Fancy spring water!

OMG!!! Chart House owes us nothing!!! Our servers Jenny was a rockstar! She was personable, offered us suggestions and made our experience even better! Now, about the food! We both ordered salmon. I ordered mine grilled with olive oil and the hubby ordred the chart your course which included a salad (he got the salad bar) and dessert!!! Both were absolutely delicious! Hands down the best salmon we've ever eaten!!! It was moist and melted in our mouths like butter. The restaurant was super-duper busy so I'm glad we made a reservation ahead of time! It seemed like every table was occupied. The views were also amazing! Westwood whales, sea gulls, and sea lions!!! If you are in Cannery Row, go check this place out and...thank me later!!!

This is a famous seafood and steak house in Monterey . It is always fully booked . If you don't have a reservation, chances are that you have to go eat somewhere else . They have happy house Monday to Friday from 4-6 pm . The prime rid sliders is a hit ! We came here on dinner and the earliest reservation we could get was 7:45 pm on a Saturday! We ordered some cocktails and the 10 ounces prime rib cut ! Originally we were going to order some seafood and the prime ribs. However, we got prime ribs only because we love their prime rib so much and would rather stick to the steaks . The prime ribs were medium rare and I asked for more on the rare side . It was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. We had ordered different cocktails and they were great . Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and check on us often . Parking is hard in this area . We parked in the paid parking lot near by . There were only a few spots available even it was $15 paid parking. The restaurant has a club membership so that you can get priority access to reservations. This time we forget to bring the membership card so we got a 7:45 pm reservation. The restaurant was packed even this late . It has tables next to the pretty ocean and a nice menu for cocktails and wine . It was fun and nice dinning experience.

We are never let down at any of the Chart House locations but this was a great visit. The food was all spot on and the service was excellent! We had reservations and were seated promptly - it was on the busy side but the manager (Kerry I think) was super and made sure all of the guests were well taken care of. Our server Zane was great with helping us decide on a couple things.

We've been here a few times now for special occasions and you really can't beat the view at sunset. Service is usually pretty good, the warm bread is always yummy. My go to is coconut shrimp! Or any of their steaks. If you tell them you are celebrating something ahead of time they specialize the menu which is cute.

We've been coming to Chart house for years. I've been hesitant write a review because I don't want the secret out but Zane is amazing, food is top notch, view is sublime. If you want mediocre food, horrible service and less than pleasant views, do not go here. If you want to have the best meal in Monterey, drop all plans and go visit Chart House!

I went for my birthday on a Monday. Was greeted by a friendly hostess. She sat us at a beautiful window seat. Server was super friendly and wished me a happy birthday. Clam chowder was the best I've had. They brought me a nice birthday surprise so I recommend coming for a special occasion if you have any :-)

This place is a throw back and nostalgic. If you want new hot and popping this ain't it. If you like dive OG seafood and steak restaurant bars with an 80s vibe this is it. You'll probably run into my grandparents or yours as well but I do love old people!! We keep coming back for good reason. Oh the views are spectacular as well!! Great staff too.

Had a great experience during happy hour. For happy hour, you sit at the bar or in the designated area of the restaurant. My family enjoyed their happy hour drinks. Delicious food, great views of the water. Their lot was full so we parked on the street, no issues. My favorites were the tacos, calamari, and tuna over rice.

Beautiful Views, But a Major Miss on the Food I've been to a number of Chart House locations over the years and have generally had great experiences, so I was excited to visit the Monterey spot. The location and views are, as expected, stunning. However, the experience with the food was unfortunately a real letdown, starting with the fresh raw oysters. While the oysters themselves seemed to be of fine quality, the shucking was honestly terrible. Several of them had fragments of shell and even some mud left on the edges. The adductor muscle wasn't released on the bottom of any of them, so I found myself having to awkwardly cut each one loose and flip it over myself before I could eat it. The most glaring issue was one oyster that had a hole completely smashed through the bottom of the shell, and it was full of shell fragments. It was completely inedible. I pointed this out to our server, and to their credit, they were very professional about it. They promptly brought out a single replacement oyster, and this one was perfect--beautifully shucked, muscle released, and properly turned. It showed me what should have been served in the first place. Moving on from the appetizers, the rest of the meal was also hit-or-miss. The salad bar was nice and had a good selection. Unfortunately, our main entrees didn't fare as well. My halibut was dry, and my boyfriend's prime rib was surprisingly tasteless. Ultimately, the best part of our dinner was the nice view. While the service recovery on the oyster was appreciated, it's disappointing to have such fundamental errors in preparation and execution from a restaurant like Chart House, from the appetizers through the main courses. This experience definitely fell short of the standards I've come to expect from the brand.

