I absolutely can not rate this place high enough. 5 stars is simply not enough to describe how great this place is. I went in recently with some broken, cheap aviators that were my great grandfathers. Both of the temples were broken and I was unable to even get the screws out to try and replace them with some cheap temples. I walked into Angel Eyes ready for a change. I had read all the positive reviews and had a good feeling. I told Awilda I needed new frames and wanted some I would be excited about. I have had glasses since the age of four but have preferred contacts for years, as I am far-sighted with a very strong prescription. Awilda quickly assessed my face shape and selected frames that were more flattering than any I'd worn before. After about an hour with her and Justin, I landed on four pairs. I have since come back for more. They all look great, and they are also the most comfortable glasses I've worn. I've never had lenses this thin and lightweight before. The prices were also extremely reasonable. Awilda's artistry is not to be underestimated: she has an amazing eye and fashion sense. Great shop for multiple reasons. Well curated selection of frames, and Awilda and Justin provided helpful suggestion and feedback. They also made the extra effort twice to make sure I had replacement glasses when I needed them. First, I came in just 15 minutes to close hoping for a quick fix on some broken frames. The frames were custom with unique hinges so they could not be fixed on the spot, but Awilda provided a quick solution. She suggested I pick replacement frames of the same size and shape and she could insert my lenses from the broken frames. I walked out 15 minutes later with new glasses in time for my evening meeting. Second, I lost my glasses and needed new ones on a short time table before I left on vacation. Awilda is the bomb. Period. I've briefly shopped at chain stores to get my lenses replaced due to a prescription change. I have a rimless frame, so my lenses are a bit tricker to cut, but nothing a professional can't handle. Awilda charged me way less and actually has access to vendors that knew how to cut my type of lens. Lenscrafters didn't. I also later wanted to thin out my lenses after getting my glasses back. Awilda just charged me an additional $85 for the adjustment fee vs. putting in an entirely new order and charging me $300+ for a new set of lenses. I happily paid the $85. Awilda really knows her stuff and will take good care of you. She's also a really pleasant lady who radiants joy. I have been going to Angel Eyes for several years for contact lenses and have always had pleasant experiences. The prices are great and Awilda and the crew are wonderful. When I began having trouble with my most recent lens prescription, Awilda climbed mountains to find a solution. She provided me with trial pairs but to no avail. Amazing place. After having a nightmare at Cohen's Fashion Optical with multiple employees trying to bamboozle me, I went to Angel Eyes Optical instead to get new prescription lenses for my glasses. Awilda was incredibly transparent about the pricing, gave me contacts to hold me over until the glasses arrived, and was even able to get me a contacts supply at a very reasonable price the next day. I went in to the shop on Monday, dropped of my glasses and left with a few pairs of contacts to tide me over (note that at Cohen's even after paying a fitting fee, they only gave me ONE pair of daily contacts). The glasses were amazingly available Wednesday, only two days after I had dropped them off! Incredible turn around, and Awilda took the extra step to properly adjust my tricky glasses. All in all a truly wonderful experience - Awilda actually cares about her customers and provides top tier service. No frills is how I would describe this place. My prescription had expired and I was down to my last pair of contacts. Most places make you pay for an eyeglass exam, and then charge an additional fee for the contact lens exam. After calling several stores, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Angel Eyes offered a contact lens exam only - making it significantly less expensive than the other places. So I made an appointment. The eye doctor was not Awilda from the reviews, but a man who never bothered to introduce himself. The exam room is in the basement, which was kind of weird. He told me I could probably get by with less strong prescription if I wanted. (What I want is for the doctor to tell me exactly what my prescription should be.) He gave me a sample pair of contacts with this new prescription and told me to try them out for a few days, then I could come back and say if I liked them, or wanted my old prescription. As soon as I left, I knew I hated the new prescription but because of my work scheduled and their office hours I wasn't able to return until the following weekend. When I went in, I found out there is no eye doctor in the office on the weekends, so I couldn't get my prescription (with my old strength) until the following Wednesday (a fact they didn't mention when I asked them what their hours were and discussed coming back on the weekend). The moral of the story is you get what you pay for. It was far less expensive than other places, but I'm not sure it was worth the hassle of having to go there three times before I could get my prescription filled. read more

I was considering purchasing a second pair of glasses from SEE, but after what felt to me to be obviously opportunistic "help" from a sales associate who wanted to sell me a pair of glasses that didn't fit simply so she could gain a commission, I bolted. Awilda has great taste and is able to help you select that frames that are just right for your personality and face. I ordered my first pair of progressive lenses, which I had avoided for years after hearing horror stories about people not being happy with them. In December I visited a Cohen Fashion Optical store and came away unsatisfied with their products and service. Having paid $700 for two pairs of glasses, which were the alternative choice I was offered following a poor experience with the multi-focal (progressive) lenses I wanted originally (they were difficult to use and were constantly getting dirty on the inside more then the outside), I felt poorly treated, and that I should have been given better options. Two months later, after explaining my situation to a co-aworker, she referred me to her cousin, Awilda, who owns Angel Eyes Optical at 2662 Broadway and 102nd Street. I paid her a visit and explained the frustration I experienced with Cohen Fashion Optical. Awilda inspected the frames I purchased from Cohen, then patiently spent 2 hours explaining to me what was wrong (poor quality) with the progressive lenses I had purchased, and how progressive eyewear should work. She told me that it was standard policy at Angel Eyes Optical that if a customer is not happy with their purchase of progressive lenses, they have 90 days to receive a refund of the cost and are given other options to satisfy the customer's preferences. I ordered a new pair of progressive lenses from a manufacturer that Awilda recommended. I picked them up a week later and was amazed at how well these high quality progressive lenses (which cost me $660, less than my Cohen order!) worked. I left the store happy that I'd been able to find progressive lenses that worked so well for me, and felt that the $660 was well spent. They even stay clean. Thank you, Angel Eyes! Let me start by admitting that I am every optician's worst nightmare: my left ear is barely there due to a birth defect (think: a small dumpling) and I have a cochlear implant (hearing aid) that generates awful feedback when something (like glasses frames) bumps into it. I am fortunate to only need reading glasses, but even those always took me ages to find, and I was pretty much reconciled with the idea that I will never have a comfortable pair. However, Awilda produced FIVE amazingly comfortable, well-fitting options for me within the first 30 seconds of my explaining of my exact issues.
