Had a Valentine's Day dinner at Charlie Martin's, and overall it absolutely delivered on the vibe, service, and most of the food. The French onion soup was a standout and such a smart twist -- instead of the usual blanket of Gruyère, it came with a grilled cheese on the side for dipping, which was honestly a great call. Comforting, rich, and memorable. The main event was a dry-aged bone-in ribeye, and it did not disappoint. Beautifully cooked, deeply flavorful, and exactly what you want from a steakhouse cut like that. The only knock on the food was the Brussels sprouts -- the flavor direction was solid, but they were just a bit undercooked for my preference. Not a deal-breaker, just something that kept it from being a perfect meal. Where this place really shines is hospitality. Even on a packed Valentine's Day, the staff was excellent -- friendly, engaging, and attentive without hovering. The owner even stopped by to say hello, which always goes a long way. Great atmosphere, strong execution, and clearly a team that cares. I'll definitely be back -- and next time, I'm ordering that French onion soup again without hesitation.

Sexy old Hollywood speak easy vibe is what you will feel when you step in this restaurant. Service is absolutely spectacular but let me tell you this restaurant has won our hearts. Our absolute favorite to date. And let me tell you that's a big deal for me to make a claim like that! The food was absolutely spectacular. The steak.... Yes... melt in your mouth. You must order and I say MUST - The whipped potatoes. Dear lord.. I am still thinking about them! I promise you will come back here and thank me later. You're welcome :)

The happy hour here was really nice and affordable. The food was good but not the best. The drinks were really good though. The service and ambiance were good and the interior design was cool.

Great happy hour! The prices are good and the food is good. The steak frites for sure are a winner! Theyre huge so perfect for sharing. The vibe is cozy and definitely good for a date or gno. Service is friendly too!

Great happy hour with a very cool bar. It's a small space and really nice inside. We sat at the bar for happy hour and enjoyed some drinks and delicious food. The bartenders were great and attentive. I enjoyed my wine with the meal - we started with oysters and shrimp cocktail. This was so tasty and fresh. We also got the fried artichoke and caviar dip off the happy hour menu. Both were tasty and filling as well. The ceasar salad was a nice portion and went well with the meal. We also got the steak frites - this is a delicious steak and was tender and juicy. The fries however were lackluster and kinda cold. Otherwise, this place is awesome with great music, ambiance, and food at good prices during happy hour!

The delicious half serving of chilled lobster, a must order!

I love the old school supper club vibes of Charlie Martin's. Dark wood panelling covers the walls, a horseshoe bar with proper barstools with backs AND upholstery centers the space, and diners can choose a row of booths adjacent to the bar or a secluded space in the front of the restaurant with flanking banquettes. The food is just as good. Many seafood options in addition to chops. We went full bore seafood, starting with the crab cake and half lobster from the raw bar, and splitting the Dover Sole with French green beans. The lobster came out with drawn butter, cocktail sauce, and aioli and was delicious. The crab cake was all killer, no filler, and the Dover Sole was easily enough for two and a great value. End with the chocolate budino. Cocktails, as you would expect at a supper club, were superb; high quality riffs on the classics. I strongly urge my Noble Bourbon Boozers to try a Pistol-Packin' Mama, and the Ain't Misbehavin is a stellar mashup of a Manhattan and a Daiquiri. Wine list is small but there are several excellent French whites to pair with the multitude of seafood options. Reds are predominantly American. Oddly, the only French reds are Rhones - no Bordeaux or Burgundy. Rare to see but the Rhone choices are solid. Service is friendly and while the overall vibe encourages classy attire, it doubles as a neighborhood cocktail lounge so casual is ok too. The only drawback here is that, while the restaurant itself is wheelchair accessible, because of a quirk in the building's architecture, the men's restroom is not. It is an extremely narrow room with the stall at the end - impassable if anyone else is present. That one stall is too small to fit a wheelchair, and there is barely enough room to turn around. So keep that in mind if that is a concern for you. Fortunately there are accessible bars in the area for a nightcap.

