A friend and I stopped in for lunch this week and were promptly seated in the back room in a booth with the view of the beach. Even though the restaurant was pretty empty, our service was a bit slow. There was only one waitress covering the three tables and it took quite a while to get our order taken. I opted for the baked haddock with onion rings and cole slaw. My friend ordered the baked scallops with a baked potato and broccoli. When our meals came out, we realized that they had put the wrong entrees on each plate. As the scallops were in a dish, it was easy to swap them, although my haddock fell apart when I slid it onto the plate with my sides. The haddock was tasty and moist, with a buttery flavored crust. The onion rings were super crunchy and really good. The cole slaw was decent. My friend's scallops were served super hot and she also enjoyed her meal. Ordered the fried haddock... it was good! I got fried onion rings and coleslaw as my side. Cole slaw was boring. But let me tell you those onion rings were the best I've ever had and I don't know if it's because I'm from a high elevation area and my taste buds are going in overdrive being at sea level but holy hell those onion rings where the best and if I ever make it back again it's only going to be for the onion rings. 4 stars cause the coleslaw sucked lol read more

This place has gone so downhill. It used to be a regular stop for us after a nice day at Nahant Beach, but this is probably the 2nd or 3rd bad visit here and the last time we will ever go here again. They require reservations. Even for bar seating. Even when there are 20+ open tables. Even when the bartender told us very nicely that some spots had just opened up after some customers had just left and to just let the front desk know there was seating available. They still tell you it'll be a 45 minute wait. Guess what Tides? Your food isn't even that good?! And there are restaurants just up the road in Swampscott that are far better menu-wise and service-wise. If you get turned away from this place or are told you have a ridiculous wait for no reason, I highly recommend Mission on the Bay or Dockside Pub nearby. At least when they let you know there is a wait, it is actually because their tables are full. Tides you should be ashamed of yourself. It is almost like they see I'm a person of color and automatically it becomes a 45min-2hr wait. Okay, maybe I'm a little out of line for saying that but quick look around the restaurant and all of their customers are Caucasian and 50yo+, just saying. I went to lunch with my friend on a lovely sunny afternoon. We sat outside on the deck it was a perfect summah day. I got the traditional lobster roll and asparagus it was good, we split onion rings and fries, my friend got a medley of fresh seafood he said it was also good. Service was good, our waiter was attentive. We had a nice lunch. although I did find it strange that we had to make a reservation it was a week day not very busy. I also found it very off putting that the young teenagers that were at the front when we came in could have cared less about us being there they were talking with each other ignoring us. We had an OK lunch at Tides Restaurant & Pub. Tides is located on Nahant Beach, about 30 minutes northeast of Boston, on the North Shore. The food was fine, service was good, and the view was nice. Tides' dedicated parking lot was full so we parked for free on adjacent Wilson Rd. Tides says "reservations are strongly recommended." Our large group of eight got lucky and was seated almost immediately on a Thursday around 1pm. Seating was tight, however, as eight of us had to squeeze in at a single picnic table. The picnic tables on Tides' porch are better suited for six people each. Not a big deal, but it was a bit uncomfortable. The restaurant was busy on an ordinary Thursday afternoon. Tides has a sizable freestanding building and outdoor patio (porch). They also have keno. This place has been around for 25+ years. The atmosphere was casual. You do need to put a shirt over your swimsuit if you're coming from the beach. In this sense, it's not a super-casual beach bar. During our visit, the menu had a fairly extensive selection of drinks (full bar), seafood, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and desserts. Most of our group got beer and lobster rolls. The lobster rolls were on the specials menu. There were two varieties, Lobster Salad Roll and Just Lobster Roll. They were $28 each. Our group got both. Both came with 5 ounces of claw, knuckle, and tail lobster meat on a toasted hot dog bun with a side. The Lobster Salad Roll came with diced celery and mayo while the Just Lobster Roll came plain with drawn butter (melted butter). I'm allergic to lobster so I didn't try one. The rolls looked fresh, delicious, and filling and everyone who ordered one seemed to enjoy it. I had some of the Sweet Chili Glazed Fried Calamari ($16), ordered one of the Baked Scallops entrees for myself ($34), and also had a slice of a large Pepperoni Pizza ($16 for large pizza, +$1 for pepperoni) and some Beer Battered Onion Rings ($4). Everything tasted OK/good. The fried calamari wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but one thing that made it different to me was it came with sweet red peppers. I've eaten a lot of fried calamari appetizers and this was the first that had lots of sweet red peppers included. A unique touch. The Baked Scallops came with my choice of two sides. I chose coleslaw and grilled asparagus. The sides were average. The slaw was mayo-based. The asparagus spears were too chewy, but tasted fine. The Baked Scallops were interesting. It was basically a bowl of scallops, breadcrumbs, and butter. Lots of butter. Simple. Not bad, but not great either. It's not something I'd order again. There were plenty of scallops, so they didn't skimp on the portions. The Pepperoni Pizza was A-OK. Again, nothing out of the ordinary. Just reliable, run-of-the-mill pizza. Like the pizza, the Onion Rings were par for the course. Someone commented that they tasted frozen, not fresh. Our server was friendly, had a good attitude, and did a nice job handling all of our orders (including more beer) and water refills. read more

