Let me start by saying at age 53 I'd never had any surgeries, and never expected to be meeting plastic surgeons, ever. I am into eastern medicine, yoga, supplements and etc. I was upset about the idea of surgery. I interviewed four plastic surgeons over the course of two months, as well as talking to many other patients online and on Facebook about breast surgery. In the end, Dr. La Via stood out because she really listened deeply, answered every question in detail, was honest, kind and direct about what to expect. I felt she was a perfectionist and that she was able to see me as a person and guide me to the best option, not just physically and aesthetically, but emotionally. Not all surgeons can do this. I also knew she was my dermatologist's surgeon, which inspired my trust. Dr. La Via helped me make tough decisions about the way my procedure would go. All the reviews are 100% correct on breast surgeries, I could vouch for that since I had both breast done because of leakage from a previous surgery, however I would not recommend anyone to do a tummy tuck. My stomach was bulging out and I looked like I was 5 months pregnant, I also had what you call a curtain belly, slightly hanging, hated it, had a 24" waist before my pregnancies. After surgery the slight curtain belly was gone, the tummy was more protruding than before, instead of looking like I was 5 months pregnant, after surgery I looked more like I was 7 months pregnant. Dr Charlotta La Via had no explanation, she had no idea why my belly was larger than before. No refund, no redoing, money lost, pain suffered, make sure you get the right doctor for your procedure. Absolutely the best doctor's visits I've ever had in my life. Hyperbolic? Sure. But also true. I was pretty apprehensive about going to see a "plastic surgeon" for my very minor procedure because I was expecting to be laughed at when it comes to having this tiny thing removed from my face. My silicone inserts were leaking and they had to be removed. I was referred to Dr. La Via to do my surgery. Not only does she have an amazing bedside manner but she is also an excellent surgeon. I had ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN AFTER my surgery. (I had my breasts done over 40 years ago where they cut under the breasts to put in the silicone bags.) I am currently in recovery after having a breast reduction. I went to several doctors looking for the right one. I was blessed to find this woman and her staff. I have been wanting a breast reduction for as long as I can remember. I was referred to Dr. La Via through a friend that also got a breast reduction. I had my surgery 2 months ago and it has changed my life. Dr. La Via did an incredible job and has been right by my side through the whole process. I had THE BEST experience with Dr. La Via. After years of considering breast reduction surgery I found her, and have not been happier! Dr. La Via is straight to the point, explained the whole procedure (with a drawing and everything) at my first consultation, as well as the before/during/after procedure. I had the procedure at St. Johns and everything went super smoothly, the entire staff was great and there was no concern/risk for COVID. I did have to take a COVID test a week prior to surgery and had to quarantine at home for a week, so that was not ideal. I was able to resume activities (within reason) in about a week and never had any pain after surgery and didn't even have to take any strong meds. Dr. La Via was super attentive, responsive when I emailed/called with concerns and I am so happy to have found her! The end result could not have been closer to what I had imagined and I cannot wait for my new batch of bikinis to come in. I had the good and bad fortune of having been referred to Dr. LaVia a few years ago...the bad fortune was that it was as a result of breast cancer (surgery, chemo, radiation and a rough road)...the good fortune is that I met an exceptional doctor: Dr. LaVia was an absolute godsend. Due to a few complications with my case (related to my condition, not her work), she has done surgery on me a couple of times now and has been the best doctor anyone could hope to have managing his/her case. From the first time I met her, she was extraordinarily kind, professional, helpful, informed and informative. I had seen one surgeon prior, who left me in tears by the time I left his office. Upon my first meeting with her, Dr. LaVia immediately addressed my issues with knowledge, confidence, expertise and thoughtfulness. She cares not only about the physical condition of her patients, but is acutely attentive to the emotional aspects as well. She personifies excellence, on many levels. As for the office staff, they certainly are a well matched complement to Dr. LaVia. I am a breast cancer survivor, now thriver. My original breast reconstruction on my right breast had many issues including that the implant was too small and the mastectomy scars were ugly. My oncologist recommended Dr. La Via as she had performed surgery for his own daughter. He said her work was "artistry." Then, not long after his recommendation, a colleague told me she had a breast reduction and her recommendation? Dr. La Via. Well, they were both correct in their assertions. Dr. La Via's work is impeccable. My scars are greatly reduced and the breast is looking as it should. I am feeling "whole" again. If you want increased size with implants, implants removed, reduction, reconstruction - whatever it may be - I have never seen work so good. I recommend an office visit to see her before and after work (the BEST I've seen and I've