Our latest trip this past weekend featured Stags' Leap (note the position of the apostrophe, I learned something new at the dinner that there are two wineries in Napa with the same name separated only by the apostrophe position and about 2 miles of physical locations they are in the same AVA). Service was great and plenty of glass top offs at this event. Well worth the price of admission. Food was delicious and you get a great view of the sunset on the patio if you arrive early. read more

Came here to celebrate a special occasion and left very disappointed. We ordered the happy hour lettuce wraps, and as soon as they were served, we noticed multiple bugs in the lettuce. (We weren't sitting outside). When we told our waiter, instead of apologizing, he simply said, "It happens." He offered to replace the dish, so we ordered the spinach dip instead because our appetite was ruined. However, we were still charged for the spinach dip replacement. Mistakes happen, but the lack of hospitality and how this was handled made for a very disappointing experience. read more

Came for happy hour before dinner. The bar has beautiful views of the harbor and comfortable seating. Our waitress took our order, part came out, but there was a long delay before we got an additional order. We did enjoy the coconut shrimp and truffle fries. Our water and my ice tea never was refilled. And when we had to move to our table for dinner, our waitress made several errors on our bill. We has a nice table with a view for dinner. My salmon was a bit overdone and dry, but my fiancés prime rib was cooked perfectly and delicious. The key lime pie was perfect for dessert. I would definitely give this place another try. This was a tough one. We dined here for my aunts birthday on a Friday evening at 5 pm. Host and initial seating: 1 star. Not friendly. I understand it was busy but no guidance or direction or estimate or information. Seated late which isn't a big deal. We got a table that didn't have a good view and saw an empty one of the same size 2 tables over. We asked to be seated there and she told us. We would have to wait, that she doesn't know how long, and that everyone is celebrating something. We decided to take the initial seats.we called to ask for special printed menus for the birthday and confirmed. There was no menu and the host again was rude and just said she doesn't know anything about it. No apology, no offer to resolve. There is a tiny bar area you can go to wait. She didn't tell us about it. And there isn't much room (maybe why she didn't say anything ) Server. 5 stars. He was extra accommodating and friendly and I think he felt bad by the hosts dismissive responses. Food. Mix ratings. Big portions. Prime rib: chewy. 3 stars. Would not recommend Blackened salmon. Good. Maybe 3.5 stars. Kind of dry Bronzed salmon. Really good. 4.5 stars.juicy and cooked well. Lobster tail add in was cooked well also but small. Flounder francese 5 stars. Lots of flavor on this one. Perfectly crispy on most of it. But some parts could be a little hard. Would order again. Shrimp cocktail. Delicious. 5 stars. View; 5 stars. Parking. They have valet. What a lovely relaxing afternoon at the chart house. The view alone is worth coming for The food was really good. Copper River salmon and coconut shrimp. We had reservations for dinner on our anniversarybut we were turned away by the valets twice despite telling them we had reservations. Chart House's poor planning on our anniversary diminished what should have been the topping on an otherwise terrific day. When a restaurant leaves a bad taste in your mouth, I look elsewhere. What a lovely time we had at The Chart House! Shandrea was our server and she was just so lovely and accommodating. I took my mom for her birthday and they brought her a yummy piece of cake at the end. Mom ordered the grilled salmon with Israeli Couscous and it was delicious! Salmon cooked perfectly. Besides the views of the ocean and the cool architecture, our server was so friendly and attentive. She just brought a great vibe to the table and was so patient with us. Where to start? This restaurant might be the worst experience we have had and we have seen some questionable restaurants over the past few years. Starting with the entrance, staff directed us to the spiral stair entrance, insisting this was the only entrance, which isn't wide enough for two directional traffic so we were stuck waiting for a few leaving parties to make their way up. Minus one for design and execution of the first impression. Looking back, this was by far the least of our worries. Next, there were drunk patrons who were stumbling around the property and bumping into tables and almost falling on the floor. As nice restaurants go, this is a new one for how small the dining room was and the zero staff assistance or intervention. Now we get to food and service... buckle up. We begin with normal service if a tad slow but as drinks arrive, they set down an alcoholic drink for someone who ordered a non-alcoholic drink and didn't clarify which drink until we asked to confirm. We then are served our meals, well some of our meals. Anyone who ordered a salad had to wait an additional 20 minutes when everyone else was almost done. What were the servers doing? Standing around or nowhere to be seen. We had to ask someone who wasn't our server after our server failed to bring the salad when we mentioned what was missing. The drinks ordered, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were quite plain and frankly bad. As for the steaks, the meat had a "left out too long in a street market" smell, the flavor was consistent with that smell, and one had as much fat as edible meat if not more. For dessert, we had ordered a lava cake when we placed our initial order and made painstakingly clear there was a severe nut allergy and the server made mention they would make sure the health crumble was not on the dish when brought. After the meal experience we had, we hoped there was some redemption with the dessert. Then it came, with the health crumble. Update: one person from our party threw up the steak that night and had a stomach ache the next couple days. Have had safer and much more satisfying meals from cheaper and faster street stands. read more

