I had been having issues with a coolant leak and overheating on my 2006 Lexus RX 400h and was turned away from my best friends mechanic because he didn't want to touch a hybrid. Then I found Charlie's and was happy to hear that he allows early morning drop off. Charlie diagnosed the issue, however, upon removal of my radiator, he found more damage than expected. Charlie contacted me to update me on the situation and even offered to send pics. My radiator fans were melted and my splash plate was in pieces. Charlie gave me fair prices compared to other shops or dealerships and even saved the damage parts to show me when I picked my car up. After driving for 10 mins after pickup, my car started to overheat. I took it directly back to Charlie and I left it there for him to work on. He attempted to burp my car several times before diagnosing that my thermostat was stuck on close so the refrigerant wasn't flowing to the places that needed it most. Charlie quoted me for the repair of the thermostat and even though they worked on my car for several hours more than quoted, he honored my initial quote. We went with highly recommended Yelp reviews, and chose this place for routine oil change for both our cars. First time we took the cars separately and service was good. We did have to drop off the cars before 8, which is an inconvenience but overall it was fine. However, we noticed a sound when driving the civic through slopes/low depth areas. We realized both the cars- the SUV as well as the sedan had their dust covers open from two ends. When we took it to Charlie's he fixed it. When we went to pick up our cars, the mechanic who fixed it told us it's possible whenever the last time oil change had happened that the person failed to screw in the dust cover tight enough, and that's what caused this. When we tried to talk about it to the owner, he basically rushed us and dismissed us saying "it could have happened anywhere and we can't prove anything". We explained that our cars were serviced individually at his place last, and we are willing to pay but wanted to just remind for future to avoid this from happening. But his response left us quite disappointed and feeling dismissed. We paid $80 for something totally avoidable. Hoping this is not intentional to dupe customers. But an acknowledgment would have been nice. We go to get oil change and have to return to fix something they caused, even if unintentionally- seems suspicious. Just disappointed and will be looking for another mechanic. read more

He also put in a new fuse because the cell phone charger was not working. Guess what, he did not charge me.. That is why I always take my vehicles to his shop. Thought highly of this place until I actually went over. Wanted a transmission oil change for my vehicle but since my vehicle was, according to Charlie, what I understood it was a "variable" transmission or something to that effect, he could not do it. Basically, I felt it was too much of hassle for him to change than your normal transmission oil change. read more

Back when I had my old car/before I made a major life upgrade, the check engine light came on my 170,000+ mile Ford Fiesta. I went to AutoZone to have the code read and it indicated either oxygen sensor or catalytic converters. Wanting to have it checked out, I got up at the crack of dawn to drive over to Charlie's because the reviews were really good and that there could be lines. They are open for dropoff beginning at 5:30. When I arrived, they saw me right away. Charlie read the engine code again and was kind enough to say don't bother, go home. He told me it's definitely not an oxygen sensor and my catalytic converter was likely on the way out. I appreciated his honesty about the situation and definitely lit a fire under me to find a new car. He cleared the engine code and away I went. If I'm not going to LA for my mechanic there, I will definitely be going back to Charlie for mechanic needs. read more

Took my 05 Yukon in at 6:30 am for rough running on cold start . And intermittent engine light . I told him he could have the car all week as my wife works from home now . (They open for drop off at 5:30am) By 6am Charlie called to say the MAF sensor was bad and because the car had never had spark plugs at 125k miles, it was time . And that when the plug wires were removed after all that tune they often broke . I okayed the repairs and he said it should be ready by 1pm. By 11:30 I got a call saying all was done and test drive was fine . We picked up at 1:30 and the car has never run smoother . The check engine light which occurred when we towed has not come back on and our regular shop had three attempts to find the reason in the past for the intermittent light with no luck . I had used Charlie in the early 80's when he was first open on Clovis Ave and Tulare Street and I will not stray again . Very reasonable and honest man . read more

The Man is as honest as they come, I was having an air conditioner problem, so asked Charlie if he could fix my 2021 Honda. He said how many miles you have on Honda. I told him 22,000, why? Charlie said yes he could fix it for about $300, but your car is still under warranty why don't you take it to the dealer. Charlie saved me. I mean, SAVED me from $900+ in work. I called 8 different places Including Clovis Nissan and all but Charlie quoted me a $110 diagnosis or a $600 plus repair. I was desperate, especially since I was up for smog. I showed up at Charlie's at 5:45am and told him what was happening. He took his computer to my car and reset the check engine light. He said to drive it for 50 miles and if it goes away, it was just the fuel sensor which is common with certain Nissans. If it came back on, to bring it in and would maybe cost $189-$200. HE DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE ME. NOT ONE DAMN PENNY! He could have charged a diagnosis fee. He could have kept me there. He could have replaced my entire fuel system. All of the things that the other shops suggested, but he didn't. I was almost in tears. I paid my car off a few days before that and when the check engine light came on, I was devastated, especially since it was due for smog. People trust Charlie because he's honest. People get to the shop at 6am because he's the guy you trust. People wait for him because they know that whatever he charges is the fairest and cheapest out there. So thankful for this guy! Charlie's is the best! I called there on Thursday morning because my car had been acting up and they told me to come in right away. I took my car in around 630am and they took it in immediately and were so polite. I had enough time to go wait for some Dutch Bros and they called and said that I needed new tires (after a tire shop told me it was a body issue). I went back and they were kind enough to show me where my tire had metal coming out *seriously* and charged me nothing for checking it out. I tried to pay and they would not have it.
