Came for the AT&T Pro-Am weekend...the hostess was fantastic, took all of our requests into consideration and sat us in a beautiful waterfront table! Christine, our waitress, gave awesome recommendations and we had the lobster with scampi on the side, and filet mignon. Both dishes were fantastic! Manager came by twice to check up on us, and it was a five star experience from start to finish. Friend and I went to the Chart House for Happy Hour; we found that the bar menu didn't have gluten-free selections. The Chef came out to chat with us (really nice guy from Arizon). I made a reservation for my parents 58th wedding anniversary. I was asked when I made the reservation if it was a special occasion. I told the person (very nice, didn't get a name) who took the reservation that yes, indeed it was and that I would like put a few balloons on their table. Not only did the staff make my parents feel very special, they created a menu for them with their names and congratulations on their anniversary. My parents were very surprised by the menus and truly appreciated the excellent service they received from their server Sydney (sp). They also mentioned how the manager (Peter or Pete?) stopped by and made sure they were enjoying their meal. They had a lovely evening out and I want to thank the staff of Chart House for taking such good care of my sweet parents. 5 stars and then some! read more

I've been going to Chart House in Monterey, Maui and Oahu for years. The one in Monterey became a 7 year tradition for my birthday because I knew it would always be good. The last time we went however it was the worst meal ever. The filet was tough and when I asked for Bernaise (I've been getting it since 1980), they said they did not have the ingredients to make it. They brought me two very bad sauces instead.The baked potato was hard as a rock, the bread stale and the salad was very bad too. Because the waitress and manager on duty were so nice, I did not send it back but should have. I later found out there had been a change in hands which is probably the problem. read more

We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed it. However, last nights dinner was terrible. The couple in the booth next to us wanted to ask a dozen questions about every course from appetizer to dessert and our server apparently did not want to offend them and left her other tables unattended. She spent so much time at that table I got up an went to the restroom. When I got back, she was still answering questions at the other table. Meanwhile, we were left with dirty soup bowls and salad plates on our table. After a long wait, we finally got our entrees while our "server" did everything but give the couple at the next table a massage. CHECK PLEASE!!!! I wouldn't have left a tip but my wife left a small tip anyway. Worst service I have had in 40 years of eating in Monterey area restaurants. read more

We know not every establishment can be spot on, but an individual stood out above the rest. There is a positive and a negative person involved. You decide. My wife and I use this Chart House for special occasions. This was her birthday, she's a Fourth of July baby. We were early for our reservations and were told our table would be ready around our reservation time. We had a 20 minute wait, so we headed to the bar. It was full since it was Friday and Fourth of July. I asked a server if we can order drinks. She said a cocktail waitress would be happy to take our order. She must have observed my failed attempt to get the bartender/ cocktail waitress' attention. She found us in the waiting area and asked to take our drink orders and suggested appetizers. She mentioned the happy hour prices were about to end in 5 minutes. The drinks and appetizers arrived within reasonable time. This was the highlight of our evening. Our table was now ready. I looked for the nice server who went out of her way to assist us along with her regular table customers. I tipped and thanked her for her excellent service. Our server was named Joseph. He had one gear, slow. He did everything correct except for his speed. He took our drink order and told us our bread was being baked and would be right out. My wife and I joked about him kneading the bread and waiting for the second rise because, yup he took so long to bring it. Our drinks arrived with the bread finally. We ordered our entrees along with the Lava cake dessert that requires early ordering because of the bake time. Our dinners finally arrived, yup late too. Joseph may have been new. He was always standing by the computer screen. It was easy to find him because the monitor screen lit up his face in the dark restaurant. After finally clearing our plates he asked about dessert. It seems he forgot to place our Lava cake order. He tried to play it off like he remembered. He looked at his watch and said it needed two more minutes. My wife and I chuckled after he left and wagered how long will this take? Yup, it never came because after a 10 not 2 minute wait, I walked up to Joseph at the computer screen and asked him to bring us the bill. He explained the Lave cake is ready, so he will pack it to go. So we waited 10 more minutes for the bill when Joseph finally delivered it, yup no Lava cake. I asked him to remove the Lava cake from our bill because we wanted to eat the cake now and not later. He said it would require a manager to adjust it and would be a few minutes. Nope, it only took him one minute to adjust the bill. Apparently he knows how to subtract orders, but not place them. I did the same with his tip. Wife had the stuffed shrimp and I had the macadamia crusted mahi, we loved it. read more

