Roasted Tomato Soup with toasted bread & Fried Brussel Sprouts
Yvette G.

One of my favorite walk-to neighborhood restaurants in the Mott Haven section of Downtown Bronx. The atmosphere is always casual, tasteful & of course, photos of different Charlies everywhere. The staff is friendly & attentive & service is pretty quick. The brussel sprouts were lightly charred & crispy on the outside & tender on the inside & the soup was creamy & delicious. The burger is big, tasty & packed with garnishes & the french fries were just right.

Chicken Sliders

My daughter and I came here for dinner on our first night visiting the Bronx. The staff was so nice and friendly! We had such a good time here. The fried chicken sandwich and fries is very tasty and the chicken sliders have a different taste profile but just as good. The wine is okay but the hibiscus margarita was much more exciting!

Charlie's is a great spot for brunch that local for a Bronx native like myself. I love that I can get amazing food, good music, and solid service without going too far from home. The food was delicious and the bottomless brunch did its job! I can always count on Charlie's for a solid meal without breaking the bank

My friends kept raving about this restaurant with a great brunch. When I joined them for brunch I wasn't disappointed. We ordered brunch & I ordered a Bellini. I was happy that Bellinis were an option, because many restaurant s don't offer the option. The Bellinis were very good. When my food came the fries were crispy, which is my preference and I didn't ask for them to be cooked that way. The steak was delicious. We were seated in the front of the restaurant where the high top tables are. It wasnt until I went to the restroom that I realized the restaurant was bigger than I thought. There was regular seating in the back on the way to the restrooms. There was live music played during brunch. Overall I had a great experience & I would return.

South Bronx Elixir & Sangria

Nice & cozy spot in the South Bronx, Mott Haven side! Excellent service from the staff as well! Anthony, Edwin & David held it down!! And the Sweet chili wings, Charlie's fried chicken sandwich with the sweet potato fries hit the spot while on my first visit!! Had to check it out again & met some of the other staff (Karla, Paula and another David behind the bar). Had dinner on one visit then tried the brunch!! I hear the Chicken Benny & Shrimp & Grits are dishes you want to try out!!! A friend of mine had the Biscuits & Gravy (Sausage Gravy) which looked good as well!! Overall I had a good time and appreciated the service from them all! Friendly neighborhood spot which has a lot of potential!

The venue is cute and, for a moment, makes you forget you're in the Bronx. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended for me. I'm not sure if there's new ownership or new staff, but my experience this time was deeply disappointing. The BLT--something I've enjoyed here before and was genuinely looking forward to--was awful. The bacon was overcooked and barely there (maybe one strip total). I added chicken, which was oddly served on the side. When I asked why, I was told they didn't want it to "deteriorate." If they meant the bread, that ship had already sailed--the bread was already falling apart. In the past, this sandwich was served on sturdier bread with common sense. That was clearly missing this time. I also ordered a stack of pancakes. They were rubbery and burned. To make matters worse, the most scorched pancake was hidden on the bottom, which felt insulting. Honestly, I don't understand how any self-respecting chef would send out food like that. I'm especially annoyed because I convinced my best friend to come out in snow and rain for what turned out to be subpar food. The only saving grace was Casey (or Kaysey), the bartender--excellent mimosas and genuinely great customer service. I'm still sitting here as I write this, mostly confused and disappointed. Whatever is going on at Charlie's right now, the food has taken a serious turn for the worse.

Chicken and Waffles

Came here with my gf on a Sunday for late brunch. We stood awkwardly at the front door not really sure if we were going to be greeted and seated or it was a self seat situation. After a good 5 minutes, we were finally attended to and put in a seat in the back of the restaurant. Placing our order also took a good ten minutes, where I had to wave someone down to eventually place our order in. And then it took another half hour to eventually be served our food. Luckily, the food tastes great. My gf who ordered the Fried Chicken Benny ($19) enjoyed her meal and was stuffed. That sausage gravy is what makes this dish great. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles ($23) which came with good decent sized buttermilk fried chicken with cheddar waffles. Super filling. The staff member was kind enough to give us 20% off on the entire check to make up for the poor service. Needless to say, if you're on a schedule and this restaurant looks busy, I'd look for another restaurant to dine at.

Wings and bacon
Genie M.

Diamond, the bartender, provided great service as soon as we entered the restaurant. We ordered wings and a caramelized onion omelet with gruyier cheese. And a side of crispy bacon. Everything was good! Relaxing and no stress restaurant! Second time here! I will be back!

Spicy Margarita

Before the yelp event I visited Charlie's once before. This place is located on a quiet block in what is now prime gentrification territory. The outside gives old New York warehouse. Very cute and rustic on the exterior and interior. The tables near the front is well lit- the atmosphere gives elevated pub vibes. Towards the back the lighting is very dim and the bathrooms can be better maintained. The food as always is made with care. The folks that work there seem to be very intentional about their jobs and care of customers. The food- is good. My favorite thing on their menu is their burgers. Like with any great spot - there is something for everybody. No matter what diet you follow you can come here and know you will be fed. All in all I would recommend Charlie's for locals and newcomers.

Ask the Community - Charlies Bar & Kitchen

I would like to celebrate my birthday here. Would you recommend Charlies for a good place to go?

Well, I would hesitate a bit. As the automatic gratuity on the bill might set your guests back a bit. Last night I dined with a friend and 3 children (9 month old, 4 yr old, and 7 year old) making us a party of 5. The gratuity was almost $30.… Read more

Enough space to feel like you're not on top of each other, but not really a place for huge parties. Probably great to do a buyout for birthdays, etc. The happy hour (food & drink) is affordable with a nice selection and runs a good length of time (5-7pm). The non-happy hour menu is the real gem though. A little pricey for the neighborhood, but the quality is on par with cocktail bars down in the villages, so well worth it. Service is quick without being overbearing, and casual without being lazy. Handsome bartender and server. Better to make a reservation later into the night closer to and on the weekend because the space fills up fast. *will update this review when I've tried more of the food*

There's a camaraderie in the room that invites you to slow down, connect, and truly experience both the conversation and the food. Everything feels considered. My best friend and I each ordered the prix fixe menu, and it was a journey from start to finish. I began with the Spicy Corn & Coconut Soup--honestly, unforgettable. The crispy shallots added just the right amount of texture against the velvety base, and each spoonful layered flavor in a way that felt both comforting and elevated. For my main, I had the kichuri, and Chef Alex Guzman absolutely shines here. He is a star--full stop. There's a clarity and confidence in his cooking that you can taste. The cilantro chutney was perfection, and the way the mint lingers alongside the spice... it's the kind of balance that only comes from someone who truly understands their craft. You can feel his care in every bite. I ended with the key lime pie, and all I can say is thank you. The whipped cream was fresh and airy, the lime zest bright without overpowering, and the crust tied everything together beautifully. It felt like a thoughtful, intentional close to an already incredible meal. I highly recommend starting with the guava mocktail, then pairing your main with the fig mocktail--both are perfectly crafted and complement the dishes so well. Also, sit at the bar. It feels like a coffee shop, bar, café, lounge and pre-party stop all at once. The bar staff were "nightclub friendly", they had party energy that this place doesn't warrant. It's cold from the tiles and exposed pipes, yet warm from the wooden walls and historic decorative figures. Maybe the idea is that you show up with your group and shape the experience into whatever you want it to be. Still, I'm of the opinion that it's a shared effort. If I'm coming out and spending my money, I deserve an experience. Let me know who you are, and I can decide if you pass my vibe check.