seen a lot after many surgeries before finding Dr. La Via) and meet Dr. La Via herself. She is kind, personable and direct. She will tell you what is possible and what isn't possible and the kind of results you can anticipate. I am so very thankful I found Dr. La Via!! I literally had to change insurance companies just to make that work, and it took 10 months to do it, but I'm so happy I did. I wanted to have my breast implants removed, not replaced. My previous insurance covered a different doctor who made some very dubious suggestions about my procedure and outcome, then tried to upsell me over and over again on immediately putting in new implants or doing a breast reduction, telling me that I needed it! He didn't even bother to do any imaging, then scheduled a 5-6 hour surgery (I can only imagine it's because he was going in blind without the imaging). Also, never confirmed that insurance allowed the coverage. When I went to Dr. La Via, she was amazing. Not only was she comfortable and experienced with successful implant removal, she was very encouraging and informative. She didn't just tell me what, she told me WHY, which is so important to me. No, it wouldn't look amazing right away. Her advice: it was essential to remove and NOT replace for at least 3-6 months, because my problem was with encapsulation, the body's scarring mechanism that keeps activated for months after removal, and would only encapsulate again if immediately replaced. Why not try to see how I like living without them first? (Yes!!!) You can always replace later once the scarring response (hopefully) goes away. In my opinion, that other doctor must have known the same thing, but I can't decide if it's worse if he was ignorant, or greedy for the upsell, or that he was too inexperienced to trust the outcome. She arrived early the morning of the surgery, just to make sure everything was ok, and called me from her cell phone that night to check in again, and make sure I understood all the post-surgery instructions. Her suggestions have all been very practical, and always considerate of my needs. Her staff, Matt and Gia, are also amazingly supportive and thorough. Together, they made sure I had the correct imaging that would show not only where the damage was, and recommend a shorter 2-3 hour surgery (less time on anesthesia, thank you!), but it also forced the insurance company to pre-approve, even though coverage was supposed to be indicated, they can sometimes back out for various reasons. I was covered! Not to mention the surgery center experience was pretty close to a spa experience. So far, I feel so much better without them, and I can see daily improvement in how they look. If you are facing the decision as to whether to remove or replace your breast implants, READ THIS REVIEW FIRST. I've never previously taken the time, nor have I been motivated to write a review for a person or a product, but I've recently been through a process of healing that prompted me to write this review for Dr. La Via. Many years ago when I was young, I felt the need to get breast implants. Soon after, they became overly firm - "encapsulated" - and very uncomfortable. Decades passed, but I was not yet ready and able to face the overwhelming prospect of making a decision to remove them or replace them. Eventually, it was time to make a decision and I sought out the best surgeons in this field in the Los Angeles area. The consultations themselves were a couple hundred dollars, but I was motivated to research my very best option. Three (male) doctors all concurred.....that I should indeed replace the implants, rather than remove them altogether, that even after getting a lift and reconstructive surgery, I would never be happy with the result without implants. I really did not want to replace the implants, but on the other hand, I didn't want to feel horrible about my body and to look weird. Still unsure, I found one more surgeon to consult with and that was Dr. Charlotta La Via. She explored my feelings with me, and I explained that although I wish I had the nerve to remove them altogether, not worrying about the result and others' and my own opinion of my breasts, that I just didn't have the nerve to do it based on all the other surgeons' professional opinions. Imagine my surprise when Dr. La Via told me that she felt that my result would be EXCELLENT, if I removed them. Yes, I would need a lift and reconstruction, but she felt I would feel happy and free with them removed. She insisted that she felt I would be happy with the result. She said that women actually grow some breast tissue as they age, and that although I would indeed have small breasts, that they would be just fine, and I would be free of my concerns that I had something in my body that was toxic. Well, that was really shocking to hear, because she was so confident and certain of a good outcome, even in the face of three other opinions that stated the opposite conclusion. Even more shocking was that each and every one of the other three male surgeons quoted their fee that was considerably more expensive than what Dr. La Via's fee was. In one case the other doctor's fee was almost three times higher! Because Dr. La Via was so calmly confident in the result she thought she would obtain as a surgeon, I went ahead with the operation, and I am absolutely delighted with the outcome! I now wonder why I agonized and waited so long to do this! It's been seven weeks now post-surgery and I am overjoyed that I made the decision to have Dr. La Via do the removal and reconstruction. She's a lovely, caring surgeon, with a wonderful staff.
