Food was ok. I ordered cinnamon raisin French toast. Server brought it and noticed something about it. Took it back to the kitchen where they dumped cinnamon sugar on it and she served it. Not at all as described on the menu or was expected. No raisins. She said they were in the bread. They were not. Food was cold and grits were watered down and tasteless Every item on the menu had a price. We were charged more for all our items. When asked was told prices changed! Isn't it illegal to give one price and then charge more after the fact? DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Update: Based on my experience here, the reply of the owner fits the MO of this terrible eating establishment. No class! And everything they do is a lie. I went here on 05-14-2026 for dinner and went in with high expectations! Ordered the mostaccioli and when received it looked like they just plopped the sauce right out of a can!! One of my favorite little gems in St Clair Shores! Over the years I've tried so many options of the menu -- all of which have been delicious. The portions here are large so be prepared to get a to go box to enjoy lunch the next day! The strawberry chicken salad is HEAVENLY! Huge portion and the chicken is grilled to perfection every time. Ingredients are always fresh and never soggy (which sometimes can happen with to go orders) I recently came for breakfast with my family and we all loved everything we got! The stuffed french toast was a crowd pleaser for my boyfriend and I. My sister and I also enjoyed the pigs in a blanket (again, huge portion! We could've easily shared!) I will not be returning to this establishment. I literally never give one star. I've heard numerous stories from customers that are just not making me want to ever return. I heard this establishment called the cops on a customer that didn't pay for their raw chicken. I've heard it's a very toxic work environment, and that the employees are not treated fairly or with respect. Sounds like food and service have gone downhill. I don't think it's the servers fault either. Definitely a management issue. Managers going to tables are arguing with customers when food is raw or inedible. read more

First, you do have the best Philly around. BUT, each and every time I go into your Walmart store in Lafayette, IN, I tell the server I want a half beef Philly JUST LIKE IT'S LISTED ON THE MENU. But, each and every time, the server asks if I want lettuce and tomato on it. And this past Friday, I told him "just like on the menu." It came with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Charlie's Restaurant in St. Clair Shores turned out to be a great spot for our group of 6 to break bread together the day after Thanksgiving for breakfast. It's a large place and it was full but not overflowing with a guaranteed wait kind of full like at The Original Pancake House or The Jagged Fork. The corn beef hash was a winner. Good fries too. We got spinach on the side and were delighted when a whole plate of freshly sauteed leaves arrived at the table. Hard working waitresses. read more

This establishment needs to undergo customer service training. The video circulating online is extremely disturbing. Treating paying customers in such a disrespectful manner, especially laughing in their faces in front of others, is unprofessional and insulting. Replacing burnt food is a simple matter, but accusing a customer of trying to get free food because of negligence by one of your cooks is completely unfounded. There is much room for improvement in 2026. A true business owner knows how to handle criticism gracefully without arguing or arguing back and forth with customers. We went to Charlie's for dinner Saturday night. Very, very disappointing. Food used to taste great. My husband ordered the Polish plate which included two pierogi. They were freezer burned! What a find on the East side of town. A marvelous light fluffy Greek Gyro Feta Omelette w Pancakes and Toast. She had wonderful Monterey Chicken two mega Chicken Breast. Shout out to Morgan our superstar waitress, fast friendly and funny, a keeper. Huge place with full bar, a packed house early Sunday afternoon. I am so disappointed in this place. My mother has been coming here for years. YEARS. So we decided to surprise her with a birthday party for her 80th. She was thrilled, until she learned how rudely my sister and some of our guests were treated. There was some sort of mixup in the catering department and they cancelled our reservation, but never told us. When guests showed up, they were told there was no banquet room reserved for them. When my sister arrived, she was treated extremely rudely by a horrible woman. (Why this woman is in the hospitality industry is a mystery. She's certainly not a people-person.) While my sister was providing proof of payment to the manager? owner?, she missed the big SURPRISE moment for a party she planned for months. Thanks for ruining what should have been a joyous event. I've been there 2 times. The first time I waited for over an hour to be waited on until I decided to leave. I thought I would give them another try in case they