We ate early, with no wait to be seated. The server was very nice, but a large party was later seated at one of her tables and they monopolized her time. Took a very long time for her to show up so we could order dessert, and an equally long time to actually get the dessert. The manager paced back and forth all evening but we never once saw him speak to any patrons to see how things were going, nor did he seem to do anything about the fact that we were obviously waiting a very long time to be tended to as our meal winded down. The food was delicious, the views are beautiful, and the personalized menus for special occasions is a nice touch. If we didn't feel like we were left hanging, it would have been perfect. read more

Hello. I wanted to try this route before leaving a review on Yelp or another social media outlet. My wife and I are life long, born and raised residents of the Monterey Peninsula. I was forwarded an email from a co-worker that he received from the Chart House regarding national prime-rib day for yesterday only. The special was $19.61 for prime rib. We haven't been to the Chart House in a very long time, but always here good things about it. Your email also said while supplies last. My wife called at 7:35pm to inquire about the availability of prime rib. The lady who answered said it was plenty left. She never mentioned anything about a reservation or waiting time. We got there at 8:10pm and was told the wait was 30 mins. Honestly, had we known that, we may have chosen another location, as we were starved and it was getting late. We were already there and I wanted prime-rib, so we waited it out. It took about 10 minutes before a server arrived to our table. Server was friendly, just not very talkative. He didn't sell your restaurant or menu very well. As a matter of fact, he didn't even mentioned the nightly specials. I'm assuming that your restaurant had some. Our server basically just asked if we wanted to order any drinks or appetizers. Straight to the point. No suggestive selling or recommendations. We placed our drink and appetizer order. A few minutes after, I changed my mind from the spring rolls to the crunchy coconut shrimp. I was able to change my order after our server came back to our table 10 mins later. We placed our dinner order which was the prime rib for me and lobster bisque and beef steak tomato salad for my wife. As I said before, the food was delicious. Our server arrived with our order about 20 mins after we ordered. As another server was leaving, my wife mentioned that she was missing the lobster bisque. It arrived a few minutes later with another server. She also asked me if I thought they would ever bring out the bread that we requested? We finally received our bread as we were finishing our dinner. At no time did the server come back to ask if everything was okay with our meal. Took him 20 mins for him to collect our bill. On top of that, there was an item that was on my bill that we didn't order. Took 20 minutes for the server to take my credit card. Won't be back unless it's with a gift card. Too bad, the food was very good, but ruined by one employee. read more

The wife and I dined here for our second wedding anniversary. The Staff made sure we had an amazing view of Monterey Bay at sunset. During dinner we could see several otters and a pod of dolphins swam by as well! Jordan our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. My wife and I had a delicious meal with an excellent bottle of old vine zin. If u like wine the Chart House has an great selection to choose from! I highly recommend this restaurant! It was Labor Day and they were out of five of the six fresh fish that they serve! I know you get a run on a holiday, but they have been in business long enough to know better. The once stellar salad bar was just ok with fewer selections than several years ago and some old lettuce that should not have been served. They serve the shrimp cocktail in a bowl contraption with dry ice steaming from below. This melts the cocktail sauce into a soup and warms it and the prawns. You want both of those to be very cold. This is a beautiful restaurant with a great view, but we come for the food. Our waitress way very nice and only charged us half price because of the lack of fish. We were dropping our son off at college and had our good -bye meal here with him. We were not disappointed. Everything was excellent. We were seated at about 6:15, so we enjoyed a lovely view of the ocean during most of our dinner. We had a very nice, helpful server who provided us with good recommendations. Our son had the Filet Mignon, my husband had the Prime Rib, and I had the Spiced Yellowfin Ahi. We all enjoyed every bite of our selections. To start, our son had the Caesar Salad. My husband and I shared the Shrimp, Brie and Artichoke Melt, which was tasty, but I would try something else next time. We ordered the Hot Chocolate Lava Cake and also the Raspberry Sorbetini for dessert, and enjoyed both. This is a very nice old school with a bit of modern restaurant. First of all, I rarely write a review of a place other than when it's truly great or truly poor. Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about the service or the food at Chart House following my Easter Meal tonight. Firstly, we were sat 15 minutes after our 7:15pm reservation (with tables visible after arriving at 7pm). Then, our appetizer came 40 minutes after our order (to which they did apologize, but not offer, any sort of free dessert or something). My tuna came fatty to the point where I choked on it. Then, when we got our bill, we were charged for a soup and salad after were were offered it as if it were a part of the meal. Sorry to say, but Chart House failed on many levels and we will never go there again. read more