A solid 3.5 stars I visited on a Wednesday evening and loved the cool, concrete architecture, however the service didn't match the decor. Our server was hard to flag down and brought out half the meals 15 minutes before the rest of the meals were served. So, 1/2 of the table has cold food. The hummus arrived with four cold, hard pieces of premade naan, and I had to wait another 10 minutes for my missing salad dressing before I could even start eating. The Chart House has some of the best views in OC! It sits on the top of the hill overlooking the Dana Point Harbor. I love the ability to sit on the patio and enjoy the gorgeous views. Also, you can enjoy happy hour from 4pm - 6pm and they have some great choices. Today we got a glass of wine, iced tea, artichoke dip, lettuce wraps and fries for all less than $40! I visited Chart House on a Saturday evening with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday. This was our second time visiting for a birthday celebration, & it was just as enjoyable as the first. Our table had a great view of the harbor, which was perfect for watching the sunset. We ordered the coconut crunchy shrimp & whipped ricotta meatballs to share with the table. I had the lobster bisque, my mom tried the spiced ahi, my sister got the caesar salad, & my dad chose the captain's herb-crusted, slow-roasted prime rib. Found this place while on anniversary trip. Happy hour is where it is at! We spent like $48 on 4 delicious apps and 2 drinks. And the view is priceless. It was a bit of a luck of the draw on getting a table... but we got one by the window and it was legit. Eden was really sweet and welcoming. Ok the lettuce wraps are a. MUST! The peanut sauce should be bottled. The sliders and fries were good and the coconut shrimp were a bit of a miss. But again, for the price it was amazing! They were "fancy" but there were a few missing technicalities... the bussers were a little less professional and the heaters were disheveled and blocking the views. those are both just observations that didn't impact my want to go back. We saw the chart house in a different light... First off, we really were into the March madness playoff So we snuggled in at the bar front and center .. Marcos, our" super waiter" took care of us for the next 2 1/2 hours... what a great experience. It was a perfect evening we started with fresh oysters on the half shell from Washington followed by the seared Aji tuna so delicious. Had a little cocktail then we had some of their meatballs with ricotta cheese ... we brought our own wine and it was only a $25 corkage fee which we thought was, we finished our evening off with the perfectly prepared Chilean Seabass with fresh garlic, mashed potatoes, and root vegetables. Came here with my girlfriend for our six month anniversary. I made dinner reservations on their website for 5:30 on a Saturday. Valet Parking is $9 and convenient. The spiral staircase down from the lot to the restaurant is iconic. While I was hoping for a window booth, all were filled and we were seated at a slightly elevated rear booth. There was a little confusion with who would be serving us. Our initial server was wonderful, but shortly advised that she would be handing us off to another. The second server came across as new or less capable. To our original server's credit, she checked on us regularly and advised if we needed anything to flag her down. She gratefully took pictures of us and made sure our special evening was truly memorable. The food was excellent. Crab cake for appetizer, black cod for my girlfriend, filet mignon for me and a nice ice cream dessert to celebrate our anniversary. The sweet brown bread is always great and we both complimented our meal with a glass of wine. While not entirely a smooth night, it was still special for us. I arrived here with my family for dinner. My Mom had made a reservation in advanced. She was actually very surprised she was able to get one. Once she saw there was a table open she booked it. Parking here is valet only and the valet was super nice and friendly. The atmosphere here really is stunning, as you walk in from the parking lot you can see the beautiful view of Dana Point Harbor. It was sunset when we arrived which made it even more stunning. As you walk into the doors you go down a flight of spiral stairs and are greeted promptly by the hosts. We were shown to our table quickly. We were seated at a booth with the lovely view I mentioned before. Our server was Tony, who was super sweet, conversational and accommodating. Service was great throughout our dinner. I started with my drink the Faux-jito which was super refreshing and had just the right amount of sweetness. For our appetizer we shared the Kimchi Calamari. The batter was very tempura like and it also came with julienned zucchini, red pepper and sweet potato. There was no actual kimchi though so it kinda felt a bit misleading. For my meal I ordered from the "Chart Your Choice" menu. I started with the Lobster Bisque followed with the Savory Shrimp Pasta and finally the Mini Lava cake for dessert. My Lobster Bisque was creamy and had a very generous amount of tender lobster. My shrimp pasta, however was just alright. I was a bit disappointed as it was not very flavorful and my pappardelle pasta fell apart very easily. I also tried my Mom's filet mignon with chimichurri butter and that was tender and flavorful. My dessert was amazing. The lava cake was warm and rich with a generous amount of ice cream. I also loved the toffee pieces and chocolate sauce on top. Tony was nice enough to get a picture of my family and I outside at the end of the dinner with the sparkling boy lights in the background. Okay, the good and the bad of our evening at the Chart House. It was my birthday dinner, because that's usually when you splurge on an expensive steak dinner. We were seated in a hole of a table with no view in a hallway in between the main dining room and the kitchen. It was basically the wait staff highway. Not great but I didn't speak up for a better table because I didn't want to be cold outside on rickety folding chairs, so fine. The really not good part was one of our party ordered roasted chicken. It arrived cold. Not that it sat a bit, but solid cold, right out of the walk-in refrigerator, cold. I have never seen this happen at any restaurant ever. I get that it's a seafood and steak restaurant and there's one chicken dish for that one picky patron but wow! $35 for nuked chicken they forgot to nuke. So, we sent it back and the waiter was appropriately mortified but then it took another 45 mins to grill a NY strip for my guest. We ate, then he ate. The whole time sitting at a table where we could smell all the kitchen smells and now I was really taking heat from my son for not speaking up for a better table. So, all-in-all the worst birthday in recent history. On the plus side, my prime rib was spot-on perfect. And I wish I could come back because it was so good and I love prime rib. But, that whole evening isn't going to fade anytime soon. read more

