Ordered for delivery. The food was warmed up more than once. The appetizer was dried out so bad I didn't know what it was. We alerted delivery as order was over 60. And it really was bad. I called the restaurant they said the food was fresh and did not offer any compensation (we literally threw it out). Were rude actually to me . Be very careful if you order online. They use a "third party company" to handle their website orders. We arrived to learn they did not have any of the whole fish ($26), yet, it was just simply marked off the order strip but not credited from the prepaid bill. The Steamed Dumplings didn't make it into the bag ($8.00). We were taxed and tipped (20%) for the total order. When challenged, the employees offered us a phone number to call. We were told the owners were not available. In the end, the employees took some bills out of their pocket, but we were still out of $$$ and very disappointed to feel cheated by their "third party system". The food: small portions, #3 Spice was VERY SPICY, and just OK flavors. Only the Mango Sticky Rice dessert was deemed excellent. read more

Ordered crab Rangoon, crispy pad Thai, drunken noodles, and B52 roll at $52-expected so much more. Not sure what has changed at the restaurant since the summertime when we last ordered from here but sorely disappointed in every dish we ordered. Crab Rangoon: Noticed my takeout bag said "cheese roll" and when I questioned, I was assured this was in fact crab Rangoon- got home and found5 tiny cigar looking "crab Rangoons". So much of the crunch was lost in this appetizer by changing the shape from the traditional to this odd roll- do not recommend Crispy pad Thai- flavor was good but the dish was so dry and devoid of any of the traditional mixins- felt like we paid $15 for a bowl of deep fried noodles and a tablespoon of sauce. A couple shriveled bean sprouts, barely any chicken (which was so dry it crumbled) and a tiny sprinkling of crushed peanuts. Drunken noodle- good dish and flavors but this time, very small portion. The dish was half the size of the pad Thai. B 52 roll- yikes. My husband spat this one out. Fishy is the word I'd describe this as- and not in a fresh fishy kinda way. Nope. Might add this was the smallest sushi roll I've ever ordered- 5 pieces of sushi, maybe half the length of a typical sushi roll. read more

I still enjoy their food, but I guess since the pandemic they've started to do a lot more to-go orders and that's changed the whole mood of the restaurant. There was a huge line of people waiting for their to-go orders, and it sounded like Grand Central Station in there! Phone ringing off the hook. Alarms beeping and buzzing and blipping nonstop. It's absolutely maddening! Even the staff agree it's terrible, anxiety-provoking, the opposite of what I'm looking for when I want to go out to eat. I feel bad for whoever works there. I have been going here as a staff member at a camp nearby for years, and I celebrated my birthday there this year. Their card machine wasn't working and they first expected me and my boyfriend to go out to a bank (the closest one that was opened was 25 minutes away) to go get money to pay, when THEIR machine wasn't working. In reality, if their machine isn't working (mind you we were the only and last customers of the night), they should just comp the meal. I then left my phone number, name and contact information so that I could drop off money or have someone drop it off the next day. Although I did not feel that this was my responsibility, I sent one of the staff to pay. Since then, I have been back three separate times to eat there and no one has said anything to me nor called me, so I assumed everything was all set. Today, a month after my birthday dinner there, I received a call from them where they proceeded to SCREAM AND YELL at me about the payment. They claimed I didn't pay, yet I had and either way, it's been a month, I have returned three times since, I haven't heard anything via phone, and I have been back three times. The woman who spoke to me yelled over me while I tried to explain myself, was extremely rude, proceeded to curse at me while I tried to share that I had sent someone, and then she hung up the phone on me. I called back to try and follow up and have a nice conversation to clear the air, but she again yelled over me cursed again and hung up again. read more

We had lovely crispy veggie eggrolls, light and delicate. 5 to an order which was more than I expected. Along side we also had a California roll and pan fried dumplings. My Main dish was a rice noodle soup which was exactly what I wanted that evening. Refreshing with bean sprouts & very tasty broth, fried onions and a little cilantro. Food was just okay. Price is outrageous. I tried ordering them on door dash twice and the order was $75+ and they accepted the order at first but they kept cancelling it. Not my first choice for Thai in the Augusta area. They used to be consistently great! But in the last 3 years, it's all dependent on who's cooking. A lot of the time the noodles are over cooked, and minimal sauce left on the food. The sweet, sour, and salty flavor complex can be inconsistent as well. Beautiful sunny day for lunch on the River. Richard is a warm, cordial and well-informed server. He suggested the Eggplant which was delicious. I ordered that w chicken. Tom Yum Soup also yummy. For a place half filled, the service was slow to bring out my very small order: chai iced coffee, 2 pieces of sushi, fried ice cream, and a bubble tea to go. Almost an hour for it all to make it to the table. The view made up for the slowness and allowed me to enjoy the view while I pondered if my food would ever make it to the table. read more