It is almost Mothers Day and you she surprised me her son. At the Monterey Bay Canneries this restraint has the Monterey bay Dolphins jump'n around. I enjoy the half shelled oysters and he fullness of the salad bar shelf. The place is always fast to cater or order and all you can eat special. We received the coupon Prime Rib with a all you can eat salad bar. I enjoy decorating the dessert section with fluff cream and fruit. She loves the delicate entrees of steak and the Spanish fish fillets. The last time I was there was my 38th birthday, getting a mudslide cream pie. How awesome of Mom to invite me? read more

So we sit down at our table by the window and look at the top of the menu and it says "Happy 19th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. (your name here!)" Way Cool considering I just gave them that bit on info 15 mins earlier. Great Experience in every way great service etc. But it's ALL About The FOOD is it not ? I literally Grew up in working in Restaurant Kitchens and at the age of 20 years old I was cooking 50 to 100 steaks a night and Every plate that went out of the kitchen had to go past me. 300 to 400 Dinners on our craziest nights! The Food At The Chart House reminds me of how the Food used to taste and should taste. Everything was Cooked Perfect and Tasted Excellent! The Clam Chowder was perfect (as a prep cook I prepared 10 gals. of chowder every Friday for years) I know of which I speak. My Wife ordered the Scallops and I had the Ahi Tuna with an Oscar topping the bernaise was .......Perfect ! And Do I really need to talk about the Chocolate Lava Cake ? I'm not really trying to Toot My own Horn Here I Just Have To Say That This Was The Best Dinning Experience We've Had In Years One We Will Not Soon Forget !!!! I had dinner here by myself after a day of spectacular whale watching in Monterey Bay. I sat at the bar. I really enjoyed passing the evening by myself here. I had a couple of drinks and dinner consisting of caesar salad and prime rib. It was all terrific. I wasn't rushed, the courses were spaced right, the food delicious. The bartender was social but not overly so and we shared some funny stories. I have dined at other Charthouses in the past and have never had a bad experience. The first Time I went to the Chart House in Monterey a year a go I would have given it a 4 start review, but instead I am reviewing it the 2nd time I went and it gets 1 star because my dining experience was terrible. The second my wife and I sat down our server asked "Can I explain a couple appetizers to you" when she was done explaining 2 of them she asked if the chef could start making preparing one. Mind you that we haven't even opened the menu to read about the 8 or so others. We said no and she was back no more than 2 minutes later asking the same question, it was very annoying. We ordered the appetizer which was fine the the waitress returned before we had finished it and started asking about our main course selection so we again had to shoo her away so we could try and enjoy ourselves. When we did order our main the waitress piped up again trying to get us to order desert before we had seen a desert menu or even taken 1 bite of our main course, it was all quite annoying. The food came out and it was OK. My prime rib was fine but my wife had the chop salad which was uninspired and pretty pathetic. We did not order desert and got out of the restaurant in 45 minutes unsatisfied and feeling ripped off. I have been to a few of the Chart House's around the country and have many good memories of going to the one on Maui, but I must say the Chart House in Monterey felt more like an assembly line than a restaurant and we will not be returning. I don't know if it is new ownership / management but the way we were treated and the manner in which h the server seemingly pushed us out the door was unlike and dinning experience I have ever had. A few complaints...it was a quiet night with plenty of available seating and they placed us where a lot of people walk by and so it became very noisy and even distracting to our waitress. I think they should be more strategic on where they place a couple who were trying to have a romantic night. Don't place them next to a few families and right next to a high traffic area. Second I had the salad and the prime rib. Everything was fine until I got really ill. It happened later that night and I knew it wasn't anything else I had ate. I was sick the day after as well. Ruined our weekend trip to Monterey. I called to let the restaurant know that the salad bar made me really sick and they rudely questioned what I had previously ate. Not believing me, they said sorry but it wasn't their food that made me sick. I'm pretty sure I can tell what makes me sick...not coming back to this place again.... read more