I believe they have happy hour in their bar and patio, but it was freezing outside. We were lucky to snag bar seats as the restaurant was packed during happy hour. The happy hour menu has great drink specials. The food specials look great, until you get the food. The spinach artichoke dip was just spinach and cheese and not tasty at all. The truffle fries were fine. The firecracker shrimp had no flavor and were tiny shrimps. The coconut shrimp was the best dish. The prime rib sliders were OK. We ordered lettuce wraps, but they never came. 30 minutes later than we were told that they ran out. I wouldn't come back for happy hour, but would consider going back for regular dinner to try it out because the restaurant was packed. read more

I've been here twice. The first time we went was a decent experience. This last time we went was horrible. It took almost an hour for us to be served once we sat down at the table and only half (or less) of the seats in our dining room were full. I let the manager know how disappointed we were about the service that night because it took us about 3 to 3 1/2 hours to finish our dinner. He was pretty dismissive. If the family brings this place up as a place to go for our next big occasion, I'm definitely going to remind them about this visit. Hopefully, we'll never go there again. read more

We usually enjoy coming to the Chart House especially because we were married here 11 years ago so we have wonderful memories here. Unfortunately during this visit we were very disappointed in our meals. I ordered the Seabass and lobster risotto and my husband ordered the filet mignon and garlic mash potatoes. When my Seabass arrived at the table I immediately smelled a fishy odor which meant the fish was not fresh. It tasted just as it smelled and after the first bite I just couldn't eat it. I also love risotto but the risotto tonight was not tender to the bite and needed to be cooked a little bit longer. The server apologetically replaced my meal with the swordfish which was okay but again not as flaky as the last time I had it as it was overcooked and dry but at least it didn't smell fishy. My husband's filet was ordered at a "medium" temperature but was cooked more medium well to well done and was very dry. He did not want to say anything since he was not willing to wait any longer for them to recook a new filet. At this point we were ready to end our meal. First time we were totally unhappy with our meal quality and we left feeling very disappointed and unsatisfied with our dining experience (sad face). If it weren't for the beautiful views and the good service this restaurant has to offer it is questionable whether we would return just for the food, but because we do have good memories here we will probably give it another try given some time. read more