The ambience is very welcoming. We went during happy hour. This place is happening during this time. The waiter was so friendly! So accommodating with our large party during Happy Hour. We tried several dishes and everything was great. We ordered the Shrimp cocktail, fried artichokes, baked goat cheese, and the caviar onion dip with house chips, Jumbo Lump Crab cake The shrimp were huge and so fresh. Fried Artichokes were ok. Baked Goat Cheese, delicious The Caviar dip was good, the house chips were great. The Crab Cake was good. We ordered the Amish Chicken and the Dry Aged Bond in Ribeye. A side alof the whipped potatoes. The Amish chicken was delicious! It was juicy, tender, and full of favors. The Ribeye was great. It was also tender and full of flavor. The sides were ordered were the whipped potatoes and Mushrooms. The whipped potatoes were so tasty, and so creamy. It was delicious. The Mushrooms were great as well. Nice taste perfect compliment with the ribeye. This place is great. I will definitely be going back. I really wanted to try their French Onion soup, but they were out.

Found this spot through Resy as part of Amex Platinum's special promotion, otherwise I wouldn't have known it existed. Cool, non descriptive exterior (totally my vibe). One we walked in the bar is in the center of the space, lined with tables around--gives an open airy vibe, loved it. The interior is dark and moody, I'd say perfect for a date. The staff was the friendliest I've ever seen in Chicago, from the second we walked in to the minute we paid the bill, we were made to feel special and that is a game changer for me. Let's start with the drinks off the happy hour menu, superb. You can't beat the price and taste--they truly were delicious and priced so reasonably. We had the King Arthur and My Cherie. Delicious and elevated. For an appetizer we ordered the caviar dip, but it's really an onion dip with some caviar on it. It held us over until the food came, wasn't too noteworthy and we didn't feel as though the flavors mixed all that well. We also ordered the crab cake and although crunchy and flaky to perfection a bit fishy on the initial bites, it's meant to be mixed with the greens on the plate. For our mains we ordered the vodka pasta and the chicken dish. The vodka pasta was good not the best I've had, but well flavored and filling. The pasta was cooked al dente and sauced perfectly. The flavor in the chicken was delicious and the skin crispy, however it was a bit on the drier side. Portions were ample and filling. While we didn't stay for dessert, we did very much enjoy the ambiance and jazzy vibe the spot offered us. Like I said it gives romantic/moody upscale date night.

Very cute ambiance, flavorful food, and strong drinks. I really enjoyed my rigatoni, however I found it weird that you can't add any protein to the dish. I was told they'd have to put the entire amish chicken on top of the pasta and charge me for the price of that entree, basically an additional $29. Crazy. Anyways, what really fell short was the service unfortunately. Upon being seated, we had to ask the hostess to grab our server because we hadn't been approached after 15 minutes of waiting. Once he came over, he was super friendly and personable, so maybe they were just short staffed. I let that part go. Once the bill came, he said he could split it amongst us 3. My bill was mostly correct, but he put all of the drinks from one lady's tab on the other lady's tab. They had already paid so once they noticed, he kind of tried to fix it but realized he couldn't reverse it in that moment so he suggested they just Zelle each other. Not considering the fact that everyone isn't paying with liquid cash and can't just Zelle someone such a significant amount. He had also charged one lady's card twice and had to reverse that as well. He just completely butchered that whole situation and got frustrated that they didn't tip what he thought they should. So frustrated that he actually came outside of the restaurant as we were chatting to give them an updated receipt further complain about the tip. He thanked me for my generous tip, but didn't hold back on his grievances with them. Completely unprofessional especially considering the fact that he couldn't even separate the checks properly.

