I stopped by here for breakfast as I was on my way upstate for a hike. I saw the good Yelp reviews and was excited for good food and coffee. I rarely give middling or low reviews so it pains me a bit to do so, but this place is kind of dirty and the coffee isn't great. The food is totally decent, but I think our experience as a whole was soured by a little cockroach skittering across the side wall and eventually on my seat. This could have been a rare coincidence, but the place inside just seemed kind of grimy in general. Our table was gross when we sat down and had to be thoroughly wiped before we could start eating. My girlfriend and I also both smelled super oily the entire rest of our ride in the car, which I think has to do with the grills being so close and open right next to our seats. Overall, since the food was decent and service was good, I still give 3 stars and qualify that perhaps the roach was just an unlucky coincidence, but we certainly won't be going back again. read more

Although Charlie's is a small spot on Bergenline Avenue, their food and service sure does leave a big impression. I went with a traditional breakfast (eggs, bacon, french fries) and it came with a side of some toast, coffee & juice. I also ordered a round of the french toast to taste since the pictures on their menu looked super appetizing. The food was incredible, everything tasted great and although the fries could have been a tad bit better, it was easy to forget since everything else was so good and our waitress was so attentive/kind. The smash burger was not edible. meat was a gray color. not a smash burger at all Unlike like their picture of one in the menu.

Great food and friendly service. We get the huevos rancheros every time -- they prepare them a bit differently than other places but it's by far my favorite take on the dish. If it's not seasoned enough for you, just add a sprinkle of salt to really bring out the flavors. Other things we get are the pancakes or French toast, coffee, and the fresh orange juice. Pleasantly surprised small and local neighborhood spot which reminds me of the many small diners in my home state. They speak Spanish and English which can be difficult to find in the neighborhood. The "presumed" owner, older woman with black hair is an absolute sweetheart always apologizing if they have to increase costs. The coffee is delicious as are the breakfast omelets. The bacon cheeseburger and fries is my go to WFH meal. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food and attention. Please go and leave a larger than normal tip! read more

I'm always on the hunt for a great cheap breakfast place and after seeing the excellent reviews for this place i couldn't wait to try it. Came in Saturday morning for an early breakfast to erase all the damage done on friday night. I ordered an egg & cheese sandwich and my boyfriend got the 2 eggs breakfast platter. The food came out amazingly fast and the waitress was very prompt in taking our order. It seems like this is a real locals spot since the waitress asked if we had ever been before since she didn't recognize us. It's a CASH ONLY restaurant, be warned because I was not aware until it came time to pay the bill. My sandwich was pretty good, i liked the big poppy seed roll it came on. I also ordered french fries with a side of gravy. Fries were cooked perfectly but the gravy was a little lumpy and got cold fast. They didn't have free tap water (like nearly all restaurants do) so I had to buy a poland spring bottle which kind of sucked. This place could also use a good cleaning. It's definitely got a solid divey, greasy old school diner vibe. Kinda skeeved me out but the kitchen/food prep area looked clean enough. Very solid little down home coffee shop. Old school in all the right ways including prices. Extremely affordable , good food, and great service. I'm from California, so parking sucks, but you just have to figure it out and make sure you know the local rules otherwise you can add $39 to the price of your food for the parking ticket. After reading the couple of reviews here, I decided to try Charlie's, since I'm always so desperate for new food options in the area. It's a typical neighborhood greasy spoon, and it's really cheap. This is a diner run by a very welcoming lady who loves to take care of her customers. The restaurant is clean, and has a pretty complete list of brunch items on their menu. You can order a customized omelette (can do egg-whites only) and add from a variety of veggies. The omelette tasted as fresh as one you would make at home. It came with fries. Like any diner, they have coffee and you can customize with a few flavored syrups as well. I also had mozzarella sticks which were really good. The lady looked like she really cares for her diner and works hard to win the customers' business. I would definitely recommend anyone to give this place a try for brunch or even lunch. Do remember they close early, I think about 6pm, so an early dinner can also be on your plate. read more

Service was a little lax when we came in...if you're a regular, you certainly get the attention. We sat at the bar and waited a good 10~15 minutes before someone finally came for our order. They were quite busy which made the wait somewhat bearable but it could have been a better first impression. The food came out super-QUICK. It was hot and fresh too.
