Amazing but SUPER DUPER expensive, as in the most money I've ever spent on Chinese in my life. I have never spent 100.00 at a Chinese restaurant for 2 people and only one glass of wine. Yikes. The sushi rolls are about $28 a piece and fired rice is $18. I guess at these prices, I'll keep ordering it just once a year. Service was great but I just can't justify the price. For $86 plus tip we got for chicken lo mein, friend rice and Mongolian chicken 2 egg rolls and a 2 glasses of wine. Anywhere else that's about a $50 meal so all in all... Delicious food great service but I'll definitely try to find a more affordable meal somewhere else. read more

Asian food in the valley. We just recently moved from Anchorage and was exploring what our Asian options were. There had been a Korean restaurant here that I had been eyeballing and was excited to try, only to find out they have now closed. I had agreed to give Tokyo Japanese Restaurant a try. Their prices were CRAZY expensive. We paid over $30 (March 2024) for a bento style box. Ours had teriyaki chicken and beef. The tempura included in the bento was good but the teriyaki chicken and beef were just pieces of meat with way too much sauce on top of it. The option of miso soup or egg drop was nice and we both really enjoyed the miso soup. However that is about the end of our list of the food we really enjoyed there. My husband did try to order the Kalbi only to be told that they didn't have it. I definitely think the valley has a niche that is needed to be filled with some quality Asian food. This sure isn't it. I think I'd rather eat Panda's Fast food than try this again and it would be a heck of a lot cheaper. read more

My two children ordered the crunch roll and we ordered one to go as well. They enjoyed it but in a weird way they all didn't taste the same. Lack of consistency! The bento box was semi-tolerable..the tempura that comes with it has more vegetables ( starchy) ones and one lonesome shrimp. Definitely not worth the cost of the entire meal. The gyoza was mushy..sorta made me gag several times. Quality was NOT there. Chicken teriyaki was ok and rice (thankfully) tasted like rice..not much to say regarding white rice. Can't believe that was even critiqued amongst everything else. They dropped the bill on our table without a word. It was almost a hundred for poor quality food. Then took my card and charged me for someone else's food. Then asked for my card back to reverse the charges! Finally did so, no apology- nothing. Ordered 6 items... even after confirming our order, half the items were wrong when we got them(yes, 3 of the 6 items). The waiter didn't even seem very upset that so many parts of our order were incorrect. We waited another 30-40 minutes for the sushi rolls that had to be remade. I don't do a lot of reviews for restaurants, but thought I would do one for this place. I really like the interior and feel of this place. It's pretty casual, very clean and just a great atmosphere. The lighting with the natural wood construction was really nice. The waitress was very nice. We were seated right away, brought water and nice hot tea. We had a second waiter that took care of us during the meal. He wasn't hovering over us constantly or bugging us, but made sure our glasses stayed full, and finished plates were immediately taken. That's big for me. The menu wasn't too much for the kitchen to handle, we we got some pretty good quality food: Teriyaki Salmon - Tasty and not dry/overcooked. This was a huge hit for my wife and daughter. Beef and Broccoli - Great taste, and I'd like to know how they got the beef so tender. Broccoli wasn't mushy, slight crunch which is just the way it should be. Sweet N Sour Shrimp - Nailed it. Not tough, great taste, and it had what you would expect from a good sweet n sour; crunchy but not raw onion cubes, pineapple chunks that weren't soggy, crisp carrots sliced thinly, green peppers with a nice crunch. I like the dual-menu option; Japanese food, or Chinese food. It works pretty well for them as I said, and judging by the quality, the kitchen can handle the menu pretty well. I did not try the sushi bar, but it looked clean and had pretty much what you would expect. I would say the only con about this place during my visit, was that the water had the garden hose taste to it. They really need to add a filter, or change it if they already have one. read more

First of all the older lady is very rude. We had a party of 8 and my mom came in first, lady at the counter acted completely inconvenienced having to even talk to her. We sit down and you can tell by her attitude she is not in a great mood (from what I've heard from others she never is in a great mood), we end up giving our order to a different staff member and she was actually nice. They were out of lo mien and yakisoba, no big deal, so two of us change our order. After a considerable wait, I get my order and one other gets theirs, a good 10 minutes goes by and everyone's soup comes, by this time I'm almost done with my fried rice ($14 for mediocre fried rice, lacking in flavor), then the table next to us who came in after we did gets their order before anyone else at our table, finally we get a couple more orders, still waiting on one order, it's been 20 minutes since my order came out and the second to last person in our party got theirs. We ask the waitress about the last order and she has to go check the ticket, we then see her show the man making the sushi the ticket and explaining to him he forgot one and he starts getting visibly irritated and starts saying something to her so we decide to just cancel the order because at that point my sister didn't even want it. On top of everyone's meal being subpar, they include an 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more, which I understand, however the staff aside from one waitress was rude and seemed like they didn't even want us there. The total bill was $200 and half of us left hungry. Will be going to Zushi from now on. read more

This place is weak. I sat at the bar. The sushi chef was nice enough. I asked if he could make a firecracker roll, which I explained as a deep fried spicy tuna roll with Siracha sauce. He said sure no problem, but brought out something different. It was late, and I had been driving a while so I just ate it. It wasn't even close to spicy. He forgot the siracha so I asked for some. I also had a spider roll. He made me an orange for desert which was fine, but overall I was unimpressed. In terms of spiciness, I would say that Alaska is more like the east coast in that medium is not nearly enough is you like the heat. Being from the east coast and having lived in Tahoe for a bit, I can say that the scale (mild, medium, hot) is different across the country. Alaskans can't handle the heat which seems perfectly OK in retrospect. In conclusion, just skip Wasilla entirely. You cannot see Russian from you truck or RV, and there isn't much there to keep you entertained anyway. read more