To tell you the truth, when I walked inside the Chart House, I didn't want to eat because I wasn't hungry at all. I My parents wanted to pretty badly because about 20 something years ago, they had their wedding reception at the Chart House in Half Moon Bay (which has now closed down) and wanted me to try it. When we were being escorted to our table, the waitress informed us that she saw a whale about 5 minutes ago. With high hopes, we stared out those huge glass windows and sure enough, we saw the hige tail in the distance. It was a breathtaking view! Now onto the food. I ordered something called the blue nosed fish encrusted with some type of nut over a bed of angel hair pasta with light tomato sauce. My mother got the seafood sampler and my dad the steak. We also got a side of sizzling mushrooms and salad buffet. After ordering I went up to the salad buffet. It was so good! Fresh caesar salad tossed every ten minutes and served to you! With as many anchovies and all the yummy fruits and vegetables you want. They even had artichoke hearts. Then out entrees and sizzling mushrooms came. Remember what I was saying about not being hungry? All of that went out the window when I tried my fish. It was damn good. It was paired perfectly with the pasta that was so light it complimented it very well. It was probably the best fish I have ever had and trust me, I have had a LOT! (I'm a vegetarian) The sizzling mushrooms were so good and i tried a crab cake and you can taste the freshness of real crab. It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back! I live in San Francisco so it's going to be a while 'til then but it's well worth the wait! After a long drive to Monterey, we were craving steaks so we decided to go to Chart House. We didn't have time to make a reservation so we were hoping to get squeezed in. The hostess told us we wouldn't get a table until 930 (we arrived at 845). She gave us the option of sitting at 1 of the 3 tables in the bar area. We were tired and hungry so we took the offer, it was ridiculously dark so we had to use the flash lights on our phones. The ENTIRE time we were dining in the bar there were 5 empty tables in the dining area across from us. We sat for 10 minutes until someone approached us wth menus and drinks. About 12 different employees walked past us, including the manager, and didn't say a word. I began getting frustrated when I couldn't read the menu so I asked the bartender ( Jacob) for a candle. He ran to get one for us but then he gladly just moved us to a table with lighting ( still in the bar). It took 20 minutes for someone to take our order, I ordered the crab cake (appetizer size for $15.50) while my mother and sister ordered the New York steaks. The food came out pretty fast and was very delicious. We were "helped" by a total of 5 different employees and the only kind one was Jacob. This young man deserved his $20 tip. This place was very pricey, $120 for 3 people. As we were leaving there was a woman vomiting from the front deck of the restaurant. The employees were all young and just stood around and talked instead of helping us. From this experience I can say I'm not going back. read more

We got lucky and were able to get a parking space across the street in their restaurant free parking and enjoyed ahi tuna and drinks at the bar before our reservation. Come here even for drinks and happy hour if you don't want to spend a lot! The host was able to accommodate our ocean view request! So far things are great! Salad bar was available to go to right away with a great selection of toppings, lobster bisque and clam chowder came next. In my opinion Fish Hopper's clam chowder is way better! The reason it took over an hour for a steak medium rare is beyond my comprehension, and why the server didn't seem to acknowledge the wait time was so long for just 1 entree for the table.......... We were never asked or received refills on our waters and when our server did come by she wanted to take our plates or soup bowls still unfinished. Pretty disappointed in the service and food. Venture to a local spot for 1/2 the price and better food! read more

I did not want to go because of past (many years ago) experiences. We ran into a Couple that raved about it and the reviews were pretty good so we decided to go. We had a reservation but forgot to ask for a window seat so I asked when we got there. Not a problem! We had told them I have food allergies to bell peppers when we made the reservation and were told it was not a problem. To my surprise the general manager (Travis) came over and spent time with us to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. That is great customer service in my book. The food was beyond our expectations, so much so we went back the following night for wine and appetizers at the bar. Ahi tuna dinner was perfectly cooked just as I had ordered. Sauce was so good the husband got a side to dip the bread in. Lobster bisque and mussels in wine sauce were fabulous. I order mussels a lot and these were by far some of the best I have had and the portion is huge. read more

My girlfriend, her family and I all attended hoping for a nice meal where conversation would naturally occur based off of the environment but little did I know what would be coming our way. When we first arrived the first thing I noticed was the musty, sticky and dank main dining room. It smelt like moldy food and a dive bar. When we were seated it took about 15 minutes for the waiters to take our beverage. I ordered a Chardonnay for myself and my fellow wine connoisseurs attending with me. The wine obviously was not what the menu added it up to be and I was presented with a cheap wine most likely purchased at a gas station. When we finally got our food my girlfriends pasta was undercooked and very greasy. The amount of issues with our meal made it almost inedible and I was very disappointed with our meal and overall our experience. Each flaw we found seemed only to be a tranche as they just kept coming no matter the scenario. I wish I could give negative stars. read more