I came here on a Saturday for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Tides is idyllically located next to Nahant Beach (literally you could walk out of the restaurant onto the sand!) I strongly recommend eating outside if it isn't raining. You couldn't ask for a better view and it's pretty packed inside. The food and service were excellent as well. I highly recommend the stuffed clams on the starter menu. I also ordered the Baked Haddock with lemons and capers which was delicious. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meals. They have signs asking people to not bathe children with sandy feet in the sinks which makes me wonder if that's been an issue recently, but I thought the restrooms were very clean. If you are looking for a casual spot with fresh seafood by the beach look no further! They strongly encourage reservations and you need to call. They do not use Open Table. read more

My son had a reservation for thirteen middle school friends to celebrate his birthday. They were seated, my son started enjoying that experience of being the birthday boy. However, when an additional kid showed up, they refused to simply add an additional seat to the table stating they weren't allow to. When asked if this was a safety or fire code thing, the haughty server simply said "no, we just don't do that." Then they asked my son's mother to leave with all of these kids. Essentially this garbage pale restaurant kicked out a bunch of 13 year olds for no other reason except that they inconvenienced the staff by wanting to add an extra guest. We relocated to Mission on the Bay in Swampscott. They were great! Ask yourself: if a restaurant is uncaring enough to eject a kid and his guests on his birthday (who had reservations & were well behaved & not disruptive) how much care are they putting into how they handled and prepare your food. Surprised at some of the other reviews. We had a great meal and wonderful time sitting outside overlooking Nahant Beach. Service was friendly and prompt for our group of 5. We enjoyed Caesar with grilled chicken, Caesar with steak tips, fried haddock and a Chicken Caesar wrap. I guess it was a Caesaar night. All were fresh, tasty and good sized portions. The beer and wine choices and a few specialty drinks were also excellent. The one caveat here is the parking. There is a small, tight lot for the restaurant only but paid beach parking is nearby. read more

It isn't necessary to visit Cape Cod to get Cape cod seaside ambience, it's right here locally at the end of the Nahant causeway. Overlooking Nahant beach, the restaurant offers, inside, rustic porch and outside seating. I had the halibut sandwich which had a piece of fish that overflows the bun. It was very good, but not exceptional. My lunch mates had a veggie roll and a seafood pasta which they both enjoyed. Like most seafood restaurants overlooking the water, the food is a bit pricey. Parking can be a challenge at lunch or diner. Service is attentive when our server was present, but she needed to check in more frequently. My patronage of the Tides 30 years ago remembers better food, but a less extensive menu. Worth visiting? Yes. read more

My family made reservations on a Sunday around noon. It is a must to make reservations as there were parties waiting and getting seated by the time we arrived. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. Prior to the fire they had, the set up is pretty much the same with the oversized booths but slightly more spacious now. For appetizers, we shared the calamari and the nachos. We had the toppings on the side other than that she's due to preferences of my party. There was plenty of cheese and toppings to go around. I liked that the calamari was served as the rings and as the tentacles, it just made me come back for more. The banana peppers and marinara sauce are a must for sides. Entrées included chicken broccoli Alfredo, steak tips with vegetables, baked scallops with baked potato and asparagus, prime rib with a baked potato and broccoli, and fried seafood plate. Everyone seemed to be satisfied with their orders. The asparagus was ginormous! I found my fried seafood to be very bland however. I felt like it could've use a lot of salt and extra dipping sauce to provide some sort of flavor. Our waitress was really friendly but was a little on the slow side when coming back to check in on us since it was getting busier by then. Overall, it is at a beautiful location right by the water. I knew we'd want food, and it was either this, or go into Swampscott for some Detroit style pizza. I'm glad we stopped. Due to the tornado warning we weren't able to eat outside, but they gave us a hightop table overlooking the water and beach, it was spectacular! Our waitress, Elizabeth, was phenomenal; she was patient and friendly, and a pleasure to talk to. Since we sat around the bar, there was plenty of tvs to watch sports on, while music played over the hum of conversations abundant in this area. the list of drinks they had was great, plenty of variety, and the specialty drinks they offered just added to the impressive collection. we ordered the special shrimp and bacon tacos, which came on quesadilla tortillas! so they were two times the size of a normal taco. and they had to be for the amount of filling they put inside. we'll worth the price! next we ordered the spicy crab pizza special. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't spicy enough for my liking. The jalapeño was a nice touch to bring "the spicy" but the crab needed Old Bay or something to kick it up a notch. Or some sort of chili sauce. Finally we order the French dip sliders, which we had eyed before even ordering, and were delighted to have added these to our meal. they were so delicious. maybe some extra creamy horseradish sauce for next time, but otherwise great as is. Me and a friend were waiting outside by the window for a ride after the beach. Multiple employees were banging at the windows facing outside and whistled at us multiple times. MASSIVE portions and superb value. I don't think I've ever seen such large portions anywhere else. Great ocean views. We vacationed nearby so we enjoyed this place four times in one week. The lobster roll was easily five stars. The clam strips were popular with my crowd and consumed daily. We really loved the fish tacos which could easily have been shared as we ate them for breakfast as leftovers too. The tacos are breaded and not grilled so they are a tad heavy but they use nice large fish fillets with a horseradish slaw that really elevates this. Service always pleasant and expeditious. My really only complaint is the use of styrofoam for take out especially since they are oceanside. read more

