My wife bought me an ebike for my birthday and it turns out it was damaged - the front sprocket was bent and it wouldn't hold the chain. Annoying and I had taken it to a bike shop in New England who said they'd have to order a replacement. Nope, that won't work. Today, I brought it in to Charlotte Cycles and the dude just... fixed it. Put it up on the rack, whipped out a wrench and basically, manhandled the sprocket back into alignment. What? You can do that? And then, he tightened the brakes and made sure the rest of the bike was in good shape, even adding air to the tires. "What do I owe you?" "Nothing. Just come back to us when you need service." I stopped by and immediately realized Charlotte Cycles is on a BY APPOINTMENT only operation (during COVID), but as I was reading the signage on the door, it opened and one of their staffers came out to ask what I needed help with. My road bike tire had been giving me all kinds of trouble getting it back on and I just wanted to see if there was a "trick" that could be easily shown to get the tire back onto the rim. After the staffer tried for a couple minutes, she asked another staffer, Daniel to help out. Daniel was receiving a shipment of new merchandise so he helped once the delivery was done. He had to go get a tool to get the tire back onto the rim and then I asked him to do the back tire as well (since I didn't have the tool at home). Took him about 5min to do it (in-between appointments). I'm super lucky for them to have fit me in. Next time I will make an appointment, but he got me back on the road with my new tires. To be honest, I only stopped by here cause they were opened before some of the other shops in the area, but I really lucked out since they were super nice and accommodating. I stayed outside the entire time, but I assume they have a lot of bikes in their showroom. If I do decide to finally buy a road bike (get sick of my tri-bike) I would go here to browse (maybe after the pandemic). read more

So I really struggled with writing this review, because I really wanted to like this place, but alas, it just didn't work out. I found them via Yelp and because of the great reviews, decided to give them a try. I recently relocated to Charlotte, and I needed a tuneup on my mountain bike as well as my sprocket swapped out because the teeth were ground down in a couple of places. I have a pretty expensive E bike and they have a reputation as one of the original E bike shops in town so I thought this was the place to go. While customer service was pretty receptive, my overall service experience was less than desired. They kept the bike for a couple of days and called me back to let me know that I could pick it up because it was ready to ride. While I should've test drove the bike at the shop, trust of these guys had done that themselves so I took off. Immediately upon hitting the trail my chain started popping off.I unfortunately ended up with a new sprocket that did not fit my bike and kept popping the chain. When I took the bike back to see if they could figure out a new solution, they instead put my old sprocket back on the bike and promptly returned it to me without really explaining why they weren't able to fix it or what other solutions could be tried. I did appreciate the job they did on the rest of the bike but for the money I paid I ended up essentially spending about $350 on what amounted to an overpriced tuneup. My chain is still popping off so I'm still going to need to find another bike shop to get this problem fixed. read more

The frame broke on a ride 6 weeks ago and in all the research I did, I thought I would be forced to purchase a new bike as there is no aftermarket option for this part replacement. Chris coordinated with me on all the info Giant needed for the replacement. Even though the part was out of warranty, the replacement was approved and was provided without cost. I have had varying experiences with CC. First I'd like to give Kudos to Mary who is a great person and a great problem solver. I would like to encourage the owner of Charlotte Cycles to do a little customer service training with his employees. First, they should look like they care that you walked in the door. They should greet you with Hello and a smile. They should troubleshoot on product applicability. I have asked questions about products and there was absolutely no interest in someone digging a bit deeper to find out what I was needing and what might work for me. PS. I came here based on the reviews and to replace two inner tubes on my bike. It was my first time ever changing tubes in a bike so I wasn't well versed in what was needed. I did buy two at target but the ended up being the wrong size. The staff came to my car to look at it and said I'd need to buy a new tube. No problem. They have a deal on their Yelp saying 25% for tube purchase and then $5 for $10 deal. If both are posted I imagined you could use both. I was not treated very well when I asked and it very honestly left a poor taste in my mouth when I was met with "pick one discount or the other you can't use both". Geez ok then don't post both. You're going to get that question. I really would never return here JUST based in first time treatment. Paid for my two tubes and would sadly not recommend. Go someplace where the treatment is at the very least humane. read more

