Wouldn't recommend this Veterinary Hospital due to very poor in-office communication, and how some members of staff seem to be uncomfortable around very sweet and small kittens. See below for details. All records/documents were provided (at the businesses request) in advance of the appointment, the front desk confirmed receipt of the same. We were told that they must review documents before our appointment time, no matter what. At the appointment, tech claimed they didn't receive any documents. I showed proof that this was untrue and had to explain my pets history to the tech. Later, when the veterinarian came into our room, she had not reviewed the history/documents provided nor been updated on anything by the tech. I was then advised to get my kitten a specific treatment and vaccine but I had to remind them she already had it done, which was in the records and history I already gave multiple times by now. If they had treated her without my reminder, my kitten could have become severely sick. Additionally, the staff did not seem concerned with how they physically handled my docile and sweet kitten. At the end of the appointment, there was no advice given for our situation but we were charged $100 to be seen. It was acknowledged that if they had reviewed the documents before the appointment, as they specified they would do, then the appointment was unnecessary. I recognize that there are specific protocols in place to keep staff safe but those protocols were extremely unnecessary in our situation. I wish they were more careful as my kitten was already injured and definitely not a threat in any capacity. Overall, I wish this place had treated us with more empathy and respect. It didn't seem like they cared about my kittens wellbeing and only cared about making some money. read more

Our dog, Sarge, who is in need of a surgical procedure was treated with such compassion. This may be a vet for dogs with no fear of vet visits. However, if you have a dog with anxieties and is fearful of vets, I do not recommend. My dog is very social, sweet but timid, fearful of vets, and (mis)labeled by this practice as aggressive (to which they did not inform me until this visit). However, my dog's prior vet (for his entire life) does not have that label in his record. His trainer, walker, boarder, and daycare all said he is social and would "not hurt a fly". Yes, he has anxieties, frightened by loud city noises, and needs to warm up to strangers. However, he has gone through training to address these fears and develop confidence. We do not intend to return to Charm City Vet, as they do not know how to treat a dog with fears, even though they advertise they have two fear-free-certified techs. A physical exam was not attempted, except a light was shined in his face for 2 seconds. Clearly, their team did not know how to foster a safe rapport as a confident pack leader for a fearful dog. Instead, they behaved with extreme caution and bias, and I felt my dog did not receive fair and proper care. Zero mention of their fear free certified techs and approaches were not shared nor provided. I was only informed of this post visit through their FB ads. The Charm City Vet team received a 0-1 rating from the receptionist, tech, and vet. Poor communication and treatment remained across the team. Although our old vet moved away, we have resumed care with them as their team truly cares about our dog and every animal that enters their practice. read more

We have been bringing our dog to this vet for years. Simply put, they are amazing. Scheduling appointments is easy and convenient. They are very flexible. If you need more than a vet tech appointment and they are booked, they work with you to at least get you in quickly and have the vet Stop by. Obviously there are limits, but it's wonderful to have a group of professionals who clearly are focused on your dogs health and less concerned about a rigid schedule system. Medication refills are easy and fast. We have had great experiences with them for both routine care and actual illness/surgeries. Parking is easy and plentiful. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. I've been to a bunch of vets in both Baltimore and DC and have never been particularly impressed by any of them, but I recently took my cat to Charm City Vet for a check-up about a few things I was worried about, and truly have never had a better experience at any vet before. Dr. Eavers was so thorough, patient, understanding, and really explained everything that she suspected about my cat's health and helped walk me through the treatment decisions, what to expect, when to worry and when not to worry, etc. If my previous vets had been this thorough I would definitely not have had as much cause for concern, but I just didn't understand what they were doing or why. Disclaimer: I haven't had an appointment there. This review is specifically for the receptionist... I, unexpectedly, needed to go out of town and board my dog. Since I have never boarded her before, we are behind on the bordetella vaccine that is required. I called to ask about getting an appointment but was unable to before I leave. I then explained my situation regarding the one vaccine needed. Because we just moved here, I have no idea where I might be able to turn to for some assistance. Instead of being helpful (or just kind!) she was rude and condescending. Look, lady, I don't need your attitude. Upon further research, turns out that I can get the ONE dose that I need from a farm supply shop. After being told that my sweet chihuahua should just be put down at one vet, I took her to another place that made her whole again, only to be severely overcharged for a basic check-up for my other dog. After perusing reviews on Yelp, Nextdoor & local neighborhood groups, I thought I'd give Charm City a try. So many people have great things to say about them & virtually no one has anything negative to say. This place is amazing. All of the doctors, techs & other employees are so friendly, knowledgeable & compassionate. My personal favorite is Sheila, chihuahua lover extraordinaire! I have been a handful of times now & their care has gone above and beyond, their rates are reasonable, and their guidance is sound. Moving to a new town and having a sick pup at the same time is no fun. I went to yelp to see where I should go and found this place which is a mile walking distance (completely reasonable) from my place. Very easy to make an appointment over the phone and I was fit in the next day. The vet tech was great with my anxious dog whose only way to her heart is with food. The vet was quick but informative and didn't express any type of annoyance when I asked questions (I come with lists because I'm that over concerned pet mom) At check out they gave me a folder with resources and went over where the emergency vets are in the area since they knew I was new. (These are on my fridge now because the worst thing other than a pet emergency is trying to google where the emergency vet is during the emergency) I found the cost reasonable for location. read more