Review of: 1. Dry-Aged Bone-in Ribeye - 22 oz, roasted garlic, marrow butter 2. Jumbo Lump Crab Cake - blue crab, preserved lemon, remoulade 3. Oysters from East & West Coasts 4. Whole Roasted Dover Sole - brown butter, capers, marcona almonds 5. Brussels Sprouts - roasted garlic, dijon sherry, vinaigrette 6. Broccolini - lemon, garlic, chili 7. Rhubarb & Blueberry Crumble To start, oysters were fresh and crab cake was a fun meaty hockey puck of tender crab. Veggies were crispy and quite flavorful. Ribeye was cooked perfect medium rare and juicy. Dover Sole was also cooked to perfect tenderness and pairs well with capers. Dessert was fresh, steaming, and comforting. Service was friendly and efficient. Good amount of seating for small to medium size groups.

Nothing was inherently wrong with the meal, though some items just weren't for me. The broccoli felt very simply prepared with little flavor, more steamed than seasoned. The rigatoni vodka leaned dry for my taste, with a sauce that lacked the creaminess I usually love in that dish. The steak frites were fine, well cooked, enjoyable, but didn't quite measure up to other versions around Chicago that have truly blown me away. Where this place really shined was with the mashed potatoes, which were phenomenal, creamy, rich, & easily the clear winner of the night. The Amish chicken was what truly sold us on the restaurant. It was hands down the best dish we had, thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, & memorable in a way that made the whole experience feel worth it. The space feels warm & comfortable, perfect for an easy dinner, plus service was attentive, kind, & made the evening feel relaxed from start to finish. Overall, a nice experience with highlights that stood out. I'd happily return for the Amish chicken plus those mashed potatoes alone.

I was pleasantly surprised! I don't eat red meat and this is a steakhouse, but everything we got was so good! I'd definitely recommend the rigatoni alla vodka and amish chicken, and our sides of brussels sprouts, broccolini, and whipped potatoes were really good and decent portions. My friend who got the burger said it was good and I was a fan of the fries and aioli type dip they served it with. I don't recall the menu mentioning that it came with fries, so maybe she would've wanted to sub, but since we got other sides it worked out well. My cherie cocktail was a little too sweet for my liking but my friend said her espresso martini was great. Our waiter clearly had a good rapport with the bartender which was nice to see. Our booth was cozy and we didn't do much exploring, but it was a nice (and could be romantic if wanted) place.

We are in love with Charlie Martin's! Besides their food and drinks being delicious, everyone is so open and kind! We're greeted by name now and always feel at home. Matteo, Matt, Ellie, Collin, Mercedes and Eric make our experience so special each time. Every single dish blows us away, but their artichoke appetizer is so refreshing and the bone marrow with different onions are such a great pairing. I'm a sweet drink girl myself (My Cherie) and my husband prefers King Arthur. Ambiance is lovely - bar is center with booths to the side, and a front area to gather and sit. Can't wait to be back, even though it's only been a couple days!