Brought in a OLD bike and the guys immediately took a look at it. They filled up the tires free of charge and, after a little poking and prodding, we decided to swap out both the tires and the tubes. They had some good options on hand and the change took a matter of minutes. While we were waiting, someone showed us the helmet options--everything from the low cost standard to the high end racer helmets and mountain biking with visor choices. We went middle ground, and also chatted through other accessories (lights, pedal clips, new seat, lock, etc.), but weren't pressured to get anything. The seat was adjusted and re-lubed for us. After a spin around the block, we came back and they tweaked the gear changer and showed us how to do it on our own in the future. For the helmet, two tires, and two tubes (we were only charged labor for the tire changes), the total including tax was $120. And we were out on our way right then and there. Plus, while we were inside, the crew was hilarious to chat with. The location is residential--feels like you're in a neighborhood because you are. But it's so close to the Sugar Creek greenway that it's a great starting or ending point. It's a bit far for me to walk my bike to on a regular basis, but when it comes to getting something done to kick off a ride in the area, it was great. read more

I wanted a floor stand but they didn't have any so I landed on a kickstand for a temporary solution. Daniel went completely above and beyond to find a kickstand solution that would mount up properly and didn't even make fun of me for putting one on my mountain bike As it so happens am looking to add to the stable here in the near future and get some items taken care of on my current ride. Daniel explained the differences in pedal assist, throttle control, hub drive and mid drive. Just to give a little bit of the history here with Charlotte cycles. My family over the past two years has purchased a total of 4 electric bikes from this store. Totaling I believe just under $15,000. Why is this important that I'm sharing this with you? When you purchase a bike from a bike store you are not only buying the bike, you are also developing a relationship with that bike store. They will be the one's servicing your bike and providing you with any warranty issues that you may encounter. I am not someone who generally goes online to share my experience, however in this situation I feel I would be doing the cycling community a disservice to keep this to myself. I was born and raised here in Charlotte and I owe that to my community. My original experience with Charlotte Cycles was a great one! This is why I returned to buy a second electric bike for my wife. Unfortunately this is where my good experience stopped. The relationship started turning sour when my bike started having issues. First of all, any issue that I encountered with my bike for some reason or another wasn't covered under the warranty? They had a different but clever response for every issue that I had. On the second or third problem with my bike things started to turn really bad. This is when they started ignoring my phone calls. When they did answer they were rude and disrespectful. I believe the only reason I got through was because I called from a number they didn't recognize.The owner failed to return multiple messages that I left for him on their voicemail asking for help. They failed to let me know when parts arrived that they ordering for me. When I called to check in on the parts and was curious why nobody notified me they had arrived after two full weeks of waiting they had the audacity to blame me for a failure in my communication??? They sold me parts that were unnecessary and that I did not need for my bike. I only found this out after taking it to another bike store that I happened to be close to. This is just deceitful bad business! Leading your customers in the direction of your profits selling them unnecessary parts. You are essentially leading the blind here we are counting on honest service for our equipment. This is the epitome of a self-serving business and not the way you treat your customers! Especially!!! when they have returned and made multiple purchases. I am a huge advocate of local business and am very sad to say that this has been my experience with Charlotte cycles. I used the Groupon for a basic bike tuneup here. They did a very thorough job cleaning my bike (do a lot of biking in the rain), calibrating the brakes, and fixing some shifting issues. These guys are top notch.. in fact they did a MUCH better job tuning up my bike than the trek store in north Charlotte. The guys are super friendly and eager to answer any questions. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their work. Only reason why I'm taking off a star is its a little pricey. Had both of my brake pads replaced and they charged me $40 bucks for the parts/labor. If I had known it costed that much, I would've done it myself. read more

I'd like to say first that I've been to this shop twice to change my tire on my electric scooter. Both times, they were eager to learn more about the scooters, figured out how to do it (with my help) and changed my tire with no issues at a fair price($15). It was a great experience for both of us. But then, I brought my scooter in again for a tire change, and they flat out refused to do it! And the best reason they could come up with was "It wasn't worth their time." The tire change should only take about 30 - 45 minutes at the worst. I tried to be reasonable and offered to pay more for the service, but they still refused. Not sure if the shop is under new management, but its seems they've become too good to serve lowly electric scooter riders like myself. What a shame. read more