I used their website to set up a new patient appointment for my pup. The site, and following email, said I would be contacted "very soon to confirm [my] appointment." I called when 3 days had passed. The woman I spoke with on the phone seemed to be breathless, she sounded so rushed. She had no record of my online request... Anyway, made an appointment for my dog since we are new to the area. When we arrived, the receptionist offered our very food-motivated dog a treat to get on the scale! We were greeted by a tech, whose name I cannot remember, who lavished so much affection on my dog that the pup laid down for a belly rub and licked the tech's face! She also offered treats! Dr. Eavers came in and we all sat on the floor while she did the exam. The pup was so relaxed! It was the best vet experience ever! Our dog has a chronic condition and has to visit regularly so she's had plenty of vet experience but this was #1!!! Very, very happy! My questions were answered thoroughly. This place was warm and comfy - no hard plastic waiting room chairs - with lots of lovely pet art and photos. No poopy smells, too! AND the cost of the exam was very reasonable!!! read more

Bare Minimum Effort, Negative Vibes I've had my dog 9 years and been to several different vets as I've moved around. I moved to Baltimore 1 year ago and took my dog to Charm City when I needed to get an appointment close by and quickly when my dog was suddenly experiencing severe pain. They got me in same day, which was great. Yet, I wasn't overly impressed with my vet, Dr. Karbonik, however, the experience was good enough to stick with them. Fast forward a year and 3 or 4 visits later and I'm finally able to put my finger on what's not working with Charm City and Dr. Karbonik. They do the bare minimum. It's not neglect, but it's not thorough either and I never leave feeling like they really care about my dog. Case in point, I have to specifically ask her to examine my dog's teeth during a check-up, or I have to explicitly dig to find out how much services cost rather than just being told upfront when they are suggested by the clinic. There's a lot of extra work on my part that I've never had to do with the 6 or so other veterinary doctors I've worked with, so if you don't mind that then Charm City is probably fine. I'm looking for a new vet. read more

The only thing the vets in this practice care about is money. The techs are AMAZING, but the vets do not care about your pet, they only care about padding their own pockets. Dr. Eavers prescribed a medicine for my dog that left him deaf and rather than own up to the mistake, she dropped us as a patient and refused to speak with me. Dr. Karbonik then charged us for a re-check of his ears since he still had the ear infection after prematurely stopping treatment. I received no apology and no one took responsibility for this mistake. Since switching to only seeing. Dr. Karbonik, she REFUSES to discuss any problem until I've paid for expensive laboratory tests or imaging. I'm not against testing and imaging, but simple questions, particularly those related to problems that have already been diagnosed (e.g., arthritis), should not require me to repeat testing that has been done at the practice recently. Additionally, at every appointment, they try to sell me a different massively expensive supplement - most of which are significantly up-charged from any other seller of these supplements, if I even believed they work. I leave every appointment not feeling heard and spending 3x the amount of any other practice I've been to. read more

I have to say hands down the best place to go. Each and every person there was absolutely amazing, the Receptionist, Vet Tech and Veterinarian . We received incredible care. We went at a difficult time for an end of life evaluation. They took so much time and care with us and our beloved border collie Spirit. We left in awe of they total care we received. To top it off 3 days after having to say goodbye to our little princess, we received a sympathy card hand written from the staff. We have no idea how they even knew. I decided to switch my dog's care to charm city due to convenience, since it's within walking distance, and I am so happy I did! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Due to covid you are not allowed in the building, but the vet will call you (the actual vet, not her staff!) and spend time talking with you about her observations, recommendations, and address all your concerns. We took in a chihuahua from a family member and soon discovered she was pregnant. She was far along, so we decided to birth the puppies. Dr. Karbonik and her staff were so helpful during this time. Charm City Vet is the absolute best, hands down. The entire staff is awesome, and literally always going out of their way to help! Whether it be needing a last minute appointment, or getting my many questions/worries answered by Dr. Karbonik before coming in--they are just amazing. I had a lot of issues with my new pup's digestive system--so I was a regular in their office for the first few months of having him; I was constantly dropping off samples, bringing him in for check ups, and calling them with questions about how he was doing days later...they were ALWAYS accomodating, friendly, and treated us like we were family. I can honestly say that I feel as though they truly love my dog. All those visits early on in his first few months would add up to some serious bills at any other vet, but not here. Dr. Karbonik is ALL about giving the best care without hitting you with insane charges and expensive unneccessary procedures. She always gives you multiple options about approaches to take and is very open about the cost, what is actually needed, and what can wait until further done the road. I cannot say enough good things about Charm City Vet. The office is beautiful, bright, and clean, and you can always find parking a few blocks down if you don't want to park in the "Pay to Park" spots out front. I thought I liked it here until my dog had to go to the Pet ER and her vet of 7 1/2 years, Charm City Vet, left us in the dark. I had asked them to look over her ER paperwork so that I could understand what had happened. They were too busy to answer the phone, then it was their lunchtime, the text messages bounced back with a form letter text, one of the vets was out for the day and the other one was busy. The emails went through but none of the questions that I asked were ever answered. No one ever contacted me back with any answers to any of my questions, or advice. Not even when I sent a video of my dog having trouble breathing. The only thing they would do was make a future appt for 2 days out and say take her back to the ER if she gets worse before that time. The only other communication from them was a sympathy card after she died a week later. Where were they while she was still alive and I was asking questions? Unacceptable. read more