On Tuesdays, they offer a $49 tasting menu. The portions were large enough I couldn't finish…read moreeverything despite being voracious. While there was a spread, the meal was above average overall. The breakdown: 1st course - Parkerhouse Rolls: I have to give them points for showmanship. The beef tallow candle is a bona-fide candle! While there is an element of gimmickiness, it creates a fresh-tasting warm dip. The rolls themselves, while not the best bread I've ever had, were fresh, of perfect density, and wonderfully herbaceous. I give these a 8/10. 2nd course - Kale Caesar Salad: This is one where I tried a couple of forkfuls, and then said I didn't want anymore. I can award some consolation points for a healthy amount of parmesan, and accoutrements of garlic breadcrumbs, almonds, and egg yolk. Outside of these, however, the star of the show was a basic caesar dressing with kale that didn't taste much like anything. I give this a 2/10 3rd course - Grilled Oysters: This was hands down my favorite dish of the evening. I thought I wasn't a fan of cooked oysters, until I had these. The smell was as smoky as a campfire, the oysters cooked perfectly with a herbaceous and slightly acidic sauce and no fishiness! It reminded me of stupendously executed escargot. This dish deserves an 11/10. 4th course - Crispy Shrimp: The shrimp themselves were cooked well, and had an almost too-light breading. What helped elevate this dish was everything else. herbs, spices, sauce, olives, tomatoes, and greens all worked together well. It added savory, fresh, and acidic notes to the dish. An 8/10 from me. 5th course - Duck Confit Cigars: I appreciate what they were going for here, but the dish felt a little uninspired. They seemed more like a simple appetizer of duck rolled inside phyllo/wonton dough and fried. I can't complain about the marmalade, and it did help a little by adding sweetness and a little citrusy bitterness. These were pretty good, but if having a cigar, would rather have a Cuban - 7/10. 6th course - Marinated Cucumbers: Unlike the Caesar Salad, this vegetable course was superb. The flavor of the marinade was light and not at all overpowering. The cilantro added some herbiness, while the date puree added savory sweetness, and the garlic-chili crunch a little bite. No notes, a 10/10. 7th course - Skirt Steak & Crispy Smashed Potatoes: When the plate arrived in front of me, it made me wish for Smell-o-Vision, or, whatever the equivalent is here. Smell-o-Yelpision? The potatoes were divine, with the chicken cracklings helping add crunch, savor, and a heavenly smell. While I don't know if I can call them "smashed," they were still spud perfection. Spudfection? The steak was good, but not amazing. It was generally cooked well, though I can't say it was medium-rare throughout. While it was a fine cut and well seasoned, it was a hair shy of fork tender and melt in your mouth. The Aji Verde, while intended for the potatoes, went well with both. A dish that makes me wish I wasn't already full, and would devour everything in a heartbeat - 8/10. Dessert course - Apple Pie Cheesecake: Alas, by the time we got to the end, I was already stuffed. However, through and through the dessert screamed homemade by a pastry chef who knows what they're doing. Apple-y cake, lightly crisp crust, homemade whip, caramelized apple pieces, and gelato! Time to save room for dessert on a return visit! For being the apple of my sweet-tooth's eye; a 10/10. Drinks: I know that I had a Savoy Strut and a Blind Tiger. I'm sorry to say my mind did not retain specifics, but can tell you the cocktails added great creativity. Both were well-balanced in terms of sweetness, booziness, and savoriness, though not mind-blowing. A beer-goggle-less review of 9/10. Vibe: The atmosphere is a blend of moody, modern, and upscale. It has tasteful splashes of color, music playing at just the right volume, and tables not spaced too closely together. The bar seating reminded me of the uber-comfy bus driver seats that do a little ploosh when you sit. (10/10) Service: Credit to the bar-server for being friendly and welcoming, as well as making sure I was happy and asking for feedback on what about the salad I didn't like. However, I'd like to note as it was his first Tuesday shift, he didn't know about the Tuesday Tasting Menu, and some things arrived out of sequence. To be clear, this is not a failing of the server, but management for not offering proper, timely training, and having him work alone. Bonus to the staff for quickly 86'ing someone who was WAY too happy in public. Service gets a 7/10 Final verdict: I crunched some numbers. If "7" is average, Untitled Supper Club averages 8.2 on an equally-weighted basis. The tasting menu gave me a good picture of their offerings - enough to say what appetizers to get when coming with friends so I don't stuff myself with too much bread prematurely, unable to enjoy a dessert.

I love the ambiance of the place, feels very high end and intimate. Perfect place for a date night or girls night. Major complaint is that the waitstaff cleared my drink and our apps before I was done drinking and eating -_- . This happened as soon as we asked our waiter for the check. Thought that was pretty bad service, as we were still snacking on the apps, and I still had probably a quarter of my drink left. Guess they were ready to get us out of there as quick as possible. Other than that, the food that we shared and the drinks were pretty good. On the pricey end but I guess it makes sense given how nice the place is and the location. I'd definitely recommend for the show but would advise to hold off asking for the check until your REALLY finished.

