I should properly notify the Yelp Community this place has reopened & the place restarted February 23, 2036 ( okay place is a little different than previously one but it's back) & pretty much all considered it is back to the glory of the past. They have all the standard things you've been expecting; breakfast and lunch, Lottery, some alcohol but extra note they learned from their fire-fire suppression system. Service is on point & ambiance is not that bad either & I went on last day of February & had coffee, three chocolate chip pancakes & hot Italian sausage. Found this place on Yelp. Iconic looking diner...throwback to an earlier age. The dining car was circa 1941, built in Newark NJ. Stopped in for lunch today with Demanding Dan. Open daily, 6 to 3 on weekdays, fewer hours on weekends. Breakfast served all hours. We were served by Diana, so affable and good at her job that she is up for a "Howdy Award". See pic. DD ordered a CB Reuben (they also have pastrami ones) w a side of FF (Diana did explain the upcharge). I was in the mood for CBH but, since their's is from a can, opted for their fresh baked ham, with HFs, rye, and two over medium. Food came out very fast. I enjoyed my food, especially the rye toast (seriously) which had a really nice carroway kick to it. Ham also a hit. DD rated his rueben 5 star. Prices reasonable, service eggggcellent. Love the 50s diner ambiance! Our server was friendly and attentively refilled water and coffee. The typical diner coffee was piping hot. Mushroom and Swiss omelet was good and the home fries were well done, which is my preference, although not requested. The three pancakes, two eggs, and bacon special was just okay. We expected more blueberries in the pancakes since there was an up-charge. (Lost a point for food and one for the disgusting bathroom. When the place my friends and I were originally supposed to go had a long wait, we ended up stumbling upon Charlie's Diner and we're so glad we did! This place has a very classic diner feel to it. It's definitely very small, but the service is very fast so I don't think there'd ever be too long of a wait for a table. I ordered the soup special which was turkey noodle soup and a pastrami melt. All of our orders were ready within 10 minutes and tasted very homey and delicious. Our waitress was also super friendly and attentive. Walking into Charlie's Diner was like a blast from the past. This little diner in New England had everything you would need if you love an old fashioned American feel. The service was very attentive and made me feel like I was a regular even though it was my first time. I ordered a stack of chocolate chip pancakes that was everything i could've imagined it to be. I love a good diner so when I saw this place I had to stop in. When I arrived the place was packed, usually a good sign. I waited for about 15 minutes for a spot to open up so I could be seated. Once I sat the waitress came over to drop menus and take the drink order. I had coffee, of course. The waitress was kind of pushy, I didn't have much time to look at the menu and she pretty much insisted I order. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, and wheat toast. The coffee was not good. Not sure how you mess up drip coffee but they did. Basically dirty water, no flavor of coffee. After 20 minutes my food showed up. The cheese wasn't even melted in the eggs, but the eggs were very dry. The bacon was limp and greasy. The toast was dry as well. What should have been a very simple breakfast for any diner was very disappointing. Unfortunately this won't be a diner I'll come back too. Holy bat guano, the ham sandwich in this place is outrageous, it is baked bone in ham as tender as a mother's love with real not salty ham flavor. This is some seriously good ham people. The Chicken Florentine soup which they call a cup is a bowl by anybody's measure and it too was delicious, loaded with chicken and spinach. The only criticism is, it was slightly salty for my taste but otherwise a home run. I will return to try other specials as this place seems to have very good diner fare. read more

Went there at 10:00 on a Saturday morning with three kids. We waited maybe five minutes for a booth. Note, if you are more than 4 people it might be really tight from why I could see. Anyway, very quick service with a smile from Julie. I got the hungry man special and walked away completely stuffed(I can eat a lot). My kids ate everything and they usually don't. Typical New England diner, although better preserved and more colorful than most. I had the chili ... it was more watery then I am used to, but mostly I eat canned chili. The chili tasted good and had peppers and a whole bunch of other stuff I like in it, including plenty of beef. My lunch companion had the corned beef and was disappointed. I guess boiled meat is going to be bland unless you infuse it with some sort of flavorful brine or spices. Mustard came to the rescue ... and it was all eaten. I also had a grilled cheese on rye which was fine. Coupled with the chili it was a pretty good lunch. Our waitress disappeared for a bit .. unfortunately when my beverage glass was empty. Came here late on a Sat morning. Old school dinner with friendly, quick service. The fryolator (sp?) was down so they were serving breakfast only. We were in the area viewing the devastation from the recent tornado and boy,Mother Nature sure has an ugly side to her.It's been only a few weeks now and though it's not a hot news item any more,the aftermath is horrific and the area will take some time to recoup.Generally, people are upbeat and in pretty good spirits though. Charlie's is a cute, old-style diner serving fairly typical diner fare and -- one of my personal faves -- hand carved ham... thick, juicy ham cooked on site and carved to order. Yum! There were a few interesting specials (kielbasa omelette, eggs benedict) and some others I forget. Prices were reasonable and our party of 6 was served promptly and efficiently... our coffee mugs were never empty. Solid diner fair. Stopped in on a rainy crummy morning and couldn't be happier with my choice. Sat down and immediately was greeted with a hot cup of coffee. My breakfast order was taken promptly and food was served quickly. There were only 2 other patrons when I walked in, so I would have hoped that there would have been nothing but prompt service. Food was good ordered two eggs and two sausage patties, served with home fries and toast. It was a good way to start the day. Waitress kept re-filling coffee cup until I asked her to stop.