were short staffed. I went with my partner during the week after the lunch rush. We were seated right away but sat and sat while other people came in and got water, etc. It was especially annoying because so many employees were just standing around talking. Wish there was a way to put zero stars becuase this establishment is poorly run. To make a long story short...Order was for a grilled chicken wrap with bacon, extra onion. Well done fries. Upon delivery of the order, the waitress stated she put the order in incorrectly and the wrap was missing the bacon. She said she will bring a side of bacon. She was told the bacon needs to be inside the wrap so it was sent back to be made correctly. The second time the wrap came back without being grilled and the waitress said the cook rushed to remake the wrap so he did not grill it. The wrap was sent back to be grilled. The third time the fries were cold, probably the same fries from original plate. Manager refused to removed the item from the bill even though it was their fault it was made wrong twice and cold the third time. Manager was rude and yelling in front of the other patrons. After refusing to pay for the wrap and fries they called the police. The bill for the other person's meal was paid. They just needed to make it right and remove the wrap from the bill rather than call the police. This is not good business. This was my first visit and will be my last. So I go to Charlie's on Harper in St. Clair Shores I ordered the seafood platter. The waitress brings the food and says it's not cooked well. I checked it and it's was fried to hard. I sent it back. She offered to cook it again & i told her no thank you! I told her I wasn't mad but I didnt want it remade. The owner started talking stuff saying we were broke and didn't want to pay. They called us burnt which I thought was racist. She told me I was fried & acting crazy. I eventually cussed them out. I will NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. One of the waitresses asked another customer to pay for our food. Who goes to a restaurant broke. The waitress came back to table and said the owner told her to come take the fries because I didn't want the over cooked food. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant! I'm happy to know the owner and his family are racist though. I never want to eat at a place that's racist. I never let a person remake my food. They proved my point!!! It was my first time ever visiting this restaurant and it will definitely be my last! This restaurant has given me the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I ordered an omelette with a side of bacon and the food was not good. I took the 1st bite of the Omelette and could taste that it was unseasoned. I tried to take another bite but I just didn't like it. The bacon didn't taste that good either so, I just sent the entire order back. The waitress told me that everything would be taken off of my bill but when I got the bill they still had the bacon on there. I went to the front to tell them that they forgot to take the bacon off of my bill. The waitress stated that they told her that she was only allowed to take the omelette off and that's it. I guess the girl that came up was a supervisor or whatever but she basically said that I was going to pay for the bacon no matter what. Now, the $5.20 that it cost for the bacon wasn't the problem. The problem was the fact that I didn't feel like I should pay for something I didn't enjoy or eat. Also, she was extremely rude and smug the entire time. I told her I wasn't paying for it but I would pay the rest of the bill and she basically said that if I wasn't going to pay she would call the police on me. I told her to go ahead and do what she needed to do....she really called the police over $5.20!! I didn't care because ATP it was the principle for me. Once the police came and told them that they could only try to meditate the situation, they told them that they would just take me to court. ALL OF THIS FOR $5.20!! I was fine with that but my mother in law and cousin said that they were going to far so, they ended up paying the bill. Once I told people what happened, they said that they had a similar experience or they knew someone that had. Not surprisingly, all of these people were black!! THESE PEOPLE ARE RACIST TOWARDS BLACK PEOPLE! STOP PATRONIZING THIS ESTABLISHMENT!! I. Love. This. Place. We've been trying a bunch of new breakfast/lunch spots in the Shores lately and finally it came around for Charlies turn and I don't think we've been anywhere else since. I've had several menu items (breakfasts, sandwiches, salads, soups) and I have not been disappointed once. The service is always amazing, food is always fresh and their soups are great. I only wish they had their Italian Wedding soup as an offering more often! Now, I know they serve beer, wine, and liquor, but I never thought about how great this place would be for brunch! A table next to us ordered a bloody mary and it all clicked! Now, we haven't been able to dine in lately, but I can't stop thinking about getting a bloody or a mimosa while eating their amazing food.