I went here with my best friend and my hubby to celebrate my birthday with a great birthday dinner…read more We were in the Chi already visiting Atlas Stationary as a self-proclaimed station and fountain pen freak so we figured why not?!? I had heard great things about Carnivale prior to so please note that prior reservations were already made but regardless, it was all our first times there and we were stoked to finally try this place out. When we first got there, the outside was very unassuming. Some awesome graffiti on the wall (yes, angel wings included) and lots of color which made me so happy! As we entered, we were greeted by lots of colored flora on the walls and the floor. It led to a beautiful lounge where we checked in. The hostess was quite kind and they escorted us to another room that had multiple floors, two I believe. We were sitting in the main dining area where dining tables were set up and the ceiling lights and decorations were super-duper colorful. It was brightly lit and festive. Seriously, the colors alone could make anyone happy and do a serious dopamine overload which was fine with me. We sat down, was introduced to our server, Oscar and then given menu's. I genuinely thought that this place was pretty small initially because it looked small from the outside but boy was I wrong! This place was MASSIVE. But! I digress, now that we had our menu's-- Let the party begin!! We started with the ceviche tasting which included four types of ceviche; shrimp, Yucatan style hamachi, salmon and tuna. All were really good with their own really distinct flavors but our top favorites were the salmon and the tuna. The salmon had a kick while the tuna had a great balance of heat and sweetness. Great way to start of this dinner! My bestie ordered coconut shrimp and smoked mushroom croquettes for her main meal. My hubs ordered the carne asado while I ordered the lechon asada. I also want to add that we ordered Mexican street corn on the side alongside mashed potatoes and Peruvian Jalea. Ah and before I forget, we also ordered our drinks which consisted of a: sangria, margarita, Cotton Candy Cosmo and Salva Honduran Pilsner. All were spectacular and made the night that more enjoyable as well! When we received our food. We were all really enjoyed it as we all shared our bites amongst one another. The coconut shrimp was well breaded and you tasted the coconut as well. The shrimps were large and juicy. The smoked mushroom croquettes were good with a smokey flavor and good breading, however, the breading may have a been a little thick because you couldn't really taste the mushroom,m unfortunately. The carne asado was the star of the show. Well seasoned steak, cooked medium rare which was juicy and succulent. The lechon asado was good. Although I'm not used to eating lechon asado that is covered in sauce, the sauce was super tasty so I didn't mind the tender, juicy pork that was covered in it. I really enjoyed it. I think the only thing that I wish was different with regards to my lechon asado is that I wish it were hotter because it was luke warm when I received it. Other than that, it was....*chef's kiss*. The Mexican street corn was alright, it honestly just tasted like regular corn with mayonaise in it with some cheese. Didn't add anything significant to the meal. The mashed potatoes were soft but not too soft and buttery. They were really good and then the Purvian Jalea was another favorite, super good! The calamari, fish and shrimp with the Purvian Jalea were absolutely delicious; fresh, tasty and well breaded. It was absolutely yummalicious. To top the night off, they gave me a little birthday treat of cotton candy and carmel popcorn. We also had some tres leches which was so yummy because the fruit was fresh and you could taste the milk in the tender cake and then we had the chocolate cigar. The chocolate cigar was also really good, everything except the label was edible, It was smokey, chocolately and delectable. It's presentation was also so creative. We all loved it. Overall, this restaurant is SUPER PRICY but SUPER WORTH IT. I am so glad that I was able to go there to celebrate a special occasion because it would not be a place that I could go to on a regular basis but as much as I wish I was, ya girl ain't rich like that. The service was superb, the employees were kind, the food was fire and drinks were scrumptious. If you're looking for a fun, Latin cuisine inspired, creative, yummy way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion with a fun Latin twist--look no further, that is it! Very nice and what a great entrance it has. The rooms and the different feeling each one gives is pretty awesome. The upstairs is where we were invited to attend the party bc of the invite and it was very lounging and nice. There's a Latin room where we wanted to go but next time we will. Then there a bigger room with lots of dinner tables and another upstairs.

