Yummo!!! My friends were not leaving without us making a trip for the dough and sugar. I was not excited about getting up early to go get something I try to avoid on the daily, but I have to say it was a pretty great thing to do. Eat some sugar before heading to the beach, duh! We all got different kinds and shared, I can't even tell you my favorite, they were all delicious! We even had some leftover that we took to the beach and fought over later, lol. When we left the line was amazingly long and they had already sold out of one of the chocolate kinds. Someone behind us bought 10 dozen doughnuts for breakfast for a wedding party. Seeing the line outside of Charlie's Donut Truck is a sight to behold. I was amazed that at 6:30a when they opened there was already a long line. The donuts are good (though I still prefer the Donut Hole when I'm down there). I love the idea that they stay open until all the donuts are sold - about 9:30a and are now open 7 days a week (at least during the summer). The chocolate glazed donuts were nice and doughy and were very fresh. If you are down around Alys Beach, SeaCrest or Rosemary Beach you should certainly ride your bike, run or walk over to get some donuts to start your day. read more

Charming Appeal, Good Donuts The initial charm of Charlie's Donut Truck came from the fact that it is actually a donut truck. It is not every day that you come across something like this, and the long line is reason enough to suspect that they serve really good donuts. My family and I noticed the truck one day after all the donuts were sold out, and decided to go earlier to try some donuts. We arrived around 8:00, and the line was so long. After a long forty minutes, we ordered a dozen donuts. There is not a wide variety, mostly different glazed donuts, filled donuts, and a few special ones including maple bacon and sour cream. I went with a simple glazed, and my family tried a sour cream donut, chocolate glazed, and a sprinkle donut. Everyone thought that the donuts were delicious, and would definitely go back another morning. I give Charlie's Donut Truck four stars because they have amazing donuts, but a lack of variety. What happened to the donuts?!?!? My family has been frequent visitors of Charlies (like once a month for five years frequent). Went to Charlies this morning and everything is different. The sour cream donuts are my entire family's favorite and these were much smaller than normal, about half the size and also tasted very different. We also got a couple different types and the red velvet was literally half of the size of the already small sour cream. I'm hoping this was a one time instance of poor products due to the holiday week, but still is was a major disappointment. read more

Love the concept--reminds me of the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck in NYC. BGIC has an occasional bacon ice cream sando, tweets their location, and sell it out within about 20 minutes. Charlie sells the day's current crop of circle cakes 'till they're gone, and then closes up shop. The donuts are great and prices are fair (I mean 25% more when you're talking donuts is pennies), but the concept of selling out and going home puts ME at ease. I'm at the beach for a reason, and by some strange transitive property of relaxation, this makes the experience more pleasurable. Great donut stand on the side of Highway 30A near Alys Beach. We were staying in Rosemary Beach and it was a quick 1 mile walk to Charlie's Donut Truck in the morning. We did not encounter much of a line (maybe because it was mid-August) although there was a steady stream of families in line. The donuts are (obviously) not made on site or in the truck. But that's okay. There are about 12 different donut options like regular glazed, sour cream (some say the best), blueberry cake, blueberry filled (my favorite), and red velvet. They also serve donut holes (a pack of 10 or 12) in cups for little kids too. The truck also serves hot coffee (sorry, no iced coffee) and the prices aren't too bad. read more

Can only speak to three varieties. Glazed, sour cream, and the cinnamon apple fritter. The fritter is good. Large and very sweet, but good. The glazed are just bad. Dry, no glaze, just awful. The sour cream are just----we hadn't had a donut in vet a year and we had those 3 mornings. Buy extra---15 seconds in the microwave the next morning---and boom--no waiting in line. read more

Huge disappointment. I was so looking forward to trying these donuts. We got a blueberry cake, maple bacon and a cup of donut holes. Everything was cold, not just room temp, but chilled, and very dry. The bacon was dried bacon bits. I love donuts and couldn't even eat them. Finished half of each and tossed the rest. My young daughter, who was very ready for breakfast after our bike ride there tried one hole and didn't eat the rest. They seemed to be leftover from a few days ago. Only reason for 2 stars is because the guy was nice and location is beautiful. read more

This was well worth the walk! We stayed in rosemary and woke up at 5:45 and walked for 20 minutes to arrive at 6:05. We were told there was a very long wait normally so we tried to get there as early as possible. There was only one person ahead of us so we got all of the donuts we wanted. Our favorites were the red velvet, cookies and cream, and key lime. Definitely recommend! read more

There is 0 filling and it is just bread and chocolate - the Holland's are great but there younger brother has no filling and this was very disappointing considering this was our last donut of the trip. Worth the bike ride! Make sure you get their early because their hours are literally 6:30 until they sell out, and when we arrived at 8:15 they were already out of several flavors. However, the donuts we did get a chance to order were great! Service was super friendly and fast. Coffee was perfect. Location (20 steps from a small splash pad) can't be beat. There is a lot of construction for Alys beach shops and condos going on at the moment so if you're looking for a quiet breakfast, this isn't your spot. It didn't bother us though! Just left from this place, I was so excited to try it because of a recommendation I received from someone. The area is super cute and fun for kids but I'm highly dissatisfied with the donuts it self. We ordered half a dozen and somehow all of them are cold! Like they came from the fridge cold! I will not be coming back. I'm really sad and disappointed! I had high expections! Maybe I'm a donut snob, but I sorta agree with Dan B. That being said, I gladly spent $32 on two dozen of these donuts and I'd do it again. The girl working in the truck was very nice and welcoming. I tried the glaze, chocolate glaze, chocolate sprinkle, red velvet (with frosting only and with frosting/pecans), maple bacon bar, lemon filled, and the sour cream. Yes, all in the same day. No, not entire donuts. I don't have one of those pills from the hunger games to make you regurgitate so you can eat more. Anyway, the red velvet was a huge hit with the group I was with, as well as the glazed. The common sentiment was these donuts are moist and flavorful. I rode my bike there so I worked off 1/100th of one bite of donut calories. Get there early or you'll be left out. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but the donuts we purchased this morning were horrible. No doubt they were leftover from yesterday and not fresh. They open at 7am on Saturdays and we arrived at 7:45a...so it's not as if we arrived late in the morning and the donuts had been sitting out all day (irony isn't lost on me). Purchased a dozen donut holes, half dozen glazed and two cream filled glazed for $14...very disappointed. To say I've had gas station donuts that tasted fresher is is a given. They tasted so bad, that I considered turning around and taking them back but I wimped out. Instead l, I went home and got tough in the mirror, kinda like Holden Caulfield. By reading the other reviews, it's apparent that we just caught them on a bad day. Was disappointing, however, because I was looking forward to put a doughy balll of glazed paradise in my mouth.