Stoked by for takeout. Fabulous service as always. I had pad Thai that was perfectly spiced and the noodles were soft. The Gyoza was tender with crisp edges and served with soy sauce for dipping. The sweet potato roll was ok. It would better if it was cooked longer. The Brian roll is similar to a red dragon but is topped with fresh tuna. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon was delicious. All the fish was fresh and tender. The taro bubble tea is a sweet concoction that makes me giddy. They have a huge list of flavors. The Thai iced coffee was creamy and sweet. Don't forget to dine in an enjoy a lunch box, a daily special or glass of prosecco. read more

My son and I went to Lucky Garden for Chinese and they had only "to go" so we drove down the street for Thai, so glad we did! We sat outside with a lovely view of the Kennebec River and watched boats meander by. We started with edamame and fresh spring rolls, fresh and crisp and mouth watering. My son and I ordered the same dish, ginger chicken and we both loved it. I added one star of spice to my dish and it had significantly more "zing" than my son's did. Cafe de Bangkok is Hallowell Maine's place to be for great Thai food, romantic views of the Kennebec River, and a wonderful place to spot bald Eagles and to watch the river sturgeon jump! I've been coming to Cafe de Bangkok for about 10 years now and I consider it my 'go-to' restaurant when I'm in the mood for hot sake, delicious sushi, and hot fresh noodle dishes. The wait staff are attentive, knowledgeable about the dishes, and friendly. During the summer their screened in deck is the perfect place for a quick lunch, or a leisurely evening meal. I try to order different things each time I go, however, I tend to default to their miso soup, rainbow roll, and fresh tasty perfectly fried gyoza. I recently tried their chicken lo mein (I asked my server what he would recommend in the "non-spicy" category.) The lo mein arrived quickly, fresh and hot. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned well, the portion was generous so I had plenty of left-overs! If you enjoy spice (like me) they are happy to accommodate your level of spicy. There is a beautiful aquarium in the dining room that my daughter loves to look at. For me Cafe de Bangkok is a place I will keep returning to for authentic Thai, consistently decent meals, and decent prices. read more

For many years, I would come here for a yearly anniversary. We loved their food but always knew we would have to wait, sometime 45 minutes for some sushi. This was even on a Tuesday night when the total amount of guest was equal to staff. Supposedly there is only one sushi chef. My last visit seemed quicker- 15 minutes for some avocado rolls for an appetizer and maybe 15 for our main dishes that were Thai. And on a Thursday night! So maybe things have improved in the speed department. This would be great considering I have loved every meal I have ever had there. read more

I've eaten at Cafe de Bangkok several times since my last review and I've come to enjoy it very much. I now live in Hallowell and they're right down the street from me. I still get their food delivered sometimes and it tastes great with great service. They haven't improved their handicapped accessibility and they're still not quite as good as Thai places I've eaten at in Boston and Portland, but it's definitely very good food. Ehh my food was decent but i would never eat here again. Most of my friends got the Mango Margarita and we all thought the same thing, disgusting. It was frothy like old OJ and tasted as if they stirred supermarket margarita mix in with mango puree and left out the tequila. The food on the other hand was decent and almost great if it came out hot instead of luke warm. The golden triangle was crispy and the flavorful with the sauce. The Pad See Ew was also flavorful. The food being decent was what made me give an extra star. Also, you might not want to eat here if bugs aren't you're thing. We sat on the opposite side of the fish tank (next to the windows) and at the end of our meal we noticed the whole ceiling was covered in various sizes of moving spiders. We couldn't believe there were so many. Not sure if charlottes all over the ceiling is a Maine thing but it was gross to see in a restaurant. This was our second choice option for sushi for my boyfriend. It was just okay. First, we arrived, and the hostess said "let me find you a table!" We turned to look into an empty dining room with many empty tables. Oookay. We were seated (I wasn't a fan of the table, since I had my back to the room, which makes me uncomfortable, but that's a me thing, and not really the restaurant's fault). We order. Our waitress was awkward. That's really the only way I can describe her. She was, however, able to answer some questions we had (except whether it was cilantro in the Tom Yum soup). For an appetizer, we got the steamed shumai, which were easily comparable to the shumai at Sweet Chili Thai. ordered the coconut shrimp, my partner ordered sushi. My food came when his soup came. The shrimp were tasty, but the roasted asparagus that came with it hadn't been trimmed properly, so the bottom was woody and unpleasant. The brown rice (yay for brown!) was tasty. We waited. And waited. And waited for his sushi to come out, getting many iffy answers as to when it would arrive. I was done my entree by the time his sushi came out. I would say it took a good 40 minutes, for SUSHI in a not busy restaurant. Unacceptable. He was satisfied with his sushi, but we found that anything with ANY sort of a heat rating was too spicy. Maybe I'll come back if we don't have any other options, but I prefer other Thai restaurants. read more
