I didn't want to leave a negative review. I promise. I used to love this place. I've been coming here for 20 years. However, in the past month I have been here twice and both times my food was burnt. Visibly burnt. Felt burnt. Tasted burnt. Also one time my order was missing sauce. So clearly the level of quality control has dropped significantly. These are expensive plates. Simple Charlie's Seafood has been around for over 50 years for a reason! They are very consistent and reasonably priced. You're not going to get a better fish sandwich. Been going to Charlie's for half a century! Basic fried clams and fish with fried potatoes or onion rings. They also offer broiled dinners, American burgers, chicken and chowder. Chicken fingers -- hand breaded and freshly made, they were absolutely delicious and I'll go as far as saying they're the best chicken fingers from any take-out restaurant here in Lynn. Haddock Basket -- quite possibly the freshest, best tasting fried haddock in Lynn (it's between them and RF O'Sullivan's). It was very, very good with the crinkle . The tartar sauce? Personally I wasn't a big fan but still used a little. Impossible for me to compare them to what they may have been in the past because I only first tried them about 2 years ago ‍. My mom and I who I came back to visit have been to the usual haunts but not great :( today however I decided to reach out to Charlie's! From the very helpful and pleasant person who took my order and the delivery driver who was very professional and friendly the experience was a 10 but the food!!!!! Seafood is rightfully expensive everywhere , but it's the quality and care that makes the difference. We had two scallop baskets and 1/2 lb of haddock . Everything was hot, fresh and packaged with care. Breading is lite, not greasy and Cooke just right! I am VERY IMPRESSED abs grateful to have such an amazing place in my home town! I can't believe I've never tried this place before! It's so good! I was a little disappointed with the clam chowder though,scant amounts of clams and was served in a tiny plastic container which they microwaved. It was tasty regardless, just wish it had more clams. We then ordered fried clams, shrimp and scallops. YUM!!! The breading is not too heavy and the seafood tasted nice and fresh. French fries were good, as were the onion rings. I had ordered a fisherman's platter from Charlie's seafood which Which was very lackluster I was quoted a price of $25 on the phone when the food got to my home they had a receipt for $42 that they charge my card for a small fisherman's platter it had no onion rings they also had the audacity to put crinkle french fries on the plate instead of fresh fries the wait for delivery was an hour and 29 minutes not to mention all the seafood was extremely cold as was the crinkle french fries that I would not feed a child all the seafood was also unseasoned I am very disappointed they should be ashamed of themselves that they serve food like that and also was dishonest about the price I have been a chef for many years and I have been in the culinary industry for almost 2 decades I would be ashamed of myself if I ever were to serve food like this to anyone and embarrassed I sincerely hope they turn there way that they're conducting business around especially in this great time of need during the COVID-19 crisis with charging customers $42.20 for a fisherman's platter that isn't worth more than $10 very disappointing and lackluster. A good dive restaurant can be great. The food should be good. It need not be inexpensive, it need not be fancy, it's probably not going to be healthy. But it should be good. I did not enjoy the food. Why chop scallops into small chunks to create more surface area for flavorless breading? Looks like some negative reviews revolve around price. Unfortunately this is what seafood costs nowadays. Actually, the prices are decent in comparison to Cape Anne prices. My boys decided they wanted to have a fish platter last night for dinner. Charlie's is two blocks away from my house so I decided to try them out. Showed up about 4:45 PM on a Friday and ordered a jumbo combo platter and 4 pieces of corn on the cob. Seemed they were making it fresh as I waited for the food to be done. I approached the counter, as the man that came in after me received his food first, and watched the girl take my corn out of the microwave. Didn't think anything of it at the time. Got home and got the plates out. Gave the boys their corn and opened the combo platter. I was confronted with cold seafood. The only food that appeared to be hot were the fries. The fish was cold, clams were cold, scallops were cold. You name it and it was cold - but not the fries. Leaves me wondering if the seafood was prepared for me. Impossible for it to have become freezing cold in two blocks. In reference to the food, not only was it cold but not was also not very good. But cold food never really is. Love scallops and is the main reason I wanted the combo. Unfortunately, there is the equivalent to about 1 1/2 sea scallops on the plate as they dice their scallops into 1/2 inch cubes. To appear there are more than there actually are? For $50, I expect a lot higher quality food. I could have taken my boys to a sit down restaurant for the price of the food at Charlie's and it would have definitely been more worth it. read more

A well-lit, clean interior welcomed us to Charlie's on a raw, rainy evening. The neighborhood looks rundown but this place is a beacon, inviting all to step in and get a heaping basket of fried clams or a haddock sandwich with slaw and fries. The girls at the counter were friendly, quick, and accommodating. We were given an ample supply of tartar sauce (8 cups!!) and sent on our way with a tantalizing package of haddock and clams. Not to mention, upon ordering, they ask you how you want your food prepared. The haddock sandwich was fresh and on a neat sesame roll. The fish was tender and fresh - the clams were perfectly cooked, not rubbery like some sub shops that try to sell you seafood. I drive past Charlie's seafood most days a week on the way to my girlfriend's place. From the outside, it looks rather sketchy. A bit "weathered," dark, and next to a liquor store which also looks a bit sketchy. However, with few decent options in the area, we stopped in for some take-out. I was pleasantly surprised upon opening the doors. The inside was bright, and clean, and the counter girl greeted us as we entered. We placed our order - they were out of mozzarella sticks, which was a little disappointing - and paid. Prices were what I expected; on par with similar shops in the area. We waited, and the food was ready quickly. The counter girl was continually pleasant and courteous, chatting with us politely when she passed but not so as to disturb us. The bathrooms were clean. The atmosphere was chill. My food (clam strip plate) was very good, and heated up nicely the next day. My girl got a haddock sandwich. I tried it, I'm not generally a fan of haddock sandwich, so it seemed fine and she seemed to enjoy it. In place of the mozzarella sticks we got the broccoli bites. They were decent, gooey, not really my speed but not offensive. The only thing is they had bacon in them (which the counter girl had advised) so my girl couldn't have any. We recently moved to Lynn and we were told to try Charlie's if we wanted some incredible seafood. Well that was over 6 months ago and we are huge fans! One of the best seafood joints I ever eaten at. And they deliver! We usually go for the shrimp baskets which comes with 6 shrimp, fries and coleslaw. I love their flaky, thin, onion rings and there joint, is a nice, clean place to sit and have a meal. Also their clam chowder is amazing. The only downfall about this place is their prices. Very pricey. We get take out from here about once a month and it's more like a special treat, just because it costs us roughly the same price to go out to an actual restaurant. I wish they would lower their prices but I guess if that was the case, I would gain some unwanted pounds.. If your a seafood lover, then this joint is a must try!! read more
