Stir fry beef noodles

Fantastic! Best Asian food I have ever eaten in Anchorage. Half restaurant half bakery, with a casual and relaxed atmosphere this restaurant is worth trying. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Prices are very reasonable and the menu is excellent. Highly recommended! Enjoy every bite...

My go to place for Asia cuisine ! I always get the #37 spicy beef , but I get it mild. The ambience is amazing with all the different conversions happening. The service was outstanding

Overall 3.25 Stars After a filling and satisfying Japanese dinner, we wanted to finish the night with a dessert. Review will be shortly posted on the Japanese restaurant. Charlie's Bakery is a bit odd and quirky; just like me. It is a Chinese restaurant that serves Asian inspired dishes but bakes and serves Western bakery goods; pies, cakes, bread (baguettes, croissants, rolls, etc) The place is part of a strip mall on the corner of C Street and Northern Lights. When you enter in the non-discript place, you are met with an open concept design with many tables and chairs, glass counters and shelves to view the baked goods and four 60" TVs which display the Chinese dishes. The baked goods are all ready in viewed through the glass counters and open shelves. The place is not fancy at all. It is well lit and bright cuz the color of white is used; kinda' like a bakery place. Instead of a Chinese restaurant where the mood lighting is darker and the furniture aren't made of rich wood or red vinyl. There are two cashiers where you can order the food. After ordering, sit down, wait for the food and watch the eclectic people around you. When order is ready, your lighted "thing-a-ma-jig" will vibrate. 3.5 Stars - Food We ordered two desserts to share. 3.5 Stars - slice of Pineapple Cheesecake. If you are pineapple fan, you will like this one. It is loaded within the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was dense but still had a fluffy and creamy texture. The whipped cream on top was firm and there was a sugary sliced Pineapple on top. The taste wasn't overly sweet but I thought it was missing something but couldn't my finger on it. However, the girls thought it was wonderful and delicious. I got two bites before it disappeared. 3.25 - 3.5 Stars - Green Matcha and Red Bean. Again, if you are a fan of matcha and red bean, you will like this dessert. It isn't too sweet. The cream is airy, light fluffy. I believe it has a hint of vanilla and red bean in the cream. The crust was made with red bean flour and the taste was mild. It was evenly covered w the powder green matcha and it was the main flavor of the dish. The perfect bite is to scoop all three flavors into one bite. The mocha flavor can be overpowering at times. Balance it out with milk or coffee. The girls gave it 3.25 while my star rating was 3.5. After having only two of many desserts, I will definitely come back for the Chinese dishes, variety of breads (come early for the bread) cuz they sell out quickly and the desserts.

Been on the hunt for my go-to Chinese spot here in Anchorage and I think I may have found my place. The steamed black cod was absolutely divine - cooked perfectly and seasoned in such a way that it made the black cod's delicate flavor shine. The main dish came with sizeable portions of pork fried rice and veggies as sides. The fried rice was so delicious and I can attest that the leftovers were just as good the next day for lunch. Can't wait to try the dim sum next time!

I love Charlie's and I'm pretty sure the rest of Anchorage does too. It doesn't matter what time of day I visit, they are crazy busy. It always smells incredibly welcoming. The food is tasty, whether it's desserts, lunch Asian pastries or hot meals. You can't go wrong.

Soy sauce marinated pork chops

Everything here is SO GOOD. I was meeting a friend for lunch here and while waiting ended up ordering a ham and cheese roll because I couldn't wait to eat lol. It was tasty and light and is probably even better fresh out of the oven. For my meal I had the soy sauce marinated pork chops, which was hearty and filling. The meat was tender with a slight crisp, and the rice steaming hot. I absolutely inhaled the whole plate. Charlie's is also known around town for their desserts. On a second trip a week later my fiancé and I had a Boston Cream Pie and Irish cream cheesecake. They were light and the perfect amount of sweetness. They had a lot of business on a Saturday afternoon with people dining in and picking up orders to go. Sometimes it gets busy and all tables are full, but the food is worth the wait. You won't be disappointed here!

The food was Amazing! I had the pork spicy wonton. Came out hot and so good. I also had the Kalbi short ribs with rice n vegetables to go. I can't wait to try that too

Charlie's Bakery is a Chinese restaurant and bakery, with a lot of traditional menu items and baked goods. They have plenty of seating. I almost jokingly describe how they are one of the cleanest Chinese bakeries I've ever seen, ok, I'm only half joking. My wife and I were in town for a trip and found this place through online searching. We went during lunchtime and it seemed to be pretty full which was a good sign. I ordered their braised beef noodle soup (spicy), and I ordered their spicy wontons. My wife had a seafood noodle soup. The food came out in a timely manner, they brought the order to our table. The noodles were standard egg noodles but the braised beef and the broth was really good. I'd go there again.

