Came here on a Christmas Eve yarn crawl with my in laws and husband while visiting town for Christmas. Charlotte yarn was a great stop with a great variety of yarns to choose from including local spun and dyed yarns (one of which my mother in law bought for me as part of my Christmas gift!). The service was friendly and I love that they offer knitting classes and do knitting circles! The yarn values range from single digits (like the 100% cotton skeins I purchased) to low 30s (like the skein my mother in law bought me) - I'd say it's a typical range for a yarn store! My folks recommended this shop which sells a variety of knitting, crochet, embroidery, and needlepoint supplies. This shares a parking lot with Harris Teeter - you should be able to find parking in the morning or early afternoon. It's a small shop on the right side of the plaza. The embroidery and needlepoint supplies are at the front of the store, yarns are on the right and left side of the shop. In the front right corner and back right corner are places where people can sit - I think there was a knitting session taking place when I came in, as people were working on projects. (These are likely the same spaces for classes taught there.) They have many sample projects on display by the respective yarns used, which help give people ideas and inspiration for what they could do with the yarns. Speaking of which, they have a unique offering of them in various blends and fibers. I didn't buy anything but I'd come back here if I had a project in mind. read more

If you want to get your knitting on, check this place out! I ended up coming here on a Tuesday night for a beginners knitting class since I've always wanted to learn how to knit. It's nestled in a nice shopping area with a lot of parking spaces. (I like to have my easy parking spaces.) When you walk in, get ready to feel the crafty vibes in the store. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a warm smile. I did a lap around the store, keep in mind that it's small, but with a cozy feeling. There are so many yarn options and tools to chose from! There are also a lot of displays so you can get a feel for what type of project you would like to work on. I had checked out and everyone in the store was so warm and caring asking if I needed any other items or if I had any questions to what I had bought. Didn't have any since I was just waiting for class to start. Definitely come and check out the classes as the instructor, Sandy, is just wonderful! She was patient with all of her students...okay, I was the difficult student that kept messing up, but she never lost faith in me and assured me that I would know how to knit by the end of class. All the students also received helpful worksheet papers to take home and help us guide us. Even during the class, Sandy stated that if you ever need help in regards to a knitting pattern, we can always feel free to stop by the store and someone would be able to help us. That is great customer service right there. I definitely plan on coming back more to support this business and get more yarn as the options are amazing! read more

This place really has a lot to offer the casual crafter. They have a lot variety in their yarn selection and have plenty of instructional books and classes to help out. The staff is also very knowledgeable about most projects and are more than willing to give advise. The only problem I had was the lack of useful stuff for more advanced projects. There is no substitute for one on one help and instruction. Charlotte Yarn is my FAVORITE yarn shop in Charlotte. Remi and her staff are delightful and always willing to help. Remi carries a great selection of yarn and when she doesn't have something in the store, will order it for me (provided she carries that line, but she carries many lines). This is a great shop if you are looking for the perfect yarn for your next project. They always stock what is trendy (like that weird ribbon yarn) and have a lot of Panther colored yarn (they need some Charlotte Checkers yarn... then I'd be in more often!) There are a lot of yarn shops in Charlotte, but it's not necessarily my favorite. The staff always seems nice, but they definitely cater to their regulars and the "in crowd." I always feel like there is this vibe of the cool customers and if you aren't one of them, you might not have as positive of an experience. All in all, a nice shop. The longer I've been knitting, the more rarely I find myself at yarn shops, because I've gathered too much of my own stock and cravings for the more rare yarns to visit local stores as much as I should. read more

This is one of my favorite yarn shops in Charlotte. It's not the closest, it's not the cheapest... but if I want something interesting & beautiful, I know I can find it here. All of the employees of the shop (there don't appear to be that many) are very helpful and friendly, but the owner is simply amazing. Seriously, I've only been in the shop 6 or 7 times over last few years, but she remembers my name, the yarn I picked up last, the project I was making with it, and even the person I came in with a few times before and what they were making. Because she remembers so many details, she's able to make fantastic suggestions on yarn & notions. I haven't been disappointed yet with any of her suggestions. I'm not sure if she has a database installed directly in her brain or what, but she makes you feel very welcome. I love Charlotte yarn! I first took my knitting classes there about 5 years ago. Even though I got frustrated, they helped me and I stuck with it. They do have an extensive yarn supply, with all of the unique yarns you would be looking for. They will also help you to order anything you may need for all projects you are working on. If you are working on a project and get stuck or need help, every person who works in the store will assist you or find someone who can.