Server super friendly and checked on us frequently. The food was well presented. I had the fish tacos which at first I thought it was fried fish sticks, however looks can be deceiving, it was amazing. It was fried to crisp and the first wasn't dry. The sauce went well together. I suggested to my friend since he was a first timer to try their famous steak and cheese sub. He wasn't impressed. He said it tastes like any steak and cheese spot he'd have. I guess they held the crack in his because when I had it before it was like magic!! The tide high punch is a go to, you have to at least have one or try one if your at Tides. This drink will have you thinking you are invincible. Once you have a second or third you probably feel like you can pick up a car! Js However when our bill came, our tab was $73 we gave a $100 bill and the change came back with $7. Our server took $20 which we planned on giving him anyways. We did mention it to the server and made sure it went to him and not the desk or whoever made the change. I guess he was well aware of it because he thought he owed us another $1? Either he was bad at math or he was just oblivious. The whole experience was distasteful. I hope that doesn't happen often and that we were just the lucky ones! Date night a week or so ago, brought us to Tides Nahant Beach. Appetizer: The fried calamari was absolutely fabulous! Perfectly cooked and not greasy at all! Entrees: I got the baked scallops with Cole slaw and mac & cheese (a treat for me). The scallops were great, the cole slaw tasted great but it was a bit dry, and the mac & cheese, too, tasted great but it was a bit runny. My hunny had the lobster ravioli with grilled asparagus. The ravs were delish as always, but I was recently spoiled by the lobster ravioli at Rino's Place and these don't even come close in comparison. Let me reiterate that they were delish! The asparagus was good too, however, before they were grilled, they could have use a dousing of EVOO & garlic powder (they were a bit dry & lack luster). Service: First let me make it clear that it was later on in the evening and it wasn't busy at that point (our server only had 3 tables, ours included). Our server was very pleasant, but with almost every interaction with her (or lack thereof), she had to keep saying "I'm sorry". The need to say it once or twice is one thing, but to have to say it repeatedly is unacceptable. She needs to get her act together. No, she wasn't new. She didn't appeared frazzled or distraught. She just needs to be better! Cleanliness: The restaurant overall was very clean, and the servers were great about keeping things well kept and sprayed down. Sadly though, the bathroom needed some attention. There was toilet paper all over the floor and it was dusty (literally). Side note: I would be remiss if I didn't mention the incredible ocean view! The Tides is a go to spot for all the locals and beach goers. I've been frequenting this establishment since I was a young boy. It was also my lunch spot during my years as a Lifeguard on Nahant Beach. Which by the way the Tides overlooks the beach so you always have beautiful views and during the summer hang out and have drinks/lunch on the deck it's always a great time. The food is great. full menu of apps, pizzas, sandwiches and full solid delicious meals. The servers are knowledgeable and polite. they have a private lot for guests only. FYI don't park in the lot if your going to the beach they do tow... Give them a try, ask for a seat with a view.. I give the Tides a Solid 4 Stars. read more

The patio seating set up is ideal to feel safe and enjoy some food while overlooking the ocean, and the staff was great as well. The biggest hit on the menu for me was the chowda fries -- thick steak fries piled with hot clam chowder, bacon bits and melted cheese. I haven't had French fries in a while, and this really hit the spot. I ordered the fried fish tacos for my main meal, which didn't hold up as well. They were pretty dry and could have used some more sauce. I also tried a slice of the Spicy Shrimp and Blue Cheese specialty pizza and was left wanting more flavor. The shrimp weren't really too spicy, and the blue cheese is more just a dipping sauce on the side than baked into the pizza like I was expecting.