Great food. Good prices. Very quick service with order at the counter style. Sure the atmosphere isnt great but its fast chinese food with great quality baked goods. I had the sesame chicken and a slice of mocha cake. Everything was great.

I used to frequent this place so much in high school when I worked at the KFC, that was located at the other end of the strip mall. We visited most recently, to pickup dinner on a Saturday evening. We made it in before their dinner rush, thankfully. Food, flavor, quality, and portions here, remain the same. Our food came out fast, fresh, and hot. My only complaint is that my "house fried rice," was really only "shrimp fried rice" which of course, isn't the same. We appreciated Charlie's' sauce section (chili and sriracha especially). This visit, I noticed canned soda and Hawaiian sun juices were available, in addition to their fountain soda options. Not sure if they've always had these available, but we appreciated it this time around for sure.

Ordered the sesame chicken, fried rice, and wontons. We've also had the Mongolian beef. All were good. We would ordered the sesame, mongo, and wontons again.

Egg tarts 蛋挞

I finally stopped in on my most recent visit to Anchorage and I'm so glad I did. I had the sheet rice noodles with beef and some egg tarts. The staff was friendly and food arrived quickly and was so delicious I decided to go back the next day to dine in. For lunch I had the bean curd rolls and spicy wontons. The place was packed but I was able to get a table before my food was served and both selections were winners. I'm looking forward to my next trip so I can eat there again.

The menu is concise but high quality. Since everything is made fresh, they do run out of items quickly, so get there early! Highlights for me, - Rice Noodle Rolls: Perfectly chewy and soak up the sauce beautifully. - Shu Mai: Classic, savory pork satisfaction. - Egg Tarts: Delicate and not overly sweet. This is a family-run spot that prioritizes tradition and warmth over flashy decor. It feels like a home-cooked meal.

If I came here again I might try some of the other main dishes you can get on the week day but I would definitely get the red bean paste bun and the pork belly bao buns. The meat portion is really two bites and you get two in an order. We also got egg tart for dessert. They were out of a few things including the seasame balls which we would have tried. It was pretty empty when we came, only one other table occupied. The outside kind of fools you because you just park wherever and they also share the building with other tenants. Overall the food was not disappointing, and especially so because you basically can't find this food anywhere else in town.

Even as we were leaving there were still empty tables. I figured it would be overcrowded because of the occasion. We were warned that the portions were larger and meant to be served family style and the food would come out as it was ready. The shredded chicken was not really shredded like I was picturing in my head, but small pieces. It wasn't dry at all considering how small it was sliced. The braised pork belly was a fairly large sized chunk. I feel like it was braised with Chinese five spice and star anise among other things. It was very tender. The vegetable chow mein was very flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The curry chicken xiao long bao was a little too spicy for me. I couldn't taste anything but heat. The braised short rib was served on top of green beans, onions, and carrots and a side or rice in a pot. It was fall off the bone tender. My favorite item was the clay pot rice with Chinese sausage. There was a slight sweetness to it and there were bits of crunchy rice at the bottom that was slightly caramelized with the sauce. About halfway through, we noticed there was a robot server. It kind of sneaks up on you. One of the servers crashed into it when they turned around. It might need a bell when it goes through the dining room. I hope the table the food was meant for didn't wait too long for a replacement. The interior was clean and cozy and there wasn't much noise echoing like many busy restaurants. Our server was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be back.

When we arrived there was no one at the host stand for a solid five minutes. Other staff walked right past us without so much as a "someone will be right with you," which set a pretty uncomfortable tone right off the bat. We eventually got seated, but even with the restaurant being pretty empty it still took a while before a server showed up to the table. Our server wasn't rude or anything, but the energy was just completely flat. It felt like he could not care less about being there. Sodas got refilled once the entire night. Between being seated and appetizers, and again between appetizers and our entrees, he was basically nowhere to be found. The thing that really got me was being asked if we wanted boxes while our plates were still full and we were just sitting there having a conversation, never once offering to top off our drinks until we finally asked. It's a shame because the food really was solid and the restaurant itself has a nice warm vibe to it. ORSO clearly has a lot going for it and on a different night with more attentive service it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience. For now it's hard to rate it higher than a 3 when the service makes what should be a really nice dinner feel like an afterthought.

I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here.
