an empty seat at the bar, which afforded me quick access to the booze and a peek into the inner workings of the Charlie Horse. I soon realized there were many regulars present and they were treated like good friends by the staff; not because a parent corporation was trying to exude the ambiance of friendliness but because they were, in fact, actually friendly. The food was good, served in a timely fashion and reasonably priced. I had a crab legs/shrimp combo that was simple but cooked well and fresh-tasting. Always a hit! My fiancee and I come here often, and always leave satisfied. The crab legs are the best I've found around town so far. We always get the all you can eat crabs of the crab and shrimp combo. Both well worth it. Food always comes out hot and delicious. My fiancee always orders the crab bisque, and we also share the crab cake bites (best we've found). The potatoes and cole slaw are awesome too. We went here last week on a quick trip to Daytona Beach. Great place to eat. We got there at about 5:30 PM and where glad we did. When we left, there was a line waiting to get in. And this is in the off season. Their all you can eat crab legs went up in price. They were 29.99 for all you can eat, but they allowed us to start with one pound and go up to all you can eat if you want. The crab was awesome! My wife and I started off with a pound of peel and eat shrimp. VERY good. Well cooked, great texture and taste. We had for dinner the Gumbo and Chili. The gumbo was a little soupier than I am used to, but the taste was awesome. The Chili had a few too many beans, but the taste was very good. Their kids menu was also very good and our kids ate everything. All in all, a VERY good restaurant with a bar attached. (or is it a bar with a restaurant attached?) This was first trip to Charlie Horse in awhile to do a pick up order. The wings were delicious even after a drive home. The restaurant though was overly packed with no social distancing. I ordered pickup to avoid sitting with large groups and had I known I would have to go into the middle of the restaurant to pick up and would have been bumped into many times I would have forgone the order. I should have left but felt guilty making an order and didn't want to not pay. I realize some people are ok with this- but for those who are still practicing social distance this is not the place to even get takeout. read more

My husband was a little skeptical to go there because of the price of the all you can eat Crab Legs. At some point he caved to my crab leg craving (even though they are his favorite seafood too) and we went. THEY WERE AWESOME! WORTH EVERY PENNY! Our server was the owners son. He was incredible. On top of everything the whole time we were there(2hours) . Very attentive to us. We are restaurant owners ourselves in North Alabama and we pride ourselves on great food and outstanding service and we expect the same when we go to other restaurants. Word on the A1A is Charlie horse has the best crab legs so we my family of four decided to try it out. We arrived at 7:00 on a Saturday night, there was a 30 minute wait. It's not a fancy atmosphere but packed! Locals and vacationers dining. We saw the janitor from our hotel eating crab legs so took that as a good sign. My eyes wanted all you can eat crab legs but my stomach wasn't sure I could handle that much. Our awesome waitress said we could start with the 1.5lbs and upgrade to all you can eat later if wanted. We started with ice tea and steamed shrimp. So good! The tea was really good I couldn't get enough and I haven't had steamed shrimp that good in a long time. My daughter and I both got 1.5 lb crab legs each and we devoured them! It was plenty so no need to upgrade. My husband ordered ribs- meh they were dry but the sauce was good. This was a spur of the moment lunch for us and I don't think it could have been better! The mini crab cakes appetizer was great and my fried fish sandwich was so good I couldn't risk diluting it with the bun so I ate the generous filet alone. My companions also enjoyed the shrimp Po Boy and the Philly Cheese Steak. The fries were good and home-made tartar and cocktail sauce enhanced everything. $5 gold margaritas were also yummy. WOWZERS! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My family and I own a condo across the street from this place and we are addicted to this place. The have the best crab legs, wings and fried corn nuggets ever! They use to only have beer and wine, but they now have a full service bar as well. It's your basic biker bar with pub food, but they know how to cook! They even have game machines and pool tables. What made us go here was we stopped at Peppers (a Mexican Restraunt) and it smelled so good we skipped the Mexican Restraunt and are here instead. She recommended the Cajun seasoning on our fish and when it came it was mouth watering. Perfect! 3 people in my group had the fish Reuben sandwich. They could not believe how great it tasted. I had the fish of the day which ended up being Pangasius. I also had the Cajun seasoning and it was excellent! My daughters had the steak and cheese and the other 10 wings. My first Daytona bike week experience and the best restaurant is found in nearby Ormond Beach. $2 - $3 draft beer...say what? how awesome is that? Service was quick and spot on with only one small minor fluke. Crab bisque was hot, flavorful, consistently right. Fried shrimp was big and fresh. Ribeye was perfectly cooked to medium rare although it needed a bit more seasoning. Mashed potatoes had the skin mixed in and definitely had that homemade taste. Coleslaw was refreshing. The only fluke was that our New England clam chowder was warm and not hot. Our server was honest and admitted she wasn't mindful in placing it in the microwave before giving it to us. Dropped by this restaurant after seeing their ads at the local resort while on vacation. Was drawn by the snow crab and seafood options. The good: - Snow crabs (market price) were absolutely delicious and very affordable. The butter sauce and lemon was wonderful. We got 4 clusters for ~15$. - Large variety of entrees at reasonable prices (~10$). - Large selection of cocktails and alcoholic drinks at affordable prices. - Ambiance of the restaurant is very familial, casual, and friendly. - Staff and service were friendly and adequate. - Pastas are quite good; I tried the linguine with a rich alfredo sauce. - All-you-can-eat snow crabs are available (at market price, ~35$+). The not-so-good: - Limited parking spaces, especially during dinner rush hours. - Both the grilled fish and cajun-style fish were overpowering in their spices and saltiness. It ruined an otherwise very nice piece of fish. - Limited veggie options; most side-dishes (rice, potatoes, etc.) are lackluster. Bottom line: A very decent restaurant with a vibrant and casual ambiance that serves delicious snow crabs at reasonable market prices. The food was very good. The best cooked piece of fish I had all week. The service was terrible. I think it was just our waitress. We actually had beer glasses stacked up 6 high on our table trying to get anyone's attention and it didn't work. She walked 10' away multiple times without even looking at us. I hate that! We couldn't get a refill for anything. I tried to call her over, tried waving her down, nothing. So I took the STACK of empty beer glasses and placed them on the waitress stand.. nothing... Tainted the whole experience, otherwise they would have had 4 stars for well cooked seafood at a decent price. They even have a bar where you can wait for your table. This is our favorite dinner place in Daytona. We eat here every time we come to town. This time we ate here twice. The food is always spot on as well the service is. As if you can't tell my daughter favorite meal is crab legs, and this is best place for them. I had the fried seafood combo the first night, that is what I usually get and it is great. I seen someone get a steak that night, and it looked good so I had to try it the second night. I was amazed at how juicy and tender it was. The wings here are always really good too. My wife got the the second night and loved them. The first she got the fish and was very happy with it. You can usually plan on a wait. With the limited seating due to COVID right now the waits are longer but they have off set it by taking your phone number when you get there, then you can wait in your car and they will text you when a table is ready. The first night(Thursday) it was about 45 minutes to get seated, on Friday night they said 40 but it only took about 20. Either way, it's well with the wait. read more

If your on this end of town and it comes down to eating at Bonefish or Charlie Horse, go Charlie Horse and never look back. This place was great. The people are really cool and you can tell most of them have worked there for quite a while. Our waitress was fantastic (even though she gave me a bunch of shit for not being able to finish all the crab, lol). The snow crab is excellent (all the food looked really good actually) and everything is priced pretty reasonably. The food is solid, the people are great and there is always a line out the door.