I just had my first check up for my cat, Maddy. Everyone was friendly, informative & answered any questions I had. The price is reasonable, just as most other vets. This was a basic check up and shots, which cost just under $100. When I got home, they sent over a copy of the invoice, as well as an Exam Summary & a how-to for dealing with some of the behavioral problems Maddy has from anxiety. Overall, I am very pleased by how they handled Maddy as well as how professional and personable everyone is. Definitely staying with CCVH. read more

A brand new vet hospital in Brewers Hills/Canton. Since it is very close to my house, I stopped by this hospital to weigh my new dog without any appointment. The place was very clean and inviting so my dog had no problem going in. The staff was super friendly and assisted me to weight my dog free of charge. She also gave tips on how to manage my dog's weight. I decided to make an official appointment to get a basic check up and ear cleaning with Dr. Karbonik. Unfortunately, she and her staff couldn't get to my dog's ear on our first appointment because my dog was a bit anxious. Dr. Karbonik and her staff ended up making a home visit on the next appointment because my dog was sedated "too much" next time. She examined my dog thoroughly and sent me an exam a note via e-mail so I have record of everything. I highly recommend this practice to any dog owner in the neighborhood. read more

Just moved here from Chicago. My pup needed a couple vaccines and I wanted the doc to check a scab. Turns out the scab was a tick. Yikes. They took care of it and I bought the chewable flea and tick six month treatment. Very friendly staff and amazing vet. Great price. We discussed lots of concerns I had. In the past, i have seen vets who are better with animals than people which is fine since I'm there for my pet but the doc at charm city vet was so down to earth, knowledgable and engaging. The facility is bright clean and charming. Which I can honestly say I've never used charming to describe the vet's office before, or any doctor. Highly recommend. When I told them my Dachshund was having back issues they squeezed me in that day without charging me some sort of emergency fee like my old vet would have. I had a wonderful experience with my first time at Charm City Vet. My cat was very stressed due to a move and urinated outside of her litter box. I was very concerned since she has never done that before. Charm City was able to fit me in within the same day and was very helpful in diagnosing and treating her. Just moved here from Kansas in the last week and my fur baby had some sort of allergic reaction. Bc of his "smoosh face" any type of swelling near the throat can be deadly so I called at 4:30 and they understood the dangers that could occur and got us in at 5:00. The staff was amazing!! They were super informative and took wonderful care of my baby. I was also provided with info on emergency care facilities in case something was to happen during their closed hours and got referrals for boarding/grooming etc. I am thrilled that my fur baby will be able to go here and receive such amazing care! I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Karbonik, Dr. Eavers and the staff at Charm City Vets. Dr. Karbonik is friendly, attentive and extremely thorough. When I brought my puppy Beans in for his appointment she listened to my seemingly endless list of questions and never seemed rushed or annoyed. The facility is spotless and the staff is always extremely welcoming. The level of care and service provided by Dr. Karbonik and her staff is top notch. Finding a vet who takes her time with your pet and truly seems to care has been wonderful. Additionally, she proactively follows up to make sure things are going well post visit. Beans was recently in the ER for a few days and I received this much-appreciated email from Dr. Karbonik: Good afternoon, I received the report from the Pet ER that Beans spent the weekend there. It sounds like he is feeling much better today, which is great! I needed a vet close by for my two kittens and who are now full grown cats. all the vets and staff are very friendly and responsive. the vets followed up each appointment with an email wanting further details of the any issues we had. one of my kitties has asthma and I brought this up and the vet was very understanding. sometimes with seasons changing, we needed fast refills of prednisone and the staff was very accommodating. they are a little pricey but what's expected for the city and great quality care. read more