Back after 9 years another Birthday celebration Service: 4/-5 Food selection: filet mignon and shrimp scampi 3 half /5 salmon with rice, 4/5 Caesar salad 4/5 Cream spinach 2/5 The steak had a decent flavor, but I didn't like the cut too or texture It was kinda weird chewy ; the salmon and rice dish had a good flavor and the Caesar salad was good Nice presentation; the calamari was really good and I usually don't it calamari but this sweet and spicy sauce they put on it with all the add-ons was so good. I've have creamed spinach multiple places and this one just didn't do it for me. It was clumpy. It didn't have flavor. It just didn't give the cream spinach taste that Im used to. I wouldn't order this again. I also enjoyed a good lemon drop. Service: 4/5 service was good very attentive patient and professional Ambience; 10/10 I love the ambience. The chart House has one of the best views & ambience inside and out! If you're lucky to get a window seat, the decor is very nice and all of the staff seem to be very nice and attentive. Conclusion: when I am in the area, I will definitely stop by again. I love this place. The food is pretty good for the price point but the steaks definitely could use some work. They definitely need to choose a little better cut of meat but overall everything else was pretty good. I enjoyed my birthday dinner and also my cute little birthday dessert thank you chart House. See you again.

We decided to come here for a date night. We were seated by the water which was pretty and nice! The customer service was amazing and the explanation of the dishes was good. Our server/bartender and host was really attentive and cool. Unfortunately, the food was alright. It wasnt something to write back home about. I really liked the restaurant as a whole, but I wish the food was a little bit better. Especially for the price. I don't want to take away from the people who work there, I just wish the food was a little better.

As many times as my husband and I have visited Monterey, this was the first time trying Chart House. It was my birthday so I really wanted something special. We showed up at our reserved time and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating for our meal requests. The place was pretty busy, but service was great. The decor is absolutely beautiful, filled with rich woods that gave it a very romantic cozy feel. Since I had already had seafood for lunch, I decided to try the prime rib and OMG, it was amazing. It was cooked at the perfect medium, and was so tender and flavorful. I added a loaded baked potato, which topped it all off. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were top notch and both delicious. They also provided a lovely birthday candle on my dessert! Did I mention my dessert was a lava cake? It was to die for and I ate it all even though I was so stuffed before it even came. I will definitely return and I highly recommend!

We came back because we had come once prior years ago and remembered the food being good.. this time I would say it has changed. Can't say we'll re-visit, restaurant is pretty, great ocean views and staff was kind and friendly but food was ehh for the price Oysters 3/10 *we sent them back because they weren't clean well at all- lots of shells Halibut 8/10 *pretty good but nothing I'd go back for. Fish was cooked well though Filet Mignon 7/10 *lacked flavor Kids Salmon 3/10 *undercooked, no seasoning/flavor Kids Burger 7/10 *very small, very dry

After walking on the pier we were kinda worried about finding a decent spot to eat. So glad we gave it a try. Walking in there were like 3 other parties walking in so that was encouraging. It gave off Hawaiian/tiki vibes and was inviting. They have a 3 course special 4-5 pm for like $30. My husband and I picked that, I had the teriyaki chicken bowl and he had bbq ribs. The salad had a delicious dressing and had to eat every morsel. Both the main courses were really good. My grandson ordered the steak and ate every bite of the whole meal. Kai (the waiter) was very nice and gave us some advice on what to see along the route. I got an amazing picture that I blew up to hang in our room. Totally recommend giving this place a try!

The highlight of the night was when Paula surprised our daughter with a shaved ice dessert and dry ice presentation. It was her last day of 2nd grade, and we were celebrating the start of summer before she heads into 3rd grade. The smile on her face was priceless. Earlier in the day we experienced some poor customer service elsewhere, so this was a great reminder of what true hospitality looks like. Great food, great drinks, and even better service. Thank you, Paula, for helping make a special family memory. We'll definitely be back.

Street parking available nearby or valet parking right next to the restaurant entrance…read more We had a great waiter who was patient with us trying to select a cocktail and explained the different cuts of meats well with a sample display. Meats are from Snake River Farms which is good to know. The fresh Pacific oysters from Fanny Bay, Canada were outstanding. So fresh and not fishy at all and plus the jalapeño onion mignonette was sweet and so good that I saved it for my steak lol I loved the cap of my prime rib but the middle was a bit chewy like it is with most prime rib. i was really glad that the steak dinners come with the mashed potatoes and stir fry spinach (also glad it wasn't creamed spinach for a change). He enjoyed his ribeye as well. The salts are really interesting and we were told to use it sparingly since the steaks were already seasoned intentionally. He ordered a glass of Emblem and I had Bee's Knees which was pretty syrupy sweet in the way that honey is with a hint of bitterness. We shared a mini key lime pie which was pretty good and exactly what you would expect. The free birthday cannoli is so fun and was presented with a sparkler but unfortunately my least favorite because of the odd tasting candied fruits in the cream. We had an amazing time here and really enjoyed our dining here.