This place was hands-down one of the worst experiences I've had at any bar. It felt less like a…read moresports bar and more like some kind of detention center. My friends and I showed up just trying to watch the game, and right away we're getting aggressively patted down like criminals. Completely unnecessary and way over the top. We stayed inside for hours, bought drinks, watched the game, and didn't cause a single problem. At one point I stepped outside for literally a minute to smoke, and when I came back, one of the security guards immediately started acting hostile. Another door guy even told him, "He was already inside," and he still ignored him. That tells you everything you need to know. Instead of doing his job professionally, this guy got in my face screaming "Move, move, move!" and physically pushing me like he was trying to provoke something. It was pure ego and completely uncalled for. I stayed calm and tried to explain I had already been inside for hours, but he clearly wasn't interested in listening. He was more focused on flexing authority than actually handling the situation correctly. I ended up going around to another entrance, and a different staff member let me in without any issue, which just proves the first guy was completely out of line. At that point, we grabbed our things and left. No one is going to spend their money somewhere they're treated with that level of disrespect. Security like that doesn't make a place feel safe--it makes it feel hostile, unprofessional, and not worth coming back to. We won't be returning.

Bouncers, security, and bartenders were fine - not rude or anything but also not spectacular. There are other spots in the neighborhood with way more welcoming staff, but I also didn't have a gripe with the staff. The best part of Joy is the rooftop. We were enjoying the view of the skyline, the vibes, and the really great tech house DJs that were playing up there. Unfortunately, the roof are closed before the headliner came on downstairs on the main dance floor, we were forced to listen to the opener who constantly failed to beat match (for those not familiar with DJ-ing, that is probably the very first thing you learn to do). The music choice was a little weird and the vibes were just not good. We ended up leaving at midnight because the crowd was a little young and rude, and the headliner still had not come out. We were ready to call it quits. It's unfortunate because it's a great stage/dance floor setup, super fun bottle service presentation (even as just bystanders), but the music and vibes were not it. That said, I typically like Joy District and again, the rooftop was the BEST, so I will still be back again soon!

The city views, the cocktails, the energy... it was the perfect pre-night-out stop. There's just something about starting an evening above the skyline with good food, good drinks, and even better company. And now? The rooftop glow-up for winter is everything. The Godfrey has transformed the space into cozy holiday igloos, making it the ultimate cold-weather hangout without giving up those iconic rooftop vibes. Think warm drinks, seasonal bites, twinkly lights, and skyline views -- all bundled up and festive. Whether you're planning a holiday date night, a girls' night, or a pre-show stop this month, the Godfrey rooftop igloos are an absolute must-check-out. Same vibes, new season, even better reason to go. Trust me... add this one to your December plans. What we ordered at the Godfrey rooftop - Fresh veggie crudité with creamy hummus - Warm pita + dips - Juicy slider trio with toasted buns - Crispy fries with ketchup - A refreshing mojito - A berry-forward cocktail (light, fruity, and perfect for rooftop sipping)

The line to get in was a bit long (however covered since it was raining which was nice). The venue is located upstairs so we waited along since a long set of stairs with everyone else. The security here wasn't rude or anything which was a good sign from off the bat, and once we got inside we had a lot of space to roam around towards the back when we wanted drinks or whatever which made it easy to not stress about needing to be at the very front of the dancing floor space. Drinks weren't outrageously expensive which was nice, and we genuinely had a good time here! We saw Chance the Rapper make an appearance in the crowd and he was standing right by us which was super cool! Overall - nice space, and I know they always have events here and apparently food(?). I didn't see food, but I see reviews mentioning food. Anyways, would recommend.