The pork fried rice was edible, but everything else was awful. If we didn't live so far out we would have returned it. The Mongolian beef looked steamed or boiled and tasted of nothing but garlic. Literally the worst customer service ever. We decided awhile back to never visit them again, & then after a few weeks ago finally gave in & ordered. It was delicious! Wanting to order again, I called tonight for take-out. Whoever answered the phone answered, "Tokyo, what?" I asked to place an order for pick-up & she very rudely, & obviously bothered, started raising her voice & yelling about how "She cannot do ANY. MORE. tonight because 'YOU. PEOPLE' have her kitchen so backed up." Okay lady, sorry that people want to give you their money???? I hung up & we will not give another chance. Lesson learned. This place is located, typically for Alaska and especially for Wasilla, in a strip mall between Chepo's Mexican restaurant and an ATV dealer. The place is gorgeous inside - the fountain and fireplace are both a great touch. The waitresses were kind and helpful. They have a huge menu that covers Japanese, Chinese and Sushi. We had a little bit of each. Everything was good. The other reviewer mentioned it being "romantic" and good for her that it was. For me and my kids it was "fun", for the 4 men seated behind us having beer, it was "just a good place to eat", plus the football playoffs were showing on a large tv placed just over the sushi bar. The sushi chefs kept stopping to watch. In fact, the only weirdness (it's Wasilla, there HAS to be a weird moment) was when I asked the waitress what the Chef's choice was written on the lunch special board out front. It said "Mongolian Beef, Rice, Soup and Sushi special chef's choice." She went to the sushi bar and asked the chef and came back and said, "He says he doesn't know yet. He said to tell you it's a surprise." She smiled broadly. Erm, no thanks. I'll stick to the menu. What with the way my life has been lately, I don't want any more surprises and I especially don't want the sushi kind. There was no weirdness after that, I am happy to say and the food was very good. Melt in your mouth delicious salmon sushi rolls with a bit of a campy feel to it next to a fireplace made this the highlight of my trip to Alaska. It was the most romantic night of the trip. We went in the afternoon on that cold winter day in January. We made our way to this secret unsuspecting place. It was cozy and quaint. The owners were gregarious. The atmosphere was not incredibly fancy, nor a complete dive. It was... everything that you would imagine an Alaskan sushi place would be. I was brought back to Twin Peaks. But there were no fish in the percolator. We ordered a variety of rolls. There was so much food. It was all fresh and amazing. But hands down I have never had salmon rolls like I did that day. It was like kobe beef.. melt in your mouth bliss. I have found that some of the best moments are the ones like this... forever tucked away from most of the world but treasured forever by those that are fortunate enough to encounter them. The love affair that didn't last... oh but the memory of this place shall always have a place in my heart that one day perhaps I may return. read more

Talked into trying Tokyo for sushi. I had been and still am convinced if you want good sushi in this state you get your butt on a plane and go to Seattle or Honolulu. That's the closest you'll find outstanding sushi. Now that I got that off my chest, I did cave to trying two specialty rolls here. They were "meh" at best...mostly big balls of rice filler and lots of mayo. Honestly, I would have given a 3-star rating on the food quality alone for "Alaska standards," but since it's the full dining experience it gets a dismal 2-star. Here's why... I was seated at 9pm. When asked if they were closing soon, the server said last order was at 9:30pm and I had plenty of time. We get the food, eat, get handed the bill, I pay with a 20% tip ($8...yes, I'm a good tipper) and after the server grabs the merchant receipt she comes back two minutes later and tells my date and I they were closed and we had to leave (the time was 9:45pm). A Chinese-Japanese fusion restaurant situated in a deserted plaza - granted, I was there around 9:30pm - made me a bit weary of entering. I've been to a few Asian (fusion) restaurants in Anchorage that were hole the wall and mediocre. Asian hole in the wall restaurants in LA are THE BOMB!! Anyway, the menu has two different sides, catering to Japanese and Chinese enthusiasts. We ordered the seafood lo mein and the teriyaki chicken combo. The Lo mein itself was really soggy, yet bland. It came with egg drop soup, which was too salty and thick for my palate. The teriyaki chicken was decent, but really overpriced for what you got. It tasted like the teriyaki chicken from the local Niban (CA), except Niban charges you half the price. The miso soup was decent (generic). I haven't had the sushi, but seeing the prices on the menu are enough to deter me. If I want fresh sushi, I'll just wait a few months and go to Sushi Ota. My boyfriend LOVES Sushi Ota, as it's filled with Japanese people. Anyone who eats at Ota will shell out big money ($$$$) to eat there. Too bad it's 3500 miles away from Wasilla, but I digress. The waitresses are nice, despite ordering takeout. They didn't pack us any chopsticks (even though we're Asian...), but the food came out quick. It's pretty big inside, and this seems like a "happening" place to be (did I just say that?!) on a Friday or Saturday evening. My standard Mongolian beef and sesame chicken dinner with fried rice, is not on the menu. In order for me have this (minus the fried rice because that wasn't a possibility as I was informed) they upcharge me $2. So the total for MY meal alone was $20.95! Are you kidding that's ridiculous! I found myself spitting out half of my sesame chicken because it was too fatty or had a weird taste to it, completely disgusting. Plus, they screwed up my order twice. By the time I got my food, my kids were done eating. I was tempted to tell them to cancel it and take it off my bill, but they assured me it would be right out. However, the egg drop soup was delicious. My daughter ordered the double crunch roll for $16.95, it was good, not great but good. I really regret eating here. This was a waste of time and money.