We didn't have to wait for anything that we may want or had ordered. The food however... I am genuinely confused about the reviews I have read because none of them are close to our experience, quite the opposite. Incredible service and terrible food. When you charge astronomical prices you need to actually deliver on that cost and just having good service doesn't cut it. I ordered the Carpaccio for an appetizer and it was just ok, I've had it many times throughout my life because it's one of my favorites so I was disappointed that it wasn't as good as I would have thought. Then about 50 minutes later our entree came. I got the Abalone, which I was over the moon excited about because it is such a rare delicacy and you don't see it served often. I have only ever gotten to try it once and so when I tried the first bite of my meal, disappointed is an understatement. It was overcooked and tough for abalone, and the batter was horrible. It was thick and salty, the kind of batter you would expect at a low end chain diner. The mashed potatoes were obviously an "instant" cook and ready type as though they came from a flake powder in a box or bag. The spinach was decent but also an obvious instant cook out of a bag variety. My guess is that they outsource through a third party that provides a shipping service of certain levels of food items to different restaurants and they use that. It's definitely not made from the source in the kitchen. My husband's dish was not any better. He ordered the steak of which I had a bite, thinking it may be better and my food was just a one off. He was not happy with it being he is a steak aficionado. I found it pretty mid level, not bad, but not better than a mid level restaurant would have, at least it was cooked at the correct temperature. The pricing is the real problem here. The food is not what it should be for the price point. That saying came to mind, "If you have to salt it up, you don't know how to cook". Maybe a new chef is in order, as someone who can cook a delicious meal with very little to no salt, I know it can be done and it's not that hard. We will never be going back based on the horrible food/cooking quality, outsourcing of food products, and the price gouging is just the cherry on top of the insult to the culinary world and those who respect good food and quality dining. Kudos to the excellent service, though it is not enough to attribute for the price of a $200 dinner of instant sides and over salted meat.

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They're seared with duck fat which gives it a great buttery taste, allowing you to taste the fatty flavor on cuts of meat that aren't the most fatty. The fries that go with each steak dish are also really good and go with the steaks. We had the cowgirl ribeye and spinellis steak. They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.

We ordered a bottle of a red wine local to the area. Our server was named Christian, he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and lots of great recommendations! We both ordered a cup of soup, one cup of clam chowder and one cup of abalone bisque (one of the best soups I've ever had). As well as the oysters which were great. For our entrees, my husband ordered the chilean sea bass. Which he loved! I ordered the NY steak, cooked medium rare. Absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious. We received a slice of carrot cake for my husband's birthday, timed perfectly at the end of our dinner with a candle in it for us to celebrate and quietly sing together. Just the two of us. This was, without a doubt, one of the best dinners we've ever enjoyed together. From the attentive service and inviting ambiance to the exceptional food, every aspect of the evening was flawless. We will 100% be back again. Thank you for this memory.

Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for an upscale, seafood dinner with…read moreunique offerings that's going to leave a dent in your wallet. The food is delicious but the price is a bit steep for the experience we had. My husband and I made reservations for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night at The Sardine Factory when we were on a recent trip in early June to Monterey and the surrounding area. We were looking forward to it for several weeks and had seen videos online of the beautiful restaurant interior, so we made sure to dress for the occasion. Upon arriving we were somewhat disappointed to be seated right near the host stand and next to the front door, practically in the bar area. We had hoped to sit in a more quiet area or in the atrium (especially considering we arrived several minutes before our reservation time and were not a walk-in couple), but we were still happy to enjoy the night. Being near the bar we were in immediate earshot of the piano player, who was singing soft and mellow songs that added to the ambiance when we first arrived. It was a nice start to accompany our drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately that didn't last long as the music swiftly became louder, karaoke-style songs that the bar patrons were happy to (loudly) sing along to. The noise became so overwhelming and didn't let up for the rest of the night. We couldn't hear each other speak or even hear our server. That type of setting is not at all what we envisioned for this caliber of a restaurant, or we would have booked our anniversary dinner elsewhere. Needless to say we wrapped up our meal more quickly than we would have liked and did not want to stay and enjoy dessert as we had planned. It took quite a while to receive our entrees and even longer for the check to finally arrive, but we were quick to leave and don't plan a return trip in the future. We were quite disappointed as we had such high hopes for a nice evening out.
