Solid diner fair. Stopped in on a rainy crummy morning and couldn't be happier with my choice. Sat down and immediately was greeted with a hot cup of coffee. My breakfast order was taken promptly and food was served quickly. There were only 2 other patrons when I walked in, so I would have hoped that there would have been nothing but prompt service. Food was good ordered two eggs and two sausage patties, served with home fries and toast. It was a good way to start the day. Waitress kept re-filling coffee cup until I asked her to stop. She didn't seem to have any issue with me lingering over the paper. As I was leaving half of the work crews for Columbia gas walked in so I was glad to get out of there when I did. I'l try a number of other places, but I know that this is a diner I'll stop at again. read more

I went here with my friend and got the spaghetti which was pretty yummy! I have lived in west side my whole life and never saw this place even though I've driven by it a million times! I think it's one of those diamond in the rough places that you want to go to more than once to try everything on their menu! Learned about Charlie's here on Yelp - I'm traveling on business. Checked it out this morning. I had barely plunked down on a stool at the counter when the waitress asked if I wanted coffee. Served up in a solid mug, it hit the spot on an early workday morning. I ordered two eggs, home fries AND ham and it was in front of me within ten minutes. Poached eggs cooked JUST the way I like 'em. A substantial serving of home fries AND a VERY substantial few slabs of homecooked ham. Yummmmmmmy! $9.04 plus my $3.00 tip (she isn't making a lot waitin' table - so be generous). read more

I always thought Charlie's food was good. Although lately the food has been a bit off. I visited today and noticed my ham was cold, my home fries were cold, and eggs were okay. Secondly, my friend found a hair on their egg. What mostly bothered me was the fact that the chefs were NOT USING GLOVES. I witnessed one of them touch their nose, to then after touch someones toast! The waitresses would serve the orders with their hair untied. All that could lead to cross contamination and it's nasty. read more

In town, visiting a friend who recently relocated to western ma. I stopped in today because I wanted a diner feel. It was very quiet, servers were very attentive, and food came out quick and hot! The home-fries were good and pancakes wee good. Although, I'm a Boston native , living in the Washington, D.C. Currently; It was a surprise that my friend and I were the only BLACKS in the diner. This was the first time I have been here in about thirty years and it still has the best sliced ham. This place is a must for those that appreciate ham that is not too salty and so tender it melts in your mouth. Ordered omelet with spinach, cheese, home fries, and a side of ham. Omelet was spot on, with fillings prepared perfectly. It was cooked a little more than I like but forgotten quickly when I moved on to the home fries which were dynamite. Now to the ham, this place has to be in my top two for ham slices. I kept wondering why it has been so long I have not been here while enjoying ham. I will definitely be back soon. read more

Walk in here and it's 1954 all over again...and that's a good thing! Being from NJ we have a lot of retro looking diners, but this is the real thing. The only "modern" addition is a flat screen TV near the front entrance. This eatery hits all the major points for dining out: Quality, Quantity & Cost Effectiveness. Marooned in MA after a business trip due to Hurricane Sandy, I was looking for a decent breakfast spot rather that the chain joints on the highway. Well, I wasn't disappointed! Had the Triple Play platter and, as you can see from the pix I posted, "the ad was on the plate". Lots of tasty food, well presented and prepared. The ham, sausages and bacon were especially flavorful. Be sure to ask for onions on the home fries if you love them, like I do. A nice touch was that they have Raisin Bread available, something that is rare in other diners. I'll be back in the Springfield area in March on business and you can be certain I'll be stopping here to chow down again! read more

This little whole in the wall is awesome. We (coworkers and I) stumbled across this place as we were in town for a trade show. I love the diner/dive feel and all the memorabilia from an earlier U.S. The food was great and now anytime I am in town I will be making a stop there. My fiancé and I went here for breakfast and were pretty disappointed overall. We didn't feel the prices were all that reasonable considering the products served. Let me start by saying the ham is very tasty. I think that was the highlight. We ordered an omelet and a large breakfast (three meets, eggs and pancakes oh and a side of cold and stale toast with margarine on it - yuck). We feel that any place serving 'banquet style' sausages gets an immediate fail. If I can buy a box of the sausages being served to us for a buck - why would I go out to eat? They gave us the wrong toast with one of our orders and didn't bring the other order of toast until 10 minutes after we started eating (both were cold and stale). It wasn't an extremely busy time so not sure why they were having trouble. They didn't bring butter for the pancakes and we had to ask twice for it. When they gave it to us it was clear they don't use butter it was some other kind of margarine spread - nasty. Service could have been better but, they were pleasant enough to deal with if the food wasn't so subpar perhaps they would have gotten a better rating. This is your typical diner, it looks like one, smells like one and serves food like one. The service was really good, our waitress was friendly and attentive. My daughter had the Irish eggs Benedict and said it was good. My husband had the kielbasa breakfast and against was good. I had the ham breakfast, and ham is the specialty of this diner and it did not disappoint. The home fries were good. We ordered one blueberry pancake and while it was good, it needed more blueberries. So over all the food was good, not excellent hence the 3 stars, but still a nice breakfast spot. read more

This place makes the best breakfast and my husband and I loved going here almost every weekend. The reason for just three stars, the rude waitress who has recently been waiting on us. She is so annoying and rude we are looking for a new breakfast place. Our last impression of the place - walking out after she threw two cups of coffee and cream on the counter with her perpetual scowl on her face and then turns her back on us. I signed up for yelp because of of how terrible this place is. I gave this place an honest few tries but this place is so bad I had to put up a review. I came in for lunch a few weeks ago and tried one of their specials, it was meatball parm. The meatballs taste as if they were previously frozen and did not taste good at all, the sauce tasted as if it was straight out of the can without even salt added. I could over look this so I came back to get breakfast one day. I was in the mood for hash. I asked the waitress if it was homemade and she said it was. When I got the hash I was disappointed, it looked just like the Hormel hash that come out of the can in the grocery store. I cannot believe that this place is trying to pass of canned crap as homemade food. If the lying waitress told me it was not homemade I would of gladly ordered something else. I can over look the cheap food but the lying is the worst. I will never eat at this place again. read more

My husband and I have been going here since we first started dating almost 5 years ago. Quaint diner atomosphere, fantastic food, and very fair prices keep us coming back! This place has been open for years and it's no question why. The ham is one-of-a-kind anything you have that have ham with or in it, the sandwich, the ham plate breakfast you name it, fall off the bone delicious. Prices are reasonable the quantity is awesome and the quality is great. For a delicious breakfast or a decent lunch I would definitely recommend this place. read more

This was a very bad experience there for breakfast. The server was ok and I ordered the standard special of eggs, homefries and bacon with toast. Portion was ok but could taste the burnt dirty grill in food. The potatoes had some added flavor that made them unappealing. They gave me the bill but then added a dollar that was unclear. I asked the manager and she said its because Italian style toast is a special toast and that it listed the additional charge in the menu. So I checked the menu and the extra charge was for raisin bread or a roll. So when she came back she wouldn't take it off and I explained that it was one of the choices the server gave me with the meal for toast. She said how would she know that. The server was 6 ft. Away. Unbelievable. I left 1/2 the meal, manager refused to do anything and said that I will never go again or recommend to others since I work in the hospitality business in Springfield. If you want Real home fries, corned beef hash grilled english muffins and a never ending coffee pour than this is the place. Cooked on site bone in ham daily!
