    mah bike, from tfk

My beautiful bike was purchased at a pretty reasonable price from this not-for-profit program. The space is huge, with the workshop area occupying the large front room and the entire back area devoted to finished bikes offered up to the public at prices ranging from $50 (fixies and old, well worn stuff) to $300 and above (perfect vintage bikes ready to hit the road). Everything in the back room is ready to ride, and also available to test, so take your time. Trips For Kids functions as an afterschool program and gets some of its funding from people purchasing these finished bikes. Kids from the surrounding neighborhood (Belmont + NoDa mainly) come here and learn how to build bikes from the bottom up, what each part does and its proper name, and some business skills, as their creations are what fund their trips and parties. Volunteering here is a great idea if you love bikes and want to lend some time to an awesome local branch of a super cool program. Cash only.

To kick off Bike! Charlotte week, we thought it only appropriate to upgrade my husband's $40 Craigslist bike. First stop on the Elizabeth-Noda bike exertion was the ReCyclery. As soon as you walk in, there is a long row of bike with a sign that says Earn-A-Bike. Man! So you're saying I can't buy any of these bikes? Turns out the Recyclery only sell about 25% of the bikes they receive as donations or build themselves. The other 25% get broken up for parts or scrapped. Majority of the bikes go to this amazing program to help at risk children earn a bike by taking their education classes on bike safety, maintenance and repair. After completing the program the kids receive a bike, helmet and valuable life lessons. Overall, great selection on bikes. Most of the bikes are not in mint condition but that's to be expected with a name like ReCyclery. We saw a few Trek bikes with a steal of a price and a mom drove out of there in what appeared to be a bike / stroller looking contraption (really cool). Unfortunately, we didn't make a purchase there today but one of the employees provided us with a wealth of information on picking the best bike for our body types. I hope you guys check this place out. Whether to make a purchase, donate your unused bikes or put in a few hours volunteering; you can't go wrong with this amazing organization!

Best priced shop around. They can't always fix everything, but for the simple stuff there's no place better!

I went the Re-Cyclery to donate my 1990s Fuji bicycle and look for a refurbished bike to replace it.

The place was actually hard to find despite the super clear google maps directions. I blame the odd…read moresignage (one shirted dummy, seated; words at the top of a window which are largely covered by an awning; text atop that awning with a different name on it!) as I definitely saw and identified the location to the left and the two boutiques to the right as I ride right past this main event. I literally thought this place was a vintage shop based on the branding I could see and the TIKI STATUE in the main window display. The location itself was neat and clean, and totally packed. I was impressed with all of the inventory they had. That said, I didn't know what some of it was and I couldn't tell what a lot of it cost. Clarity of labeling is important to keep things from feeling like clutter and to allow customers to help themselves. Also, I just didn't really feel the love which tells me that at this location customers do have to help themselves. I came by to see what the place was all about and what kind of services were offered but didn't really find that out. Did speak with someone who appeared to be working and it looked like there was a huge shop area in the back but I didn't really get a sense for what was going on, what was available, who would be helping me/my new baby girl (haven't named her, yet), etc. I'll definitely check them out again if/when I've got something specific going on, but this visit felt pretty average. If you're going to help me with my wheels, I want to feel like you love her, too. Even if she's been around the block a time or two!
